Girlfriend…without benefits? Hometown hockey hero, Blake has life completely figured out. He’s footloose and fancy free with the world’s coolest job and an endless parade of puck bunnies ready to help him celebrate his victories. The status quo is working for him, so why does he agree to co-parent a stray puppy with his too-serious, workaholic neighbor, Erika? And why is he so annoyed when she suddenly starts dating some tool named Doug? And why can’t he stop finding excuses to see her and touch her and kiss her and… She’s not his girlfriend, right? Erika has enough on her plate as an ER doctor without adding any more stress to her life. So adopting a dog with Blake, the fun-loving, never-take-anything-serious, commitment-phobe across the hall is a stupid idea, right? Of course, she also probably shouldn’t be his plus-one for charity galas either. Or seeking comfort from him during a thunderstorm. Or kissing his five-for-fighting boo-boos better. Or letting him teach her how to “reduce stress” with her personal toy collection. After all, he’s not her boyfriend. Is he? So what happens when two people reluctant to commit find love where they least expect it… Right across the hall.

Wow! I absolutely loved this book. Amazing characters and wonderful plot. Very beautifully written and easy to read.
Blake is a professional hockey player. He loves his bachelor life. He has a rule, after the win, if he contributed, he has fun with one of his available women. But lately one of them started getting clingy and he broke it off. Three years ago Erika moved in the apartment across from him. In the start he flirted with her, but she thwarted his advances, she wants a serious relationship that will progress to marriage and kids, but only after she finishes her residency at the hospital, and he gets hives at the mention of the M word.
They became best friends. One day after they both returned home, they found little puppy in the rain. They took it home and decided to keep him. They started co-parenting Corky. They shared their schedules and Corky stayed with one parent according to it. Erika started feeling lonely so she registered on the dating app. She met Doug and went out with him a few times. When Blake found out he was jealous, even through he didn’t understand why. Maybe because he showed Erika how to get relief from stress. He understood that he wants Erika and that he wants her for the long haul. So he started to court her. I loved their chemistry and passion. They were made for each other.
Overall I loved this book very much. If you’re looking for a friends to lovers, hockey romance then you’re going to love it.
I was so excited when I heard Mari Carr was going to write a hockey romance series and the first book in this series did not disappoint. I loved everything about this story especially Blake and Erika being co-parent to an adorable puppy named Corky. So many heartwarming moments with Corky as they realize there is something much more than just friendship between them. I enjoyed the witty dialogue, humor and steamy sex scenes that I’ve come to expect from this author. Loved meeting Blake’s teammates and looking forward to reading their stories as well.
I wasn’t sure about reading a book with a hockey team in the name, but Mari Carr always writes great books. I am so glad that I did read Restraint. Marie wrote wonderful characters. Blake and Erika have been friends and neighbors for years. Erika is a workaholic doctor, and Blake is a wild playboy hockey player. Things great steamy one night, and there is no going back. Like all great friends to lovers stories, there is no going back. Feelings are fought, but thank goodness they came to their senses. Restraint was so steamy. I’m surprised that my kindle didn’t catch on fire. A familiar pub is visited too. I can’t wait to watch more of these hockey players fall in love and get their happily ever after!
Both Blake and Erika were in points of theirs lives where neither wants a relationship for various reasons. As time went on they built a unique friendship built on no pressure. But the status quo begins to change when Erika in a moment of weakness says she's lonely and feels she's missing something. Lines start to cross and now they can't go back.. and may not want to.
-neighbors -hockey romance -friends to lovers -hockey player/er doctor -they adopt a dog together
these two were super cute & the realization they both made of their relationships made me laugh but man do i wish i'd have been warned that this was in 3rd person.
This series is based in Baltimore in Elio's former hockey team, Stingrays. Blake, hockey player and Erika (Erik) the ER residence live across the hall from each other for 3 years and have become best friends and eventually share Corky.
Great story line, loved the revelations on both sides.
Can't wait for the next books in the series!!! Looks like Coulton (the goalie, the emotional rock of the team), Preston, Tank (should be a blast!), and finally Victor (grumpy puss) will be getting their own books.
