They’d better hurry and make their move, before there’s another victim and someone gets away with murder.
This was a fun first entry in a new cozy mystery series set in a castle. Our main character, Kitty, is back with her grandmother for a stay at a castle. Kitty's Nan does entertainment for the castle, and Kitty is there to visit, and help with a new murder mystery dinner series. When an actual murder occurs during the dinner, Kitty gets involved -- along with others at the castle -- in solving it.
The solution to the murder surprised me. I enjoyed the characters, and look forward to reading the next in the series.
This is the first book in the Kitty McCray Cozy Mystery series . Since I like the Bishop's Landing series, I was eager to get started on this new one. Unfortunately, I wasn't captivated by this book. .
Kitty is at Forbisher Castle to visit her Nan, who oversees all of the castle's events. Growing up Kitty was often at the castle so she knows a lot about it and lends a hand when needed. Richard, the owner's son, took over the Castle after his parents, Lord and Lady Forbisher, were killed in an aomobile accident. Richard and Kitty used to hang out when they were younger, so Kitty knows him.
Kitty is going to assist Nan with her murder mystery night at the castle. The murder mystery is about to begin, and the guests have shown up. With their costumes on, the cast is prepared to start the murder mystery. They had no idea that this evening would become a true murder mystery. As soon as the lights go on, one of the guests is found dead, apparently stabbed, lying over his table. Who could have wanted Raymond Haynes dead? As it happens, he wasn't well-liked, so the suspect list is long.
This book seemed very familiar to me like I have seen a movie or read another book with similar plot. It reminded me of the game Clue. "Who killed Mr Haynes in the theater with the knife!" Despite the lengthy number of suspects. It was very obvious who the killer was, before they were even revealed. I was hoping for a twist at the end, but there was none. This book had so many characters that I felt like I needed a score card to keep track of them all. I really wanted to enjoy this series as much as I enjoyed Bishop's Landing, the author's previous work, but unfortunatly I didn't. While I enjoyed Kitty and Richard, I found it difficult to distinguish between the others at times as they all seemed to blend together.
"I received this book as part of an ARC and this review is my own opinion"
Wow! what a start to a new murder mystery series, starring a supoersleuth, her grandmother, her beautiful cat, the hot new owner of the castle a game gone bad and suspects galore! It cant get better than this.. Kitty McCray, having recently finished uni and with no job atm, has gone to Frobisher castle to help out her grandmother, Morag, with her new entertainment idea, a murder mystery game protrayed by the staff while the guests ate dinner. Frobisher castle was familiar to Kitty having spent childhood holidays with her grandmother, and along with the son who was a similar age, adventuring as only children know how to. Even though she hadn't been back for 12 years, it was all still as familiar as ever, and she was excited to share it with her adorable cat, Mittens, her constant companion. From re-aquainting with her childhood playmate, Richard Frobisher, now the owner of the castle to helping set up and prepare for the murder game, Kitty immersed herself totally into her new role. But, when it all turned bad and a real dead body turned up during the game, she had to use all her skills along with Morag, Richard and of course Mittens to catch the killer. Murder, mayhem, a castle, a gorgeous cat, twists and turns galore, this is a real pageturner, exciting and a perfect start to a new series. I have written this honest and personal review voluntarily and wholeheartedly recommend this book.

Kent's ability to craft a compelling storyline with rich backstory ensures that readers will be eagerly awaiting the next installment. A Castle, A Murder Mystery Show, Friends and a real Murder
Murder Mystery at the Castle : A Kitty McCray Cozy Mystery was a really good beginning to a new series. The characters are likable and the cozy mystery kept me guessing. Kitty McCray is visiting her Aunt Nan at the Castle where she works. Kitty is helping Nan with the Murder Mystery Dinner event and also helping with cleaning and serving meals. This makes sleuthing easier! Her old friend Richard is the current owner of the castle and they used to play together when they were young. A corporate group and a newlywed couple are the.guests. One of the members of the corporate group ends up dead during the mystery dinner event. The suspects are primarily the corporate group which helps because there are a lot of members of staff who are involved with the play along with all of the guests. The author does a pretty good job helping the reader with all of the characters but there are still a lot. The book has a good pace and it is a pleasant mystery without suspenseful scenes. The final reveal is interesting with a replay of the night of the death. It is an enjoyable cozy mystery. #MurderMysteryAtTheCastle #AKittyMcCrayCozyMystery
The plot for this story was pretty straightforward: a lady (Kitty) is visiting her grandmother (Nan) at a castle (her childhood vacation spot) and while hosting a whodunnit dinner an actual murder occurs. However, the main reason I’m giving this story 2 stars and not 4 is because of all the punctuation and grammatical errors. Normally these don’t bother me but this story had so MANY of them. The words “inspector” and “major” were rarely capitalized and so many unnecessary commas were used. Really, who was the editor? All these mistakes took my attention away from enjoying the story more which is sad cause this author sounded promising. Unfortunately, if the next books have that many errors then I may have to skip them. After all, why solve a murder when instead one should figure out who’s shoddy on their editing?
Oh how I wanted this to be good! A murder in a castle…..just like a storyline from Murder She Wrote……only this book had so many plot holes…..sooo many characters; it was dizzying!!!! They all started to run together and at times there was no way to keep them all straight. For a small gathering at a castle to be part of a murder mystery; there were so.many.unnecessary.characters! 👏🏻 Hopefully I made my point 😂…..this book could have been written as a short story and been probably pretty good. The whole long drawn out process of finding the knife; the missing shoes, etc….I’m just glad that this one is over with! Side note….I planned on dnf at least five times; but it’s only 270ish pages and they aren’t full pages so I just drudged through…..and get ready to read the word “giggle” about a billion times!!! Everyone giggles….🤷🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️😂
Just what every kid who’d roamed a castle when she was younger could wish for, a job back in said castle with her awesome grandma aka Nan Morag. And it didn’t hurt that Kitty’s childhood friend Richard grew into a handsome adult.
I loved how the inspector finally came around and agreed to a reenactment when the real murder was seeming like it was gonna be impossible to solve. The showdown was great and was Kitty’s moment to shine. I hope Kitty and Richard get a stage where they’d like to date, and I’ve got a feeling that Nan might be interested in the good Major. He was an awesome character, by the way.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book provided by BookSprout, and my opinions are my own.

