Unlikely Protector is book one in the Sinister Alliances duet. A full-length novel with a no cheating and shocking cliffhanger ending. Mishka and Alina’s story continues in the second and final book, Unlikely Avenger. A brilliantly written story with complex characters and a twisty storyline driven by revenge that grabs your attention from the first chapter and keeps you hooked and riveted and on the edge of your seat with it's pulse-pounding suspense, nail-biting action, and mystery. A fast paced, dark, twisted, spicy and delicious read. An unputdownable and addicting read. It had the perfect amount of twists and turns. I instantaneously bonded with Miskha. YUM. It's sexy, it's spicy, dark, depraved and delicious. It's everything I never know that I needed. Intrigue, lust, and great characters what more could you ask for?

Mishka is a Russian Bratva mafia from the Nezhit and is seeking revenge against Sergio Sakharov another rival Bratva boss from the Sakharov Bratva for the death of his brother Sascha who was a member of the Nezhit Bratva that was annihilated by Sergio Sakharov over territory. Mishka had been plotting and planning for years on a way to get to the Sergio Sakharov, the Pakhan. He got his chance through Viktor Sakharov, is son after he came to his aid one night during a back-alley brawl when some guys tried to jump him. Viktor doesn't have a clue that Mishka real motive was to sneak behind enemy lines so that he could find a take Sergio down.
Viktor was so impressed by Mishka fighting skills that he took him home to his father to find him a job in the organization. However, Sergio is a man who doesn't easily trust and he certainly doesn't trust his son's judgment or his business decisions. He doesn't appreciate Viktor's party lifestyle or the chaos it introduces to their world. And he definitely doesn't see the value Mishka might offer to his operation. Mishka cannot tell him about his experiences in the Bratva because once he hears the name he would kill him right on the spot. Sergio asked his son what makes him think that he need another on his payroll when he already had him starting fights all over town, that was costing him an arm and a leg to keep him out of jail. His son begs to hire Mishka to watch his back and stop the trouble before it even get started. Sergio agreed to employ Mishka as his son's bodyguard until he can build up his trust around him. It was hard for Mishka to be in Sergio's presence without wanting to jump across the desk and choke the life out of him.
The Bratva princess Alina was attracted to Mishka from the moment she laid eyes on him. But Viktor warns Mishka away from his baby sister telling him that it's a sure way to get himself kill if he gets entangled with Alina. Sergio keeps a tight leash on Alina because he's trying to save her for a suitable husband that will help his organization but Alina has other plans that is different from Sergio's. Misha is attracted to Alina their chemistry is magnetic and the both can't stay away from each other regardless of the threats. Mishka saved Alina from being kidnapped and they confess their feelings for each other. Alina had been trying to get Mishka's attention for a long time and had been throwing herself at him since he got there.
Alina and Mishka gets into a secret romantic relationship. Alina would use her friends as alibi to seek out and be with Mishka. As their relationship process he torn between getting his revenge and being with Alina. Sergio changed Mishka job from watching his son's back to going with his other soldiers where they would beat up people, a job that Mishka hated because he felt like it was changing him. When Alina saw something bad that Mishka did she was torn and her feelings shifted. Alina got pregnant by Mishka and she knows that this would be dangerous for Mishka's life because she was supposed to someone who will strengthen the Sakharov Bratva. The story ended on a mind-blowing cliffhanger.

