I’m running. Running for my freedom. Running for my life. I’m running because everything hurts. And all I want to do is breathe.
The old me was bold and wild and reckless and privileged. The new me is timid and freak-stricken and weak and broken. All I want is freedom. All I want to do is breathe.
A complicated relationship? That’s the last thing I’m about right now. Something casual and easy? I’m down for that.
But he is not.
He wants to own me. He wants me to own him. He wants to save me. I’m too terrified to give in.
All. I. Want. To. Do. Is. Breathe. But it turns out, Noah is the air that I need to do that… Breathe.
In One word it is - Compelling! In Two words it is - Utterly Fascinating! In Three words it is - Just! So! Good!
I was totally hooked by page 5 of the prologue! Never, have I ever, read a book with this type of storyline. In fact, the storyline is so unique, I would be giving away spoilers just telling you about it!
Let me at least give you a few adjectives/nouns to peek your interest: Desire! Fear! Bravery! Lust! Sexy! Brooding! Feisty! Funny! Billionaire!
Here is the premise ...... two 'very different individuals', who are barely acquaintances, Nate Van Der Wells and Charlotte Cooley, strike up an unlikely conversation which leads them to spending time together and actually enjoy each other's company. When BAM, out of the blue, Charlotte disappears, leaving Nate desperately hoping he runs into her again! He gets his wish three years later, except now these two 'very different individuals' are 'completely different'. Confused yet? I am hoping you are and equally intrigued, because it is pure reading enjoyment to find out what the heck I am rambling on about!
..... "I used to be so blind in love with that woman. So, I went back, soaked it all up. All of which I'd beg for as her husband and she'd refuse, now she's giving those things willingly. I made her fall in love with me. Because, my whole life, it was all I'd ever wanted from her. Her love. ....... And when she finally did, finally gave me all of her, I hated her. I hate her with such passion that I've pulled her closer instead of kicking her out of my life. You might think that doesn't make any sense, but it does to me."
Gosh, this book!!!
And yes, for whatever reason there are some typos, but I was able to read right through them in absolute anticipation of what was going to happen next!
Both Nate/Noah are refreshing heroes for the genre!
“Now, I know what you’re thinking right now: ‘Uh, this is not what I signed up for. I like my billionaires ripped, with tattooed brawns and an infamous, well- experienced dick; reticent, but bossy. My lady boner just shriveled up and retreated.’”
Lotty is spunky, sometimes grating, but always loveable!
“He wants more than full-want. He wants serious-want. Like the future-wife want. Risk-of-heartbreak want. And I’m scared shitless because I don’t want that kind of want. I want a temporary-want. Something to tide me over until it’s time to leave. But he’s saying I’m not leaving. And he’s saying I’m his. And he’s missing me. And he’s kissing me. And oh my bloody Jesus on a cross I think I’m falling for his missing me and his kissing me and it’s weakening me.” I finish with deep gulp of air, catching my breath, counting to ten.
She’s true to herself, sometimes to a fault. She has a tendency to get in her own way, but for good reason. She’s been programmed to be the way she is and it’s going to take one hell of a guy to change that.
One day Lotty has it all. The next day, she doesn’t. Falling as fast and as hard as she does, her focus becomes about survival. And simply surviving can be dangerous. Her time is running out, she knows it, and there’s only one person who can save her—even if she refuses to admit it. Lotty is strong, determined, and she can take care of herself…or so she thinks. She’ll never accept a handout, or even help for that matter. Until it comes wrapped in a pretty package disguised as a job from the man who will save her.
He laughs at himself. “I looked at you and thought to myself, ‘There she is, the best thing I’m ever going to have to work for in life.’ For two weeks straight, I went across the bridge, running in that park, every street, searching for you. Until finally, finally, I found you.”
This is what is so impressive about this book. The subject matter is serious. Cole does an amazing job of never letting you forget that, while at the same time keeping it light, inserting humor where you’d least expect it. You know what Lotty is going through. You feel her pain, her fear, and in the midst of all of that, you find yourself laughing. Because she is.
