The day my life took an inevitable detour things got a little crazy.

My name is Essalin Brant, but everyone calls me Essa. I attend a small college in a tiny town, and in my twenty-two years of life I’ve never even traveled outside the state of Pennsylvania. You could say my life is pretty boring. I live by the rules. I’m a good girl and nothing exciting ever happens.

But that’s all about to change.

Enter Farren Shaw. Not only is he older and intimidating, but he’s more sure of himself than any 29-year-old man has a right to be. Did I mention that he’s drop-dead gorgeous? Well, he is. He also happens to be my best friend Haven’s brother. And I would be content with just fantasizing about Farren from afar, but when Haven suddenly goes missing, her gorgeous brother is the only one who believes me when I say she was abducted, even though all signs seem to suggest Haven left town willingly.

I know better, though. As does Farren. So when he asks me to accompany him to search for his sister, I accept.

That’s when the real adventure begins.

Our quest to find Haven takes us across the country. And throughout the time we spend together, I find myself falling for Farren . . . falling hard. He's everything I’ve ever wanted. But is he really someone I should fear?

Because aside from making me feel things I’ve never felt before, Farren is hiding something. Something big. What could this stunning man be keeping from me? And why? Is Haven’s disappearance somehow connected to his mysterious job?

All I know is that things are about to get real.

Welcome to the Inevitable Detour that has become my life.

4 Sexy and Suspenseful Stars

Inevitable Detour starts off with us getting a feeling for exactly who Essalin is....

Essalin is a Junior in college and rooming with her best friend Haven… First..let me comment on how awesome the characters name's are in this book!! Ok.. on to Essa.. she is following her parents’ wishes of getting a business degree even though it’s not what she wants. She’s not exactly sure what it is she wants to do.. she just knows that right now, she’s not doing it. Essa is not living for herself. Sure she’s happy.. in a boring sort of way.. but she’s just not feeling fulfilled. Walking the halls one afternoon after class.. she happens to hear another professor speaking .. something about the teachers voice makes her stop and listen.. and the teachers words just resonate through her……..

ominous. “Just because you think fate or destiny hasn’t yet guided your life in some noticeable way doesn’t mean it won’t happen. I promise you, my friends, you will end up where you’re supposed to be. And how can I say that with such certainty? The answer is simple: You can’t escape your destiny.”

Okay, so where will fate lead me? What is my destiny?

Essa

Farren.. hot sexy Farren. He is Haven’s older brother and has a pretty secretive job. Even Haven’s not really sure exactly what it is he used to do. Former military man//special OPS. Although Essa has never met him personally.. she’s had a crush on him for as long as she’s known Haven since they met right before school started. Just his picture gets her all worked up. She may have a chance to meet him this summer though if she can get the nerve to go to NY with Haven over the summer and defy her parents’ wishes that she take summer classes…

Farren

One night at the end of the school year… finals are done.. … a hot club… potential for a rocking summer---- girls are dressed up and ready for anything.. Unfortunately .. they get much more than they bargained for when they meet 2 older guys at the club. Essa wakes up the morning after –and Haven is gone. The cops think Haven left on her own, but Essa knows better. When Farren shows up looking for Haven also, Essa knows something is up. Farren seemed to already know what was going on and is looking for clues…. He’s about to set out across country looking for his sister and Essa is not about to let him leave her behind. Not only is Essa anxious to find out what happened to her friend.. this is her chance to finally do SOMETHING!

What follows from that point is Farren and Essalin looking for clues about Haven’s whereabouts and them spending lots of time in close quarters getting to know each other. One of the things I loved most about this story is that at no point did either Essa or Farren try to deny or fight their feelings for one another. They both acknowledged the feelings they had for each other and were ready to explore where things could go… Essa is feeling things she's never felt before and she's willing to see where things could really go with Farren-- eve even in the midst of the hunt for Haven.

But if things go in the direction I hope for, I sense a man like Farren would be careful with my heart. I sigh and hope that someday Farren Shaw might actually want my heart.

But Farren is keeping something from Essa.. there is a lot more going on than just his sister being taken and Essa is bound and determined to figure out what it is…. Danger surrounds them and Farren has to save Haven, but now he has to keep the woman he’s falling for safe also.

This was a real page turner…. There was always something going on, even when it was just Farren and Essa getting to know each other. The sexual tension between them was strong and the hot factor was pretty high. Throw in some bad guys and a few twists, and you’ve got the recipe for a great romantic suspense!

Although this book does end in a cliffhanger, it’s one that I felt comfortable with and wasn’t throwing my Kindle across the room. It ended in a great place, so don’t let your aversion to cliffy’s detour you from this one! If you enjoy romantic suspense, then don’ t let this one pass you up! Definitely looking forward to book 2 in this series! If I had one wish for the next book..it would be to have some of Farren's point of view. I'm really looking forward to learning more about him and I'd just LOVE to get inside his head!

DNF @ 30%

I hate it when a book with a promising blurb pulls me in and then just absolutely falls flat for me :( So I'm just gonna keep this simple and straight to the point.

1. Heroine with annoying inner monologues. For me in every book, it's important that I love the heroine I'm connecting with, or at least, tolerable in some sense. This one was just messy. Couldn't understand her at all and especially her super HUGE crush/lust over her best friend's brother. Mind you, she hasn't even met him before. She practically cyberstalks this dude D:

And it just get more awful when she finally meets him *cringes*.