Sharing a puppy they found abandoned, these two best friends (a hockey player, and an ER doctor) and neighbors slowly discover they have developed feelings for each other despite both swearing off relationships, especially with one another. This story was amazing. I love a good friends to lovers romance and this book delivered it all. Blake and Erika are the cutest couple with the sweetest story, and the most adorable puppy named Corky. I loved not only the funny banter, and the very passionate, spicy, and in all honesty PERFECT steamy scenes, but their relationship was just exemplary. The way they cared for one another, how they were there for each other when they needed it, how they could anticipate each other's needs even before they figured out they had fallen in love, it was an amazingly emotionally touching depiction of a beautiful blossoming relationship. It had very emotional parts that just felt authentic and real. The spice was top notch, had me fanning myself and repeating OMG, over and over again. I loved everything about this book. The story, the plot, the characters, the pace, the dialogue. Cannot recommend enough!
This was my first Mari Carr book, but I’ve already started downloading books from her backlist to catch up in her world! I normally don’t love third person POV, but there was something about Erika and Blake that had me hooked regardless. I love that they’re both very intelligent people that are also kinda dumb in seeing the glaringly obvious. Their friendship was so well written that it felt natural and comfortable when it progressed to more. Reading this book was like cuddling up with a blanket and a cup of tea on a rainy night. I absolutely loved it!
These two were a lot of fun to read about! Best friends, sharing their lives, and eventually a dog, and they didn’t even see what everyone around them saw. A few slip-ups here and there, and then there was no stopping that train, though wires ended up being tangled a few times. They were just a great couple who were really good together, and we get to be with them as they finally figure things out <3
When Blake's neighbor turned him down flat, instead of taking the loss and moving on, he and Erika became best friends instead. They've even adopted a puppy and are raising her together. But instead of the friends only space they've stayed in all this time, now feelings are starting to develop that are way more than friendly.
Erika doesn't have time for much aside from her job as an ER doctor. So why is she adopting a dog with the pesky guy next door who somehow became her best friend? And why the hell is she starting to think of him as more than a friend, when she friend zoned him way back in the beginning when she rejected him flatly? Blake seems to be the least likely person to be a good boyfriend, but after having been friends this long, she's seen the best parts of him - the ones disguised by his playboy image.
These two took their own sweet time figuring themselves and their relationship out! But though they were both reluctant, and oblivious at first, they were seriously adorable. Blake surprised me at first, having initially come across as just the f boy Erika thought he was. Thank God he turned out to be an absolute sweetheart, because she deserved the great guy he actually turned out to be. Friends to lovers can be boring for the lack of a better term, but with Erika and Blake's chemistry, their snark and banter, there is no way they can be described any anything but hot, funny, and sweet.
ARC provided by The Author Agency for an honest review.
Definitely Check this book Out ! I’m in love with all Characters mentioned in this book and believe me you will too . A Best Friend to Lovers Hockey Romance Series but written in a third POV with a mouth watering Angst that slowly burns to one hot and heavy fire ! A good read indeed.
Ok let’s get into it !
Blake Wright the gorgeous hockey star lived across from his best friend who he met after she moved into his building, Blake aka Balakay as affectionately called by his bf was quickly sideline to the FRIENDS ZONE from early on. It wasn’t because she thought him a player, but rather that she was perhaps hesitant about jumping in so soon, She wanted Serious relationship he didn’t at the time but later on in the book you will see why.. So yup, Best Friend he was but without the Benefits. But Jesus, it was pretty clear to me that this relationship was anything but.. the man literally take care of her..he was doing (air quote) real boyfriend things but again without the bedroom benefits .. he was all that until after that one night tutoring lesson and one crappy Date that Blake realized that he was totally in trouble!
LESSON BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE LETTER M !
Blake sighed at her pathetic collection. “Seriously? One vibrator, lube…and where the hell did you find a dildo that small?” She scowled. “That’s not small. It’s perfectly average.”
“I’m not going to tease you. I’m going to teach you.”