“Please. I don’t wanna die at nineteen. This was a stupid, stupid idea. Dear Father, if you let me live, I promise to stop downloading illegal movie and music torrents. I promise to stop watching gay porn and to stop masturbating to fantasies of virgin teenage boys seduced by hot soccer moms. Just please let me live and I swear I’ll be good.” Andrew abruptly releases my throat and grabs my jaw instead— “wow, Our Father works fast!”
As far as the secondary characters go, Q takes the cake. Ms. Cole, I’m speaking directly to you. If he doesn’t get his own book, I will haunt you in your dreams. Okay, now that I have that off my chest… Coming in second are both Reckless Lotty and Rational Lotty who bicker within the real Lotty’s brain. Sound a little like somebody’s Inner Goddess? That’s what I thought too, at first. But the truth is Anastasia Steele is not the only woman with a little Ana talking in her head. We all have that…don’t we? Good vs. evil? Angel on one shoulder, Devil on the other? Reckless and Rational blow Inner Goddess away. With everything real Lotty is dealing with, it’s no wonder she shuts down and lets these two take over. They argue nonstop, but when they agree? Real Lotty better hold on tight!
“‘Oh, sweet mozzarella,’ Reckless Lotty moans. ‘Okay, even I have to admit,’ Rational Lotty begrudgingly mutters, ‘that man is scrumptious to the Nth degree.’”
From the prologue I was hooked. I loved it. Childhood friends wealthy parents thrown together to get married but he always had a crush on Sienna Sullivan. Nate Van Der Wells catches her having affairs. He is a billionaire with no ripped muscle just fat flabby jerky fat. He has a heart attack and as soon as he gets out of hospital he filed for a divorce. Sienna the gold digger.
Charlotte Cooley sixteen and Nate meet in the park and start jogging together after he got out of hospital. She is left with nothing when her father is convicted of fraud and embezzlement.
Three years later.
Charlotte is with Andrew who beats her and plays around. He is a taxi driver. Charlotte drives his cab one day and picks up a fare she named him Abercrombie the perfect male model who turns up in front of her cab on the street running from another womans husband throwing knifes at him just in the tight white boxers.
So the story unfolds and too much to say without giving everything away.
Some great lol moments I loved Lotty she was sassy, funny, confident and flirty. Lots of other great characters too Muscles, Gloriel, Kiki, Sienna and Quesie. Please don't stop writing Ann Cole you have too much talent to give up.
Oh, my god! I wasn't expecting this but I really loved this book! I really don't wanna give anything away because pretty much half the awesomeness is in the uniqueness of this book. All I can say is, I don't think I've ever read anything like it. Also, Q totally needs a book of his own. I won't have it any other way, I just couldn't get enough of him. I get this absolute joy and hearts in my eyes whenever he was there, to be honest.
This was an awesome amazing read that I enjoyed very very much! Do you know that happy feeling not only in your stomach like butterflies, but real happiness just while reading a great book? This one made me feel that happy and butterfly feeling!!
This isn't a typical billionaire story it's much more than that. It begins with Noah's pov from the past and then in Lotty's pov. There is a lot more to it but I don't want to ruin it so I'm not going to give much. I have a soft spot for the name Noah, maybe that's because Michelle Hodkin made a swoony Noah. So now I just swoon for the name alone, is that weird or normal? Let's keep it on normal. Noah had a best friend Q I can't remember the whole name because it was to hard to pronounce for me so it was Q for me. He is a brit (yeey and so damn funny! Lotty has a best friend Kiera who is a fashion girl with a horny side.
This are a few quotes that made me feel extra happy:
"So, what are you going to do? Bully me into a relationship with you?" The bastard grins. " Nope."
This was so damn funny until Lotty had a different problem.
"Now", he begins, tone challenging, "I dare you to lust after Briggs while this"-his hips thrust forward to indicate his hard-on "is right here."
And this is why I like Lotty. She has no filter. "Open your mouth. I want to smell it." His eyebrows kiss the sky. "You want to smell my mouth?" "Yes."
"Lotty...babe, if we do this, if we have sex, I own you. I want you to think about that before we go any further.
