This is an excellent reference work that will help readers make sense of the chronology of the Bible. Ever tried to add up the years of the various kings of Israel and Judah? Wondered when the exodus happened? Was Jesus born in AD 1? These questions and more are answered well in this work.

It takes a lot of labor to make the numbers work. The question, is all that labor reasonable? Are facts fudged? Assumptions made? Data ignored? Steinmann has labored long and hard, and everything fits together. I found his work on how reigns were calculated in the OT, the death year of Herod and the rule of Quirinius of Syria, and the events between Palm Sunday and Easter to be especially helpful.

Get this book, read it, and keep it on your shelf if you ever have questions about how the events of the Bible fit together on a unified timeline.

The author has also done a chronology Bible for the ESV/Crossway that is probably worth checking out too.

A helpful and well-researched chronology.

A great book. The author does a great job backing up his chronology using Scripture, extra-biblical writings (or in some cases pointing out the errors or contradictions in some historical writings like "Antiquities of the Jews"), and archaeology. I would have liked to have seen more archaeological data included in this volume and pictures to help with visualization, but I would definitely recommend this book for anyone interested in the study of biblical chronology.
