Quincy Harker needs a vacation, but there's no peace to be found in the usually sleepy seaside resort of North Carolina's Outer Banks. No, there's a serial killer stalking the streets of Manteo, and there's even more to the crimes than usual. Add in a heavily warded cemetery with hints of magic long thought to have vanished from the earth, a mystery centuries in the making, and a string of horrifyingly realistic nightmares plaguing Rebecca Flynn, Harker's fiancée, and our boy isn't getting any rest or relaxation. But he is getting the one thing he's really, really good at handling—a fight.
Quincy Harker investigates modern murders and the oldest mystery in United States history all at the same time as he tried to figure out who's killing tourists in Manteo while also investigating the truth behind the Lost Colony in Lost, the ninth book in the Quincy Harker, Demon Hunter series of award-winning dark urban fantasy novels.
John G. Hartness is a teller of tales, a righter of wrong, defender of ladies’ virtues, and some people call him Maurice, for he speaks of the pompatus of love.
He is also the award-winning author of the urban fantasy series The Black Knight Chronicles (Bell Bridge Books), the Bubba the Monster Hunter comedic horror series, the Quincy Harker, Demon Hunter dark fantasy series, and many other projects.
In 2016, John teamed up with a pair of other publishing industry ne’er-do-wells and founded Falstaff Books, a small press dedicated to publishing the best of genre fictions “misfit toys.” In his copious free time John enjoys long walks on the beach, rescuing kittens from trees and playing Magic: the Gathering.

Great to read the return of Quincy and his team. Some great moments in this book that were unexpected. Unlike some other reviews in here. I did not notice any wokeness or political leanings in here. Maybe as I’m not American but have not noticed any deviation in the way he writes these books an I have read all bubba books as well as Quincy. Story flowed great with lots of interesting characters as ever.
Harker is back! There has been a time jump since the crossover with Bubba. Several months since all of the heartbreak. Those last books (which were Bubba ones) were hard to read. Even though it has been two years I still have tears over what happened. Remembering how bad it was had me leery of this book. So much was revealed that left Quincy and his crew irrevocably changed that you had to wonder how could they survive. With humor. That is how. And a cat! Do not go crazy trying to remember where the cat came from. He was introduced in the anthology Instinct: An Animal Rescuers Anthology. While this might be considered a “filler” book, it was a necessary breather. There were still VERY important outcomes that will affect the books going forward. This is not to be missed.
This is a perfect example of a writer that can actually write good books but totally ruins them by pushing woke bullshit down the readers throat.
Several books in this series have been four star ones but several books have also been marred by the author sprinkling woke nonsense around.
This book is pretty much the same but worse. I like the characters and I like the story but the author is really going overboard with pushing woke crap down peoples throats.
Every second or third person is gay or lesbian and a point is made of it. Illegal immigrants gets in there for no reason whatsoever. Of course the author calls them “undocumented” instead of using the correct term illegal. Musk and Twitter gets a dose of the authors bullshit and of course “everyone is a Taylor Swift fan”. Seriously?
I have friends that are gay, lesbian and bisexual. But they don’t push their way they live in my face and I don’t push my way of life in theirs. I have a black girlfriend who is also a (moderate) muselman. She has her faith and I have mine. And yes, she presented herself to me as a muselman, not a muslim although she uses that word as well. Unlike what the woke SJW’s tries to peddle muselman is not an insult.
I have no problem with people living their lives anyway they want. I don’t have a problem with characters in books or movies being gay, lesbian, black or white at least not if it is pertinent to the story unlike black Cleopatras (when the Egyptian government feels they have to step in it should be a clue that Hollywood’s wokeism has gone way too far) or Viking chiefs (I am Scandinavian so I find that somewhat offensive actually). I have a problem getting agendas and shit pushed down my throat when I’m reading or watching things for entertainment.
The only reason I’m not giving this book a one star rating, although it is close, is that it is really a good story and good main protagonists. Really a shame because it is a waste of the authors talent. But, go woke go broke. I’ll spend my money on authors that does not shove woke crap down my throat.
Woke Wizard Vs Demon: A fun read and not intellectually challenging. An airport read, if you will. I’ve read many of Mr. Hartness’s books but frankly no more. In this book he carries own a monologue of wokeness that is nauseating to say the least. First, of course, White males are evil, especially Southern white males who are racist and homophobes. Women, minorities and LGBT+ communities are victims of white southern males and are unsung heroes. He delights in punching fat, white, rednecks (I mean, who doesn’t?). It’s always interesting that those who preach for tolerance rage hatred and bigotry towards white, males, and Christians. Tolerance ends at the rainbow and violence, which whites are accused of, is often inflicted. So if you are immune to the wokeness miasma or are too indoctrinated to know differently, aka, stupid, then this book is for you. Otherwise there are much better authors in this genre who stick to story and keep their personal politics and biases out.
Quincy Harker - Demon hunter extraordinaire somehow ends up vacationing in Roanoke - as in the original one 400 years ago. Because gates of Hell open an demons control people. Well, no, greed and corruption get the better of people and demons are just good at sealing the deal. Everyone is here again, all trying to find justice and really evil bad guys in small rednecked town. Lots of cliches but hysterical jokes, innuendoes, myths and stereotypes. I have enjoyed every story although this one felt more like the Bubba series. Still Glory is my fav Angel I am very partial to Michael too. And Faustus is fantastic. And it felt like the first bar scene in StarWars - what an array of creatures. Enjoy the ride. I can still feel the cat purring too.
If you are a fan of Quincy Harker, you MUST read this. If you've never read any Quincy Harker, this is a great jumping in point. John Hartness is a master at his craft. He is able to pull from history, religion, mythology, and many literary areas to create vibrant settings and characters that are so believable you will think you actually know them. The humor and humanity woven in this book create a tapestry worthy of a museum.
In the words of the man himself, go out and buy his shit.
I needed that. Pure entertainment. An ending (somewhat) that didn't leave me in knots. Just Perfect. Love Quincy Harker and all his crazy extended group. This book actually this series has it all Uncle Luke aka Dracula, guardian angel, archangels, fallen angels including Lucifer, demons, witches, wizards, fae, horseman and so much more. This series makes me laugh and cry with lots of action and it's never, ever boring. I just wish he could write faster because I need more.
Another great story by Mr Hartness. As usual I read it in one sitting. The usual characters, and an exciting story line. You have a investment in the characters which makes the story more interesting. My advice? Start with book one of the series and keep going. Each one builds up their weird world, and gets to introducing the characters so they are familiar and you care what happens to them. Thanks, Mr Hartness, please keep up the wonderful work.
With the amount of time I've spent over the last few months reading all of Quincy Harker and Bubba The Monster Hunter I've got to say the last book was somewhat of a disappointment.
The huge cliffhanger from Comes A Reckoning is nearly completely ignored for Rebecca and Quincy to have a vacation and another story unfold. While that's not a bad thing I just feel a bit of book blue balls as the story I was hoping for wasn't delivered on at all.
Another absolute fun ride with Quincy Harker and his rag tag team ! These books always take me from the first page and I cannot put it down ! Please keep these books coming and let the adventures get more crazy and wild ! If you have read any other books from this series you will not be disappointed !
Lost, book nine in John G Hartness's Quincy Harker series is a fun read. Hartness is good at giving his character, Harker, grief and putting him through hell. Literally.
Excellent and another Great Read. I was hooked from the beginning. I can't wait to see what Hacker and Company get into next. I can't wait to see the wedding photos.
Quincy and Becks are on a well earned vacation, when a murder draws them into a strange case, with violent murders, demons and a centuries old mystery.
