The pawn slides forward and Dannie begins another game, one they understand even less than the one they’ve just broken free from. A pattern emerges and it leads them to believe that they–and the people they love–are still in danger.
They receive a present from an unknown sender that propels them into a new spiral of anxiety and confusion. Lieutenant Carlson scrambles to find answers, with the help of an unlikely ally. And as the mystery progresses, Dannie’s mind develops a very clear photograph. One of a bleak future in which none of them will ever be safe again.
The Forgotten Photograph is the third and final chapter of The Forgotten Series. The series must be read in order to make sense, so be sure to check out the first two installments before diving into this epic conclusion.
Julian (they/them/their) is an American author who obsesses about all things spooky and mystery- because life is too short to live in the known. In their free time, Julian is an avid reader. They always set a Goodreads goal. (And most of the time, they attempt to get close to meeting it.) Also, they love binging true crime podcasts and then hiding under the comfort of a cozy blanket afterward.
You can usually find them at home attempting to read- surrounded by their partner and 3 children and the typical chaos that ensues.

While this would be difficult to read as a standalone, I wouldn’t want you to miss out on the first two books, so that is ok. As we see Dannie and their friends beginning to heal from their encounters with Eric, we begin to learn how truly strong these characters are. While Kennedy did a great job introducing us to everyone, it is amazing to watch them change and develop like anyone would after going through as much as they have. I was rooting for them all, both to heal and to move forward with their lives and loves. Thats a sign that I’m truly invested in these characters. I have to admit I wasn’t sure what more there could be after book two. I thought we knew who did it, and why. In typical fashion, those minor unanswered questions seemed insignificant. Until book 3! To discover the why behind the villain, and how victims were actually chosen, kept me enthralled and turning the pages with anticipation. I refuse to give spoilers -so I will simply say you must read this series. I was left wondering a few things about Eric’s family and background. I would have like to hear a bit more about what drove them, especially mom.
Love these characters, I'm going to miss them. This series has been such an amazing saga. Dannie and her friends and loved ones have been thru so much. Just when you thought you knew all the answers, more details unfolded. This is an amazing thriller series with a touch of romance, which, to me, is the perfect mix. The series has delivered, and each book just gets better, and the conclusion is surprising and satisfying. Can not wait to read more from JK. I'm so glad I found this series.
***this was an ARC for me, and this is my honest review***
An EPIC conclusion to The Forgotten Series. While you need to read the first two in order to understand what is happening in Book 3, it is totally worth it. The reader is able to watch the characters and their relationships to each other grow and mature and you cannot help but to cheer them all on. Book 3 shifts from a ‘whodunnit’ to more of a ‘whydunnit’ and the intricate web of players that are involved in this tactical game of ‘chess’ (IYKYK) I would encourage all readers to follow this book through to the end and read the acknowledgments at the end and who our author writes for and with what people she keeps in mind. This story incorporates so many subjects that are on the minds of so many people right now – PTSD, mental health, gender identity, substance addiction and those who support those going through addiction and victims of abuse. The first novel I read by JK, that was what stood out to me the most – the real, imperfect flawed characters with weaknesses that we can all relate to.
What an amazing conclusion to this series! The pieces all came together and I was so surprised by some of the information revealed at the end. I would never have guessed it, and it was so expertly woven together into this big web of storytelling.
Dannie and Ash continue to live in fear of Nick, since Eric is behind bars, but at least they have each other. Rosa and Marco are navigating life for him sober and reconnecting to family with acceptance. Charlie is determined to see things through on the Anderson case, despite her superior officer basically saying it's a closed case and there's nothing more to find.
Everything began to come together in a whirlwind as packages with chess pieces started coming to our characters. Relationships were revealed, and hidden connections uncovered, along with more sinister things as well. I'm so happy to see the end of this resolved in the way it was. So well done!
I can’t believe we’re already at the end of the The Forgotten Series and it didn’t disappoint at all, I loved these character so much and I for one will miss them!
I want to say Dannie and her friends but I feel kind of weird calling them friends, because they have been through so much together, and I just love them all. This book perfectly pulled the story from the beginning together so I highly recommend reading the books in order.
This was an amazing romance/ thriller series and you really get the perfect amount of both. I never would thought I would read a thriller with heart warming moment but this series gave me that multiple times.
Thank you Julian Kennedy for continuing to have me on your arc team
Just like the other two books in the series, I enjoyed the story very much. It’s a good and satisfying conclusion to the series, which makes me extra glad I've read it. The best part of this book is the characters. I rooted for them from beginning to end, loving them all, and even the villains are written so well that it's "fun" to read about.
Thanks to Julian Kennedy for providing a copy in exchange for an honest review. It was a pleasure to read this series :)
This is the final chapter of The Forgotten Series and it did not disappoint. In fact, to be honest, I think this was my favorite of the 3 books. I really enjoyed the leveled up cat and mouse games played, the way the characters came into their own self and together, and the unexpected twists that were dropped. I absolutely fell in love with this band of friends in this series. The psychological thriller series brings you to the edge of your seat but also warms your heart. I am so thankful to this author for allowing me the privilege to enjoy these books! I highly recommend this series!
What a great ending to the Forgotten series! The growth of the characters was raw and real and the suspense kept me wanting more and more. Oh and that twist! It was so not expected. I'm so grateful for the privilege of being on the ARC team for this trilogy 💜
I love how the whole friend group comes together in every crisis and they're always there for one another, no matter what.
I don't want to say much more because I don't want to give anything away. I am going to miss these characters though. I feel attached to pretty much all of them 🥺
Looking for a thriller that's not super scary? Check this trilogy out!
I loved this trilogy. It was nice to read about a nonbinary MC, and I loved reading a thriller (not my usual genre). The authentic nature of this writing style makes you feel like you're invested in one of the most incredible thriller series. I feel like I just finished 3 seasons of a gripping show. I was so very connected to each of the characters in this cast. The found family vibes are so strong that I felt like I was part of it. I love them all, and I had a book hangover for a while after finishing this one.
