Looking back, they called those turbulent times The Troubles. A period of chaotic upheaval and destruction that sent the Republic reeling through successive crises, each growing more desperate as the galaxy spun out of control.

Exactly when The Troubles started… that was open to interpretation. After the Savage Wars were thought to have ended, said some. Others claimed that period of death and war began with the Republic’s action on Psydon. Still others pointed to the Republic’s forced migration of the zhee, or even the arrival of the Mid-Core Rebellion, culminating in victories against the Legion at Kublar and the genocidal atrocities extending as far as Rhysis Whan.

But no matter when they began, the galaxy-shaking events of the The Troubles were well remembered by those who suffered through them, and the scars of those upheavals would leave their indelible mark for years, and perhaps lifetimes, to come.

The brazen and open government corruption infesting the former capital planet of Utopion.

The arrival of the tyrant Goth Sullus, who briefly united opposition to the Republic before falling prey to the vanity of the title… The Emperor.

The Legion invoking Article Nineteen of the Republic Constitution, bringing an all-consuming flame to a simmering cold war that had long been stewing between the rulers and those forced to fight their needless wars.

The sudden unexpected attack by an alien race known as the Cybar. Relentless. Cruel. Inhuman in the extreme.

And finally, the long-planned return of a tribe of lost Savages, led by their messiah… the Golden King.

The Troubles. A quaint name for a horrific period in the galaxy’s history. A period whose atrocities were superseded only by the terror of the Savage Wars that had come before. Almost no corner of the galaxy was spared a taste of terrible war, cutthroat intrigue… and remorseless death.

In the aftermath, this battered galaxy now longs for peace and stability. The Republic, now reformed, seeks to govern by rule of law. But no matter how sincere the reform, how earnest and well-meaning the ruler, some worlds refuse to place their destiny in the hands of others. Ever again.

Been there. Done that. Got burned along the way.

Because some things never change. Power summons would-be tyrants eager to seize it. Ancient vendettas cry out to be settled. Corruption worms its way through the souls of men too weak to resist it, or too wicked to try. And dead-eyed killers gather in all the usual star ports, awaiting the opportunity to do what they do best for the promise of a quick credit.

Through it all, the silent Legion waits for its cue to once more tread upon the stage and break their enemies through nothing more, and nothing less, than total violence of action capably applied. As though this time… things will be different.

Out on the edge, they say… Everyone’s got a plan, until the Legion shows up.GALAXY'S EDGE SEASON 3 STARTS HERE!

I hate how much I enjoy the combat in these books because they are otherwise a complete mess. These guys clearly know what they're talking about with small unit tactics. It all comes across well, etc, etc.

What these guys don't know how to do is pace or plot a story. Coming off the previous book (where the big universe destroying bad guy is defeated "off-screen" between chapters) the story jumps 3 years. Not only that, half the story also takes place in flashback! The flashback then fleshes out events that took place back in the first few books of the series!

It's nonsensical, it's silly, it's unnecessary. I already knew the bad guys sprung the other bad guys from the prison colony. I already knew Aeson Keel/Ford/Wraith is a bad ass. What I don't know is why do we need to know this? Why is Chunn investigating this stuff years after the fact? Where's Ford? Give me some context! Hopefully it'll be more clear next in the series, but this isn't what they mean by leave your readers wanting more.

Finally, and most problematically, there are just sections of this book where characters reiterate the same thing over and over again to themselves and others. This happens mostly in the Sinisia Hunter Team section of the book. The officer is concerned, the sergeant is grizzled and dissatisfied, the translation software doesn't work quite right. We got it, man. You don't need 10-15 pages of that, 2 pages of action, and another 5 pages of nonsense. Just get to what matters. This is not the type of book where this is done for a literary effect or to enhance the world building, it's just irrelevant, repetitive, pointless filler.

I will be reading the next one, but I'm beginning to really hate myself for that. 3 stars.

Fantastic. No disappointments at all, in fact…

…credit needs to given where it’s due. The smaller details like the AI, the bots and their “Logica” language, the smarmy bot attitudes and superiority are all amazing.

One of my absolute favorites is Death Destroyer of Worlds, the tiny little murder bot that could. The sentience - or spark - given to key bots makes these stories worth every detail and moment. So thanks, Jason and Nick, for the laughs and the unexpected depth with these details. And Lao Pak is freaking perfect.

So anyway, the book is amazing and detailed in its telling of Wraith’s very beginnings told by his closest friends. It makes a book about war and death become way more poignant than it has any right to be. Highly recommended.

I honestly wasn't too excited for this entry since most of season 2 felt like filler. I also thought that season 2 ended so well, that it didn't make sense to continue the series.

However, as an individual entry? This is a great book. The story was pretty good, and I loved the character development they pulled off.

The Wanted (Galaxy's Edge #23)

Another great adventure at the Galaxy's Edge. Read any book in this series. You can always go back to check out the other stories. The writing team of Jason Anspach & Nick Cole will never disappoint. As a bonus, you will have the added talent of Mark Boyett performing the stories to perfection. KTF will live on! - Mr.Bill

Nice to have the back story for Waith. However I knew there was something about Denver’s that I could now understand. Hated him from the start and now that he is actually working for Korr it all makes sense! Waiting to see where the next installment takes us.

Another outstanding adventure!

I liked it completely without exception. I lose myself and time when enjoying these adventures. I can't say enough positive things about them to truly describe just how great they are!

I enjoyed this book. it is interesting to get some back story on what was happening while Keel became Wraith and all the twists that led to Article 19.

I loved this series. Avid reader (well, listener) of the whole main story to the end of season 2. I saw this came out and was hopeful but skeptical. It ended so well, what could possibly be added? This book was fun- pretty much what you should expect at this point. But, it also felt like a… cash grab? Not that it was heartless, but rather than let a good thing die, it almost feels dragged out. I would have preferred moving on to new characters in a new story, I think. Still good, but not good enough for me to continue the series. The “Troubles” are over. Let them stay that way.
