Report on the Sioux Outbreak of 1890

Rate this book
In 1890, the US government feared an imminent Indian uprising among the displaced Sioux people. General Nelson A. Miles reported from the field summarizing the issue at hand. The government was failing to fulfill the terms of the treaty they had coerced the Indians into signing, and as a result the people were starving. With this earnest message, Miles implores Congress to make good on their promise, thus preventing the outbreak.

This is an except from a report made by General Miles on the causes of the Sioux and Cheyenne uprisings. Bottom line... the government (read as politicians) failed to keep its treaty obligations and a lot of people died. People aren't just going to sit and starve to death simply because the government can't seem to get around to keeping its promises to them... especially after they were cheated out of their land, which undoubtedly happened. Granted, they didn't have that much of a choice, but the government did promise and then failed to keep that promise.

I might listen to this audiobook again for reference.
