This second book on the Amish by Clara Bernice Miller brings new and fresh insights into the life of the Amish community and church. The author's early experience as a member of an Amish home and of the Amish Church give a sense of realness to the characters and incidents in this work of fiction.

From the small schoolgirl, who loved so much to read, to adulthood, Katie will be loved and appreciated by the reader. She makes her mistakes, but she also knows how to face life situations in the Amish community. Her constant search for the truth about her faith in Christ gives her the strength and wisdom to live this faith among her people.

I absolutely loved this book as a tween/teenager. I bought it on a family trip to Lancaster County, PA and read it so many times that the cover is falling off. I wrote about this book in my college essays. Even though it is about an Amish girl, it is a universal story that I related to deeply. Katie struggles with whether to follow the traditions of her family and community when many of her friends are pushing the boundaries of what is acceptable. I hope I can find a new copy of this so my daughter can read it in a few years.
