Only 261 pages and I STILL STRUGGLED to avoid DNF. I so badly wanted to like this book after all the ads I saw on tik tok and instagram promoting it but I could not. The entire book just randomly jumped around, there was absolutely no explanation of anything going on AND it was as if the author just wrote what they were thinking in that moment and the next sentence was a completely different thought. The spice was decent, but that was about the only plus side of this book.

The base of the story is good, but it felt like there were a lot of jumps in the story, and not enough details explaining things. Example: It was never made clear that Iris had been fired, she just disappeared until she popped back up working for Lana.
I wish we got more information about Theo, and his background and why he is the way he is.
Also left wondering about the boy in Thea’s class.
There is decent spice, but again, seems jagged and lacked some details to help it all flow better.

Summary: A young woman looses her chef job, and a mysterious man hires her to be his nanny. She finds out that he is one of these most powerful men in the world, and falls in love with him.

I really enjoyed this book! The beginning when the romance is fresh is so consuming!

(thank you inkitt for sending me this book!)

*cracks knuckles* okay, where do I even begin?

The plot was promising (a young woman nannies the daughter of a very mysterious & wealthy man, and they fall in love) and I was hooked for the first few chapters. Unfortunately, this story didn’t live up to my expectations.

I do take into consideration that the author is probably young, and I think this book is their first work, but the writing could use some improvement. Sometimes, I found it hard to understand who was talking, and I found some of the dialogue kind of unnecessary. I noted some incoherences throughout the story (apparently, the woman saw the man wearing something other than a suit “for the first time” twice) and it felt like the plot was all over the place. I think the author had a lot of ideas, but it might have been better to choose just some of them and develop them a bit more, rather than throwing everything out there. It was just a bunch of scenes put together, so it felt like a lot was going on, but at the same time nothing at all.

The relationship was rushed, it seemed like they fell in love in five seconds without talking to each other, when I was expecting a slow burn. The man had apparently been in love with her for years, but I didn’t understand his behavior when she arrived. He barely talked to her and was almost rude, but wanted to have some ✨fun✨ with her right away??? The spice was decent, it wasn’t exceptionally good but it was okay, even though sometimes the spicy scenes appeared out of nowhere. The relationship build-up wasn’t enough for me to see the romantic feelings between them. They say they’re “in love” but I genuinely didn’t see the relationship evolve. Aside from all that, I liked the little girl, she was cute!

Overall, I think the foundations of the story are here, but there’s definitely room for improvement.

Worse than a Wattpad story if you can imagine that.

If you need a reason NOT to download Galatea this is it. This book was basically glorified OC fanfic with A 36 hour wait timer after every 500 word chapter.

The story was ill explained. The author jumpsd around a lot. I thought trying a nanny trope novel would be a nice little change of pace, however both the novel and the platform left much to the imagination.

I liked that the romance started almost immediately, but the narration was horrible. I started by reading it and ended with the audiobook. There were times I thought of DNF, but I am peculiar, and I do believe I cannot have a proper review without reading/listening to at least the first book of this series. It was good until chapter 16/17, then it got worse.

There were some pieces of the story that didn’t seem to fit in well or seemed important and then the book ended without any explanation. I did enjoy the storyline which can sometimes fall short or basically be non-existent in romance books. The spice was 🔥.

For me it’s really 3.5 stars. A modern romance novel with room temp drama and a gluttony of spicy scenes.

The quantity makes up for the quality. I’m a new adult Romantasy reader personally and realized while consuming this book why there are infrequent 🌶️ scenes in the other books I love. Writing novels where there are different species and powers makes those scenes more intimate and much harder to figure out.

So this contemporary romance was easy to create but also didn’t have the details I’d hope.

Read this cuase of a discord recommendation.

It was good. I finished it in a day. The perfect light read romance without epic drama.

But reading this made me want the drama. Made me want suspense. And greater angst.