2. Zero suspense. 30% in and I'm just lazily flipping my pages, praying to God something interesting happens. But nope. It's awfully draggy. And painful to read more annoying lustful thoughts from the heroine.

3. Zero connection to MCs. Obviously I disliked the heroine as per Point 1. And the guy MC is just acting kind of distant and all secretive. Which does not amuse me at all and definitely does not pique my interest in the slightest.

The only Inevitable Detour I'm taking is away from this book.

Ugh I'm not even sorry for DNF-ing this.

4 Love Unexpected Stars

"Every person's life is destined for a certain path. We may not realise it, especially when it's happening, but we will end up where we're supposed to be."

description

Well... let's get this hell party, started!

Essa, is a young student, fairly sheltered and in love with her best friend's brother from afar. She lives an ordinary life until the night, her aforementioned friend Haven, is abducted and a domino effect begins... The result? Her life took an inevitable detour and will never be the same again.

description

With Haven's brother, the mysterious and enigmatic Farren Shaw, she embarks on a rescue mission that will threaten her view of the world and result in a love that blindfolded both of them. But nothing is as it seems, everyone has secrets and ALL of them are lying. Their feelings will be put on test and maybe they won't get out alive. Or even sane.

Well... WHOA! I honestly didn't get this book until 60%. I was ready to discard it as an easy read, blah, hot romance, blah, great chemistry kind of story. And then...

description

In what I like to call, usual S.R Grey fashion, (sorry I almost misjudged you Susie!) everything turned complicated and dark. And then twisted. Whoa! I totally didn't see it coming. And even worse, to top all this off, a signature S.R Grey ending, had me pulling my hair off! Have mercy on us!

I agree with other reviewers about the slow beginning, but this book deserves your attention and will reward you for it. It touches a very sensitive matter with care and respect, without hiding the truth. The problem is real and it concerns us all.

Looking forward to the next and I expect non-stop action in it!

Inevitable Detour is book one in the Inevitability series and is a Romance, Suspense written by S.R. Grey. I was gifted a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review through Xpresso Book Tours .

4 Suspenseful Sexy Stars!
Just The Right Amount of Intrigue, Steam and Angst for An All Nighter!

The Review:
I really enjoyed this read. It was well written and had an amazingly suspenseful feel wrapped around a terrific story. I loved the characters and their chemistry was hot and sexy! Once I started this read, I just couldn’t put it down which lead to an all night read-a-thon. Those are the best!

Story/Characters...
Twenty-two year old Essalin Brant is enduring the final days of college before summer vacation. She’s as straight and narrow as they come, she’s never committed a crime and she’s heading towards a life she doesn't want. She follows the rules, she’s innocent and her biggest rebellion is answering a few questions wrong on her finals just to feel some sort of power over the life her parents have mapped out for her. She’s bored and frustrated but that all changes when she and her best friend Haven go out clubbing. In the blink of an eye, Essa is thrust into a world where innocence is stolen and crimes are committed.

Farren Shaw, once in the special ops, now makes his living doing secret missions for an unknown benefactor and his mysterious lifestyle has just come back to haunt him, or at least that’s what Essa thinks when he shows up at her apartment, looking for her missing roommate and his lost sister.

Told in Essa’s POV, together, these two embark on a journey across state lines to find the missing Haven before it’s too late. But as the days pass and they become more entrenched in the dangers of men who have no morals, Essa finds a new lease on life but also perilous situations she never thought existed as well as a love she thought she was only capable of fantasizing about.

Characters...
Essa was a bit of a hopeless romantic. Through stories Haven told of her brother and pictures she showed proudly, Essa fell in love with a mystery she didn’t know any real facts about. I loved her openness and straight forward thinking. Even in the midst of all this adventure, suspicion and intrigue, she never doubted Farren’s true intentions to find his sister, whom he doted on and took care of. She was infatuated and when she gets the chance to actually meet him, she’s completely entranced.

Farren is in this risky lifestyle. He was doing these secretive things where he had to encounter truly corrupt men but he wasn’t hardened or cold. He was kind, caring and did things that were sweet and loving for Essa. He was yummy and swoon-worthy and full of charm. And the mystery surrounding him only added fuel to his intrigue.

I really enjoyed the story. I’ve read many books centered on this theme but this author does it differently. She takes a seriously dark subject and centers a light, romantic air in it through her hero and heroine as they find love on their journey. Essa and Farren’s chemistry was hot and their cause was honorable. But the lightness fades soon enough as Essa finds things don’t always stay in the past.

The Wrap Up:
This book leaves off on a big cliffy so be warned but don’t be afraid to read it anyhow because there is enough story and promise of things to come, to tide you over until book two’s release! And I can’t wait to see how this turns out.

It is said the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Life is not a one way street. It is filled with bumps, turns, and detours. The beauty of life is that it is filled with many possibilities and directions. And in the case of S.R. Grey’s Inevitable Detour, life took an unexpected course and direction. So do you dare to go on this different path where tomorrow is unknown?

INEVITABLEDETOUR

Essa Brant is a 22 year college student, who never strayed off course. Her sheltered and manicured life was dictated by her parents. She never did a rebellious act in her life till an unexpected course took her on a different path when her roommate and best friend, Haven goes missing. So when Haven’s brother, Farren Shaw shows up at her apartment, Essa makes the biggest decision of her life. She decides to tag along with Farren in search and rescuing Haven. And so begins the journey of Essa and Farren.

