Welcome to Neverland. Where shadows consume and magic is frighteningly real.
Ava is struggling to provide for herself and her sister, who slips further into insanity with each passing day. Raving about Neverland. Obsessed with a Second Star that Ava can’t see in the black, velvety sky. Until the night Belle succumbs to the terrifying shadows plaguing her and sweeps Ava away to a land that is only supposed to exist in storybooks.
Neverland is real. And so is Peter Pan.
He's grown from boy to man, wielding a terrible power he uses to rule the island. When he senses Ava’s presence and sends his Lost Boys to collect her, a dashing captain with a silver hook for a hand comes to her defense. He offers her protection aboard his ship, and the help of his crew to find Belle before Peter and his Lost Boys do. But what he asks for in return might be more than she or her sister can possibly pay.
Belle once stole something invaluable from Peter Pan, something Hook and his crew need if they’re ever to escape the cursed island’s thrall. And despite their undeniable attraction, Hook will do anything to claim it before Pan can.
The Last Lost Girl is an atmospheric adventure in the land we all thought we knew, where secrets swirl within shadows, the banter is witty, the romance scorches, and the characters a shade darker than morally gray.
RONE Award-winning author Casey Bond lives on a rural farm in West Virginia with her husband and their two beautiful daughters. She writes phoenixes – gloriously flawed and morally gray characters that fiercely rise from the ashes of their circumstances.
Worldbuilding is one of her favorite pastimes. She thinks thunderstorms are better than coffee and that watching a meteor shower is the closest thing to magic you might ever see. She’s a firm believer that every amazing book needs a world you want to wrap yourself in, a character you want to win, and a love you would fight for.
Casey is the author of When Wishes Bleed, Gravebriar, House of Eclipses, and Where Oceans Burn.
Instagram review: If you love Peter Pan reimaginings, you NEED TO READ The Last Lost Girl by Casey L. Bond!
Ava struggles to care for her increasingly delusional sister, Belle, who raves about Neverland and a Second Star. One night, shadows sweep Belle away, taking Ava to the storybook land where Peter Pan, now a powerful ruler, senses her arrival. Rescued by a dashing captain with a silver hook, Ava joins his crew to find Belle before Peter and his Lost Boys do. However, the captain's help comes at a steep price: Belle once stole something invaluable from Peter, and Hook will stop at nothing to claim it before Pan does, even as an undeniable attraction grows between him and Ava. I picked this book up at Apollycon on a whim, and I'm so happy I did! Although I hadn't heard about it before, the author's description intrigued me instantly. This book hooks you from the first page and is an effortless read, with pacing that kept me completely engaged! While I typically dislike "amnesia" plotlines, it worked seamlessly here. The spin of Hook as the love interest and Pan as the villain was masterfully executed, giving the story a dark and menacing vibe.
The only downside THE ENDING! | thought it was a standalone, but the massive cliffhanger suggests more books are on the way! Overall, one of my favorite reads of the year so far!
If you liked hooked by Emily Mcintire, or loved watching Once Upon a Time for the "plot" *cough* Captain Hook *cough* but wanted more of that fantasy edge then this is for you!!
I LOVED getting back to the Neverland roots of the story and Hudson was a dream boat. The plot had me hooked from the beginning and the twists and turns made it all the more interesting.
I am obsessed and will impatiently await the second so I can know what happens because I SCREAMED at the end of this book.
Firstly, I'd like to express my gratitude to Casey L. Bond for including me to be a part of her Street Team. Being a part of it has truly transformed my experience within the book community. A big shoutout to Amber Garcia, also known as Lady Amber's Reviews & PR (IG: @ladyambersreviewspr), for ensuring a seamless release for CLB's work. Trusting her with such tasks is a decision well made, as she consistently delivers.
Does anyone remember the show "Once Upon a Time" that aired in October 2011? It was my introduction to retellings, and I never missed an episode. Casey L. Bond's work, however, takes the concept to new heights.
In her retelling of Peter Pan, Bond captivates her audience with unexpected twists. Forget what you think you know about Peter and Tinkerbell; this story redefines them entirely.
The dark and slightly eerie tone of the novel kept me hooked from the first page to the last. A work of wonder and highly recommended. Bond truly excels in this genre.
Due to release May 3rd!
Side Note: Yes, I’m a diehard fangirl. Think Boy Band. This is what you get. Nonetheless, Casey is definitely my soul sister. She’s living the dream all of us dreamed of when we were little girls. She will forever have my support.
