Lazlo Lemur and his friends are back and ready to learn new notes on the recorder! There's just one Amina can't seem to keep up. After all, two old notes and two new ones are a LOT to remember.Playーand learnーalong with Lazlo and Amina in this interactive musical tale!Written by a former elementary music educator turned bestselling children's book author, Vicky Weber strives to make learning fun through interactive musical picture books!
My students loved this book! They want a third book in the series desperately, especially one that features the little spider and reveals the names of all the other lemurs! Oh, and they hope the lemur school teaches the lemurs about growth mindset 😝
I actually used this book as a review lesson for my second year recorder students to remind them of all they learned last year. It has a perfect blend of story pages that function as technique reminders and interactive pages for student involvement. They think Lazlo Learns EVEN MORE Recorder should feature C and high D!
I’m so glad Lazlo is back for more recorder! I love that the book starts by reviewing the notes from the first book and showing that sometimes you forget! I love that throughout the book Amina has some struggles but Lazlo is there to support her, just like she did for him in the first book. I also love that as the two new notes are introduced there are opportunities for readers/listeners to spot the error in how the lemurs are holding their recorders.
My students in my elementary music classes absolutely have fallen in love with Lazlo the Lemur as he learns how to play the recorder. They were so excited to hear that he has continued his adventure with this new book where he learns to play additional notes, G and E on his recorder. This time, the story begins with a much more confident Lazlo helping a friend to review how to play the notes B and A. I love how the author weaved in SEL into this story. Students need more and more examples of how to be a good friend and this story truly demonstrates helping out someone when they're feeling very nervous about learning something new. Again, the illustrations are absolutely kid-friendly and adorable, as well as accurate! It's wonderful to see the lemurs having their fingers placed correctly on their recorders and I love how the book is interactive where my students have to spot which lemur has the finger combination correct or wrong. The book promotes persevering and practice and would be a wonderful addition to your elementary general music library in your classroom!
I absolutely LOVED this second installment of our friend, Lazlo, who is learning to play the recorder! I felt that it gives a fun, positive approach to learning an instrument while also addressing the anxiety which might happen when a student can't "get it" right away. Lazlo proves to be a true friend by offering to be a learning partner and using positive encouragement to help his classmate. Every page offers something to learn--including some play-along measures that students can do while reading the book. The only thing I would change is making some of the fingering pictures a little more clear. Other than that--this book is a wonderful addition to my music classroom!
Lovely musical tale Lazlo has practiced on his recorder and wants to try it at school. However Amina is not yet ready. What happens in the music class at school? Lovely book teaching music and friendship to children. Enjoyable read for both adults and children. Beautiful illustrations.