Yeah Friend Zone Definitely crossed right there right?! Hmmm I need a friend like Blake ! Ok back to the story …
Dr. Erika Nelson affectionately called Erik who lives across from her Bestie the guy who made sure she ate when she was too tired to pay attention, ordered her groceries and comforted her when she needed after a stressful day at the hospital, eat most times together, spend time with his friends AND FAMILY!!!! , needless to say this man knows her well and takes care of her like any best boyfriend with benefits would, including Masturbating tutorials!
He’d f¥€ked her boneless with the shittiest dildo ever made.
Lord have mercy if you’re not busy come check out Clueless Dr Erika Nelson! (SMDH) But Listennnnn! Three . Years. 1.2.3. Three fricking years of this clueless in Baltimore shenanigans and.. and oh btw while watching Blake parade his celebratory hookups as he called them during that time ! And Blake stupidly hooking up with Puck bunnies and regaling her with stories (Palming my Face ) REALLY?! WT……! But Yeah all because she insisted that they remained friends.. Until they decided to co parent a dog that she dreams of since childhood, then that one night of hands on lesson by her hot neighbour Blake, That earth Shattering Tongue tango that made her mind go blank and that colossal f-up of Dating a Douchebag creep did Erick the clueless and Balakay the Joker realized what was in front of them the entire time!
But Listennnnn! These Two… Blake and Erika. They really drew out the friendship thing I tell you ! While everyone else saw what they obviously didn’t.
“She’s your f@cking girlfriend,” Victor growled, repeating himself. “A girlfriend without benefits, which is totally f@cked up.”
but yeah Erika didn’t want to cross the line.. that imaginary more than friend zone line ! Blake being Blake will have it no other way, he was that guy who was very persistent about getting his way, because yeah he realized what he wanted like his next breath and decided to fight for what he thinks both Erik and he could have, and it sure wasn’t going to be a fair fight!
“Tell you what,” he said, circling the island until he stood next to her. “Why don’t you mull it over? I’ll even help you. You think best when you’re kissing, right?”
THE LIGHT BULB MOMENT!
“That woman has been your f@cking girlfriend for three years. You’ve just been too f@cking stupid to see it.”
“She’s my girlfriend,” he muttered.
“Oh my God,” Erika whispered. “Blake is my boyfriend! I think he has been for a while.”
AND SO IT BEGAN!
This story was pretty straightforward and fun, granted it was a third POV which I normally don’t like, but again I however enjoyed this particular story maybe it’s how the characters were written or that the storyline wasn’t complicated to follow … I don’t know, but I loved it and can’t wait for the other characters mentioned stories,Blake’s Teammates. They seem like fun, especially Victor the dark and brooding and Tank the shameless flirt !
Absolutely reading more from this Author new to me !
Yup you definitely should read this Book if you love 💕

Restraint is 1 in Mari Carr's new Stingrays Hockey series.
Blake is a player for the Baltimore Stingrays hockey team. He has lived next door to Dr Erika, aka Erik, for three years now. They are just friends, but deep down Blake wants more.
Erika is in her fourth year of residency at the hospital and works a lot of late night shifts. She gets called in on her days off regularly. It is the life of a resident. When she was younger, there was an incident that forged her path in medicine and she has never wavered.
One rainy night, while walking home from dinner, Blake and Erika find a puppy. They each want to keep her, but know that their lives are not conducive to having a pet. So they jointly agree to co parent Corky.
Erika decides to try online dating. She has met a guy and gone out on multiple dates with him, but something is holding her back from taking that final step with him. On their last date, when she does not invite him in for more, he gets upset and dumps her. She goes upstairs and decides to get Corky out for one final walk before the storm hits, but she is so deep in thought that she does not see the signs of the storm moving in fast.
When a big crack of thunder strikes, Corky breaks free from her leash and runs off. Erik is in a panic, literally and figuratively. She is unable to find Corky in the storm and she is scared to death of storms herself.
When she finally calls Blake, he can tell something is wrong by her voice. He is at a team celebration for winning their game, but as soon as he gets the call he takes off.
They find Corky and head to Blake's apartment. Both Erik and Corky are completely soaked through. He gives Erik a towel to dry the dog while he works on drying her.