Farren, an ex-military uses his skills and knowledge in trying to locate his baby sister. In the course of trying to track the exact location of Haven, romantic feelings begins to surface and bloom between Farren and Essa. They soon find themselves inevitably attracted to one another. And so another detour is in the works for Essa and Farren. A road where these two find themselves falling in love. What begins as a rescue mission, blooms into layers of suspense and romance as the secrets begins to unravel on why Haven was targeted. On this new detour and course, what bumps and turns will Essa and Farren will run into?

I enjoyed reading Inevitable Detour by S.R. Grey . This being the first book that I have read from this author, I look forward to reading more books from her. Ms. Grey was able to incorporate and weave layers to the story and give her readers a better understanding for the motives for all the characters. Secrets begins to unravel. The truths are revealed. Love blooms. Second Chance at life is given. And the road that leads to tomorrow is unknown and uncertain but one thing is for certain, sometimes taking that detour could be the best decision in life. So if you are looking for a book that has romance and suspense all in one then look no further and go read Inevitable Detour.

How many ways can I say I love you????

I was WOWed by SR's new book & new series.

S.R. Grey does not disappoint in not only writing some hot smutty sex with hottie hot hot MEN but that her heroines are something to be proud of.

This is the one author I am guaranteed to never be angry at the Heroine for swooning too hard or just being a naive idiot... She is a genius at writing her women strong. They may get into situations way beyond that they can cope with but they don't flop around and whine as the men pick up the pieces. They may not be FULLY equipped to deal but they do it with right heart and full on brave-warrior-princess mode.
Dare I say..  S.R. writes women who are EXACT counterparts to their men.

So that is the story of Essa, who is in love with her roommate's brother who she has never met. Essa who has been shelved all her life by her over-achieving parents who do not allow her to step a foot into Fun-World that when opportunity presides to finally rebel... she doesn't just dip her toe she jumps full in. And no it is not into some wild parties and drinking... NO! its on a dangerous mission to rescue her room-mate who was kidnapped by nefarious forces with nefarious intentions.
Again, though, I am reminded of how different our lives are. Farren is a warrior. He’s seen and done things I can’t even begin to fathom. But I like his worldliness. Just like I know he likes my innocence. We balance each other in that way, like two sides to a coin.

She embarks on this adventure with her roommate's brother who has just as many secrets as the reason why her best friends was kidnapped. A journey that is not only a rescue mission but also a coming-of-age for Essa as she develops into said strong woman and a perfect woman for Farren.
Yeah, the mighty, strong Farren Shaw can fight most anything. But he can’t fight what is destined. He can’t fight his own inevitable detour—me.

This book is full of twist and turns and a crazy ending. If you are looking for a strong female, HOT alpha man, crazy twisty secrets.... Look no further grab a copy and enjoy. I like books as thank-you's

ARC provided by author for an honest review. Thank you!!

Farren and Essa set out on a road-trip trying to track down Haven, Farren's sister and Essa's best friend and roommate. She's gone missing and it's imperative they find her as soon as possible.

Along the way Farren and Essa track Haven's credit card, search for clues and get updates. Essa knows Farren has more intel then he's letting on and as time rolls by, she pushes him to open up to her.

During the course of their journey, they fall into an easy companionship and build it into something more. There's no need to define it as they simply become a "them".

And soon Essa finds out way more then she would have ever guessed and its definitely not a little can of worms she's found herself opening. There's bigger fish in the sea and more at stake then meets the eye. It's a dangerous world out there.

Will they be able to find Haven in time? Will their new found relationship stand the aftermath when they get to the end of the road?

What I Liked:
1. Farren. He's mysterious. He has secrets. He's as dangerous as his job. He can be sweet and swoon worthy and definitely a good lover.
2. Fast paced story.
3. Everything in the story helps to move it along with out it being unnecessary.
4. There's never a dull moment and the story keeps you on your toes.
5. A couple of good twists.
6. The couple don't get in their own way; nor do they play games with each other. And they have no problem with showing the other how they feel.
7. Little bits of humor
8. The cover!!

I'm looking forward to the next and final book to conclude this series.

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review

Inevitable Detour is a romantic suspense with lots of mystery as well as many twists and turns. The suspense will keep you turning the pages, if not racing through to find out what happens next. Main character Essa is a very sheltered student who just finished her third year of college. She's held down by overbearing parents who seem to make every decision for her.

When Essa's roommate, Haven, disappears, Essa knows she was kidnapped, though the police think she's crazy. She departs on a cross-country adventure with Haven's brother Farren to find her (against her parents' wishes). I never really connected with Essa--she's all over the place with her emotions. Frankly she annoyed me at times. Her interactions with Haven were strange... Essa was a completely different person around her than in school and with her parents. In the beginning, her big act of defiance against her parents was answering a question wrong on her final even though she knew the correct answer. Then later that night she puts on a show at a local bar with Haven, becoming the main attraction.

It was really hard not to love Farren, even though I don't usually like the alpha male who keeps secrets from the heroine (one of my pet peeves). At least he's honest about it. Given his background with the special forces, it's really not surprising. Farren is all kinds of sexy, he even paid for his sister's college education. His feelings for Haven make him human, and his secretive job makes him mysterious.