I used to think Chinese and Korean dramas maddening with so many tropes and dangerous drama. Now I know it’s addictive and delightful.

This book is 4 stars as a palette cleanser. But 3.5 stars for character and story development. Lots of assumptions. Very little on her deal and history together. She got to use Instagram when her phone was taken away and she was cut off from everyone?

Some editing is required before it gets printed for sure.

I caught a few repetitive and contrary elements.

Her birthday bracelet? Never referenced.

Some quotes super unclear of who was saying it.

But again, I finished it. It was good enough.

I look forward to more work from this author. This felt like a first-ish draft of a potentially amazing book. I’m sure there were many revisions, again good book, but I think the author has more potential that what I finished.

Fate works in a way that most don’t expect she brings these two together. Theodore sexy as all get out one of the most powerful men most don’t know who he really is, where to find him, where he lives, so basically a nobody and a rumored power to the world. Jasmine is a sweetheart worked as a chef making great money loved her job until the head manger demanded certain favors in return for her job otherwise he would fire her so instead of giving in to his demands she quit which further angered him and he made sure she couldn’t a job anywhere leaving her in an impossible position now her landlord is threating to put her out on the street if she doesn’t pay what is owed, no food and nothing promising or so it may seem until she got a mysterious phone call with an unbelievable offer one she can’t refuse. So with no details about the job until she signs the contract to take care of a child but it was such a confidential job that she couldn’t bring anything from her old life with her including her phone but the plus side the job pays 1 million dollars besides she need the money and it will give her the savings she need to carry her long after the job is finished. Upon arriving at her new job what she can expect, is the job everything Ms. Iris explained, will her suspicions get the best of her making her want out of the signed contract, and where is this world wind, secretive job headed?

The only character that actually had a personality was Thea. TikTok got me again…I was lured in by an out-of-context scene. I read this on Galatea, It took forever to unlock chapters…I debated buying the book from Amazon and I’m glad I didn’t. I started to lose interest once Jasmine became Madam Miele of Miele Place. It was so fucking random and had me rolling my eyes 🙄

The spice was mediocre at best…the story would jump randomly. I didn’t even like Theodore, he was such a shitty dad and wasn’t much better as a boyfriend.

Also, I hate Galatea, it sucks.

this was so fucking bad. the app i read it on only let you read ONE CHAPTER EVERY 36 HOURS UNLESS YOU WANTED TO PAY FOURTY BRITISH POUNDS and it was shit anyway. The woman acted like a child, the man was a miserable fuck, and the kid acted like a 60 year old woman who’s experienced every possible thing in life. I would literally give it 0 if i could. SHIT. Made me suicidal, and anyone who reads this is actually not okay in the head. AND THERES 9 MORE BOOKS? WHO IS READING THAT MUCH OF THIS CRAP SERIES I COULD BARELY READ A CHAPTER

This was probably the most stupidest thing I’ve ever read. It was so cringey and just fkn stupid. I did finish it through coz I just wanted to know what happens and there were some good parts in there that I loved but it was literally the shittiest writing ever, and there was like no storyline, he has no personality and they were together within the first 70 pages. I just don’t even know how to explain how it started.
Anywayyyyyyy

I read this book as I saw a lot of advertisements for it on Tik Tok….waste of time. The writing is all over the place… jumping around and hard to follow when mixed with the horrible sentence structure. Each sentence reads like an incomplete thought before jumping to something unrelated. Forced myself through this book as it was less than 300 pages. Not worth reading.

Started out as a pretty good, easy, fun read. Somewhere in the second half the writing got terrible. I don’t know if AI took over or what. Tenses were changing, sentences turn stupid. Started reading like “see spot run”

When the Night Falls is a dark, steamy billionaire romance that delves into themes of power, secrecy, and emotional vulnerability. The story follows Jasmine Gibson, a young woman facing financial hardship, who accepts a mysterious and lucrative job offer to care for a wealthy man’s child. This decision thrusts her into the enigmatic world of Theodore Jefferson, a powerful figure shrouded in mystery.