Erik ends up spending the night at Blake's. She needs the comfort of Corky snuggled up to her. She and Blake end up talking late about a lot of things, but it gives him more perspective on her.
When she goes next door to her apartment the next morning, her "date" is waiting at the door for her. He brought coffee and donuts for her. But when he sees where she came from and that she is wearing a pair of Blake's sweats, he becomes irate.
When Blake walks out the door to this scene, he solves the problem himself. Erik knew she was holding back for a reason. But until the night before she did not realize it was because she is secretly in love with Blake.
But Erik is afraid of ruining her friendship with him, so she does not act on her feelings. Until one night.
But when our favorite puck bunny, Mindy, makes an appearance in Blake's bed, will this ruin everything he has worked so hard to build with Erik?
Colt Carter and Suzanne T Fortin are both new narrators for me. I enjoyed how Colt handles Blake and his teammates. Suzanne brought entertainment to my silly nature with puck bunny Mindy. I loved her take on the character.
Well this one was good, a friends to lovers who only realize they love each other when she is trying a relationship with someone, it was good to pass the time, it got a few good laughs out of me. Their individual stories were good with Erika's story being the one I can highlight the most, I liked it and it made me think a lot plus it got a few good tears, Corky, our adorable puppy and what drives Blake and Erika to spend more time together is the main protagonist (no one can say otherwise), Blake and Erika have a nice friends relationship, when they are together they finally realize they always did boyfriend stuff and that's what I almost didn't like, Erika knew he was a playboy from the first moment they met, the change happened but it was a little eh? Otherwise it was a good story to pass the time and get out of the flow a little.
📌 I received an e-arc, and this is my honest opinion/review of it.
---
This was such a fun quick read! I love a good Hockey romance and this one was fun and different than most of the others I have read.
We meet Erika who is a Doctor. She lives in the same building as our MMC Blake. Blake and Erika are best friends. But the friendship line gets crossed when Blake helps Erika with her orgasm problem. Erika wants to keep that friendship line drawn but when a dog is found and they decide to split custody of the dog will their friendship turn into more since they can't help to stay away from each other?
Blake is a hockey player and a bit of a playboy. He tried to get with Erika when she first moved in but she drew the line at they would just be friends because Blake doesn't do relationships and Erika doesn't do casual. But when Erika starts dating Blake can't help but feel jealous and that he lost Erika to another man even though she wasn't his to begin with......or was she?
I really enjoyed Blake and Erika. These two are so in denial of their feelings for each other it is quite entertaining. The friend group was more in tune with their status than they were. I loved how Blake cared for Erika and would stop anything he was doing to be there for her if she needed him and vice versa. I loved the moment of clarity for both of the characters. Their relationship grew from friendship setting them up to be on solid ground and be more than friends.
I only wish that this was told in dual pov so we could really get Blakes feelings (Erika as well) but I really wanted to know more what was going through Blakes head when he had the realization he wanted Erika and was going to be all in.
Thank you to the Author Agency for the arc of this review.

Carr’s writing skillfully captures the tension and chemistry between the characters, making their interactions both intense and believable. The exploration of restraint and control in relationships may not appeal to everyone and could feel overwhelming at times. Additionally, the pacing of the story might feel uneven, with some sections feeling slower than others.

Mari Carr & Sports Romance, Yes Please! Great Story & Narration🎧
Restraint Stingrays Hockey, Book 1 By: Mari Carr Narrated by: Colt Carter, Suzanne T. Fortin
This is a fabulous start to Mari Carr’s “Stingrays Hockey” series, a sports romance that captivates your attention and tugs at your heartstrings the entire time. This first book is Blake’s, a professional hockey player and Erica’s, an E.R. doctor, story. They are neighbors in the same building and became friends, with Blake looking out for her best interests since she works too much and forgets to take care of herself. He is a player, and she has seen his playing ways with the puck bunnies he brings home. Then things between them slowly change, morphing into something more, something neither saw coming, or knew what they wanted, which was each other. This wonderfully plotted story has the perfect balance of drama, heartfelt emotions, and steamy romance. Mari Carr, thank you for another fantastic story and emotional rollercoaster ride.