This was a very well written book that will capture and hold your attention. Mishka is strong, loyal, loving, and dangerously protective, but he is set on a course of revenge against the leader of a rival bratva, Sergio Sakharov, the man who murdered Mishka's brother Sascha and wiped out their bratva. Mishka gets his "in" with the Sakharovs when he comes to the aid of Viktor, Sergio's son, in a fight at a club and Viktor then brings him home to meet his father, explaining that Mishka has excellent fighting skills and they should offer him a position, which his father does. He is initially assigned as Viktor's bodyguard. While he is at their home, he is literally run into by Viktor's younger sister, Alina and the two of them have instant chemistry.
During his time as Viktor's bodyguard, Mishka proves himself to be invaluable to the Sakharov family, including saving Alina's life during a horrific ambush and getting her home safely. Unbeknownst to the family, and against Viktor's direct threat to stay away from his sister, he and Alina begin an intimate relationship, even though he tried so hard to resist their chemistry and connection. The two eventually give in and their passion explodes into an inferno. Sergio eventually assigns Mishka to one of his enforcers, Rasputin, which means that he will be able to see Alina a lot less. While he is working with Rasputin, Mishka is having a crisis of conscience because he is being forced to beat people badly, torture them, and even murder them and he hates feeling like he is becoming like the monsters who killed Sascha and it goes against his nature to be cruel, he doesn't want to, he is an Alphamallow with a great heart 💔 Alina uses her university classes and best friend as a cover to ditch her bodyguard and secretly meet up with Mishka. During this whole time, Mishka is really struggling with his need to carry out his revenge and not wanting to hurt Alina, who loves her family. He knows that he will lose the love of his life if he kills her family. Mishka is not the only one keeping secrets, Alina just found out that she is pregnant with his baby and doesn't know how to tell him. She is rightfully worried that her father and brother will kill Mishka for having touched her as she is supposed to find someone 'worthy' to marry and Mishka's background is very humble, having grown up with his brother on the streets.
Things get VERY complicated when Alina witnesses something that shocks her and breaks her trust in Mishka, causing her whole world to feel like it's falling apart. The struggle for Mishka between his love for Alina and desire for revenge is heart wrenching and so is watching Alina try to figure out how to live her own life while navigating family expectations and life as a Bratva princess.
The book ends on a big cliffhanger that will have you wanting to reach for book two immediately, which is exactly what I did. I definitely recommend this book, it is well done and has a fantastic story with great characters.

From the get go this book had me hooked. Each chapter I read, I had to read the next one. The story following Mishka's need for vengeance against the man who killed his brother Sascha, his name being Sergio Sakharov the head of a rival brotherhood. How he manages to get 'in favour' with Sergio by helping his son Viktor in a club brawl when he was about to get ambushed. Viktor takes him back to his father's home to ask whether he could take on Mishka who had excellent fighting skills. As he walked into Sergio's home' he met with Viktor's sister Alina and both were instantly taken with each other. Sergio is impressed and assigns him initially as bodyguard to Viktor.
Mishka during this time proves himself invaluable again for the family. But in that instance, lines were crossed and professional become personal with Alina unbeknown to the family, even though her was told expressly by Viktor to keep away from his sister. Because of his help Sergio assigns him to one of his enforcers Rasputin, which means he'll not see Alina very often. Alina uses her friend and 'study lessons' with her as a cover to meet up with Mishka when possible on the quiet.
During this time Mishka, who wants revenge for his brother, is falling for Alina blurring his need for vengeance against Sergio and Viktor as he doesn't want to hurt Alina. But things come to a head when Alina finds something out and she witnesses something that shocks her.
A brilliant story with a cliff hanger at the end making you wait for the next book to drop! And I can't wait. Love the pace of the book, the warring inside Mishka between vengeance and love. Alina wanting to make her own way in the world but tied to traditions of the family even though they have allowed her more freedom than most 'princesses'. Can they have it all?.....We'll just have to wait and see!

