This story kicks it into high gear from the moment I opened the covers and it never really let off until I closed them again. Amber and Hunter are prime examples of “lust at first sight.” But, as they get to know one another better and work to cleanse her family’s land of the evil festering there, that instant chemistry develops into something much deeper. I loved these two together. I particularly liked that Amber was such a strong, capable individual, and that even though Hunter worried for her safety, he trusted her. I’m kind of adoring the way this world is getting bigger and more complex. I can’t wait to discover what the author has in store for us next. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author.
The Spartan Elite series is another spinoff from the Veterans of Valhalla and Spartan Watchman series. These books are military romantic suspense with members that were former elite military men. The story takes place in Colorado.
Amber Ross has returned to her grandparent's land in Colorado for a quiet vacation. Her cousin has turned a small area into a high-class glamping experience. Amber is an investigative journalist featuring documentaries on crime and the underworld.
Former Navy SEAL, Logan 'Hunter' Wright, now of Spartan Elite, needs some downtime and contacts his friend, Cameron, who sets him up in one of Lauren's glamping tents. Hunter wants a private getaway--and Cameron didn't know that Lauren had also booked her cousin, Amber.
What a surprise to both Hunter and Amber when she walks in on him changing clothes. They handle things well, have a nice gourmet dinner together, and both feel the desire--and have, what they agree to, a one-night-stand.
"They were two strangers with worlds of experience behind them, finding an unexpected connection amid their respective solitudes."
The story will have both Amber and Hunter needing downtime, and being together by freak chance, but there is chemistry between them. Hunter knows of Amber by her documentaries and has respect for her. On an early morning walk, Amber will come across a group of men, one cartel, and one a motorcycle club, discussing the distribution of drugs. She manages to record a video and then barely makes it away. She will bring Hunter in on what happened, and he will enlist the help of his people. The story takes on life and death danger of good versus evil. It will also bring Amber and Hunter to realize and accept that their one night was not enough, and that the chemistry is more than just intimacy.
Hunter: I've lived my life believing soulmates were just a myth--a fairy tale. But then there's you, and everything I thought I knew just--falls away. You make me believe. Amber: But is belief enough? Can we really find happiness when everything else is trying to pull us apart? Hunter: Listen to me. Before you, my world was tactics and threats. But you've shown me there's more to fight for (more) than just survival. You're my more, Amber. My reason. Amber: I never believed I needed a man. I still don't. I was able to escape on my own, but--I realized something. I don't need a man. I want a man. I want you. I want you to want me back just as much. Hunter: Chaos is just a background noise. We'll write our own story amidst it. If your filming takes you to the ends of the earth, I'll be there, waiting, or right beside you when I can. Spartan Elite is my duty, but you--You're my choice. I choose you, every da** time.
I liked the story of Amber and Hunter and it is full of action, adventure, angst, and passion that kept the pages turning. I read this story in Kindle Unlimited and it could stand to be better edited, but other than that, it was a good solid story. I'm looking forward to reading Ghost's story next.
My first book by this author and to be honest I wasn’t impressed. Quite a few dramatical errors which were so obvious it wasn’t funny. Their one night stand was a bit too quick and the entire book was too short, although I usually like relatively short and to the point books. A hit and miss for me I’m sorry to say 3⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is book one in the Spartan Elite series. It is full of secrets, lies, hope, drama, and new choices to make. The storyline is intense and succinct. It weaves its way through your senses and you cannot put it down. Character development is such that you know these people and enjoy them. Some characters are new and some are from the author's other series. Hunter is a Navy Seal who now works for Spartan Elite and Amber is a photojournalist who is always working. They are perfect for each other because they understand the danger involved in their work. Drug dealers and human traffickers are determined to use Amber's grandparents land for their purposes. Can Hunter and Amber stay ahead of them and bring them down? Can the danger tear apart a relationship they never knew they could have? This author can make her reader fall into a story to the point that they cannot put in down. The visuals are strong and the words even strong. Job well done. I loved it.
"Hunter" by RJ Gray captivates the heart from the very first page. I love the fearless Amber Ross, an investigative journalist. She is fierce and independent.
Hunter is my newest book boyfriend. He has a dominant personality but not overbearing.
What sets "Hunter" apart from other books I've read is its seamless blend of heart-pounding suspense and sizzling chemistry. The book is a fast paced winner.