This made me feel swoony and giggly :p From Noah to Lotty
I want you to enjoy being owned by me. I want you to brag about me like I would about you I want you to take pleasure in being just mine, and be secure in knowing I'm just yours. I want you to be happy.
I absolutely loved this story - every character, every push/pull, every misunderstanding. It was an engrossing read. Mr. Van Der Wells...hot hot hot. He has sooooo amazing. He's not your typical dark, brooding, alpha bazillionaire asshole. He could definitely be alpha and an asshole, but really not so much. He has a tender, caring side which he really wasn't afraid to show and communicate. And our heroine was plucky, unabashedly comfortable in her sexuality, and has quite a mouth on her! This was just enjoyable all around. All that being said, for those of you who have a problem with grammar and missing words, this definitely has that!!
***ARC received in exchange of an honest review***
2.5 stars.
This book was all over the place for me, it went in a lot of directions, most of them I actually enjoyed, but the fact it was so hot and cold for me settled my rating. Plus the fact the heroine was brazilian and spoke Spanish. As a Brazilian myself it's hard to see this. Brazilians speak Portuguese not Spanish, so I didn't get why the heeoine said stuff in Spanish (and her estranged aunt said stuff in Portuguese).
Even if it wasn't an accident (I assume a simple google search would have confirmed, we speak PORTUGUESE), I didnmt see th connection to why she would speak Epanish randomly.
Also, the heroine and her best friend were kinda crude. And I didn't like all her inner dialogue, all the time (I didn't like the "inner goddess" and I didn't like Lotty's angel x demon thing). Way too crude and not in a cool way. I liked the hero, although I don't buy hia confident act.
Some parts (a lot of them) were quite good, but it's hard to read a book that is good and then goes flat, and then picks up all the time and rate it higher, at least for me.
I read this book in two days, I called into work just so I could finish it. Call it irresponsible, but I really couldn't care. The love I have for this book goes beyond anything. Its a pretty deep read and I often found myself immersed in the thick of things. I found myself constantly questioning choices I would make had I been in Lottie's situation. I couldn't really find myself choosing anything different. I lalalalaloved Lottie; she was flawed, she was reckless... But I loved her. I loved Nate even more, idk if I'm biased bc I love S Ann so much and I love everything she puts out... (Except for maybe Krissi, partly my fault bc I read Jahleel before anything else and I absolutely despised her so much I couldn't bring myself to like her in her book.)
From the moment I read the prologue I knew I was hooked. I just loved Nate so so so so much. I loved that he anchored Lottie. Loved that he had a single purpose and loved that he was such a strong character. I love love LOVE Jahleel, but Nate is right up there. I can't say enough about him. We always hear stories about heroines being ugly ducklings and their transformation into a beautiful swan, but rarely have I seen one where the hero is the one to transform. And I loved him for it, I loved who he was as a character and a man. I loved that Lottie wanted him before he became the megahottie. I loved that she was essentially the thing the catapulted him into action, the catalyst of some sort.
The writing is fantastic, I'm pretty sure if you are a stickler for proper grammar this probably wouldn't be the right book for you. But I found myself grinning at a the references some people probably wouldn't understand... But hey, I think that she found her niche and I think her loyal fan base will love this book. I feel like its a deeper, darker one... It's not as dark as Chad's Chase but I think that S Ann does a wonderful job executing the book. Creating a conflict that was always there in the back of your mind as much as Lottie's. At least for me, it was the silent character that choose the perfect moment to pop up and remind you that's its still there laying dormant. It kept me wondering how it would be resolved, bc it had to be... I won't put too much into it, but I will say this; I loved Lottie and I adored Nate. I loved everything about this book and its characters. I will read the next book and so forth.
I'm not even sure where to begin with this one... I've struggled with writing the review because I want to tell you how awesome this book is without giving anything away.
I'll try to keep this as spoiler free as possible, but I make no promises. If you're feeling adventurous, I'd recommend skipping the review and jumping in feet first. I flew blind and am so glad that I did!
