Her perfect life is a lie… but who’s the liar?

Denise Grady is supposed to be dead.

After a car crash claims the life of her sister and her nephew, Denise is ravaged with survivor’s guilt. She finds solace in the arms of the only person as shattered as she her sister’s widowed husband.

Their shared grief turns to love, and the pair restart their lives together. They purchase a house at the edge of a master-planned community. And for a moment, life seems perfect.

But perfection is fragile, and reality has cracks.

Denise’s toothbrush changes color. The expression on the painting above the mantle subtly changes from a smile to a scowl. And the presence of her dead sister lingers… Denise swears she can even smell her perfume and hear her voice.

Her therapist calls it survivor’s guilt.

But Denise thinks something else is happening.

Something is pushing her in a dark and dangerous direction, towards the same path her mother once walked. As the line between reality and madness blurs, Denise must unravel the truth that lurks beneath the shadows of her perfect life.

From the dark imaginations of Nolon King and Lauren Street, the best-selling authors of Replaced, comes In Her Place, a psychological thriller that peels back the layers of a seemingly perfect life to reveal the lies that entangle us all.

Great thriller! Laura and Denise are sisters when Laura is driving, crashes, and Laura and her unborn baby are killed. Now Denise lives with "survivor's guilt" and after being in a coma for a month, Laura's husband, Connor takes her to his home as she's on crutches. After a quick four months he proposes and they marry. And then the "fun" begins! Taking medication for anxiety, Denise is so confused as her memory is flawed: her yellow toothbrush is suddenly blue, her sister's picture has a malevolent grin on it, and she can't seem to remember which house in their new development is theirs--often going into the "wrong" house and finding other people! What's going on? Read it and find out; it's a gem!

This was an amazing book! I had suspicions throughout but I kept questioning everything with how believable the suspicious characters were. I had no idea if Denise was crazy, if her sister was back from the dead or if Connor was a villain. I couldn’t put this book down, I was dying to know what was going on. This would have been an easy 5 star for me except 2 big inconsistencies in this book. Denise was said to have an Etsy store she relied on for income and was behind on orders after the accident but then later it states she gets paid from the company and just opened her Etsy store after her recovery. The second one is Denise said how she couldn’t cook, her sister was the amazing cook but later on Denise is happy to get back into cooking again. I thought they might get explained away if the book went a certain way but it seems like just plot error. Overall an amazing page turner.

Thank you to @NetGalley, Lauren Street, Nolan King and Sterling and Stone for my free arc to read and review!

As soon as I saw this was available on NetGalley, I claimed it as fast as I could! After reading 'Replaced' last month and LOVING it, I knew this would be just as great and I was not wrong! This is the second in the 'Replaced' series but a stand alone with a whole different story and different characters. LOVED, LOVED, LOVED it so much!

This was a very fast read that i devoured in a couple hours! I could NOT put this down and it kept me at the edge of my seat! Very suspenseful and thrilling!

Denise loses her pregnant sister in a terrible car accident in which she was driving. After waking up from a coma, weeks later, Lauren's husband has stayed by her side, day in and day out. He takes care of her during her recovery, inviting Denise to live with him. Friendship turns to love and they marry a few months later. Soon after coming home, Denise starts having delusions, forgets things, gets seriously confused about situations and questions who she is.

Her neighbors in their new neighborhood are very mysterious and have her dumbfounded. She keeps getting them all mixed up. This one married to that one, but no, she's got it wrong again. Then they start calling her Lauren, her dead sister, making her even more confused. She even wakes up in a different house every morning or so it seems.

What is wrong with her? Is she becoming schizophrenic like her mother or is it just grief and her recent head injury? Not everyone is who they seem to be.... who can Denise trust and who can she turn to for help?

Fans of Frieda McFadden and Daniel Hurst will LOVE this thriller!

This book was a RIDE.
It will have you hooked from the very first page!

Laura and Denise are sisters, very close ones at that. One afternoon together, an accident changes everything.

After Laura’s tragic death, Denise finds comfort in Laura’s husband, Conner. Denise finds herself feeling constantly guilty and selfish.