While the plot captured my interest, I wouldn't call it fast-paced. I don't like a lot of extraneous descriptions, and this novel was full of them. There were times when I felt mired and began skimming to get to the next scene. The romance between Essa and Farren was sweet and developed at a swift pace. If you like romantic suspense with an intriguing mystery and a swoon-worthy hero, check out Inevitable Detour.

~~ 4 "Suspense Filled" Stars ~~

Talk about a book that will keep you on the edge of your seat and begging for the next book to come out soon!!  Inevitable Detour is just that kind of book.

This is the third book by this author that I have read and I think her books just keep getting better.  This book was filled with drama, suspense, mystery, twists and turns you won't see coming and of course a really sweet love story.  Even though I really enjoyed this book and reading about Essa and Farren's love story, I kind of thought that it over shadowed the true storyline of the book and that was the kidnapping of Essa's friend Haven.  I thought that was resolved a little too quick.  Even with that said I truly enjoyed this story.  I thought the character and storyline were developed well and the flow and pace of the story were great!!  I thought the author did a great job of only giving us the information that was pertinent to the story and not load us down with too much extra stuff that tends to slow the story down.  As a warning for those who don't like cliffhangers...this is not a standalone and does end with a cliffhanger.  It is story based one, not relationship based.   Essentially the author sets up the start of the next book in the epilogue.  This isn't one that will have you throwing your kindle but you will definitely want the next book quick!!

I thought Essa and Farren were really great characters. Essa was a girl who was in her third year of college following what her parents wanted her to do. I loved watching Essa become her own person in this book. She really decided to do what she wanted to do and stood up to her parents. We also find out that something happens to her in her freshman year, which could've broken her, but with the help of her BFF Haven, she overcame it and it didn't slow her down. What I loved most about these characters were they weren't the typical NA characters we see in most books these days. Yes things happened to both Farren and Essa, but they didn't let them break them completely. Essa was still a strong girl, who knew what she wanted and Farren wasn't the typical 20 something who turned to booze and girls to forget his troubles. Now I am not saying that Farren hasn't done some things he's not proud of in his past, but there were reasons for those.

I can't really talk about the storyline too much because anything that is talked about would be a spoiler for the story. This story starts out where we meet Essa and Haven (Essa's Bff/roommate and Farren's Sister). Haven was hurt by an ex boyfriend, so they venture out to have a good time and meet some boys. What happens here is what makes up the rest of the book. Haven is taken and Essa has to turn to Haven's brother Farren to help get her back. This book kind of reminded me a little of the movie Taken. Farren and Essa go on a road trip to track Haven down. There are then a bunch of twists and turns to this story that I never saw coming. You really need to read this story to find out what happens and will Haven be rescued???

My only complaint would be that I wish we would've gotten some of Farren's POV during the story. There were scenes that happened that I would've liked to know what he was thinking. I am really hoping that in the next book we get some of his POV. I also hope that certain things that were kind of hinted to in this book are expanded on in book 2.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a sweet love story that also has some great spice and twists and turns. If you are also a fan of S.R. Grey, then you don't want to miss this book!!!

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

When I heard S.R. Grey was coming out with a new series, words could not express the excitement! I was immediately intrigued by this Farren Shaw. Inevitable Detour is one of those books that grip you from the first word to the very last page.

“An inevitable detour led me here, to this turning post, and this is the juncture where I choose.”

Twenty two Essalin (Essa) Brant lives her life for everyone else, particularly her parents. She has everything planned out to please them. She’s never broken a rule. So when her best friend, Haven goes missing, she wants nothing more than to break the rules to accompany Haven’s older (and HOT) brother, Farren to find her. Essa is supposed to take summer classes and be the good daughter she has always been. But she’s determined to find Haven and she knows Farren is the only one that can make this happen. This detour in her life turns out to be so much more than she could have ever imagined.

“If you’re still breathing, you can change your life. You can always alter your direction, embark on a different route.”

As Essa and Farren embark across the country to find Haven, they find themselves getting closer. Farren is mysterious and slowly gives pieces of himself to Essa. Essa is drawn to his assertiveness and control. He knows what he wants out of life and goes for it. He listens to Essa as she spills her heart out telling him her dreams and aspirations. He tells her that only she can change her life. Inevitable Detour is a story about love, loss, sacrifice, and following your own destiny. No matter how and where it leads to.

“But he can’t fight what is destined. He can’t fight his own inevitable detour-me.

The sexual tension between Farren and Essa is off the charts. Despite the danger these two find themselves in, the connection between them is incomparable. While Farren is cocky and confident, Essa holds back. Until Farren. He recognizes her inner strength. She is so much more than the girl who does everything expected of her. Essa has a fighting spirit. I loved her character. She was so genuine and real. Sometimes it takes life experiences for you to realize that for your life to be fulfilled, changes are to be made. It’s growth and a natural part of life. And Farren? Oh how I love him! Let me count the ways. Although mysterious, as he reveals more and more of himself, his heart is of pure gold. He loves so hard. Every action of his is deliberate and is done with his loved ones in mind.

“Somewhere along the way, throughout this crazy journey, I fell in love with you.”

But Farren also has secrets. We know he is former military/special ops, but there is so much more that we don’t know. Just like Essa, I was drawn to Farren. The kidnapping of Haven. Random? Deliberate? All these questions keep you gripped to the story. Oh and once you get your questions answered you think the story ends. Wrong. It is just beginning. Not once will you be able to put this book down. This is the type of story that builds.