Kitty McCray is returning to Frobisher Castle as an adult. It was her childhood playground. Now she will be working there to earn her keep. The Castle puts on a dinner murder mystery for their guests and it's entertaining until a real murder occurs. The Inspector latches on to the one person as his prime suspect whom Kitty is sure is innocent. She's determined to find the real killer.
This is a good mystery. It kept me guessing until the very end. The character interactions are well thought out to build the suspense. I received a free copy but my review is honest and voluntary.
Kitty McCray returns to her childhood summer castle home to be with her Nan, as a player in a murder mystery play. When a real murder happens, Kitty, along with castle owner and best childhood friend, Richard and Nan, help out a bumbling, dismissive detective to sort through all the drama.
I just loved this book! Avery Kent writes such fantastic stories! The characters are written well and the story just flows along at a good pace, keeping the clues coming.

Murder at the castle is the first Kitty McCray book. You wouldn’t know from the excellent familiar writing. It’s immersive and a charm. Kitty a new masters graduate is hired to help her Nan , event plan a murder mystery dinner at the Frobisher Castle. But when the murder is revealed to be real , the young amateur sleuth and her spirited nan along with childhood friend and the Castle’s owner Richard coerce the inept detective to take two…. Brilliant start to a great series. Avery Kent never disappoints to come up with a good story. Super descriptive and solid quirky characters. Good backstory too.

Kitty McCray is invited to Frobisher castle by her nan to help put on a murder mystery night for some wealthy American guests. Everything is going swimmingly and Kitty is having fun, then just as the lights go off disaster strikes for when the lights go back on they find a real corpse. Alongside Inspector Haddock Kitty and her cat Mittens attempts to assist Richard Frobisher to uncover the killer in this tense, cosy mystery. Really enjoyed this, I love old castles so what better setting for a murder mystery could I ask for. A lot of fun and great characters. Gratefully received an ARC copy of this.
I really enjoyed this book. I’ve enjoyed many a murder mystery dinner, but, no one has ever been murdered! Here we have a cleverly manoeuvred plot. Kitty McCray is at Frobisher Castle to help her Nan with the entertainment & also do other things, like make the beds. She knows the place really as she has visited a lot in the past. Frobisher Castle has paying guests & Kitty’s Nan is in charge of entertaining them. A group of Americans are staying, a scientific group, but, there is a lot of bad feeling in the group. The dead man was a womaniser whose wife just put up with him. It takes a re-enactment to get the answer.
Murder Mystery at the Castle is book #1 in the Kitty McCray Cozy Mystery series by Avery Kent.
Kitty is back with her Nan after graduating. She’s working at Frobisher Castle where she spent time in her youth. She’s also an actor in a mock murder mystery game to provide entertainment when something goes terribly wrong. I really enjoyed the characters and the setting. There were so many potential suspects with valid motives that I was kept guessing until the end. I recommend this book and look forward to the next book.

