Easy as Falling

His sole job as a Guardian is to guide his charge to the best of his ability. If he’s seeing glimpses of a life where he seems to have formed a lovely relationship with his charge, it must be some kind of mistake.

Jack knows there’s something wrong with Michael. For some reason, it seems his guardian angel doesn’t remember who he is. Then again, Michael has been breaking all of heaven’s rules for years now; this had to be him finally paying the price.

Jack doesn’t want to lose his angel, but he doesn’t know what to do, and while the Guardian can’t remember, he can’t seem to shake off this strange ache of something missing.

As it turns out, when it comes to matters of the heart, there's not a power in heaven or on earth that can interfere.

Although the opening chapters were a bit confusing to follow and I wish we had gotten more information on the rules and inner workings of heaven, I ate this novella right up.

But I want more! More about those Fallen Angels!!! More about the guardian angel rulebook! More about the archangels! More about these past lives!!!!!

I love Jack and Michael. I’d never once considered the sheer perfection in a childhood friends-to-lovers dynamic between a boy and his guardian angel created just for him but I am forever changed.

I love what Oniomoh did with these angels and the concepts surrounding alternate timelines and reincarnation to create the epitome of soulmates.

If Viano Oniomoh writes it, I will be there to read it.

CW: explicit sexual content, blasphemy, violence, dying loved one (brief), magical torture, attempted murder, reference to dead parent

I really enjoyed this super short and steamy guardian angel/human MM romance and I love Oniomoh’s writing. That being said (and I never say this, like ever), I wanted this to be longer. There was so much to build out and so much to take in and the world is so cool and the story is so unique that I wanted more. This could’ve been a full 350 page novel and I would have been so ok with that. So that’s my criticism: make it longer. Give me more.

as a guardian, michael’s sole job is to guide his charge, jack, to the best of his ability. this job grows increasingly harder, though, as he finds himself bending or even breaking the rules for jack and, admittedly, begins falling for him.

this was my first read from viano oniomoh, and it did not disappoint! i love a good forbidden romance, and there was palpable angst between these two. they both denied their feelings for so long—michael especially, because of the rules—but even when they finally gave in, the hard part wasn’t over. still, this was such a sweet love story. i’m looking forward to reading more novels and novellas by viano oniomoh in the future!

Falling for Oniomoh

When I tell you I love everything she pens, I mean it!! She writes the sweetest boys ever and I love that for me! She could have done so much with this, pulled the conflict out but I think like me, Oniomoh’s characters subscribed to the belief that just because I have powers doesn’t mean I need to be a hero. So while there could have been more it was perfect just as it was. The beginning was so heartbreaking I almost couldn’t stand it once I realized what was going on. This is an easy, quick, and sweet read. I love her angels as much as I love her demons.

Heartachingly romantic and sweet, with characters I would kill and/or die for. The switches between past and present didn't read as confusing to me, and I loved the glimpses we saw of other fallen angels and the workings of heaven.

4/5

Ebook

Summary: Guardian angel, Michael, and his charge, Jack, become close and fall in love, despite all the rules prohibiting it.

Stats: Fantasy CR, M/M (bi MC/unlabeled MC), open door, stand alone novella.

Notes: This should not have been a novella. I enjoyed it well enough, but the style choice at the beginning to jump hither and yon in the narrative just didn’t work for me in such a short format. I needed more - more building, more character, more time spent in the plot. I really enjoy Oniomoh’s writing, I like the characters, I just want more space for the stories to play out and develop.

This might be one of the most beautiful love stories I have ever read. It was only 112 pages and it had my heart in his hand the whole time. I will reread and recommend this a million times!

This was a lovely novella about a guardian angel and his charge falling in love. As with the other book I've read by this author, Sweet Vengeance, I didn't fully grasp the world building and why certain actions and decisions mattered. The concept of an angel falling from grace and fallen angels, for example, apparently had very specific contexts different from other stories about angels; however, that was never clearly explained. Same with Jack's significance to the war between archangels and fallen angels; was he still in danger by the end of the book? Unclear to me.