“I sigh and hope that some day Farren Shaw might actually want my heart.”

While the heart of the story resides with Farren and Essa’s growing romance, the twists and turns of this story will have you on edge. You sense danger, but you have no idea of what to expect. This book is not predictable. The characters are well developed, the story itself is flawlessly written in true S.R. Grey style where she allows her readers to experience her stories. They’re not read, they’re lived. I will admit, romantic suspense? Wasn’t a thing for me per se. Until now. This book has changed any notion I had about the genre. I was immersed in a story I never wanted to end. I will be (not) patiently waiting for the final book in the series. Don’t let the fact that the final book isn’t out yet, deter you. This book is a must read. If you are looking for a story to capture your mind and your heart, Inevitable Detour is that book.

I one clicked this book the day it went live because I've always loved SR Grey's work. Inevitable Detour was everything I expected.

The cover is my favourite cover of all of SR Grey's books.

Farren is just male perfection. Even though we never read him in military uniform you can just see it! I loved his character, the mystery behind him & the powerhouse exterior with the mushy heart who could be delicate as well as dangerous.
I loved the sisterly love between Essa & Haven. It took me right back to my school days with my best friend (who, unfortunately for me, didn't have a hot older bro. Boo)
I loved the plot, it drew me in & quickly hooked me. I loved the danger & suspense. I love the romance & the sex.
Hell, I love the whole things! Susie, you rock, lady!
Now I'm looking forward to getting a healthy dose of Chase until I can get me some more Farren.

I received an ARC for an honest review. So here goes nothing. This book is absolutely amazing! I think everyone should have this book on their eReader because you will not be able to get enough of Essa and Farren. Farren is smoking hot, wealthy, and former military. He is all around the perfect guy. Essa is a college girl that NEVER breaks the rules. They truly are the perfect couple to balance each other out. I can't wait for the next installment Inevitable Circumstances.

4 Star Review Inevitable Detour (Inevitability #1)

AUDIO REVIEW:

I listened to this book on audio and was invested right from the start, The narrator Keira Stevens is new to me and she did a good job although at times I felt her male voices let the story down a little, although however having said that it was still an enjoyable listen.

This was a a book filled with danger, secrets, lies and surprises. The intrigue and suspense, not to mention the danger kept me on the edge of my seat as I listened to this story.

Will the danger and secrets rip Farren Shaw and Essalin Brant apart? Will they be able to put the pieces of the puzzle together whilst flying under the radar or will danger loom and put their lives and those they around them in jeopardy again?

There are many twists, turns and surprises in Inevitable Detour as Farren and Essa follow the clues and I have to say that I was taken by surprise on a couple of occasions.

Inevitable Detour is the first book in S.R. Grey's Inevitable Duology. The second part, Inevitable Circumstances is said to be coming in the spring of 2015. I was hoping when I started this one that even though it was part one that part two would be about interconnected characters, but that is not the case. Inevitable Detour does end with a cliffhanger, and will continue the story in the next part. While I knew going into this one that there could be that chance, I really wanted to read this one because it sounded good and because I have read some of S.R. Grey's other books and I really loved them. I enjoy her writing style, and couldn't wait to get more of her stories.

Essalin Brant has always lived according to what her parents want her to do. She goes to college in a small town and studies what they want her to. The bright spot in everything is her best friend and roommate Haven. Essalin longs to spend the summer in NYC with Haven and finally meet her older brother Farren, who she has been fantasizing about since the first time she saw his picture. Her parents have told her she can't go and must spend the summer taking classes that she doesn't need at her small college. But when Haven goes missing and Farren shows up at her apartment, Essalin decides it is finally time to do something other than what her parents want. She is determined to help Farren find Haven, and sets out on a trip across country with him. As Essalin begins to learn more about what happened to Haven, she also begins to get to know Farren and things between them quickly begin to change between them. Farren tells her that he can make no promises, but Essalin is open to whatever she can get from him and is determined to finally start living her own life for once.

I really liked both Essalin and Farren. Essalin comes off a bit weak at first because of how she lets her parents essentially run her life for her, but as the story progressed I really liked how she grew and changed. Once she had made the decision to live her life, she was a completely different person. She was stronger, and I loved her loyalty to Haven. She knew going in that it could be dangerous, but she was so dedicated to helping find her. I thought that Farren was really great for her as well, and I think that he was able to help her bring out a whole other side that she hadn't before. Farren was sweet and patient with Essa, and I thought that he was great for taking things slowly with her. He did really nice things for her, and I loved watching them get to know one another. These two just fit together, and it was clear that their mutual attraction had grown into so much more. Their connection was natural and undeniable, and I loved how real and believable they were.

I will say that it took me awhile to get into this story. I am not sure why, but when I was first beginning it just wasn't holding my attention. I thought it was slow and I got worried about whether or not I would be able to finish let alone like it. But then it suddenly changed and picked up. Once it did, I could not put this book down! I am so glad that I stuck with it, because I really loved Essa and Farren. This book really did a great job of perpetuating a believable suspense plot while also giving the reader the growing romance between Essa and Farren. I felt like S.R. Grey did well keeping you interested in what was going on with Haven and her abduction, but also the feelings and emotional bond developing between Essa and Farren. It was a great balance, and I thought that it was really well done. I honestly can't wait to see what happens next and how everything turns out. This story is far from over, and I for one can't wait to get my hands on the next book. If you are a fan of romantic suspense, I would highly recommend giving this one a shot!