After many “coincidences”, Denise questions if she is experiencing survivors guilt or losing her mind.

Thank you to netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read this amazing page turner!

The beginning of In Her Place felt very rushed to move the plot along quicker. Denise so quickly shacking up with her dead sister’s husband did not feel plausible to me. The more I read the more intrigued I got, though! This thriller will keep you on the edge of your seat to try and see what the real reality is! Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to read this intriguing mystery!

📚MY RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐✨

📚MY REVIEW:

Nolon King and Lauren Street are back again, with Book 2 in the Replaced series...This book was the perfect twisted combination of domestic thriller and psychological thriller!

Our main character, Denise, is an unreliable narrator - one of my favorite kinds of MCs. After a terrible accident kills her sister, Denise marries her sister's husband. Y'all, this book could have been titled "Gaslighting," and it would have been an understatement. So intense was the gaslighting, I questioned if maybe I wasn't remembering what I'd previously read accurately. This book was, at times, so baffling that I genuinely felt as if I was the one being gaslighted as I read it.

This book was a twisted story that kept me on my toes as I tried to sort out just what in the holy hell was going on. The story was well written and the terrifying confusion of the MC was palpable.

I loved the first book of the series, Replaced, and In Her Place did a great job of taking the concept even further. I will say, there were parts of the storyline that felt a little over the top to me (she married her sister's husband?!). And I wished the conclusion of the book would have lasted a little longer, because it felt as if the story wrapped up too quickly for me to feel fully vindicated after all the damn gaslighting I experienced while reading the book.

I absolutely recommend this book and this series! Bingeable and captivating, both books can be read as a series or as standalones! This was an entertaining read, especially if you really love domestic thrillers. But settle in for a wild ride...

A huge thank you to @netgalley and Sterling and Stone for this advanced copy in exchange for my honest review!

Thank you NetGalley for this Arc book! Omg what a ride this was! I literally inhaled this book in one sitting!
It was so confusing in the best way! I had guessed the ending but it was still such an amazing ride to take with the protagonist Denise that I didn’t even mind.
The premise of the book is that Laura and Denise are sisters and best friends. Laura is married to Conner and they are expecting their first child together. One fateful day after an ob-gyn appointment where Denise is driving Laura back home, the breaks of the car fail and they get into a catastrophic accident. Laura dies and Denise ends up in a coma for about a month.
When she finally wakes up she finds Conner and because of their shared grief they become close and eventually (a bit too soon in my opinion) get married.
Now strange things starts happening to Denise. Things keep changing around her, her version of events don’t seem to align with anyone else’s etc. the question is, is she losing my her mind or is Laura back to punish her.
This book is coming out in the 19th of March 2024! It should so be a bestseller and I can see this as a Netflix series as well!

Denise was bringing her sister, Laura, back from the baby doctor when the breaks failed and their in an accident. Laura and the baby are killed and Denise is badly injured. Her brother in law, Connor, comes to visit her in the hospital and when she’s released, she goes home with Connor. Connor takes care of her and then proposes to her.
They marry and move to a new house. That’s when things start getting weird. Denise is paranoid, seeing different flowers in her sister’s wedding picture. Plus her facial expressions keep changing. Denise is confusing the neighbors up and thinks she hears her sister’s voice. Is Denise having a breakdown or is something else going on.
Told in Denise’s point of view, except for the very end. I myself like at least two or three pov’s. Another thing that bothered me was her marrying him only several months after the death of her sister. It will keep you in suspense. Several errors.

In a few short months he sweeps her off her feet and convinces her to marry him but is he in love with her? Or worse, does he have ulterior motives and she has put herself in grave danger by being with him?
After their wedding they move to a development that for unknown reason has been abandoned and with only three other families they take up residence and the terrible games begin. Someone is gaslighting her but who? Is it her new husband? Is it one of the couples that live in their small circle? Can she find out the truth before she ends up dead?

Denise and her pregnant sister, Laura are out driving, and the brakes fail.
Denise survives - Laura and her baby don't.
Denise is badly injured, and her support is Laura's husband, Connor. They grow close and get married. Moving to a new estate with few neighbours, Denise feels isolated, and there are many strange occurences. Connor insists that the strange occurences are her imagination.

