This one really didn't do anything for me. I didn't hate it but I didn't love it.

Once again insta-love rears it's ugly head....

I guess I probably should have expected it since this turned out to only be around 100 pages.

The storyline was pretty predictable and not very believable either.

Monica has been on the run since she was 18--with her twin siblings in tow. Now 21 (the twins are 17), Monica is forced to pick pockets in order to get cash. She can't keep a job because she has to keep her true identity hidden so her past doesn't catch up with her.

Seth is a cop and is assigned the case of bringing said pick pocketer in. So he's been watching Monica. And when he finally catches her, he discovers that he's attracted to her. See he came from the streets too. So he can see that she's in trouble, running from something. Seth wants to help her.

Monica doesn't trust anyone. But of course she trusts Seth.

Queue the insta love.

And then of course the story wouldn't be complete without

Um...no! Not buying it.

And then the best part. The grand finale. The perfect ending.....

It just wasn't long enough to develop the story or the characters in a way to make the story believable. It was well written....it just didn't wow me.

Well the cover is convincing, but the story not so much. The plot and character development was just barely developed enough to keep my going. The story was predictable, but most are it is how it happens that pulls us in, and this at least did that for me.
Monica has run away from home and an ugliness there that was her life. In tow she brings her twin siblings Jack and Sarah who are 17. She works odd jobs and pick pockets so that they can exist. We get the impression that they are pretty impoverished yet they live in a two bedroom apartment. This just doesn't make sense to me. If you are that broke have a hard time keeping a job and can barley make your bills wouldn't you live in something smaller. Yes, I know I am being picky, but there were other things in the story that just didn't seem consistent with the circumstances that they were in at times. A back story in certain parts of the story would have been helpful for the plot and the characters.
I did really like Seth he is the hot officer that is sent to investigate and catch the pick pocket. Yes, he finds her and they fall into lust/love. He is super protective and sweet with Monica and her siblings. Monica is a tough girl who is fiercely protective of her siblings, and willing to take them away from the ugly and care for them.
The story was just

I really liked this short book. Yes, it could have had a little more character and story development, but as it stands I read it straight through and enjoyed it. This is the story of Monica, stealing from people on the street to try and support her brother and sister who she took away from a horribly, abusive situation with their stepfather, who is still searching for them. Unknown to Monica, the police have Monica in their sights, especially policeman Seth, who because he was homeless once in his life, has taken an interest in this girl and what could possibly make her so desperate to resort to stealing.

When Seth finally catches Monica, instead of arresting her he tries to help her with her situation, eventually offering she and her siblings to move into his home. Unfortunately that then puts him in the line of fire for the people trying to find Monica.

One negative word -- what an ugly cover for a pretty good book. I have no idea who it is supposed to portray.

There was nothing really wrong with the book. The hero, heroine and story was nice enough. But that was it for me. It was nice enough.

Review of Damaged- By Indigo Sin
R.L. Bailey
5 of 5 angel wings
5 of 5 flames for heat

What do you say, about a book so good, you read it in less than three hours? Well, if you read Damaged, by Indigo Sin, you will see what I mean. Damaged tells the story of Monica, a street pickpocket, and Seth, the man who discovers her. Monica at first seems like a typical street thief, lifting wallets and snatching jewelry right off the arms of the rich college kids who prowl the night going from club to club. She’s not doing it to get money for the reasons you would think though, she has responsibilities that no twenty-four year old should have. Namely, her teenage brother and sister, who she snatched away from a drug addicted mother and stepfather who makes you believe in the death penalty.
“Stuffing the new prize into her pocket, Monica chewed the inside of
her cheek and waited for her next opportunity. The weight of the baubles in
her coat felt like a ton of rocks, weighing her down.
Stealing is wrong. You’re better than this.”
Monica barely manages to steal enough to keep her family in food and pay the rent. There is no such thing as luxuries for our girl. She just wants to keep her family together. One night, she meets Seth, after he chases and catches her. He is intrigued, curious and when he discovers that his target is a woman, Seth is more than interested. As a cop assigned to find the street thief, when he looks into her eyes, he knows he can no more turn her in then he can cut his own hand off.
Monica is damaged, from a brutal past that no one should ever have to endure. The truth is so devastating, that from a readers stand point, even though in your heart you know what’s coming, when it finally does, it takes your breath away. Monica is a survivor because she’s managed to turn off any human feelings, other than those that pertain to her siblings, Sarah and Jack.
Through a series of events, Seth convinces Monica and family to move in with him. Finally having some stability, the reader sees our heroine slowly open up, and start to believe that maybe her life really is getting better.
“Standing at the sink, Monica wrung out the washcloth she’d been
using, before draping it carefully over the faucet. Cooking and cleaning had
become something she truly enjoyed in the few weeks living at Seth’s. For
the first time she felt like she had a home. Not just a place to sleep, or a
place to tolerate. A place she felt safe—able to relax. A genuine home.”
DAN. Just the name sends chills up the spine. The man who damaged our girl when she was just a child. I don’t want to reveal too much, for to do so would ruin it for the reader, but I can say this, he truly is one of the most evil characters I’ve ever read, because there are men like him in the real world.
Indigo Sin has written an extremely thoughtful, well put together story. The reader can really FEEL what the hero and heroine go through, and the characters are well thought out and very well developed. The love scenes are slow to build, letting the reader savor each and every emotion Monica has right along with her. This story more than once brought tears to my eyes, and this is a book that I will read more than once. Congratulations Indigo, you have a winner here.