This is probably one of the best fairytale retellings that I have had the pleasure of reading. It maintains just enough of the original story while spinning a completely new and unique tale that will have you hooked (pun DEFINITELY intended) from the first page to the last.
I didn't want to put this down and now I'm (im)patiently waiting for book 2.
Wait.. WHAT?? What was that ending?! 😭☠️ I need book two now. That was cruel. So I pretty much loved everything about this story. The darker Peter Pan retelling was delightfully macabre. I really enjoy Bond’s writing style. I loved the characters, the magic, the creatures, the world, and the memory loss aspect was so intriguing! It left me wanting more. Don’t even get me started on the shadows! Just lovely. Things I’m left wondering though.. work bestie?? What’s his significance in this story. And I would have liked more memories to be revealed. Something I found I don’t like as much was the modern real world references. There was quite a bit in the beginning and just my personal preference, I don’t like being reminded of the real world lol. And that spicy scene snuck in there at the end. I was like whoa! Kinda came out of nowhere at the 96% mark. It was a good spicy scene.. just felt like it was sudden. And then the ending. GAHHHH. Need book two now. Stat.
This isn't the story of Peter Pan you remember. This is a dark, ruthless Pan story were you better hold tight your memories, expect the worst, and hope to never forget your name. It captivates, it sizzles, and I am craving more of this dark Neverland.
The plot: Ava -- whose POV you follow -- finds herself in Neverland after helping her sister, Belle. Once they reach the Island they are separate and Ava's journey continues with the illustrious Hook. But things are as they appear. The plot -- a game of cat and mouse between Pan, Ava, Hook, and some other familiar faces -- moves pretty quickly. The story keeps you invested from start to finish. The cliffhanger at the end will have you cringing with dread because you can see the flashing lights, but are unable to stop it.
The characters: I really enjoyed following Ava's story. She is a compass character -- doing more through kindness that Neverland and its habitants often lack. I can't wait to watch her grow even more as a character. As for Hook, Smee, and the rest of the crew, there are a very different group altogether (and one I loved)! The found family and support between them added to the story. I also loved Hook has a character -- he is cocky, assertive, morally grey, and just a little bit lost. I hope we might get his POV in the future.
If you are a fan of Once Upon a Time, Grimm, and fairytale retellings, you absolutely want to add this one to your list.
I was in a reading slump and this book pulled me out from page 1. I've never read a retelling like this and ate it up within days. It was dark and mysterious, heartbreaking and emotional... and I cried, multiple times. That's a solid recommendation when a book puts me on an eerie, emotional rollercoaster! I'm ready for book 2 :)
Everyone has shadows within them – darkness only they can feel. And that darkness sometimes overshadows the best parts of us.
This Peter Pan retelling is everything 🥹 As a complete sucker for the original Peter Pan story, this story has taken some incredible elements from the original and made it, it’s own!
This twists in this story have you completely captivated, and just wanting to know what will happen next! A beautiful mix of magic and modern in a book! I’m also a sucker of Hook, and in this book my goodness 🤤
I had high hopes for this one, and I love it when those expectations are met! I absolutely loved this book, from start to finish. The pace was high, which I adored, and the fact that the scenery was largely familiar as well made it feel as if I was coming home after a long day. I can definitely recommend this is you love a good Peter Pan retelling!
OMG, what a wild and enchanting ride this was!! Once I started, there was no putting it down!! This isn't like the fairytale that you grew up with. It's so much more with quite a twist to it.
The characters were absolutely incredible. I loved reading and getting to know Ava, Hook and the crew. I love each and everyone of them.
The storyline sucked me into this book hook, line and sinker. There's adventure, friendship, love, hate, and edge of your seat suspense. It's got everything in it that brings the book to life. This author has outdone herself once again. And that ending....DUDE....leaving me hanging with that cliffhanger was a throw the kindle across the room type of cliffhanger and I yelled 'WHY?' to the sky. Well played Bond, well payed. This was such a fun retelling and I highly recommend this read.
If you’re looking for a super original retelling, THIS IS IT! Casey creates such a beautiful story that is different from any other Pan retelling. I also love how she has some really witty and currently relevant lines that made me laugh. This book is stunning inside and out! 2/5 on 🌶️ but I love the characters so much that I’m down for more 😂😘🌶️
This is not your childhood Peter Pan retelling, I can promise you that. I honestly didn’t know what to expect from this book- but I loved it. The depth provided to each character was so thought out. I was emotionally invested in each of their journeys from start to finish.