Kitty is staying with her Nan at Frobisher Castle, helping with a murder mystery weekend, when the event is spoiled by a real murder! When a staff member comes under suspicion, the puzzle loving Kitty starts to investigate.
This is a fun cosy mystery, no paranormal, just a simple (or not so simple) Miss Marple style murder. With enjoyably cosy vibes, this is an old fashioned kind of mystery, in a rather lovely setting. The cast is fun, and Mittens the cat (though just a normal cat) definitely tries to steal the show.
An entertaining read, this is the perfect Sunday Afternoon cosy mystery read, for armchair sleuths who enjoy their murders on the cosy side.
Kitty, and beloved cat Mittens are spending some time at the castle visiting her grandmother Morag. Kitty is going to act as a maid in a murder mystery show but at last minute the daughter in the play had an emergency and Kitty was promoted to being the daughter.
During a time when the lights were out during the play the man who arranged the retreat was murdered. Kitty is trying to prove the man whom inspector believes to be the killer is innocent. This is an enjoyable read
I received an advance review copy, ARC, for free, and I am leaving an honest opinion and voluntary review
Kitty is visiting her Nan, who works at Frobisher castle managing the events. The plan is for her to help out by pitching in cleaning the rooms and participating in Nan’s Murder Mystery Night play. But when the lights go out in the mystery murder play and Raymond is actually murdered, it’s time ti investigate what happened when the lights went off! With lots of suspects and an interesting re-enactment, can Kitty piece together what happened in the dark? I received a free copy of this book through BookSprout and write this review voluntarily.
At a murder mystery dinner, someone that is not part of the cast is killed when the lights go out. So many suspects, so little time to decipher all the clues to find the killer. This story kept me up way past my bedtime. I enjoyed the characters, especially Kitty and Richard, childhood friends who work together to solve the mystery. I loved the plot, a definite page-turner for me. Looking forward to future books in this series.
I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving this review.
This is a good, fun, and interesting murder mystery. I have to admit though, if someone has to be bumped off, it should be someone who is a bane to society rather than someone kind and decent. The plot is straightforward and easily followed. The characters are interesting and the main character especially clever. Finally the premise is finding out who killed the rapacious American CEO and why. The answers were quite enlightening and of course the attending chief inspector had to choose the easiest route first. I definitely recommend this book.
A lighthearted and entertaining cozy mystery that I enjoyed. I loved how Kitty and her true childhood friend, Richard, the Lord of the Castle, work together to investigate the murder at the castle. Kitty's perceptive mind and determination along with the dog's inquisitive digging are key to solving the mystery.
I read this book as part of an advance reader team and am providing my honest opinion.
Kitty gets a job in a castle turned hotel to take part in an event organised by her Nan. While the event is taking place a CEO who is much hated is murdered. Kitty is determined to protect the hotel's reputation and probes for clues. An entertaining and enthralling mystery which kept me guessing. A well crafted plot with interesting characters.

Kitty McCray goes to visit her nan Moray with her cat Mittens to the castle owned by Lord Frobisher and his son Richard. There was to be a murder mystery night at the castle for entertainment. But suddenly one of the guest Ceo of SyntheticBio Raymond Haynes is murdered . Kitty goes about finding evidence as a amateur sleuth. A intriguing read with a nail-biting finish. I am on the ARC team and leave a honest review. I recommend this book to other readers.
Meet Kitty McCray. She is at Forbisher Castle to visit her Nan and help out. She used to visit the castle when she was younger so it’s a happy place for her. She is taking part in a murder mystery night and on the opening night an actual murder takes place. Kitty, and the castle owner, who she is friends with are determined to solve the case. There are plenty of suspects and clues to track down to solve the case. Enjoy this first mystery in a new series.
What a delightful book! The marvelous writing, including the descriptions of the characters and the castle environs, the dialogue, then the clever Kitty McCrae piecing the various clues together to reach the solution. So many possible suspects, a hint of possible romance in the future, a dog and cat to liven up the story, all contributed to this delightful cozy mystery that I'm more than happy to recommend.
After University, Kitty travels to Frobisher Castle for three reasons: to see her Nan, to help with the unending housework, and to act in the Murder Mystery Night at the castle. On the night of the first play, the lights intentionally go out during dinner and when the lights come back on, one of the guests has been stabbed in the back. Guess who figured out the culprit? This story is fun to read and ends happily. Very highly recommended.
I was completely entertained by this book and would highly recommend it to anyone interested in cozy mysteries. If you never ready a cozy mystery before, Murder Mystery at the Castle by Avery Kent is a great starting point for you. Without a doubt you will be hooked on such mysteries and will look forward to the next book by this author. Go ahead, dive in. Don’t worry there isn’t a moat around this castle to prevent you from being entertained from beginning to end.
Avery Kent writes fun murder mysteries with great characters as in her Bishop’s Landing Series. Here we have the first in the new Kitty McKray Series. It doesn’t disappoint. It’s cleverly written, keeps you guessing. Some solid resident performances, & the guests try their hand at acting too. Entertaining. Enjoyable I received an Advanced Reader Copy from the author, & I am writing a voluntary honest review
This book was about a murder in a castle during a murder mystery play. So many suspects and just like a typical murder mystery the murderer was the last person you would suspect. It was interesting to learn about each of the suspects and their interaction with the victim. It was also fun to see Kitty and her relationship with the owner of the castle. They used to play together as children and now as adults they still enjoy each other's company. Good book.
Good story about a festival that was going to going on in the fields next to the Frobisher Castle. This year they had decided to get 2 bands from America and one local band. The two bands had history with one another that the booking people had no idea about but soon were drawn in the middle of it. Kitty McCray is helping the local police as her boss was accused of murder. Things got heated and it wasn't till the very end that you find out how far someone will go to hide a murder.