Amber's resilience and Hunter's strength leap off the pages. From pulse-pounding action sequences to tender moments of intimacy, RJ gray is a master of emotional development.
"Hunter" is a short book, easily devoured in one sitting. Sometimes, I wish RJ would write longer books, but then we wouldn't get as many as we do from her.
This is a must read novel and I can't wait to read Ghost. Great start to a new series!
Hunter is the first book in the Spartan Elite series and it's stellar. It's interconnected with RJ Gray's Veterans of Valhalla and Spartan Watchman MC series. I need a Hunter in my life; former SEAL who hasn't lost a step physically or mentally, boits on the ground CEO, gorgeous and a protector through and through. I also was captivated by Amber Ross. She's one gutsy woman who ventures out into the seediest of places to ferret out and relate human suffering and injustice. She's developed a savvy about the nefarious and skills to keep her safe (mostly.) Together, these two become a dynamic duo in the field and white hot in their personal space. Keeping her family and the small community safe from an outlaw MC gang and a drug cartel's intention to traffic drugs embroils Amber, Hunter and others in an all out war.
Hunter is a former Navy Seal , who now works for The Spartan Elite. Amber Ross has a popular crime docuseries about the crime syndicate (:against underaged victims. Lauren is Amber’s cousin.
Hunter and Amber meet at Amber’s family’s glamping land. Their attraction and chemistry is off the charts ( even though they won’t acknowledge it). They both have dangerous careers Amber with her crime docuseries . Hunter with his work for Spartan Elite to fight evil (Cartel, gangs, MC Clubs etc.). Amber becomes a target because of her docuseries that brings awareness to the evil of the world. Can Hunter and Amber resolve the threat and have a Happily Ever After?
This both is grabbing from the beginning with nonstop action, suspense and danger.
This is the first book in a new spinoff series from the author, still set in the same world as Veterans of Valhalla and still with former military as the heroes, Hunter makes a great entry point. It's not an overly long book, taking a couple of hours to get through, but it is action all the way with barely any time to draw breath. With so much happening through most of the story, I loved that it took the time to emphasise the length of time Hunter and Amber spent talking and get to know each other. The interaction between everyone flows well and the story ties in well with the Valhalla books. While the ending is unusual and not the normal HEA, I loved that it demonstrates that successful relationships come in all shapes and sizes and that it's the commitment that matters.
Amber is a documentarian and Hunter the leader of Spartan Elite. They meet when they're both glamping, trying to get some down time from their individual high pressure jobs. There's an immediate attraction and they both agree to a one night only encounter. But of course neither wants it to end after one night, and when Amber stumbles over a possible drug deal, there is a mystery afoot. I loved how strong and resilient Amber is, she didn't need a man, but she eventually decides she'd love to choose one. These two both realize they have unique jobs and are addicted to the work they do. But they work to figure out how they can make their relationship work. The suspense part of the story was good, but somewhat predictable. Great story with HEA.
RJ Gray has written the most creative and compelling romance entitled HUNTER. Hunter, the male lead, is a part of an elite group of ex special forces operators who travels the world fighting evil that governmental entities can't. Similarly, the female lead fights evil by exposing it in the video documentaries she produces. They meet when each is on a much needed vacation. But then evil finds them and they must work together to try to survive the great that is focused on their elimination. The question is, will their combined talents be enough? If you want some suspense in a wonderful romance then HUNTER should be your next novel purchase! 😉
Non-stop action from the first chapter. Hunter and Amber, one kick-ass couple, each in their own field of expertise. It's about the people around you, they are most important, and also teamwork. This story shows the teamwork between the brothers and friends. I really loved Hunter's "all-in" attitude, and her for being his "reason" and the description of chaos. They truly are an unbreakable couple. Saw a lot of Ghost in this book as well, can't wait for his story.
Fast pace action, strong characters and a heck of a ride. That's what author RJ Gray gives us with Hunter. The first book in her new spin off series, this story will totally engage you and you won't want to put the book down. Amber and Hunter are both strong characters but when Amber stumbles onto something she shouldn't, she turns to Hunter for help! The banter between these two was awesome, the story easy to read and understand and side characters who are begging for their own story! (Ghost) I can't wait for more in this world.