🎧📚🎧 Colt Carter and Suzanne T. Fortin did a fabulous job bringing these characters to life and did so with a complete understanding of who they were portraying, giving each a voice that was fitting to their personality and demeanor. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the character’s emotions and had you feeling them all. These two made a great team, their voices and performance complemented each other and they were a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for this wonderful listen.
Oh man, this was such an easy read for me! I’m pretty sure this is the first book by Carr that I’ve read and I really enjoyed it. The relationship between Erika and Blake is so sweet and fun. They support each other, make sure that they are taking care of themselves, but aren’t afraid to give each other heck when they need it.
I kinda wish we’d gotten to see them together during the off-season when it seems like they spend the majority of their free time with each other. Or even in casual social situations with the rest of the team. I’d love to see more of those relaxed interactions because they are just the cutest together.
I think the best things are the moments when each of them realize their feelings for the other and the truth of their relationship. It’s funny and sweet and the meet cute equivalent for a friends-to-lovers trope. And while Carr had the opportunity to do some third act super-drama, I appreciate the restraint (pun not intended). The two of them just really deserved more than that so I’m glad she didn’t go there.
Restraint is low on drama, humorous, steamy, and entertaining … just all around enjoyable. And after getting glimpses of the rest of the team, I’m adding their stories to my TBR list. I’m also definitely going to be checking out Carr’s backlist!
(I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.)
Mari Carr’s new series about a kick-ass team of hockey players is shaping up to be awesome. Restraint kicks off with a bang as two people that never imagined they would ever move out of the friend-zone find love together—and adopt a furbaby. Playboy Blake learns that love can come in all forms, even from the friendship of a woman that he never imagined would steal his heart. He is the perfect character to show us all that sometimes all it takes for these guys to grow up is the love and dedication of the right woman. Erika never imagines that the best friend she ever had would be the man who steal her heart, but he slowly wears her down and proves to her that their relationship is worth risking it all for, and that they can have so much more together if they both just open their hearts. I loved every word of this story, the passion was an undercurrent even when they were both pretending it was “just friends”, but once they admitted it was more, watch out because the fire was unleashed. I am dying for more of these hot hockey guys and look forward to seeing the woman that bring them down. Mari has struck gold again with the Stingrays Hockey series for sure.
I loved this story and I cannot wait for more in the series!
Blake, a professional hockey player, and Erika, a ER doctor, live across the hall from each other. After she moved in, they quickly became best friends and spend most of their limited free time together. When they first met, Blake flirted with Erika, but after discovering his desire for only casual hookups, Erika quickly shuts him down, because she wants a relationship, or at least she plans to want one, after her residency is complete, and her life slows down, which is quickly approaching.
After finding an abandoned puppy, these best friends decide to adopt her together. As the new puppy parents start to navigate life, they grow even closer, and start to question their feelings for each other. Blake wonders if he is done with the revolving door of women, and Erika realizes that she needs to start dating, and finding Mr Right. But Blake and Erika are continue to be drawn together, and a few kisses quickly turns into more. When Erika meets someone who fits everything she is looking for on paper, she tries to make it work, but what she feels when she is with Blake, is always there. As for Blake, nothing flares up feelings more than jealousy, and realizing Mrs Right is his best friend, now he as to convince her to take a chance.
Best friends and neighbors, emergency room doctor Ericka and pro-hockey playerBlake are both living their best lives. While they are attracted to each other, Ericka has made them both promise to never cross that line and lose the friendship they both hold dear.
But, suddenly it seems like it isn’t enough. Blake is tired of the puck bunnies and Ericka is feeling lonely and wanting something more in a relationship. But, neither is looking at the other as a solution.
But, there is so much between them, including the dog they adopted and are co-parenting, a very persistent puck bunny, a perfectly nice man to date and some very crossed signals. Will they both see what’s in front of their eyes before it’s too late?