The start to the Sinister Alliances series so make sure to double check that you are buckled up, dangerous men, alpha’s personified, possessive, oh, gorgeous, brooding all the makings of a story consisting with three D’s (dark, delicious, and dirty) 😊. There will be suspense, betrayal, death, darkness, secrets reveled, violence, hope, forgiveness, and maybe even love along the way. Mishka sexy as all get out bratva out for revenge against another bratva leader who murdered his brother the one way into Sergio Sakharov organization the rival bratva group leader is through his son Viktor after helping him and of course he takes him home to meet the very man who killed his brother who brings him in as Viktor’s bodyguard but when his younger sister runs into literally shifting both their paths. Alina is a sweetheart when she wants to be in love with her brother’s bodyguard even though she is told to stay away from any guys since she is supped to marry for advancement for her father, her brother, but the more she tries to stay away from him, but fate isn’t going to allow it. The magnetic pull between them can’t be ignored even with the threat by her brother, knowing who her father is fate won’t allow neither of them to walk away from the other so giving in is their only option. But when her father assigns him to another job things get worse he isn’t into killing, torturing, hurting, others regardless if they are guilty and he has to stay away from his girl not to add the guilt of why he is there especially knowing she loves her family but where are they headed especially with her now pregnant with his child, will she tell him, will he accomplish what he intended without hurting or will he see that revenge isn’t always the best route….. ☹ WE HAVE TO WAIT FOR BOOK 2 TO SEE?

Alina is naive but sassy, I love how strong she is and willing to go after what she wants. Mishka is a bit tortured, but I am here for it. I like the juxtaposition of this brutal family and the love they obviously have for Alina. The writing is good, as I expect from this author. It was a bit slow to start, but that let us get to know the characters before the action started. The steam once they get together is hot! They can’t get enough of each other. Mishka likes to say Alina is his addiction. He’s battling between his feelings for her (and not wanting to hurt her) and his need for revenge against her family. And she’s battling between doing what she’s been told is right (marry well) and what she wants (Mishka). It does end on a cliffhanger! I am eager to get to their HEA and am invested in what further trials await them on the journey. Would definitely recommend!

Right from the outset, this book captivated me with its compelling narrative, leaving me eagerly anticipating the next installment. The pacing was spot-on, skillfully balancing the internal conflict within Mishka as he grapples with the dichotomy of vengeance and love, while Alina navigates her desire for independence amidst familial traditions.
I appreciated the contrast of the familial brutality against the evident love they harbor for Alina, adding depth to the characters and their dynamics. Although the story took a moment to gain momentum, this deliberate pacing allowed for a thorough understanding of the characters before plunging into the action.
As expected from this author, the writing was solid, and once the narrative gained momentum, the passion between Mishka and Alina ignited with intense fervor, leaving no doubt about their insatiable desire for one another.

Mishka Orlov is a man on a mission to avenge his brother's death. He can't believe his luck when he manages to befriend Viktor, Sergio Sakarov's son and gets him an interview as an employee for the family. When he enters the house, he meets Victor's sister Alina and is attracted to her and she to him. After an attack on the family after an event they attended. Mishka proves his worth to the family when he saves Alina. But they are attracted to each other and need to hide their affair or Mishka will be killed for daring to lay a finger on Alina. Lisa keeps you turning the pages with all the twists and turns and steamy romance between the pair.

An absolutely brilliant read - 5 stars of Lisa Cullen awesomeness
Lisa Cullen absolutely blew me away with Mishka & Alina's story. Their story is the perfect blend of dark mafia romance & enemies to lovers. They are truly opposites & the saying opposites attract comes to mind. Fighting the attraction between them is a lesson in futility but giving in may have dangerous consequences. She knows that she wants him & he wants her but what is holding him back? The story ends on a cliffhanger that will leave you wondering how their story ends.
I can't wait for the next book.

This is the first book in a duet. I think its greatest strength is in the characters. Alina has a sweetness and a certain naïveté, but she is intelligent and she’s learning what really goes on. Mishka is perhaps more complex because he’s more mature. The author does a good job of navigating his love for Alina vs. his hatred for her father, and the complications from both. The cliffhanger wasn’t much of a cliffhanger, but that didn’t hurt the suspense factor of the story, and I am interested still to read the second half of the duet.

Wow, The Sinister Alliances Duet: Book one. This book had me hooked from the start and the cliffhanger OMG! The two main characters Alina and Mishka was hot, Mishka wants revenge for the death of his brother. He saved the life of the enemy boss's son, then he becomes the son's bodyguard. Alina was pleading with her father if her and her friends can go to their club for her birthday, her brother takes her to the club with his men, she is infatuated by the bodyguard and drags him up onto the dance floor she does dirty sexy dancing with him only to get a rise from him.