The author has gifted us with a story about a billionaire and a young lady that comes in, out, and into his life again. This may sound like a familiar story line that you've heard before, but, think again. This one starts with a new twist and makes you wanna tilt your head in confusion. Indeed, its perfect in its originality. And I loved it. I loved Noah for his internal strength and his insecurities. I loved Lotty and her beautiful, almost broken spirit, and her willingness to work through all that life throws at her. There are times she acted her age and I wanted to throttle her, but others where her maturity truly shined through. I loved the push and pull between characters. I loved the emotions evoked, and as per usual with an S. Ann Cole book, I wanted to throw my e-reader no less than 3 times. I love the build up that held me captive and wouldn't let me sleep or put the pages down. I read it from cover to cover and took breaks for work and napping. The story was beautiful, the characters well developed, and the was pacing perfection.
I didn't think I would love another of her books more than I loved Ice Steam, but this one did it.
5 Stars. BRAVO, S. Ann Cole!! Adding this one to my reread list.
Noah Van Der Wells, our incredible hero, How's your back holding up after carrying this hefty book? And how's your mind coping with the challenge of dealing with a brat for a heroine?
This story had the potential to be a solid 5 stars, but unfortunately, Miss Charlotte held it back. At first, I didn’t mind her, but as the story progressed, her behavior became a bit too much for me. Her immaturity started to wear on me, and it detracted from the overall experience.
However, Noah was a dream. He’s exactly the kind of hero you hope for in a romance, and I’m sure I’ll be dreaming of him!
3ish Stars... Its one of those books where I say "I like it but I'm not inlove with it.." lol!
Writing is pretty good and the hero that used to be fat was refreshing to read. The heroine was okay but there were some issues here that didn't quite add up to me. So the heroine is/was abused by her so called boyfriend but throughout the story she has a very strong personality. I mean really, this woman is sassy! So when I think about it- her staying for so long to this bf despite him hitting her emotionally and physically.. it just didn't make any sense! There were also some wtf scenarios that made me roll my eyes more than a couple of times. Scenes that was so cheesy and far fetched it annoyed the shit out of me. So unbelievably stupid that at one point I had to put it down and read something else.
But anyways, I finished it. I like it. Just didn't love everything.
Recommend for people who loves a strong heroine. 2-3ish stars for me.
Where to begin without giving it away? Well, Nate is so sweet and sad. Charlotte is so brash and sassy and so full of herself, that I love her. Noah is sure of himself, knows what he wants and how to get it. Charlotte needs help and Noah is the only one to give it to her. Kiki is so funny with Charlotte, Muscle is hot and Q is just do die for. You don't know what is going to come out of Charlotte's mouth next, and when she doesn't say a word, "lorttt" it is a whopper. I loved it. I can't wait to see what S. Ann Cole has for us in the next book. I love her books so much.
This book was so frefreshing. I enjoyed the humor as well as the characters. Q had me in stitches all the time. This is one of those stories that you can't get enough of. I loved it and wanted more. It was around a great love story.
I can say I liked 'Yes, Mr Van Der Wells', except few things about Charlotte: her choices and actions in some situations. About the characters in the book: 1) Lotty \A.k.a Charlotte\ - I liked her in the beginning of the book, but that kinda changed after few more chapters. The way she acted, constant flirting with every male she sees, wanting to have her way with them, half of it in front of Noah, just not cool... And not at all like a person, who was abused for years by another man. At least I don't imagine it like that! And most of the time she doesn't know what to do, that constant battle between her two 'inner selfs' drove me crazy. 2) Noah \A.k.a Nate\ - Not a bad character at all, very likeable at times. You can really see that he loves Charlotte, like she's the ONLY one that doesn't realise that for a long time. 3) Muscles - The other 'love' interest, or should I say lust? I didn't like the fact that she was ready to jump his bones few times in the book, no, just no! 4) Other character were totally fine by me, except Andrew, ofc, but after all he's the bad guy in the book...
