Ridgeville #9

Big Furry Deal

Rate this book
Panther shifter Millie Walker is finally free, finally knows her real name, and finally… has a mate? Well, crap.

For Millie, having a mate is a horrible, no good, he’ll end up very dead, bad idea. She’s got what some refer to as a “control problem.” In other she has no control and that’s her problem. So, she stays away from others, keeps to herself, and generally tries not to kill people. Except the pride Prima—Maya—has this “awesomesauce” idea and suddenly Millie’s at a pride picnic surrounded by people… and then she meets her mate. Her tall, delicious, please-may-I-lick-you-from-head-to-toe mate. Now she prays her powers don’t suddenly decide Wyatt is better off six feet under.

Lion shifter Wyatt Dane knows he’s not the kind of man who takes a mate. His own mother proved he wasn’t worth loving. But then he meets Millie. Millie with her fiery hair, generous curves, and dangerous powers. He tries to resist her, forces himself to reject her, but then she returns and he realizes he can’t let her go. Her powers will just have to figure out how to deal with his presence. He’s keeping her. Period.

But someone from her past didn’t get the “she’s mated” memo and he’s determined to have her, no matter the cost.

Big Furry Deal contains kick ass violence, some potentially trigger content (what do we expect from the bad guy), and copious hilarity. Be prepared for laughing, crying, and cringing. As always, curvy women rock, boys drool-girls rule, and your mileage may vary.

This is my favorite book in this series. Millie has been through a lot she was taken by the ex-leader of the freedom movement when she was two years old. Millie is a powerful sensitive who lacks control over her abilities due to years of abuse at the hands of the ex-leader and his friend Frank the snake shifter which I found to be rather gross. This book had a lot of emotions as well as action. Millie has been in Ridgeville for a few months she every since Harding moved Tess his mate along with a few other women out of the compound to Ridgeville Millie is living in Gina's house and she doesn't go around the pride because of her lack of control. Maya invites Millie to a party she knows that Millie the were panther has control issues, but as long as she is with the twins her power will not lash out and try to hurt well men she was fine. With one smell Wyatt knows he has found his mate which he thinks he is not good enough for he is damaged as well by his mother who left him when she found out he is a shifter. This book had me laughing and crying. I love reading this series if you like hot shifters with hot sex scenes and it is funny then I recommend that you read this series.

I have really loved this series as a whole so far, which makes me sad to say I found this read to be pretty "blah". It didn’t pack the same emotional intensity as other books in the series. It was ok, but I never fell in love with the characters and I found the storyline to be overly predictable and bland. Also, this book was $4.99. That’s quite a bit for a book that was only 216 pages and nothing overly memorable. I will still check out more in this series, but this one didn’t impress me.

I loved this book!!! Celia Kyle is an AMAZING author! She pulls you right in and makes you feel what the characters do. Bethy was so sad and scared, but Wyatt loved her no matter what. Even with his own insecurities he still put them aside to help her find peace with herself. He didn't try to do things for her, he gave her the tools to help herself. I liked that a lot! Such an amazing book and series.
I can't wait for Honor and Grayson's book. I feel so bad for Gray trying to wait for Honor.

I'd recommend this series to anyone. Any of Celia's books are worth reading!

Another great Ridgeville story.

Millie/Bethie is a Sensitive Panther that has been abused for 30yrs though she doesn't remember a lot of the details.

Wyatt, a lion, also had a lousy childhood with his human mother rejecting him when he was 5, when he first shifted.

Together they deal with their terrible pasts.

Oh, and there was humour and ice cream.