Mishka and Alina. Hes bratva who wants her father dead another bratva leader who killed his brother. He infiltrates the other leaders group by saving his son and when he brings Mishka hoime to meet his father the man who killed his brother he offers him a bodyguard position for his son. Then enters his sister Alina. Shes instantlly attracted to Mishka but she is to save herself for an arranged marriage to help the family. But they cant stay away from each other and now she has a secret that could kill them all. Didnt see the ending coming. Great read cant wait for the next book.

This is Book 1 of Sinister Alliances. It does in on a Cliffhanger.This is Mishka and Alina's story.and what a story it is! Full of revenge for the death of his brother he goes undercover to work for the family responsible then he meets Alina the daughter and begins to fall for her as they take their relationship to the next level. But then Alina finds out something and makes her reconsider things. Great first book inthis series!!.

Mishka is a common foot soldier without a Bratva when he steps up and helps the Pakhan's son in a fight. Before he knows it he is a member of the Sakharov Bratva, the strongest in the city. This was his goal all along. Alina is the Pakhan's very spoiled daughter. She is beautiful and expected to marry well but her father is not setting up someone for her. Alina is also going to college to be a vet. Lisa Cullen does a great job with this book. If you like mafia books then this one is for you.

This is book 1 in Cullen's Sinister Alliances, and I was hooked from the very beginning. Our main character Mishka is out for vengeance and that's the only thing on his radar, until...until her meets Alina who just happens to be the daughter of his enemy. This book was dark, delicious and dirty in all the best of ways! Well written and addictive with steamy chemistry, danger, secrets, violence, and hope. I can't wait for what's next!

I don't know what to say but I'm pretty much just in love with this book!!! I read it in one day and importantly I felt what the spicy and importantly the emotional love and pain the characters went through. Now I have to find out what happens to them in book two👀! Ah! I can't wait! Author Lisa Cullen you did it again! What incredible book!!!! If you haven't read her mafia books yet or her other books please do you won't regret it!!! I most definitely be reading this book book again!!

Omg I need more and can’t wait for the next book. Mishka is out for revenge but never expected the daughter of the man he loathes to make her way into his heart He is everything her father would hate and yet their connection is undeniable. All Alina wanted was to have a life of her own and be a veterinarian until he showed up in her life. Misha wanted revenge for his brother's death and had integrated himself into the Sakharov bratva. He just wasn't prepared to like the son and especially the daughter of the killer. Alina is much of the good girl and Mishka of the brooding boy. The book ends on a good cliffhanger.

This story got my attention immediately!!! I couldn’t put it down until I finished!! Mishka is strong, determined, single-minded, and very protective. Alina is difficult, a bit bratty, and unsure of what she wants. Excellent, engrossing read!!!

If you’re sleeping on this author, I would wake up and check her out! Unlikely Protector had all the great mafia romance tropes- enemies to lovers, close proximity along with grumpy/sunshine. However, unlike our typical morally grey anti-hero, Mishka is a complete cinnamon role. Alina and Mishka had great chemistry, and she as sweet but fierce. I consumed this book quickly and dove right into the sequel!.

This is a well written book with strong characters in Alina and Mishka. The author does a great job developing the story and takes you into their lives with intrigue, revenge, surprises and a growing love. She moves the story fluidly with her descriptive scenes and delivers a terrific read.

I really enjoyed reading this book. Once I started reading this book I had a hard time putting it down. The storyline is so enjoyable I was hooked from the start. I couldn't wait to read what was going to happen next. I would recommend reading this book. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

This was book 1 of 2 telling Mishka and Alina’s story. This book was go good to read. Between the chemistry and the secret meeting. I felt like I was in the story, at some point I cried. It ended on a cliffhanger. I can’t wait to read the next part.

A Very rough and hard mafia story, I cried a lot, it is filled with mystery, danger, suspense, marvellous love and steamy moments. The cliffhanger is absolutely amazing can’t wait to read book 2 in this series.
