From the author: When graduate student Decklan “Dek” Thomas is seriously injured in a lab accident while using the equipment belonging to scientist Lauren Summers without permission, everything changes. His body heals faster, his hearing and eyesight are better, and he can run like the freaking wind! After he learns Lauren has also been changed, and the two scramble to uncover what has happened to them, they soon realize their lives could be in danger — by the “virus” coursing through their veins and someone who wants to silence them … permanently. Never could they have predicted that the journey ahead would reveal a powerful enemy, a friend’s betrayal, and dark secrets which, if word got out, may have dire consequences for all mankind.
I found this book while doing the Charlotte book crawl and the author was doing a signing. Overall this book was fine. The premise is interesting and I can see he is building it up to be a series. My main complaints were around pacing, like 75% of the book was leading up to some momentum and then they tried to cram so much in the last 25% it just felt way too rushed at the end. Also the relationship between the two main characters felt super rushed and they were so off and on again it just was hard to believe it. But this was this authors first book and it’s better than I could do. And I appreciated the Charlotte local scenes knowing the author is a local as well.
This is a fast-paced medical thriller that grabs you during the prologue and sends you head first into a whirlwind. I love how if there is Vincent in a thriller, he’s most likely a killer. The action is well-placed between learning about the protagonists’ new abilities and how they might change the world for better or worse. Hated Richard, but you’re kind of supposed to. A cliffhanger ending leaves it open for a sequel, which I’ll definitely be picking up.
This book was a fast paced read that posed interesting questions about the possibilities of viruses effecting the evolutionary process. Really interesting/scary concept. Left on a bit of a cliffhanger so I can’t wait to find out what happens to Dek and Lauren and how this virus pans out! Love to read books that leave me thinking ‘what if?’.
First time author MD Jobe does a wonderful job of creating a world of fast paced excitement in the not too distant future. Throughout the book, I couldn’t help thinking, “Could this really happen?” And if it could, is it more terrifying or hopeful? Definitely a page turner!
Love this book. Fast paced thriller with well defined characters. Many twists and turns that will not let you put the book down. The ending was shocking!!! Enjoy.