Another heartbreaking story full of pain and emotions, ones that are so hard to control for Millie, she's suffered years and years of abuse both mental and physical. It has left her fractured three ways, her human side, animal and her power, all are independent of each other with no control. As a result she is either threatening or being threatened until finally her mate finds her. I ached for this character, her fear and pain shone through the words, his life hadn't been easy either but together they gave each other the strength and support needed. Sometimes him having to force submission was hard but knowing he did it for her own good made it easier to read, I hasten to add this is more a mind thing for her out of control power, not in any way sexual. There is plenty of action and some violence with a threat from her past as well as the power, but I found this to be gripping and moving. Wyatt is gentle and loving as he can be, even when having to subdue Millie he does his best not to hurt. He just wants her safe even if they have to leave the Pride. I'm so glad Maya is strong and stands tall when it comes to the women in their pack, she is definitely kick..s when needs be. Read 11/12/21

Great story

Wyatt and Millie (Bethy to him) are both adrift in the world, tossed / torn from their families when younger. They heal their emotional scars with their love but an enemy lurks in the shadows ready to inflict physical harm. There will be blood. I really liked this one. Their back stories are heartbreaking but so well-written.

Crazy times in this book with Millie's out of control power but her mate, Wyatt, is just the lion to teach her control and they both learn about love and acceptance in this heartwarming story.

Again I love that a curvaceous women is the ideal in this series. These books were fairly short but even so, there's very little real/deep emotion between MC's. The darker issues of an abuse, rape, violence etc are only lightly explored & are (unrealistically) easily overshadowed by a mystery & a conundrum (ie how to keep everyone safe including the female MC). Unfortunately the more you read of the series the more you realise that the characters are interchangeable along gender lines. But overall the series stories are fairly witty & sexy with light erotica & a touch of shape-shifter paranormal romance & should be enjoyed as such.
Enough with all the Maya-isms!

In this return to Ridgeville, a Prima with no filter wants to make a feline with no control her new bestie, and the combination may literally have heads exploding in the town!

A seriously out-of-control Sensitive rescued after years of abuse in captivity, Millie's inherent ability to soothe the emotions of others is upside down. To protect herself, her mind lashes out at males with lethal efficiency. If not distracted, her attacks on their minds' pain centers leave them unconscious if not dead. This combined with huge memory gaps and feeling like her human, panther, and 'power' are split personalities cause more misery and despair within her.

Maya, the irreverent and outspoken Pride Prima, thrusts one of her toddler twins into Millie's arms testing a theory. Score! The innocent child holds the 'power' at bay, and Maya immediately drags a reluctant Millie into a town party. Of course, the boys wander away, and Millie runs for the woods. Unfortunately, nobody told Wyatt about Millie's problem and, when his lion recognizes Millie as his mate, he takes up the chase.

Amazed at the coming together, the town residents can't become complacent with Millie's control issue. It seems unknown threat from her past keeps triggering her lethal talent, and there's a mystery to solve before someone dies.

Big Furry Deal serves up the classic Celia Kyle shifters, danger, passion and humor readers love...as always with unique twists that keep the series fresh. Now begins the impatient wait until Maya and crew grace us with the next rollicking adventure!

Ok... I've devoured this series non-stop (1-8). So this is more a collective review...

What started off as a feisty human being claimed by the big alpha of the local lion pride with all her antics to not submit to the big overprotective mate who was suppose to be a one night stand, really has turned into a gem if a series. As most of the guards her Prime mate put in charge of Prima Maya's safe keeping have discovered their other half. This series has bunny shifters, squirrels, foxes and even a hedgehog. But mostly lions as Ridgeville is home to the largest lion pride which made them the target for the largest threat to the shifter community, Alistar leader of the a Freedom group who wants to remove all shifter leadership. This threat, which leads to kidnapping, abuse and discovery of just how twisted and sick this polar bear shifter really was, brings a new level to this series that moves from witty females getting a lot of heated action from their mates to a community that has opened its pride to the damaged and abuse female sensitives that were the victims of Freedom for years. These are very dark stories interwoven with Maya and her BFFs ability to create humor in the darkest and dangerous of situations. In their world, the only danger is a freezer without ice cream.

This story was of the most damaged sensitive Millie, who was taken from her family at age 2 and repeatedly beaten tortured and raped for almost 30 years until the council discovered them and she was sent to the Ridgeville pack and community to heal and discovers her mate Wyatt.

