Tenna Massey's past is about to catch up with her. For eighteen years she’s carefully crafted a normal life. When an assassination attempt shatters that illusion, she’s forced to accept her true identity. As the prophesied demon huntress, she may be the only one powerful enough to stop a recent string of murders.
Tenna has two choices--kill or be killed. She must conjure the courage to kill someone she’s loved for so long to save thousands of innocent humans.
Will Tenna choose to embrace her fate as The Huntress or condemn humanity to an eternity of Hell on Earth?
Nope. Not for me. Have never read this author, don't own any of her books and after seeing her racist comments on her FB page and on Twitter today, I have no desire to ever read anything by her. May she and her hatred be happy together.
She Who Hunts by C.L. Parks (Goodreads Author) (Synopsis from Goodreads)
"Tenna Massey’s husband is possessed, and may be the one responsible for the string of murders in her community. Only a demon Hunter can stop him, and unfortunately for Tenna, she comes from a long line of them, a legacy she ran away from years ago.
If Tenna chooses to become the Hunter she was destined to be, it will mean stepping back into the world she thought she'd left behind for good. Worse, it will mean killing the man she's loved for so long. But if she doesn't, the murders won't stop.
The longer she puts off her decision, the more innocent lives are in danger, and the more Tenna realizes she can't run forever"
I came across "She Who Hunts" for the first time by accident. I was traveling around some of my favorite blogs and just got sidetracked and ended up at a post about it that also happened to have a giveaway. I remember my comment, as the question posed was very thought provoking and along the lines of could you kill someone you love to free their soul from demon possession? This kind of hit me upside the head and stayed with me and I ruminated about it all night LOL! Well the next morning I opened my mail telling me I had received a gift of "She Who Hunts" from the author, C.L. Parks.
I know that there are lots of reviews out there that say a book grabbed them from the very beginning and I just have to borrow that statement and say "She Who Hunts" GRABBED me from the very beginning! It starts off with a courtroom scene and shootout and like an onion blossom the layers of the story just keep peeling away and does not stop going until the very end. There is a new take on demon possession and demons fighters, emotionally wrenching scenes regarding Tenna's life and growing up, love, loss, and reunions, along with a few chuckles along the way. It should be noted that this is definitely an adult read as there is a beautifully written steamy scene in the mix. Overall this is a very well written read with enjoyable characters that I loved and hated, as well as very believable world building. The story ends well with a hint of a promise for room for more from Tenna and Jason, as well as the rest of the gang. I do not know if this is meant to be a continuing series, but I certainly hope there is more to come, as I will be first in line to pick up the next installment.
Tenna Massey is a Demon Hunter. In fact she's the fulfillment of a prophesy and is know among the Family as the Dark Slayer. Her mother and father were Hunters and were killed when she was a young child. Instead of the Family taking her in to care for her she was let go into the foster care system. She hasn't forgiven them. Now she's an adult and her husband is possessed by a Demon and trying his best to kill her. Will she fulfill the prophesy and be the Dark Slayer or will she run and hide?
I really liked the story line of this book and am anxious to learn more about the back story. More details about Tenna's mom and dad, more about the Family, the prophesy, and what came before. Or did I miss a previous book?
A couple of things bothered me in the book. At the beginning Tenna speaks of her dad's best friend who should have raised her and calls him Virgil. Later in the book his name is Nigel? or is Nigel someone else entirely and we just don't hear anymore about Virgil? Another thing that got under my skin was the excessive use of 'giggle'. Someone was always giggling. Tenna, Claire, Jason and Russell the big bad men were giggling. Too much. I was also aggravated by the description of everyone who was talking on the phone with Tenna moving the phone. Enough of this description. Maybe a little more editing would have been welcomed. Am I being too picky? I don't know the answer, but little things like that bother me when I'm reading and make me less likely to read another book by the author.