And now few excerpts from the book, so you can see more clearly the situation:
Soo, if you overlook the things I stated about Lotty, 'Yes, Mr Van Der Wells' is a book with very enjoyable story. I hope there will be also books about the other characters from this one, would definitely check them out.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
This story is absolutely amazing. When it says it's 'not just another billionaire romance', it fucking delivers. That is what I love. Stays true to it's word. No false advertising. Zero. Zilch. Nada.
The characters are intricately woven, complex and amazingly written. And not just the main characters. All of them. Each and every character has a back story and a complex range of emotions that they feel at any given point of time which has been brought out so beautifully by the author. It's truly amazing to read.
The setting of the story, the flow of the plot and the dialogue are all brilliantly presented in this. I love absolutely everything about this story. Really. Everything.
The main lead, Noah, is absolutely brilliant. He's smart, he's sexy and he's seriously sinful. Plus, he loves Suits. So, yeah, brownie points for that. (Go Harvey! :D) He's determined and knows what he wants. He doesn't stop at anything to go after it. That I adore. I mean, would you be able to resist if an Abercrombie (Lotty's words, not mine) gives it his all so that you're his forever and ever? I think not. He's been burned in the past which makes him a little wary and there's a lot of skeletons in his closet, but in the end, he fights everything to be with Lotty. So, I love him. I can't not love him, you know.
And then, there's Lotty. She's a child born in privilege and then, everything is snatched from her in the blink of an eye. Still, she makes the best of situations presented to her and fights everything. An abusive boyfriend, a mother who doesn't care about her, a dead father and friends who turn her back on her the instant it gets tough. She's been through it all. Yet, she smiles and laughs and lives. I admire her. I respect her. I wish had even an ounce of strength she possesses. Seriously. She's absolutely amazing.
So, yeah, this is an amazing book and I'd recommend it to anybody who'll listen. Go, read this. Right now!
Rating - 5/5
"I don't just want to live the rest of my life with you, I want to live the rest of my life for you, because of you. So, take me real serious when I tell you that if you die tomorrow, I'll die along with you." - Noah Van Der Wells.
ARC for an honest review. But first and foremost, let's applaud Ms Cole for an outstanding book and writing style. You make the Jamaican in me comes out and be like "bap bap!!! *beats pot cover*" LOL!!
These few words best describe this book here: S. Ann snatch my soul with this book right here!!! The introduction alone had me hook.
This book is not your typical billionaire romance. It has depth. I swear to read this book at some part you will hear Destiny Child #Emotion play, "just emotions taking me over, caught up in sorrow..." cause trust and believed, you will get caught. While other parts will take you to Jamaica, where you'll "bruk out" (get crazy) cause yuh ukubit ...loooooooool. I love how in every book S.Ann writes she showcase her Jamaican Roots.
This book is about a SURVIVOR!!! It's about when life dealt you a shitty hand, the means you use to survive, even when you don't want to because the other outcome is 10x's worst. This book is about FREEDOM and SEXUALITY! But not just any type of sexuality, owning who you are, and showing a middle finger to anyone who think of you otherwise. This book is about FAMILY!! Like the saying states "blood don't make you family". And lastly, this book is about REAL LOVE!! That type of love you want to drown in without no sight of oxygen.
The characters are so well developed and funny as hell, and so loyal, underestimated and nosey! lol but you can't help but love. This is by far one of the best billionaire books I've read in a long time that truly focus on real issues and realize that money can't solve everything, or can it?
I won't really get into full synopsis because to read it is to LOVE IT!! and I want you guys to form your own ideas of what a great book this is..because it is!!! Like DUH!!! lol. So get cozy and get ready to feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeel and fall in love, and learn how to fight back!.
I'm gonna keep this review short and sweet. This books was pure perfection, I now have a new favorite author. All the characters in this book were unique and diverse. I loved the MC Lotty she was feisty and funny, pretty much unlike any other heroine I've ever read about. Ohhh and Nate/Noah he's a super alpha and oh so sexy. The prologue to this book was so unique that I knew I just had to keep reading. However I need there to be a sequel to this book, and can it please focus on Kiera and Muscles, and I also need a super HEA for Noah and Lotty. Everyone will love reading this book you will laugh out loud, you will feel anxiety for all the characters and this book will have you on the edge of your seat. Please go read ASAP and fall in love like I did
Since I read her first book I became a FAN of her work. So I can say I'm going to buy her books no matter what. But with this book I Was HOOKED!! Just so out of the ordinary, like her books. I Had to go to work, that's the only time I stopped!!! But got me thinking all day until I could read again!! Such a great job, once again you did not disappoint.