Inevitable Detour. S R Grey 5 stars

I was very kindly given a ARC of Inevitable Detour by S R Grey. It was absolute honour to read his book and loved it from start to finish.

Essa Brant lives in a small town and goes to college there. She has never left her tiny town before as her parents are very controlling and even through she's a straight A student her parents want her to keep working harder and harder as nothing is good enough for them. Essa follows everything her parents ask her to, even though she doesn't want to.
Essa and her best friend Haven were planning to visit Farren, Havens brother once there school year is over. Essa has never met Farren but she has always had a crush on him. So when her parents say that she can't go away with Haven for the summer she is devastated.

"I love Haven, and I'd do anything for her. She's certainly done some selfless things for me, no doubt about that. As a result, were close, thicker than thieves some say"

To celebrate their last exams Haven and Essa go on to celebrate with a night out. When out they meet some very gorgeous mysterious men who they like and go home with. When Essa awakes the next day she doesn't feel right, the men from the night before have gone, but so has HAVEN!
This is when the adventure begin

Haven and Farren take off across country to find Haven, but at the same time as finding Haven, are they starting to find love?

"A thrill shoots through me at the thought of spending even a mere minute with Farren. Now there's an inevitable detour I'd like to take"

The story starts with a real nice build up, with a little background about all 3 characters. The story is moving along at a nice pace, then BAM the story really takes off.
Even though Essa is worried about Haven she is happy to finally get to meet Farren. They start to build a friendship over there journey, but Farren is very secretive, especially about his job and Essa knows that Farren is not letting on all he knows about what's happened to Haven and that it has something to do with his job.

" He was in the military for years, special ops. He was discharged over a year ago, he still spends a good deal of time in other countries for his "work." All I know is whatever Farren does he gets paid a lot of money"

Farren is a dream guy. He's cocky, mysterious, stunning, confident and dangerous. He's full of secrets, that you can't help but keep turning he pages to find out more and more about him and his secrets.
The story is very fast paced once Haven is taken and everything that happens in the story is things you need to know about. The book is very serious and full of twists and turns, with slight humour every now and then.
I went through the whole book not knowing what was going to happen. Every time I thought I knew what was happening another twist would happen and I'd be completely wrong. The story is anything but predictable.
The book will capture you and pull you straight in with all the drama, intrigue, sexy ness, mystery and love.
And then there's the ending!!!!!!! All I can say WTF!!! Bring on book 2.
Absolute work of genius. Best book ever by S R Grey. Amazing.
I need book 2 NOW

If your looking for a great new book, this is the one to read!! S.R. had me hooked! This was a wonderful love story, with some mystery and intrigue as well as one sexy alpha lead.

Essa, a sweet, almost innocent, college junior has been trying to get out from under her parents thumbs. She just wants to be able to make her own decisions. Haven is Essa's best friend, she is everything Essa wants to be, she's beautiful, yet outgoing and caring. Haven is like the sister Essa never had.

It's the last day of finals and Summer will be in full swing soon. Haven has invited Essa to come to New York City with her. Essa really wants to, and not just to get out of small town Pennsylvania, but to finally, after more than 2 years, meet Haven's sexy older brother Farren. (MMMM)

Farren's work schedule has always kept him too busy, or out of town, for Essa to have ever met him, but she has had an eyeful through Haven's photos. And he's just the sexiest man Essa has ever seen, he is her every fantasy. Tall, broad, chiseled and so protective of his little sister, with intriguing, vivid green eyes.

Haven has convinced Essa to let lose and go out drinking and dancing. Essa's not much of a drinker but, hey, it's a celebration, finals are done.

What could possibly go wrong??

Essa wakes after an interesting night out, not sure but something is off... Haven is gone! Kidnapped!! Why??

This is the beginning of an all new Essa. Her submissive, go with the flow personality is not helping find her friend at all. Enter, Fallen. He's come to find out what happen the night Haven was taken. And we learn just what kind of man Farren is.

Essa and Farren set out to find Haven. This is Essa's inevitable detour. Where will it take her? What has destiny or fate got in store for her?

I loved the connection Essa has with Haven and how the strong bond and love they have gets Essa to come out of her comfort zone and push to find her friend.

Farren takes notice of sweet Essa. And soon he's enraptured by the sweet yet strong girl that is Essa. As they spend day in and day out with each other their attraction becomes clear.

But what kind of man is Farren? What are his intentions?

I could not put this book down, I had to see where these two would go next. Would Essa finally tell Ferran how she feels? How is he going to react? What happens after they find Haven? There are a few twist and turns and we don't really know Farren's true intentions for some time. The secrets he's kept all come out in the end.

I enjoyed seeing Essa and Farren's relationship grow and how sweet and fierce Farren could be. This is not a standalone but there is almost an HEA. I loved the way book 1 ended and I can't wait for book 2!!!

Inevitable Detour is a very refreshing read that will make your head spin and your heart break.

It is full of surprises, suspense and mystery!

What surprised me was the ‘philosophical’ aspect of it. Our girl, Essa, changed throughout the book or rather, she became who she always was. She found the strength and courage to do what she wanted no matter the consequences. This inevitable detour gave that to her. However, the author’s approach to this matter was really fascinating. Small details, like Essa sitting outside a classroom and hearing what she somewhat needed to hear, and the Essa’s constantly evolving thinking process were absolutely fascinating to me. It was quite special!