I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review and as part of a blog tour. The fact that this book is based on demon hunting was the thing that first drew me to it, I love supernatural so the word "Hunters" has a certain pull for me. I enjoyed the differences in the Deomons and Hunters in this book as opossed to other books and shows I have watched/read, especially the blessed sword disguised as a tattoo, giving easy access to it without having to carry it around all the time and getting strange looks for everyone (or arrested lol). I did not really like the no female hunters thing it was sexest and did not make a lot of sense what happens to all the girls born to hunters, they just make more hunters and thats it, well thank goodness for Tenna she is breaking the mold like her mother, being the only female hunter like her mother...or is she? Not only were there hunters which excited me but then along comes Jason, first I thought he was just a huge sexy hunter sent to protect Tenna form the evil demon out for her death, but he was so much more than that and I wont spoil his secret but I will say it made me love him and this book so much more, and while we are talking about Jason I have to mention the intensly sexy love scene filled with primal instict and passion it is definatly worth a mention. The roller coaster of emotions Tenna was put through in a short amount of time was a very insane ride, just when I thought she was finding her place the evil haunting her life would strike again, it was heartbreaking to watch but I liked how she handeled herself, yes she iced her heart for protection but not forever she was aware of the hardening and she kept it in check as best she could, I also think having Russell back in her life and Jason added to it, helped keep her grounded. This was a fun, quick read but I felt like the action in some scenes was rushed and my copy had all the L's in double L words missing, but if you take those things out it was great and I am glad I read it and I hope to read more soon.
I received this book at no cost to read and give an review, which I did in SSLY Blog in May but I forgot to post it here.
Reading this book was a treat. I just wanted to put that out there up front. The story line, a kickass female huntress, is not new but the fact that she hunts and kills demons . . . also not too new. What is enchanting is the world C L Parks builds around her. It is a little different in that she is feared by both her own and the demons, not for who she is right then but because of the foreseen and foretold future she is destined for.
Demons, again not new but not used in the way C L Parks does in this book, slimy evil bastards. Her world building takes you by surprise and you continue on reading. Awesome characters, some who died, leaving wanting to know more about them. I am imagining that this author will find ways to build the past as she is building the future.
I don't know in this instance if the books is a series, but it reads like one. It reads like one I will be reading as much of as I can get. The sex is not over the top, but is one chapter. Number 14. Quit reading this now, SPOILER below. . .
The interaction between Jason and Tenna, sensual. It couldn't be any other way given Tenna's gifts and Jason's nature. Stacy and Russel . . . fireworks. . . next book? And what about the hunters in different regions of the country. I love these kinds of books.
She Who Hunts is the story of a young woman who finds her husband possessed by a demon looking to kill her. Tenna's family has a long history of being demon hunters, but she walked away from that lifestyle following the tragic death of her parents. There is also a pesky prophecy that has the potential to be about her which seems to now be making her a target for all kinds of demons. Luckily the local hunters are stepping in to help protect her while she figures out what to do.
The book has a romance angle to it. Temma is saved by a handsome demon hunter who is willing to do whatever he can to keep her safe and believes they are destined to be together because of the prophecy. Temma is conflicted because even though her husband is lost to her forever the demon still has his body active on the mortal plane and she truly did love him.
The action balanced out pretty well with the romantic angle keeping the story from dragging. The background of Temma made for an intriguing read as it was revealed over the course of the book. This book is a good fit for a wide variety of readers. I'll keep an eye out for more from this author.
I love paranormal books, I love the excitement of reading in that genre. This book is by far my favorite paranormal book!! The author is a genius. The details and descriptions were so interesting and intriguing. What C.L. does in this book is grip the reader and holds on. I couldn’t put this book down. I had to know what happened next.
The characters in this book were lovable and very believable. Tenna is a strong character and also my favorite!! Tenna, finds out her soon to be ex-husband is a demon!! WHAT WAIT? Jason steps in to save her, I love him and Claire. Both are funny. After the courtroom scene the book gets more and more interesting. The sexual tension was WOW!! I don’t want to give a lot away, but you have to read to find out what Tenna does. Does she embrace her fate or does she ignore it??
Thank you C.L. for allowing me to read this book and thank you for writing it. I hope there is a book to, because I need another dose of Tenna, Russell, Jason and Claire. LOL. If you love supernatural books, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!!!