Another unputdownable thriller from Nolon King and Lauren Street.
Creepy, dark and suspenseful, I could not put the book down until the end, to see if my suspicions were correct.
Yes, I was correct, but it was the journey to the end of the novel that held me rapt.

Thanks to Netgalley and Sterling & Stone for the opportunity to read this book.

After a car crash claims the life of her pregnant sister Laura and Laura’s unborn child, Denise Grady is ravaged with survivor’s guilt. She finds solace in the arms of her sister’s widowed husband. Grief turns to “love”, and they start their lives together. They buy a house in a new community and life seems perfect for a short time. What her therapist says is “survivors guilt” might actually be something more, something darker. Is Denise losing her mind like her mother did with her own mental issues?

The author takes you on a wild ride with lots of twists and turns which, at times, are difficult to follow but you are brought back to the main road without much difficulty. I love edge of the seat thrillers, and this one did not disappoint!

Not Nolan King quality

***SPOILERS***
I have read many books written by Nolan King and have been impressed with the characters, plots and storylines. This book was not up to par with his work. This was a quick read.
I guessed immediately what & who was to blame. The storyline was a bit far fetched, the main character was weak and not savvy. She had reservations on her relationship with him but continued it?! How she verbally assaulted her “friend” but couldn’t do the same to him. Poor decisions were made by her especially at the end. When she was gathering evidence but didn’t go to the authorities after seeing what he did to Helen was not a smart move. The first book in this series was better.

interesting, yet predictable!

This is the second of the series, though I would admit, I enjoyed the first book a bit better.

While the plot was interesting, it was relatively easy to figure out what was occurring. The character building is excellent. I felt I understood the characters well enough early in the chapters, then the story proceeded to linger on a bit too long. I got a bit bored waiting for the action / reveal to begin. Once it did, I thoroughly enjoyed the twists that made the ending gripping.

As in the first book, I liked the shuttle message that having friends and loved ones in your life are certainly key to ones life.

This book was as crazy as Postpartum. I started thinking that Connor was gaslighting Denise early on. It got a bit frustrating with Denise being an unreliable narrator, but that is supposed to create the tension and make you question what’s going on. Is Denise really seeing and hearing things or is she being manipulated? Connor’s plan was pretty elaborate and detailed. His plan was to get Denise’s shares in her family company and he used actors to make her think she was going crazy. Glad he gets what’s coming to him in the end. Helen didn’t need to die.

Thank you, NetGalley and Sterling & Stone for the copy of In Her Place by Nolon King and Lauren Street. This was a fast and easy read. Seeing what Denise goes through after the car accident that killed her sister made it a real page turner. The reveal wasn’t a huge surprise, but the events leading up to it were engaging and engrossing. If you’re looking for a quick and entertaining read, this is it! 3.5 stars rounded up to 4.

This book was far too fast paced for me to really get into it. Within the first few chapters the accident happens and Denise has fallen for her ex brother-in-law and they are married. Then all the strange things start to happen and while it definitely does have you guessing early on, you can tell what is going on before the final twists are able to shock you. Overall a fast and easy read with a lot of twists but was a 2 for me.

In Her Place is an easy-read, but from the beginning I could make who was the villain of the story. Nevertheless, the book is well-written and kept my interest all along the difficulties faced by Denise in her new home and with her new acquaintances. Entertaining!
I thank the authors, their publisher, and NetGalley for this ARC.

Well I had figured out the plot very early in the book — but the rest remained a mystery to me. I couldn’t put the book down. I was getting so frustrated with Denise. What a really good book, just like Book 1, Replaced. Now I am on to Book 3. Thank you to the author/authors for writing such entertaining books.

I really wish we could do half stars!

This book was great!

I don’t see how it was a sequel?

I also felt the was wonderful, but wrapped up too quickly the last chapter or so.

Still loved the book.

Every twist and reveal in this story is predictable and the villain super obvious. No surprises; it plays out exactly as you'd think. However, I enjoy the storytelling; it's easy and accessible.

Took me a while to really figure out what was going on, but once Connor started asking her to sign over her shares I knew. Good read overall.