I love Big Furry Deal. Poor Millie. One of the women imprisoned and brutalized by Freedom, she never even knew her real name, having been captured at the age of two and used, brutally, by Alistair’s men. Now, with help from the women of the pride and two rescued shifters, she has a new home in Ridgeville, and the rather overbearing support of Maya, who is determined to salvage her new bestie. She’s even discovered a mate. But . . . for Millie, having a mate is a horrible, no good, he’ll end up very dead, bad idea. She’s got what some refer to as a “control problem.” In other words: she has no control and that’s her problem. For her little control problem really, really hates men – as in ‘piss me off and I can make your head explode, literally’ sort of hatred. No one in the pride trusts her (well, except for Maya and the girls. And really, who cares what the alpha thinks when Maya is really the one in charge?) The threat from Freedom is still alive and kicking, even if Alistair is dead. And the danger may cost Millie her life – unless her mate and the pride can track down the danger. Of course, when the danger appears again, it’s the awesomesauce women of the pride who truly bring it on!

“Alex is the pride’s Prime so of course he’s the boss. I gave him permission to say that and everything.”

Love the characters but a bit too sexy.

This is book 8 in the Ridgeville pride series and I love it. The characters are amazing, the books do not take themselves too seriously (even though they deal. With traumatic subjects like rape) there is a lot.of.humour, mainly centred around Maya the prices Prima ( Primes wife). Its fun to see the list of character's expand with each book as new people.are.introduced ,but we are always kept abreast of what is happening within the pride. All the.men are strong silent types, but Alpha males.dominant. The women though are more than a match for them, even when dealing with past traumas these women stand firm, to protect their mate and their home they will.do.whatever they have to. Millie is one such, kidnapped as a small.child, held locked up in a compoud, beaten and abused from a young age then when she was old enough raped, she has no control.over any aspect of her life. Now, free for the first time she has no idea how to act, how to be around other people ---------especially men------------ but then she meets Wyatt and everything is different, he's her mate and her salvation,.if she can find the courage to reach for it. Four stars why?it's the sex scenes they are very intense and use quite graphic language, not a problem if that's what you enjoy reading but I find as I get older graphic no longer appeals to.me.

I love this series. It's the equivalent of eating candy - yummy and awesome!

This story is about Millie, one of the escapees from years of torture. She's a very powerful Sensitive with the ability to drop all shifters with a tiny slip of her concentration. Through years of abuse her power got twisted into something horrible instead of the gift it should be. She's been working on getting back on track, but the only thing it's really done is give people a 10 second head start before she drops everyone around her. Everyone, that is, except for Wyatt. This shockingly paired up couple of mates ends up giving a bit of healing to the both of them.

There is always a little bit of action thrown into these tales, and this one has some mysteriously missing time in Millie's head. She can't remember where her bruises are coming from and she even has some bite marks (that really upset her mate). Just when you thought we killed all the bad guys, they just keep coming back. I'm glad this town has a great way of coming together to kick some bad guy butt.

If you're looking for a fun, romantic, and super sexy read, this author never disappoints.

I loved this latest instalment in the series. Wyatt and Millie are great characters and they really had some trauma's in their pasts that finding each other helped to heal.

Poor Wyatt, I really felt for him with the memories of his mothers rejection, if I ever met the women I'd have a hard time keeping from hitting her and telling her off for how she treated her son.

As for Millie, she had an even tougher time then Elise, Elise's damage was just her fox retreating from her and hiding but poor Millie was literally split in three considering her human half, animal half and power had all separated and wouldn't work together for her, in fact her animal half and her power were trying to take her over to protect her and keeping her memories from her.

I love that Wyatt managed to make the three parts of her unite for the first time in as long as Millie could remember. they both deserved their happiness and I loved how Maya and the other girls gathered round Millie to make her part of their gang and support her! I always have a giggle when Maya and the rest get involved!

probably more of a 3 1/2 star. MF shapeshifter romance I've bounced around in this series and I've liked some and some I've not. This was interesting in that the heroine had an unusual power for a shapeshifter. Only a 3 1/2 star because things were tied up a bit to neatly and quickly I missed some of the humor from previous books. Still had funny parts but just not as much. The heroine also dealt with her years of abuse so easily. Even with a supernatural mate bond I would think there would be more of an issue. The paranormal aspect is the only thing that could have made someone deal with 30 years of abuse and jump into a relationship so quickly. That said I love the Ridgeville series. Pretty good solid fairly quick reads. Usually LOL funny with some mystery to solve and some hot lovin going on in between.