I won this book in a giveaway and I am extremely glad I won! I didnt know what to expect from this book but it blew me away. This book is amazing! This book grabs you by the throat from the opening pages and keeps you captivated until you've reached the thrilling, satisfying conclusion. The novel moves at breakneck speed and the writing is smooth and clean. The first-person narrative was an excellent choice to tell Tenna's story. I hope this book is the first in a series, because I would love to return to this world again. I also look forward to reading more work from this author. If you haven't yet read SHE WHO HUNTS, do yourself a favor and get a copy now. It's a fascinating, highly-imaginative ride. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
10*s..What an awesome read!! Poor Claire has had a rough life but she is full of spunk, and attitude and thats what kept my attention in this book. But of course like most stories, we are left hanging and I am EXTREMELY excited and impatiently waiting and wanting MORE!! I also wanted to add that when I read the description on smashwords.com I knew that I had to have this book!! An awesome action packed story about a demon hunter and a MUST read!! Thank you, CL Parks for this fabulous read!!
The attention getter from smashwords.com: "My name is Tenalucci. I'm here to send you back to Hell."
Hunters of demons were always male until Tenna's mother. Tenna is the legendary Huntress from a prophecy. Her parents are killed in front of her when she is 6 years old and she is sent to live with humans. Fans of Supernatural will probably enjoy this book. I thought the pacing was a little off. The writing is pretty good but I felt it could use some more polish to be perfect. The story was interesting and it held my attention. I liked Tenna. There seemed to be a lot of explanation and exposition in the writing which slowed down the flow for me. I needed more “show not tell”. 3 Stars.
OMG OMG OMG. Loved this book...ALOT. C.L. Parks I WANT MORE!!!! Dont mean to get all excited about it, but I enjoyed this book from the moment I opened it until I had to close it. Fantastically awesome!!! Easy to read, main characters are loveable and a bit sexy, loads of sex appeal, loads of action, awesomeness!!!!! So looking forward to the next installment!!! PLEASE??? Must read, Must read MUST READ!!!
Really great book. A few typos which is why I gave it four stars instead of five. But now I'm left with the question… when does the next book come out? (; I would definitely recommend this book to readers that like a strong female character, are getting SICK of love triangles (like me), love to read about the supernatural, and/or fans of Diana Rowland's demon series. *note: i recieved a free copy of this through First Reads(:
I haven't read a book that deals with demons and hell in a long time so it was sort of a nice change. The plot was original so there's a big thumbs up for that. Not everyone can do that nowadays. However, much of it could easily be anticipated and it didn't make me hold my breath like other books have. More could've been done to improve. Still, I enjoyed reading it though.
i loveeeeee this book. i love the characters tenna, jason, and russell. i couldnt put this book down and i can not wait for the second book. CL Parks is an amazing author :)
The BEST paranormal book I've read! Nothing compares to it! Tenna is kick-a** and her friends are hot! Sadness, excitement, sarcastic comments, and hot hot sexual tension! Amazing.
So I really loved the book. I could relate to the characters. Family struggles and demon hunting. A hot love interest too. Really people give the author a chance, read her book and think for yourself who cares what others say or what they think I understood about her from her Facebook page.
She Who Hunts is an action book about a young woman who was born a demon hunter, but after the death of her parents when she was six years old she was brought up away from the life she was born into. As she reached adulthood it was clear she couldn’t escape her destiny. The demons found her, even though she wasn’t prepared for them and the hunters who had abandoned her at six had no option but to train and protect her.
This story was okay but there were some things that really irritated me. I like description enough to allow me to picture the scene but I don’t like waffle and fillers about mundane things…………
Tenna shuffled out of the bedroom, closing the door behind her as quietly as she could, and made her way across the living room and into the kitchen. The coffee pot was calling her name. Correction it was screaming her name.
The pot had a little coffee left at the bottom from the day before; she poured it into the sink, ran water in the pot and swished it around, noting the time on the stove as she passed by………..