As with "Sweet Vengeance", I enjoyed the connection between the two main characters, but the rest of the story could have used a bit more flashing out, or since it is a novella, just less world building. Still, it was a fun time and the steamy scenes were interesting from an anatomical standpoint.

An easy, quick, soft read about an angelic Guardian & his charge

An easy and, at just over 110 pages, fast read about an angelic Guardian and his charge. I really liked this twist on the amnesia trope and that Oniomoh unexpectedly delivered a fun twist to the childhood friends-to-lovers trope. Moreover, Oniomoh’s writing did a nice job of conveying Michael’s sense of confusion and unease early in the story.

My only complaint, really, is that the Fallen rebellion plot thread was not only unnecessary but distracting, like it belongs in a different book altogether. It also didn’t fit with the rest of the book tonally.

I’m always a fan of angel love interests, and this hit the spot nicely. I’m looking forward to reading more by Oniomoh

CW: death of a parent, adoption system,

🌟 Fantasy romance
🌟 Angel x Human

🌈 Black MCs
🌈 Bi MMC
🌈 Achillean romance

🌶 Magical 🍆

This was such a good novella, but I was so confused in the beginning to how the heaven/angel/charge dynamic worked. Obviously you have the angel and charge which is self explanatory, but the archangels and protocol etc meant I spent the first while just praying I picked up what was happening soon.

Once that was all fine and good, I decided archangels are the worst. I know heaven must have rules, but please just let these men be in love and live their best lives 😭 Not homophobia, just guardian angel rules.

I am genuinely wondering if Viano Oniomoh can even write anything bad. I think it might be impossible from what I have seen so far. This story is short and oh so sweet. It's chockful of emotion and never-ending sweetness. This may be a super short and quick read, but it's very well developed, and the characters have plenty of depth. It hooked me from the start, and it was easy to stay invested for 112 pages. If you're looking for a nice little queer treat, this is perfect for that.

Viano never fails when it comes to finding the perfect balance of sweet and spicy. I adored Jack and Michael- childhood friends to lovers but make it with a guardian angle and their charge?? I love it!!

I would have gladly read 200 more pages of this story- in fact, I wanted to know more about the rebel Fallen angels! That seems like a very promising concept and storyline.

short and sweet

This was short but had lot of sweet tender moments. The romance is a nice slow burn and being low on the smut but the smut was still steamy. I really enjoyed the authors writing style and creativity. Also really cool to see a book that is set in Nigeria because personally I don’t see that a lot. Love all of the diversity that’s in this book!

The concept of the story has a lot of potential and I love the tension and chemistry between the characters. However, the execution was a bit lacking. I was particularly thrown off a bit by the workd building, there is a lot there that needs to be revised and fleshed out in some way to make more sense to the reader. A really great story though.

I adore Viano’s writing. She’s wonderfully creative and unique. And I’m always looking for monster/PNR romance set outside of western countries. Boom! A guardian angel/ward romance set in Nigeria + a queer MC + non linear timeline had me sold. And it was delightful.

Non-linear timelines only work for me in very specific scenarios and this WORKED for me. Mostly because the way Viano set up the chapters to be in the present for one chapter and then in the past for one was really seamless and flowed perfectly. We bounce backward to a scene that gives us more context for the present (and in my opinion, I think it made the current timeline more impactful). Plus, our darling Guardian has archangel induced amnesia for crossing the line with his ward so it made sense to have this confused chapter juxtaposed with a flashback chapter.

I did wish we dug a little more into the whole fallen angel vs. archangel war but I’m hoping we see more of this world because I loved it. Highly recommend!

CW: human MC is an orphan and spends time in an orphanage during childhood, mild violence (non graphic bodily harm threatened), amnesia

How about a full-length novel of Jack and Michael? Because they were giving me heavy Destiel vibes and I'd love more.

Sweet and tender romance. My only critique would have to be that the world building was a bit ambitious for such a short story.

An interesting setup and I was pulled in right away - I thought the question of privacy was handled well and really felt the tension building between the 2 MCs.