I'm not really sure how I feel about this book. I liked it and stuck through it and read it all but I feel like it was missing something (not sure what) that would have given it that wow factor for me.
The characters and their friends where interesting and I like them. When Lotty was sixteen she was rich and crushing on a much older wealthy Nate Van Der Wells. Her family fell from money and she's ended up in a abusive a relationship. Nate has become a fit sexy guy. Three years after they have seen each other their paths cross again. There is a lot of back and forth and hot and cold between Lotty and Nate. Lotty was pretty funny and I kept wanting to read to see what see would say next. Both have exes that are not ready to give them up. Lotty's ex is a little crazy and he definitely does some crazy things.
This is better than "Fifty Shades of Grey." This book got heart and soul. I love the plot and the interplay between characters. The portrayal of the heroine and hero were realistic, believable, and chemistry was scintillating and intense. The sex scenes were haut, haut, haut! It didn't leave me cold like it did with "FSOG."
This book addressed domestic abuse and I'm not one who likes to read such books. Despite the heavy subject, the author did a superb job addressing it. Her ability to tell this gripping story of hurt, betrayal, abuse, love, forgiveness, and redemption all in one book attest to the author's immense skill in her craft of writing.
If you haven't picked it up yet, do! Now. Make sure to report your orgasmic experience here.
I super enjoyed this book and how both Nate and Charlotte have dealt with their own personal heartbreaks and bad situations. Their personal relationship is so full of sass and both unsure of where it is headed and what the other wants.
I loved both of Charlotte's "sides" talking - Rational and Reckless! They were so much fun to read and I loved her talks with herself. She is so lucky to have Kiera and I really hope she gets a book next!
I had a feeling on who was involved with Andrew but all the connections surprised me!
This was the first time I have read this author and it certainly will not be my last!
I read this book and imagine Chris Pratt transformation body for Guardian of The Galaxy as Nate/Noah Van Der Wells <3 Love this book, but really..Lotty is a little brat, a bit annoying, a pain in the *ss, it's good that Nate could always be her rock.
Wasn't sure what I was expecting with this book but it was awesome!!! Loved Lotty and Noah and the build up to their relationship!!! Funny, sad, steamy this book had it all for me!
I have not yet read a more sexed up book. I mean every few sentences there is a sexual innuendo or an out right statement of sex. Boom.baby...it was so much fun. It was a really great book. And honest to God just as I was thinking the books dragging with the hot and cold behaviour of the protagonists Kiki..my girl...laid it all ouy on the table..yup we were all getting whiplash. It was a great fun read... with alot of the issues facing the world wrapped up un its pages. Love lust abandonment abuse assumptions ego trust trust trust safety body shaming, infidelity affairs lpsychological effects from all such things. People in every day life have faces such issues but what happens when these issues starts affecting the people around them.but mostly its a lesson that every action has a consequence...no one is prepared for those consequences and that's where every thing goes to hell. People need to open and their eyes ...and try try and then try some more because there little acts of rebellion or love or lust creates so many ripples in life for others. Be aware and be conscious of everything and everyone.
Another great great story ...... sooo many twists and turns ...... I absolutely loveeee Nate and Lottie, and love thier struggles even more, what a wonderful way S Ann handles the silent elephant in the story, the abuse of women, love how she handles the end game and how Lottie gets her soul searching freedom !!! and her happy ever after with Nate .... not too happy they don't even actually get married in the end, or have a set promise of marriage ..... kinda feels like we were left hanging ..... but it's all good ...... loved every single page and nuance of this story .... Miss Cole never lets down, love love her style of story telling.. She is absolutely in a class by herself !! This is a standalone so guess that's it for Noah and Lottie's story .... Loved the setting in the Big Apple ..the Great NY !!!