This book had me on the edge of my seat in the best way- I was enthralled and couldn’t put it down towards the end.
I laughed, I cried, I wanted to throw my kindle and def yelled at Casey in my mind- it brought out all of the emotions 😂
You do not want to miss out on reading this book, I can promise you that! I cannot wait to see where this series goes!!
✨️🖤Goooooossssshhhhhh! 🖤✨️Casey Bond, you knocked this out of the dang park girl! How am I supposed to wait for book 2
✨️✨️ 'The Last Lost Girl' is an enchanting five-star journey into the depths of Neverland, weaving a captivating adult twist into the beloved tale of Peter Pan. ✨️✨️
🖤As a fan of Peter Pan retellings, I was thrilled by Casey Bonds fresh take, which expertly combines mystery, intrigue, and unexpected twists. The characters are beautifully crafted, drawing readers into a world of forced proximity and amnesia, where every page holds a new revelation. I never expected a retelling to be so perfectly crafted into an adult book.
🏴☠️☠️The physical beauty of the book mirrors its captivating narrative. It's just gorgeous and a must have imo! ✨️✨️
The Last Lost Girl by Casey L. Bond ventures into a dark and twisted retelling of the classic Peter Pan tale, weaving an imaginative story where Neverland is a realm of haunting shadows and magic. This is my first read from Casey, and now I'm kicking myself for not reading her books sooner! I wasn't sure what to expect with this read, but I was absolutely blown away.
Ava's journey to Neverland unexpectedly turns when she has to rescue her sister, Belle. Her adventure is filled with danger, aided by the charismatic Captain Hook and his crew. This story reminded me of Once Upon a Time - which I LOVED, so I knew I would love this book. Hook, Smee, and the rest of the crew are hilarious. I loved every bit of their family vibes. The morally grey Hook gave me all the butterflies.
This retelling blends elements of fantasy and suspense, crafting a gripping story that captivates from start to finish. Dive into an immersive world that will beckon you to get lost within its pages. I'll join you at the second star to the right!
morally grey, he has a hook, and touch her and d**
What a wild ride! I’ll be honest retellings are not always my favorite reads but I LOVED this book! This book was able to have themes and a story that had characters and plot points similar to Peter Pan WITHOUT being the same book as the fable!! I adored this book AND the main characters! The multiple POV’s were strategic and allowed for incredible insight into the characters AND helped carry the plot! That ending has me in a choke hole! Book two where are you?!?! Oh right you’ll be out and know time thank goodness! An incredible read! I can’t wait to return to Neverland and Captain Hook 😏
Tropes:

I stayed up too late reading this because I did not want to put it down. I needed to know everything!
I absolutely loved the concept, the [redacted] and the {redacted]. Casey was so brilliant in the twists that she brought to her Peter Pan retelling. So much so I want to ditch the original Peter Pan and only know this version. There were so many shock moments and some tears, but so so so so worth it.
The characters were everything that I wanted and needed. Also the artwork within the book is beautiful! I loved being able to see the characters while I read.
I have to give the author credit for creativity. This book is a fractured not so retelling of Peter Pan. I normally shy away from these kind of books, but it was gifted to me and it has a beautiful cover! So I had to read. I really enjoyed the plot, I never could guess what was going to happen next. There is a cliffhanger so I need to read the second book (if there is one), so I will be circling back around to this author + series.
This was a really really great book. I couldn’t see the pictures of the texting throughout the book on my kindle and I wasn’t a fan of the cheesy pictures throughout. Other than that, this book has helped me out of my slump.
Literally read this in one day. I loved the book, the prose, the story. It had intrigue, tension, mystery, and that fantasy aspect. Can not wait to read more by this author.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The twist on the peter pam tale was so interesting. I breezed right through this and on to book 2 Excited to see how this plays out
I was absolutely captivated, hook, line and sinker from the first page!! I just couldn't put this twisted amazing Peter Pan retelling down!! It's Neverland as you've never seen it before! I absolutely loved all the twists and turns discovering lost memories and hidden truths. And that ending!!!! I need more!!! Right now!!! Can't wait for the next book!!
This story has it all! I was immediately captured by the writing, the story sucked me in from the first chapter, the characters won me over, and the romance had me hooked ;). I love how Casey L. Bond created the villains too and how they also had this air of mystery around them to spook you. This whole book was heavy on the mystery element and I was dying to figure anything out. Cannot wait for the second!
