this was my first classic regency in so long and boy did it take me back!

it had all of the hallmark regency romance tropes — mean destitute family, wed out of scandal, eloping to scotland, unfamiliar new country estate, one friendly maid, naïve sister-in-law and evil mother-in-law, coaching inns, duels, seduction of the naïve sister.

and you know what? it was still good.

i really enjoyed anna and will as individuals as well as a couple — though my biggest gripe was that we hardly got to see them together, especially together and HAPPY. literally every single one of their problems would have been solved if they had communicated but i feel like their lack of communication actually made sense in this instance.

poor anna was just so sad all the time which made me :( i’m glad she got her happy ending but she just suffered so much throughout the novel and put up with way too much. i was internally cheering when she stood up to that demon spawn of a mother-in-law.

will is the type of hero i prefer — a true to his word, sincere gentleman — but i wanted him to actually act on his feelings for anna. but even though anna and will reminded distant during the beginning of their marriage, i liked how his love for her was still visible through all the acts of service he did for her. the pony, standing up to his mother, letting the maid stay on, etc…

okay let me get started on the part that had me fuming… literally every single person excluding anna, will, a few side characters, and ellen for like two seconds before she became annoying and selfish, was literally HORRIBLE.

the mother-in-law needs to die, the servants need to die, the dormans need to die, and ellen just stupid as heck 😭😭

like omg y’all are really peeing me off.

AND WHY DID THE DORMANS AND THE MOTHER-IN-LAW GET OFF SCOT FREE??? LIKE THEY DID NOT DESERVE THEIR HUNKY DORY HAPPY ENDING LIKE THOSE PEOPLE WERE EVILLLLL.

and please don’t tell me there’s an implication of a possible future romance between ellen and lucius… DIE DIE DIE. he should have died brah, i don’t care, him and his whole family were weird as heck.

overall i enjoyed this book, i thought it was some good ole’ regency fun and i’ll probably read more books by this author.

anyways #teamanna!

With its accurately described details of the Regency period plus having individuals portrayed with realistic behavior, COMPROMISED WITH HER FORBIDDEN VISCOUNT is continuously enthralling. Diane Gaston also repeatedly interweaves history that occurred in this era into the storyline, which makes situations come across as even more believable. How people reacted to gossip was definitely a big part of this society, and the author certainly brought this into how the main couple’s lives played out time and again. I became caught up in what would happen to many of the characters in the story, and Ms. Gaston did not disappoint in how uncertain circumstances were ultimately resolved.

When Viscount Neal Willburgh, who is known as Will, went to Vauxhall Gardens with some other men, he was not really interested in attending any of the festivities taking place during a masquerade. Deciding to go for a walk around the grounds, he comes upon a woman in need of immediate assistance and offers his aid. Unfortunately, helping her results in them making the decision to wed shortly thereafter because of mistaken assumptions. The situation becomes even worse when the female turns out to be Anna Edgerton, as their two families have been clashing for generations. Although there is unspoken attraction between Will and Anna, almost all their relatives seem to want their relationship to come to an end. Any upcoming choices made will greatly affect the futures of Will and Anna, and surprising revelations may also impact what happens to them.

Whether a scene was packed with emotional upheaval, of which there were quite a few, or if a moment had turned romantic, I was always kept engrossed in what direction the relationship of Anna and Will would take. These two had much to overcome if they would ever be truly happy with one another, and Ms. Gaston tossed one trial after another into the lives of this couple. Greed, deceit, and more than one lie had me wondering how anyone could make a marriage work, and I fully enjoyed seeing how these individuals would react to various happenings that were often unanticipated. There were numerous times when I just could not stop reading, as what would occur next had to be discovered.

Diane Gaston takes back into the past with her newest romance. Viscount Willburgh sees a woman being forced away and rescues her. Little does he realize that that woman, Anna Edgerton, is a member of the family with whom they have been feuding for some time. Now compromised, the two have no choice but to marry and prevent a scandal. On their way to Gretna Green, close confines find the two becoming closer. But when they return, their feuding families try to tear them apart. Is their new found love enough?

Prepared to be transported into the past with Compromised with Her Forbidden Viscount. Both their families have been feuding since a duel resulted in loss of life. In addition, there is some land that has been disputed. Neither family is happy about the marriage, causing Anna and Will to doubt themselves and their love. There is much more to the story than can be told here. You will need to read and enjoy traveling into the past to learn what happens. Suffice it to say that you will not be disappointed.

Having enjoyed many of Diane Gaston‘s titles, this was such a disappointment. The bones of the story were there but they remain disassembled for the entire narrative. It was a taffy pull that went on way too long. The angst of miscommunication was ever present in the most sophomoric delivery. It was embarrassing, and I am embarrassed for her

I’ve had a day to digest this in several stomachs like a cow, out in a pasture. And the one thing that came to my mind was, what is up with those Highland ponies? Did Gaston have to dig so deep? Was she reaching for pathos? The cud is chewed. She has just written too many books. Is she phoning it in? Is she using AI? Her readers want to know.

If I am being unfair you should read my reviews of the many books of hers that I have read. I am just terribly disappointed

The pivotal point of this plot was at the Armstrong Crown in the Scottish town where they were married in the tap room and he didn’t realize what was going on. That was a good scene. The reproach between the families, a large reach, and Lucius becoming a decent human being, and even larger reach. Diane Gaston has to take a vacation

While fighting off the unwelcome advances of a man in Vauxhall Gardens, Anna Dorman finds her aggressor summarily dispatched by another gentleman, who turns out to be Viscount Willburgh. When two are later caught in what looks like a compromising situation by Anna’s relatives, they disown her on the spot. With nowhere to go and no funds of her own, Anna is forced to accept Will’s offer to stay at his London townhouse until matters are sorted out. The problem is that can Anna now trust Will, whose family she holds responsible for the destroying her own family, with her own future? With a nod to Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, Gaston delivers superbly crafted Regency historical that once again rewards readers with its deftly nuanced characters, adeptly integrated historical details, and abundance of sizzling sexual chemistry.