Amber, a docujournalist shining light on evil in the world, mistakenly walks into Hunter’s tent while on a brief getaway from her world. Hunter’s call in life is to take out the evil that’s hiding in the corners of the world. A one-night stand, a witnessed cartel interaction, and their two world collide. Not a very long read but one full of tension. It’s refreshing to see two protagonists who don’t need a SO to be complete but instead choose each other—equally strong and independent, yet a safe place for the other to rest. Some editing issues.
This is a great first book for this new series about the Spartan Elite. I love the whole world RJ has created around Grand Ridge. Amber is very independent and adventurous. Her first night with Hunter is exactly what she needs. I love the way they act on their feelings right from the start. They both think one night will be enough until they get thrown into danger together. Hotness and adventure abound! I'm looking forward to the next Spartan Elite story.
I loved the Veterans of Valhalla series, and I was so excited for the spinoff Spartan Elite!
Hunter & Amber fight the same fight, just in different ways. I loved the list at first sight. You could feel the tension between them.
This story was action-packed. Loved seeing Hunter & Amber fall in love in the midst of all the chaos. I especially loved the ending. I absolutely loved everything about it!
Hunter and Amber's story is a compelling start to the new Spartan Elite series. I was very excited when see this series was announced and it didn't disappoint. It is a military, one- night stand romantic suspense. It has lots of action and steam. I love the immediate attraction between these two. The suspense was great and kept my attention even when a bit predictable. I can't wait for the other adventures of this series
This author desperately needs a good editor. Typos, grammar mistakes, etc. spoiled what could have been a good story. Simple things like referring to a female character as "he"; duplicating the same phrase in a sentence - one right after the other. Many more mistakes! These could easily be caught by a good editor - or even a proofreader. Very sloppy. I can not recommend this book.
Wow Amber and Hunters story is non stop action from start to finish. When Amber accidentally steps into the wrong Glampimg tent all bets are off. She meets Hunter and the sparks begin to fly. When she stumbles upon a drug cartel setting up shop on her families land she immediately turns to Hunter for help. It’s a wonderful read how their budding relationship and clash with the cartel all workout . Can’t wait for Ghost!
This book starts with a bang and continues straight to the end. Hunter and Amber meet and have what they think will be a one-night stand. They both have an intense lifestyle, shining the light into the darkness of humanity. Amber uses a camera, but Hunter uses a gun. I loved the fast pace and the visit with characters from previous books. I enjoy the strong-willed characters that the author writes, and I enjoyed the story's ending. I'm looking forward to more books in this new series.
Non-stop danger and action mix with strong characters with undeniable attraction and chemistry between them in this well written, exhilarating and extremely intense fast paced page-turner, taking you on one heck of a ride where it is a toss up whether the characters or the plot takes your breath away the most.
This story is about two strong people who have chosen to fight the ugly situations in the world, one with words and the other through more direct means. The worlds collide and the attraction was palpable. Loved the book but the ending left me wanting more and not in a good way. Great writing otherwise.
Oh, RJ Gray, this Hunter: A One Night Stand, Military Romantic Suspense (Spartan Elite Book 1) gave me suspense in massive amounts and details but also made my heart flutter at the love found!!
A heady rush of heart stopping action and the hope that love brings, even in the midst of danger and darkness. A tale well written and well worth reading!
3⭐️ I’m giving it a three because it was not great, but didn’t completely suck either. There were moments where I rolled my eyes, but overall an okay read with the whole ex military and minimal suspense aspect.
Fabulous start to a New series! Hunter and Amber’s story pulls you right in with lots of action involving the cartel, a motorcycle gang and the Spartan Elite security group.
I haven't read any of Ms. Gray's books prior to reading Hunter. I think I would have gotten more out of this book if I had. There was a lot of suspense and a great love story. I give it 4.5 stars.
hmm... i am not impressed by the book. it felt rather superficial to me. characters having sex right at the first chapter is not something i like. then some descriptions felt rather detailed when it doesn't have to and things that should have been more detailed wasn't. additionally, 3 persons trying to take down some cartel was unrealistic plus the search and rescue was kind of short and clear cut which makes me think like "it's that easy???". also, the heroine reminds me of the journalist from the show "Trafficked with Mariana Van Zeller". if you'll have watched the show, you will know what i'm talking about.
From her walking into the wrong tent until the very end you will not want to put this book down. I loved both characters. They were strong and independent but worked hard to be together.