I really loved this friends to lovers romance. Ericka and Blake are virtually dating without realizing it, since there’s no sex involved. But, they literally plan their lives around one another. It’s adorable that they can’t see it when everyone else around them can. The author did a fabulous job of keeping things both light and adding in the emotions to make these characters have depth and feel very real. I honestly loved that there wasn’t some big crazy drama or plot twist and the story really just focussed on their friendship slow burning towards love with some obstacles thrown in the way, mostly of their own doing. 5 stars!
Hot new hockey series starter coming at y'all! Honestly, 1. I asked for an ARC of this book before the cover was revealed and I did it because it had a stingray on it. That's my animal right there. but...I wasn't disappointed! 2. Even though this was a short book, you won't miss out on the steamies!
Blake, the center for the NHL Baltimore Stingrays, has found himself in the position of falling for his best friend, next door neighbor. He's always said that he was happy with his lifeand the string of puck bunnies that come along with his career....but somewhere along the way he realizes that his best friend is the girlfriend with none of the girlfriend benefits. Erika, an ER doctor, the next door neighbor, best friend has always been looking for the future. The relationship, the husband, the kids...everything that Blake is against. She takes a little longer to have her eyes opened, but one night in the box with two former NHL players and their wives, she realizes that hey...Blake is the boyfriend.
The ultimate tying factor of these two characters to confront their feelings, was the abandoned puppy they adopted, then co-parented.
I loved their friendship and the banter. How Blake took care of Erika in every way, including helping her with her Instacart orders. I think my most favorite was both of the 'ah ha!' moments these two characters had.
I'm excited to see how the rest of this series plays out...especially Tank. Thank you to Mari Carr for trusting me with reading this book early! *chef's kiss* to your spicey scenes ma'am. And thank you to the author agency.
I can’t tell you how excited I was to see that Mari had a new series starting, and I wasn’t disappointed at all. Everything about this book was designed to entertain you & keep you wanting to know what was about to happen from one chapter to the next. I loved Blake & Erika’s chemistry, banter & friendship. Throw in hockey & a cute puppy that the neighbors agree to coparent, and how could you not wanna read this lol. No one, especially them, could’ve forseen how that arrangement could possibly lead to other domestic & relationship-type activities. Activities that keep leading them both closer & closer to a real relationship with each other that neither one is interested in…or at least, they didn’t used to be 😉 I was fully invested & hooked on their HEA within the first few chapters. Their characters were so easy to relate to, and their likability was through the roof. You can always count on a believability to Mari’s stories, and plenty of heat & emotion to keep you thoroughly immersed in the story from beginning to end. That’s exactly what this one delivered, and I can’t wait to see what happens next ❤️
I received an ARC of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
"Restraint" by Mari Carr kicks off the Stingrays Hockey series with a fun and quick read that blends neighbors/close proximity and friends-to-lovers tropes.
Erika, an ER doctor, and Blake, a carefree hockey player, navigate their evolving friendship when they decide to co-parent a stray dog. Despite their agreement to keep things platonic, sparks fly and feelings deepen, leading to jealousy and unexpected realizations about their relationship.
Pros:
Engaging characters with a humorous and light-hearted dynamic. Unique premise involving co-parenting a dog. Entertaining exploration of friendship turning into something more. Cons:
Pacing occasionally slows with scenes that don’t advance the plot. Limited depth in secondary characters like Erika’s love interest, Doug. Single POV narration leaves some character motivations less explored. Overall, "Restraint" is a charming start to the series, perfect for fans of hockey romances looking for a quick and enjoyable read. While it didn’t fully meet my expectations, I’m curious to see where the Stingrays Hockey series goes next.
This is book 1 in Carr's new series Stringrays Hockey and I am loving this new series. Our main characters are Blake and Erika who are neighbors who have become the best of friends. Initially there was some chemistry, but Blake was a player both on and off the ice and made it clear he was not the settling down sort, Erika was focused on her career and not yet ready but knew she wanted the forever Blake seemed so averse to and so a friendship was formed. I love the banter between them and the comfort that comes with knowing someone for years. I also loved the comradery between Blake and his teammates and even Erika and her newfound friends. I adore how these friends were supportive and helpful. I love how smoothly this romance transitioned the low angst and level of maturity and communication. Carr delivers a well written, sweet and steamy romance and our dual narration is perfection to bring these characters and storyline to life. I loved this start to the new series and I'm so excited for more!