This book rounds out the stories of the five guards who protect the Prima of the Pride. This is Wyatt's story.
Millie and Wyatt both suffer from their own demons. Neither believe they are deserving of a mate, but that's the one thing they both crave. Normalcy, family and someone to love them unconditionally. And they do their best to push each other away. But Wyatt's lion and Millie's panther, don't agree with their human counter parts. They could have their happy ever after, if they can get Millie's cat, and her extreme powers under control. Trying to kill every male at first sight with her power is not sitting too well with the Pride who have taken her in.
This is a fun series. The books are fairly short and make for a nice afternoon read. They have sexy alpha males, who enjoy being tamed by their curvy, snarky mates.

Panther shifter Millie was one of the ones captured and abused by Freedom. They took her when she was 2 yrs. old and she doesn't even know what her real name is. She has been abused for 30 yrs. and she doesn't remember most of what happened to her. She has what some would say is a control problem only around men. Maya took her under her wing and she convinced Millie to come hang out when she meets her mate. She hopes she can control her powers and not send him six feet under.
Wyatt has issues of his own when her was 5 yrs. old his human mother rejected him the first time he shifted. He has trust issues and he doesn't think he deserves to have someone love him. Will Wyatt and Millie find a middle ground so they both can find the happiness they both deserve.

This was a great addition to this series
Bethy (Amelia or Millie) is another one of the damaged women saved from Freedom. Unfortunately, her sensitive powers have gone awry in a massive, uncontrollable way. Seems fair her powers are trying to protect her after all that she has been through. Loved her panther as well.
Wyatt has been a loner even as he has been part of the pride. When he tells Bethy about his childhood I wanted to cry. Rotten mother, she doesn’t deserve being called that.
Wyatt and Bethy both think they are no good as mate material and try to stay away from the other. Not happening.
How they get together and deal with a danger from Freedoms and Bethy’s past makes for a great story.

4 1/2 stars. I love it when an author can combine humor action/ suspense, and very serious subject matter with so much humor you can go from tears to laughter within a page--and do it well. I have read the previous books in this series--and loved all of them. What makes this one a little different is the emotional past both the H and h have gone through, who have made hem what they are today, and how they deal win it within their relationship. The reader still gets Maya's fantastic one-liners at the beginning of each chapter (I adore those), and super steamy love scenes. The suspense was well plotted, and the story had a good flow. I look forward to the next one!

Always enjoy Celia Kyle. She can take a serious dangerous situation that affects a female (shifter) and spin it as a love story as well. Wyatt (who has been seen in many of the Ridgeville series books) and Millie are a damaged couple, him from his family and her from those crazy shifters who keep kidnapping and hurting shifter females. Love Wyatt - he is going to protect Millie, no matter what. And Maya is a hoot, as usual, but she plays an important role as the female Alpha (or Prima) because she gets even the Alpha to understand that Millie just needs help because of her damage, rather than giving up on her because of her latent danger.

Mind games, genius level

I absolutely loved Millie's story! Celia Kyle has a gift with the way she takes broken characters and fills them with plausible emotions and incredible inner strength. It makes me wish I were a character in her book so I can be transformed into a kick ass powerhouse of awesomeness. Millie is broken and uncontrollable, maybe even hopelessly unfixable, and then Maya steps in, who, I seriously think is Celia Kyle's literary alter ego, and sets things in motion. There is a painful past, violence, hot love scenes, a creepy bad guy, whose denouement is EPIC by the way. This is a freaking amazing piece of work that you should read like, right now!

You know there are too many sex scenes in a book when you start skimming them and actually look forward to the rest of the story. Huh. I sure as hell resented them 'cause I wanted to find out more about the a*hole attacking her and all they seemed to care about was more sex. A balance would've been nice. I mean, a couple pages from the end and they barely have an idea of who is attacking her but, by all means, anal sex. Anal sex fixes everything. And then..then it was such a f*cked ending I'm not even commenting because I have nothing nice to say. At all. And because I'm pissed at said ending I simply can't give more than a two star rating.