Marie's Tempting Reads Review:

This has got to be one of the BEST books by Indigo Sin yet! I absolutely was taken in with Damaged and didn't want it to end. We have Monica a woman who was forced to pickpocket to survive after running away from home with her two siblings in tow because of her step-dad, and losing her job. It was very rough for her and her sister and brother. They were living in poverty, and weren't really making it with their bills when she was caught red-handed by the most SEXIEST and wonderful cop imaginable.
Seth stole my heart from the moment I read he caught up to little Miss pickpocket Monica and wouldn't stop chasing her until she let him help her and her siblings. He was utterly the most fascinating male cop I have read about in a LONG time. I couldn't help but to be fascinated by the story of a damaged young woman who needed protection and a gentle caring man, a cop, that was sexy as all get out and just about the most protective man I read about in a long while.
The sex was sweet, gentle, and surprisingly alluring. I thought, with the kind of past Monica had, this gentle love-making was perfect for this type of romance story and to me, it was steamy and ever so sexy.
Indigo Sin created, in my opinion, the most intriguing and captivating story as of yet. She not only created this masterpiece but she attempted a whole new genre in romance and just made it work in the best way possible. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this story. Or maybe I can. I give Damaged by Indigo Sin a FIVE OUT OF FIVE STARS! I am ever so curious to see what else Indigo Sin has in store in the future in her writing career and I can't wait to find out!
If you haven't picked up Damaged, don't walk, but RUN to Amazon and pick your copy up. I am sure you won't be disappointed.

Running and hiding from your past is never easy. You can’t stay in one place for too long and you don’t make friends because you have learned you can’t trust people. This is how Monica Cassidy lives. She is doing whatever it takes to support herself and her younger brother and sister. The skill Monica has mastered keeps her out late at night. Her prey doesn’t realize what has happened until she is long gone. But Monica is not the only one hunting the busy streets.

Seth Jackson has been hitting the streets at night for the last month. He is the police officer who was handed a pick-pocket case that should have been closed quickly and he could have. That is until he saw the person committing the crimes. When he finally got the chance to take this person down, literally, and looked into those honey brown eyes a different instinct kicked in. Seth knew there was more to these crimes and why they were being committed. He just needed to find a way to get her to trust him.

Indigo Sin has given us a wonderful story. Action (criminal/passionate), danger, romance with characters you will quickly become invested in. A story about the damage people do to each other. What happens when the damage turns you into someone you never thought you would become? Is there a chance the damage can be undone or will you always be damaged? Pick up this book and find the answer *wink*

4.5 STARS

Damaged by Indigo Sin is different than her other work and I am loving it! When an author expands their writing into new territories or genres it shows such diversity. It takes talent and hard work.

Monica is a spitfire who is truly a sweet person. She is only trying to survive and keep her younger siblings alive. Seth grew up in a way that is heart breaking. He turned himself around and became a cop. Saving Monica from a certain horrific situation and offering his home to her and her siblings, Seth finds a family.

We get to see glimpses of their budding romance. We see that there can be goodness even after living a life that is so dire. Both Monica and Seth had demons to work through. After all of the heartache and pain, the ending is wonderful.

This is not your typical romantic suspense. Damaged is a dark and gritty story that I could not put down. Thank you Miss Sin for a heart wrenching and riveting story!

Stopped reading at 60% into the book. The romance was lukewarm and the story itself was so predictable that I didn't need to go any further to know the ending.

If you hate instant love stories you won't like this one. I couldn't understand the attraction between the H/heroine, besides them being both beautiful.
The Hero seemed the obsessive kind with stalker tendencies, whereas the heroine had a tragic past that although made me feel sorry for her, didn't make me like her.

I didn't even finish this book...I'm actually really surprised at the higher reviews. This book was so predictable. What bothered me the most was how awful the writing was. So simple, juvenile. I feel like a high schooler wrote it. I love my romance, I love books..this is the ONLY book I've ever rated a one star. So that should tell u how much I hated it.

Pretty decent story, although the time line didn't fit with the second half of the story. Once Monica moved in with Seth, it skip ahead 6 weeks but the details afterward don't really mesh well with the time line. I think the author was trying not to go for the instalove but not doing so messed up the flow of the story. Overall it ended up being good but just that one element messed it up.

Meh.

It skipped some weeks in the time frame and it was a crucial point for me - the relationship building really.

Needs more development. Both plot development and character development.
