The wife of an Anglican bishop could expect a life of peace and comfort. But Benjamin Kwashi is the bishop of Jos in Nigeria, a place that is torn by Muslim-Christian violence. Gloria Kwashi has had her home burnt down and has endured rape and beatings. One of the beatings left her blinded, until surgery was able to restore her sight. Despite this, she continues to reach out to widows and orphans and supports her husband in his remarkable ministry in Northern Nigeria. This book is a record of love and endurance that should stimulate us to examine our own lives and how we respond to adversity.

A coffee enthusiast, she can often be found pontificating on the merits of a Sidamo over a Malabar on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/abidemitv
An amazing story of an amazing woman--and her equally amazing family. I knew a little something about Archbishop Kwasi and his wife, but I was moved by their story of love, faith, and compassion. My husband and I found it challenging to adopt one older child with all the comforts and conveniences we enjoy in the US. The Kwasis have taken in more than 300 children from the worst conditions imaginable! We complain because some people don't want the name of God mentioned in the public square. The Kwasis have had their home burned down and were viciously attacked twice in the conflict between Christians and Muslims going on in Nigeria. Through it all, they maintain a strong faith and witness, a shining example of how we should live as Christ-followers.
I read this book without putting it down! Such is the sheer force of the book! The book tells the story of God’s grace and faithfulness.
I was a student at the Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria when the Bishop’s house was burnt down there (as was the Christian Chapel on campus)! I have sat under the Bishop’s sermons. I worked with an organisation that funded the Diocesan development arm of the Jos Diocese. I heard the stories of the attacks on the Bishop’s home. But reading this book has given me such a deep, intimate insight into the life of the wife of the Bishop. As an indigene of Adamawa State myself, I could wholly relate with the stories of her growing up.
The book is so tenderly written as to touch hearts with the grace of God. It is a very candid and honest account that draws the reader into the lives of Gloria and her family. The sense of humour in the book shows how compassionate God is and how we can still laugh in our challenging circumstances. I cried in some places and laughed hard in other places.
It is a story of God at work in the lives of His daughter and her family. You will cry and laugh with Gloria as she grows up, goes to theological college, gets married, survives attacks based on her faith and looks after over 300 orphans and vulnerable children! Written in simple prose, supported by perspectives from her family, the book is a wide open door into the lives, warts and all, of a family that is committed to serving God! Only God’s touch can give a woman such grace to share her life in this way!
This book has challenged my faith and stand in God and has inspired me to serve God even more! I would recommend the book to every Christian who needs a revival in faith and service.