This book was given to me for free at my request and I voluntarily provided this review. *this review is based on the audio version of this read.
Tropes: 💙hockey pro 🩶er doctor 💙neighbors to lovers 🩶 co parents of a puppy 💙3rd person pov 🩶cute banter
This was my first book by Mari and overall I enjoyed this book. This is Blake and Erica’s story and the start of a new series.
The MMC, Blake, is a hockey player and has really sworn off relationships and just has hookups instead. The FMC, is an ER doctor and has also not made relationships a priority in her life. They often hang out with each other, and are each other’s best friend and share the best banter.
When these two find a puppy and decide to co- parent the puppy . This sharing brings them closer and seems to shift their relationship.
I loved these two as a couple. They built their relationship up from friendship and supported each others wants and needs. It was so good to see their relationship change and grow as time went on.
I thought this was a great, fun, quick story that I enjoyed. I have not read tons of third person books but i didn’t feel it ruined story or took me longer to read. A great hockey, friends to lovers romance.
Erika and Blake are next-door neighbors who couldn't be further from opposites. Erika is the planning ER doctor who wants commitment and routine while Blake, the pro hockey player who goes with the flow, loves partying and Puck bunnies. When Erika and Blake adopt a dog together, Blake spends more of his time taking care of his girls, and Erika finds herself comparing every date to Blake but neither want to ruin their friendship.
I love that while it took Blake a while to realize his feelings for Erika since they kept themselves in the friendzone, he never stopped caring for her in so many ways. Blake was the first person Erika fully trusted, and while it took them getting through some personal struggles, what they found with each other as more than friends was so good! At approx. 230 pages, this is a quick yet cute read and the first in a new series!

Mari Carr scores a goal with the first book in her Stingrays Hockey series! Erica and Blake are best friends. Since Erica moved in, the two have been close. Down to leaving their apartments open so they can just walk in, the ER doctor and hockey player have a special relationship. Then why when Erica goes on a date or Blake brings a puck bunny home does it bother them? Carr weaves a story of friends to lovers, full of emotional turmoil, passion and I can't forget the dog. I love getting to know new characters, and this start promises more fun to come as these two find their happiness. I cannot wait for more.
Cole Carter and Suzanne T Fortin are perfectly cast for this story. Carter is the man! Full of feelings, it's fun to hear his voice change as the realizations come alive. Erica is layered. Full of past hurts, Fortin gives her each voice as she finds her happy place. I enjoyed these two and will be watching for more of each of them.
I haven’t read a lot but Mari Carr but after reading the blurb for Restraint book one in her new Stingray Hockey Series I was excited to jump in. I was captivated from the first page to the last line and if hockey player Blake and ER doctor Erika’s story is anything to go by she will certainly have a hit series on her hands. If you love friends to lover romances look no further than this entertaining read. Blake and Erika are best friends and when they find an abandoned puppy they decide to share the responsibility. What follows are two friends falling for each other as they make a home for an adorable puppy named Corky and I loved everything about this sweet, heartwarming story. This was a fantastic start to the new series and it has left me excited for what’s to come. I fell hard and fast for Blake and I want a friend just like Erika but it was watching these two go from best friends to lovers that took this book up a notch.
Restraint is the first book in the Stingray Hockey series. Blake has it all. He's playing professional hockey for his hometown team, he is surrounded by puck bunnies to help him celebrate, and he lives across the hall from his best friend, Erika. Then he agrees to adopt a puppy with his neighbor and best friend. Erika is an ER doctor who decides it is time to but herself out into the dating world. But Blake is not happy to see her dating. They agreed years ago to keep it strictly friends, so why is does he have the desire to kiss her and touch her? Erika knows Blake is not into commitment, so why is she agreeing to be his plus-one and seeking his comfort?
I really enjoyed Blake and Erika's relationship. It was a quick read, but had lots of heat. I love a good hockey book, so I can't wait for the rest of the series.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