I also loved the way Essa and Farren’s relationship was created. Slowly. Through respect. With patience. With longing. It seemed like they instantly hit it off, but that was through small actions, some stares. And of course, the interesting and gradual get-to-really-know-you talk they had in the car. They discovered each other first and then they progressed to the next stage. I also loved the lack of labels in their relationships, ‘one night stand’ ‘relationship’ ‘strings’ etc. They just went with it. They followed their hearts and let their minds take second place.

The way the mystery was presented was also very good. I found that the author’s approaches are very special and I LOVED that! Nothing was too obvious and nothing was clear. The story had some twists and a really nice highlight towards the end.

However, there were some points where I was left little bewildered, because I felt some really bad and really significant events didn’t have the attention they deserved. This event was lacking the heavy pressure I think it should have and thus lacking the appropriate reaction from one specific character. However, I believe this was the case, because the book concentrated solely on Essa. I just feel it should have happened differently, but that doesn’t mean anything more than that. The book is really good and nothing can change that.

In conclusion, the book is really good and I enjoyed it. I strongly recommend it, as it feels like fresh air. It’s different, well written and captivating!

So, 4 Gorgeous Stars go to Inevitable Detour!

PS
I can’t wait for the second book!!!!!

“What it all comes down to, is that every person’s life is destined for a certain path. We may not realize it, especially when it’s happening, but we will end up where we’re supposed to be”

Essalin Brant is finishing her college semester up before summer break. Essalin has been asked to join her best friend Haven in New York for the summer. Haven has a very hot, wealthy and mysterious brother she will be staying with. Essalin has always had a crush on her brother although she has never met him in person. Going to New York is not going to be easy for Essalin because of her of parents. They are so strict and they pay for her apartment and education and expect her to enroll in summer classes to finish her Degree early.

Essalin and Haven decide to have a night of celebration since it’s the end of the semester. While on their night out they meet two handsome guys that they chat and have drinks with. The next morning Essalin wakes up in her apartment and has vivid memories how she got there. Feeling off she starts to search her and Haven’s apartment then realizes Haven is missing! After going to authorities and getting no help she turns to Farren Shaw. Haven’s brother.
Essalin joins Farren on a road trip to find Haven and the sparks start to fly between these two! You take a journey through this story of real life stuff that happens every day. Sadly you see what Haven endures. Once you read it you will understand. The angst and suspense to the story is great! When you think you got it figured it out, BAM! The truth is exposed. I was surprised because I was thinking something completely different. Lol!

Not only is there suspense, twists and turns but there is a Hot and Heavy Love story. Farren the mystery, cocky, Alpha male is AMAZING!! I loved him from the start! Essalin I loved her character too. For her to be younger she was so mature and strong. As for the other characters I can’t wait to see how their stories unfold. I was so pulled into the story and loved every minute of it!
I can’t wait for the second Book! Mrs. Grey phenomenal job!

S.R. Grey never ceases to amaze me when it comes to storytelling. The details in which she writes captures you from page one. She didn't disappoint with Inevitable Detour! From the moment I began reading I knew I was in for a ride. Her way of incorporating suspense and romance into one story is amazing and not only keeps you turning the pages but also has you saying "WHAT????" throughout her story. That's a good thing as she keeps you riveted by totally catching you off guard. I love that!

Essa's life is a typical college girl who has never traveled. Her life has been lived in PA and she doesn't step out of that box....ever. Mundane and boring, her life changes when Farren Shaw steps into it. Her friend Haven's older brother, Farren is sure of himself and exudes a confidence bordering on arrogant. That doesn't stop Essa from daydreaming about him. Totally out of her realm, Essa is surprised when Farren asks for her help to find Haven who has gone missing.

Thus begins the journey into the Inevitable Detour.....S.R. Grey takes you into the story as if you are right there along with the characters. The twists and turns of her stories always have me on edge, yelling at the book and shaking my head wondering where that came from! This story is no different. Farren is a mystery as much as he is gorgeous which intrigues Essa (and me!) even more. What is it he is hiding and what exactly does he do? Where is Haven and what happened to her?

S.R. Grey hits another home run with this story! It's a true accomplishment when you can write a story with all the avenues that she does. I love a good romance but the mystery with the romance is a trait that this writer catches me with every time. When an author can get me to talk/yell at the characters in the book.....then you know you are doing something right. S.R. Grey does that. Can't wait for the continuation of this story!

S. R. Grey is a sneaky author. I found that this story was one surprise after another. I will be honest like I always am and say that I wasn’t always happy with Ms. Grey.

No not at all. But I can say that she kept me flipping pages and gripping my kindle. I was one minute smiling at the romance, the next fanning myself over the sizzling heat.
Ok so that shower scene? Yea!

Then the mystery oh crap like I’m sitting there at points really and totally baffled at where this is going but I had to know what and who and when and why and it was killing me! I loved how this sweet romance slowly simmered until it was a rolling boil.

Farren and Essa were amazing together and even when I wanted to scream at him to freaking TALK ..he was still this sexy mystery and the silent strong sexy types always keep me on my toes.
This is an action packed suspense filled erotic at times journey that will keep you guessing, sweating and at times screaming. Like I did at the end.

Picture this...

