RIDE TO HELL AND BACK IN HELLVERINE'S FIRST EVER SOLO SERIES! Because you demanded it - the return of the HELLVERINE! When a DEMONIC FORCE known as BAGRA-GHUL first came to earth, it brought LOGAN and GHOST RIDER together to hunt it before it possessed WOLVERINE. But now, in the present day, what event will put the Hellverine back on the streets…and is he slashing his hellfire claws for good or evil? And, introducing the ALL-NEW HELLFIRE WARRIORS! Don't miss the launch of the all-new series, brought to you by Hellverine co-creator Benjamin Percy (WOLVERINE, GHOST RIDER) and blazing hot talent Julius Ohta (ALIEN, VENOM)!
Benjamin Percy is the author of seven novels -- most recently The Sky Vault (William Morrow) -- three short fiction collections, and a book of essays, Thrill Me, that is widely taught in creative writing classrooms. He writes Wolverine, X-Force, and Ghost Rider for Marvel Comics. His fiction and nonfiction have been published in Esquire (where he is a contributing editor), GQ, Time, Men's Journal, Outside, the Wall Street Journal, Tin House, and the Paris Review. His honors include an NEA fellowship, the Whiting Writer's Award, the Plimpton Prize, two Pushcart Prizes, the iHeart Radio Award for Best Scripted Podcast, and inclusion in Best American Short Stories and Best American Comics.
Bagra-Ghul is back...and a new Hellverine (H) is born! H is a combination of Ghost Rider (GR) and Wolverine (W) - a character that is almost symbiotically attracted by the fatalistic viewpoint of both characters. This issue sets up the issues that follow; if you are not up to speed on this character this book will get you there.
After reading the 1st issue I was not impressed. However, the last panel peaked my interest and I will read issue #2 despite the mid-ness of issue #1. I hated this storyline in Ghost Rider. It was unoriginal and, as Wade Wison says, lazy writing. The artwork of Julius Ohta is impressive and the only reason this comic got 3 stars. I hope the story pans out.
It’s such a strong start! I only wish the series had kept up this level of intrigue, after issue #6 I kind of lost interest… I’m going back to reread it though, and I really enjoyed this first issue. Raffaele Ienco’s art is superb. The full page spread that summarizes the events leading up to this series is so good, A+ repiping.
A Goodreads librarian has messed up this entry. The "edition" published on May 29th 2024 is not the same book that was published on December 18th 2024. Marvel Editorial was too (insert insult) to bother giving the 2nd series a discrete title.
This entry is suppose to represent the Hellverine series (written by Benjamin Pery and illustrated by Julius Ohta) that ran through the spring and summer of 2024.
Another Hellverine series has started at the end of 2024 (same writer, illustrated by Raffaele Ienco), and *that* issue #1 has been lumped into this entry. Same writer, different artist, very different story.
After the problems I had trying to get editors to leave the spelling of my name alone, I don't have the patience to try to convince someone to fix this.

December 2024 series: 2 stars. Ugh, I weary of explainers. 9 pages of recap off the top is bad form, and clunked even more after reading Daken's meeting with Strange. The recap could (should?) have been written into their meeting as flashback.
