Jamila and Makena are smart, bold, and totally relatable! I loved how this book mixed real historical facts with an imaginative mystery. It made learning about the Lost Colony so much fun. I couldn’t put it down!

As a history teacher, I appreciate how this book makes a historical event exciting for young readers. The characters are inspiring and the mix of fiction and non-fiction is genius. I highly recommend it for classrooms!

What a clever story! The way Jamila and Makena chase clues through history was thrilling. My daughter finished it in one sitting and immediately wanted to learn more about Roanoke. Books like this ignite curiosity—well done!

We read the Spanish version at home, and it was fantastic. So great to have access in multiple languages so more kids can enjoy the story and learn history in a fun way.

Listened on Hoopla with my 1st grader as a part of Colonial Era History curriculum. Not very well written and didn’t actually address many of the questions surrounding the Lost Colony, but it was an easy addition to our list of books to continue to study the topic
