At San Diego Comic-Con, Chris Hart wants nothing more than to meet his favorite actress, Marie LeBeau. But someone else wants her dead.
When Chris manages to stop an attack from what can only be described as a ninja, Marie finds herself impressed by his martial arts prowess and offers Chris a job on her personal security team. Little does he know she has ulterior motives for wanting him close and may not be the person he thinks she is.
Everything changes when people associated with Marie start turning up decapitated. While Chris finds himself more vulnerable to Marie's charms than ever before, he realizes that being with her may not only put his life at risk, but his very humanity.
Bleeding Hart is a biting look at Hollywood that combines the quirkiness of Grady Hendrix with the hardboiled pulp of Mickey Spillane.
Conor Metz is a horror writer out of Bellevue, Washington. He has loved monsters since the zombies from Michael Jackson’s Thriller gave him his first reoccurring nightmare at 4 years old. Most of his life has been spent in the Seattle area, with about a decade in Los Angeles writing screenplays.
When Conor isn’t writing novels, he’s hard at work seeking out obscure horror films and trash cinema. He also may be found scaling random structures without thought of how he’ll get down or poorly practicing martial arts. Eventually, he plans to use this experience to become the notorious Seattle Ninja.

Happy Pub Day! I first have to say that I love this author’s use of similes. Some of the best I have ever read - hands down. So of course, I found this author’s writing to be superb.
It’s Comic-Con where Chris Hart will finally meet his favorite actress, Marie LeBeau. He can’t wait to finally meet the woman he’s watched on his TV, but he gets more than he bargained for when someone tries to attack Marie and he saves her from the attack.
Chris gets a job working for Marie, after his heroic display, and thinks his life is finally going the way it should. But he has no idea that he’s just entered into something he might not make it out of. Because the people around Marie have a funny way of ending up dead. Decapitated.
I had a blast reading this one. I loved it all. The story is split up into three parts which I found only added to the overall story. It laid the story out for us. “Waiting for a Girl Like You,” is the first part followed by “You Keep Me Hangin’ On,” and finally, my favorite, “Killer Queen.”
Killer Queen was my favorite and I just loved the character of Elena. Could you imagine losing a sword in the mail? It could have happened.
If you’re looking for a vampire horror story then you need to pick this book up. You’ll absolutely love it as much as I did.
With constant action you won’t be bored reading this one.
I won this book as a GoodReads giveaway! Thanks for the opportunity to read an advance copy!
I liked this story. It was original, funny, and kind of thought provoking. I was engaged right away (starting out the story at SDCC probably helped lol) and found myself unable to put it down. The story twisted is some fun ways that I definitely wasn’t expecting. I joined the giveaway because the book was described as having a similar style to Grady Hendrix, and I think that’s a very fair comparison. It was well paced, I liked most of the characters, and it surprised me at times. I definitely suggest giving this book a try when it comes out, you’ll be glad you did.
Although I don’t read comic books, play video games, or watch horror movies, a friend recommended Bleeding Hart, and based on the back-cover book description, the plot and subject matter were obvious but intriguing. So I dived in, suspecting there would be no surprises, but curious to see how the author would weave his tale. The main character, Chris Hart, is a below average, mid-twenties nerd who earns a meager living testing video games for $10/hour. The highlight of his life is attending Comic-Con for free in San Diego every year, thanks to his roommate and best friend, Nick. Chris is too poor and shy to have a girlfriend, but he idolizes horror actress Marie LeBeau, imagining her as his dream woman. When he meets her at Comic-Con, “…like a marionette with his strings cut, Chris suddenly loses consciousness and drops to the ground.” Embarrassing videos of his fainting incident dominate the Internet, but Marie feels sympathy for him and gives him free passes to her movie premiere and after party. Unusual events at the party draw Chris into the world of Marie LeBeau and the Hollywood elite. He soon finds himself working closely with her as his world spins out of control. It’s easy to understand how a guy like Chris could fall under the spell of a beautiful woman like Marie and be drawn ever deeper into her deadly web. The heart wants what the heart wants, especially when supernatural powers make it impossible to resist. What happens to this unlikely action hero? Grab a bowl of popcorn and a large beverage and settle in for an amusing read as you follow Chris Hart, an earnest, decent guy caught up in a real-life horror show.
Despite being a fan, I haven’t really touched any of the horror cult classics lately—no zombies, no mummies, no vampires—something that had me yearning for a good, robust story for a while now.
Bleeding Hart enters stage right.
Vampires get the spotlight here; the presence of a queen, her followers, hunters, and humans caught in the crossfire creates a volatile yet enjoyable situation.
The premise—a regular guy who’s the hero by chance first and the chosen one by design later—works well because of the author’s style. It’s fresh, quick-witted, and engaging, pushing the reader onwards. Hart plays against Marie and Elena in an interesting way, supported by a medium-sized cast of secondary characters.
Grammar and syntax are on point. The story has a pleasant rhythm and flows well enough. Well done! For obvious reasons, this is one of the most important parts of a book.
What doesn’t work for me is the structure repetition in the middle of the book, tho. Some events get told again from Elena’s pov, a choice that doesn’t rquote add anything to the story, per se. I would have preferred to learn about the relevant background as the story progressed.
this wasn’t my typical read, i’m not usually a horror author person. it did take me a little bit to get into the book, mostly because there were a lot of characters being introduced very quickly, so it was a little hard for me to keep track of everyone at first. this book definitely did not go the way i thought it was going to, which i really enjoyed. as someone who usually reads romances with HEAs, it felt refreshing to read a horror novel where everything kinda went to crap. i loved that chris was kind of a lovesick idiot. because he was the MMC, i kept thinking he would be smarter, anddd yet… i love seeing characters make choices that aren’t necessarily the “right” choices, because that’s what we do as humans. chris absolutely idolized marie and i kept wondering why he wasn’t questioning her or her motives, but in reality, i don’t think i would either if it were my idol/obsession. it was a very interesting read.

What I Did Like: +Part 2 ups the ante and gets WAY more intense. Of course, without the intro we wouldn’t have understood part 2 so the timing is perfect! +The vampire queen mythology is a fun one to play around with and I liked this modernized take. +Action scenes were well written. Easy to visualize what happened and it seemed mostly realistic. I also liked that everyone is not accurate every time.
Who Should Read This One: -Vampire fans, specifically those looking for a modern take.
It felt like reality which was so intense for me. The scenes were vivid that I loved that I was drawn in. This is not my favored genre, but I read the book and turned around and read it again. A good read.