Jason kept the coffee in the freezer – good choice – and the filters above the refrigerator. She scooted the chair up to the fridge, opened the cabinet and had the filters in hand when ……..
Why on earth do I want to know where Jason keeps his coffee or how she washes the pot out? What do things like this bring to the story?? NOTHING! It doesn’t move it along it just increases word count and bores me into wanting to put the book down. On the whole the writing was okay, I just don’t like to be taken out of the story by things that are of no consequence, it slows the pace for me and makes me lose my rhythm.
This book kept me fascinated from page one all the way to the end. There is a thrilling action throughout She Who Hunts that will keep any reader on their toes, wildly flipping through the pages. The story is about Tenna, a young demon hunter, who is just coming into her real power. Author Christy Parks is so multi-faceted in her writing that she nearly covers all genres in this one book. Parks gives us horror and gore, family betrayal mixed with supernatural forces, love and romance, and the never ending evil versus purity.
Tenna's character is special. It's not just that she is a demon hunter and can read people's auras, it's the way that Parks develops Tenna's character and the growth we see in Tenna. Author Christy Parks attacks the masculine ideal with this short and tiny female heroin that can take down any man that stands in her way. I love the role reversal in this book's theme. Don't get me wrong, there are mighty and powerful male characters in She Who Hunts, but the female characters are so well-developed and well-rounded that it warms this reader's heart. I hope everyone enjoys this book as much as me because it is a treasure to experience.
I was given this book as a gift from the Author Christy Parks.
OK I have no idea why it took me so long to read this book other than I have a large TBR pile. I was so engrossed in the story about Tenna, Jason, Russell and all the other characters in this book I hated to have to put it down each night.
I don't know what I would have done if I found out my husband was possessed by a demon and that I was going to have to be The Chosen One to put it to death. She Who Hunts has a lot of excitement, Love, Romance, terror and a little sadness involved as well. Tenna is a woman who lost her husband to a demon possession and Jason has become her protector/love interest. I do not believe in giving away spoilers but I will say this, I can only imagine the bodies of Jason and Russell. The chemistry between the group is amazing and I can't wait to see what happens with Zaphyre in the next book and I love Tennas last line. I am Tenalucci, I am the Dark Slayer. I am here to send the Demons back to Hell. I can not wait for book two of this series,
This is my first real foray into the books and the mind of CL Parks and it was a good trip. The writing is crisp with solid descriptive prowess that leads the reader on a fun adventure through this story. I was impressed with the plotlines and the banter between characters as they learned about their feelings and wants.
In this story, the reader meets a confused and angry young lady, Tenna, who is a social outcast, mostly by her own choice. She witnessed some horrid murders when she was young. And she is a Demon Huntress. Her parents were powerful hunters themselves and she has a unique set of powers of her own.
This story moves along a fair pace with just enough downtime to fill the reader in about the lives of demon hunters, elders, and the political power struggles between hunters. Without giving away plot points, there is bit of sexual overtones and actions but they do add to the story.
Al in all, a very good start to this series and I shall attack the next episode with gusto
This was seriously amazing. I love demons and loved how they were a part of Tenna's life even though she never chose it. Tenna is an amazing character.. Her love, her life, her wanting to be an outcast because the other hunters didn't want her. I loved her "uncle and aunt". I felt so bad for them.. and yet not bad for them at the same time. This was a very fast paced story that kept me interested and I loved the writing so much. Tenna was wonderful. She had her own problems and had her own wants and love and wishes. I love that Tenna was a strong, confident hero who still had her own inner demons and inner problems that made her more human and not just superhero. This story and the writing made me very happy and kept me on the edge of my seat wanting to see where it was going and what would happen next. I cannot wait to see the next book and what happens in it.
I loved this book! The characters are all written in such a way that you almost believe they are real and not fictional. This book is suspenseful and full of surprises. Christy Parks is an excellent author and a kind, upstanding individual. Her books are worth reading!
A great read. It's not my usual choice. Something I sort of read on a whim. I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it. the author is descriptive and imaginative.... C.L. Parks has a big future in the literary world.