You are in college one year away from graduating with a degree in accounting. Your parents decided this was the best course of study for you. You are a great student and maintain a 4.0 GPA. You are the perfect daughter always following whatever dictates your parents issue. If your life is so perfect... why do you feel so depressed? Is it because of the choices you've made? Is it Fate? Is it Destiny?

"Things happen in our lives that are predetermined, whether we realize it or not. Often it's a series of small events that slowly and methodically lead us to where we're supposed to be. But sometimes it's a big, cataclysmic event that changes the course of everything. Even so, you may not realize your life is changing at the time. Something may happen to someone you know, perhaps someone close to you. Their 'something' ends up affecting you. Your life is now altered; you're set on a different path."

"Think of this path as an inevitable detour of sorts."

Essa's inevitable detour comes when she decides to help find her roommate. Haven has disappeared and Essa knows it's not possible she left of her own volition. Haven's brother Farren is just the perfect partner to help her uncover what really happened. Besides, he is just gorgeous and the object of Essa's crush.

If you have read books by S.R. Grey before, you know this is her signature gift. She can weave a story full of suspense an mystery while telling you the most seductive love story ever. The plot twists in this book will surprise you. I was screaming and cheering at this book... I apologized to my neighbors.

This is a standalone book with the promise at the end for more. WOOHOO!

Need a novel with an Alpha man then Inevitable Detour is a must read.

Essa and Haven decide to go out dancing to have some fun because they were finished with final exams and the start of summer. They see two older attractive men and decide to go chat them up. That was the beginning of their troubles.

Haven goes missing and Essa wants to know what has happened to her best friend. Farren, who is Haven's brother, finds out about his sister's kidnapping and shows up at the girls apartment. Essa is surprised to find Farren in their apartment because of his mysterious job that takes him out of the country often.

Essa has admired Farren and has considered him hot since she has been friends with his sister but she had never met him until now. He brings her on his search to locate his sister.

As they drive across the country, Essa and Farren follow some leads based on credit card purchases on Haven's cards. They do not locate her at any of the locations but meet up with a business associate of Farren's. Rick, Farren's associate, gets some intel about Havens location so he goes alone ahead of them to get situated and to have their extraction team in place.

Essa and Farren get to know each other as they drive across country and while laying low checking out any leads into Haven's where abouts. She starts falling for him but knows there are no promises that if they get together that they will stay together once this journey is finished.

I recommend you read this book to find out what Farren is involved in and who the major players are and why they kidnapped Haven. Find out how Essa and Farren's relationship develops or not. I can't wait until the next book is released to continue their stories.

There was quite a bit that attracted me to this book. I love best friend's older brother romances. I was also intrigued by the disappearance aspect. What I read didn't disappoint. The story was full of twists and turns and lots of romance.

I guess I wasn't expecting the seriousness of the story material. I saw the warning given in the blurb and thought I was prepared. I've read quite a few books in this vein recently and they were treated with a certain gravitas. This story didn't have that same feeling. It wasn't taken lightly, but I felt sort of like I was viewing the situation from afar. I guess that had to do with the fact it was told from Essa's point of view. She was there, but not really where all the action was going on. There were some really tense moments in the book that had me on the edge of my seat. There were others where I was fanning myself from the heat Essa and Farren gave off each other. I'm glad Essa found herself and her voice, and broke out of what she considered to be her boring life. I'm guessing she wasn't hoping for adventure afterwards!

It felt like I read the book very quickly from start to end and while the book does end on sort of a cliffhanger, I wasn't upset about it. I'm looking forward to learning more about Farren and seeing how he and Essa are doing. I'm guessing Haven's story will be darker because she went through so much. In fact I'm hoping S.R. Grey will write a story for her. This is my first book by her and I look forward to reading more in the future.

Just wow! I sat down to start reading this book and the next thing I knew I had finished it! Grey has created a stunningly gorgeous alpha male in Farren Shaw. Strong, sexy, dangerous, and in control I caught myself more than once holding my breath when he was taking command of a situation.
And I definitely didn't mind one bit when things got hot and heavy with Farren around. It was a little repetitive in the beginning but it soon gave way to an exciting and dangerous cross country search for Farren's sister Haven who was kidnapped by some very evil people. With the help of Essa his sisters best friend; Farren will do anything to save her. And it doesn't take long for Essa to get under his skin in the best possible way melting away some of his cold exterior to get to the amazing man underneath. Then throw in the surprise twists at the end and I was done for! Grey has once again blown me away.
Farren Shaw is definitely on my list of favorite book boyfriends and in my opinion you should absolutely read Inevitable Detour to meet him for yourself!

Oh my gosh, this book had me on pins and needles. I'm still reeling from the ending. Be warned...this book will capture your full attention, so don't plan on doing anything else until you finish reading it. Inevitable Detour is part 1, so when you get finally get to the epilogue, if you are like me, you will be screaming at your kindle. S.R. Grey is a genius....pure and simple. I went through the whole book, never knowing exactly if the some of the characters, were good guys or were they the bad ones. You know how when you read a book or watch a movie, and you tell yourself you exactly what's going to happen....well, it won't happen with the book. Inevitable Detour is anything but predictable. This book has it all! Suspense, intrigue, human trafficking, hot sex, and of course love. Inevitable Detour is a must have book that I highly recommend. Although, I have no idea what I'm going to do now, I can't stop thinking about the ending....I think I might go crazy before Inevitable Circumstances comes out in 2015.