Jasmine’s life takes a dramatic turn when she’s offered a million-dollar position as a live-in nanny for Theodore’s daughter. The job comes with strict conditions: she must sever all outside contacts and reside in an undisclosed location. As Jasmine navigates her new environment, she becomes entangled in a complex relationship with Theodore, marked by intense attraction and underlying tension.

Jasmine is portrayed as resilient and adaptive, confronting the challenges of her new role with determination. Theodore, on the other hand, is depicted as a dominant and secretive figure, whose interactions with Jasmine oscillate between protective and controlling. Their relationship evolves amidst a backdrop of secrecy and emotional complexity.

The male main character’s unwavering devotion to Jasmine completely captivated me—his seriousness and emotional depth brought a refreshing intensity to the romance. The love he showed wasn’t just about passion; it was about presence, protection, and true commitment, which made their connection feel all the more authentic.

His daughter was an absolute delight—sweet, innocent, and full of charm. She added a beautiful softness to the story and grounded many of the emotional moments with her presence.

Final Thoughts

When the Night Falls offers a compelling exploration of a high-stakes romance, enriched by its dark and mysterious tone. While it has areas that could be refined, the novel provides an engaging read for fans of intense, emotionally charged romances. That said, I do think the book could’ve been stronger with slightly fewer chapters—there was a bit of repetitiveness in the intimate scenes that, while steamy, sometimes slowed the emotional momentum.

If i could give zero star, i would have! The story was all over the place, no plot and no character development whatsoever. The writing was also so cringe, it felt like some highschooler wrote it…

Reading this was like brainrot, the back and forth communication between characters sounded so unnatural. Like “im healthy, how is your health?”, who actually says that? Also the author mentioned about a tattoo of a ‘thunder’, thunder is a sound, you can’t tattoo a sound. Does she mean ‘lightning’ instead?

The author also uses terms like ‘juices’ so many times it got annoying and gross. Please use proper terms instead or dont use it at all.

One last thing. In some speech exchanges between characters, the ‘lol’ has been used several times. Nobody actually says the word ‘lol’ when talking to someone, this is not high school texting.

This book was so infuriating to read, i gave up after 35 chapters. There are MANY books that are of better use of my/anyone’s time. Please save yourself time by avoiding this ‘book’.

Basic concept is good; however, this book was really hard to get through. Motivation to finish became solely about the money I spent buying the physical copy.

There are multiple inconsistencies throughout the story including Jasmine’s teaching role at the school and the fact that Thea goes from calling Theodore ‘papa’ in part one to ‘dad’ in part two. Some things that happen are just too unbelievable and force the reader out of the story. The passage of time was problematic at points as it was skipping ahead a lot in part one but also lacked real indicators of time passing in book two; and these were inconsistent with the described behaviours of the infant. There are also clear elements that have been left incomplete even though the books are supposed to be finished.

Finally, the book desperately needs editing for typos as well as layout problems.

The idea is there but the execution isn’t.
The author jumps from one scene to the next without a smooth transition.
A lot of steamy scenes ( I’m the type of reader that really enjoys them and don’t care how many are there) but in this book they are booooooring and repetitive with 0 addition to the plot.
The MMC DOES’T talk, and when he does it’s to say one word “hum” 🙂….. too much for keeping him mysterious. We never know what he thinks or how he feels. We know more about secondary characters then we do about him. And they talk 90% more than he does throughout the book.
The plot is non existent.
We have no backstories that can help us get attached to the main characters. What a shame !

I was dying to read this book from the all the Instagram posts I have been seeing. Bought the book from Amazon and I am soo disappointed. The book jumps around and gives NO background info. Sooo many question left unanswered throughout the book. It felt as if the writer wrote down whatever she was feeling or thinking at the moment…nothing made sense. Reluctantly started the next book but I’m sure I will DNF. This 100% could have been an amazing book..

i read this on galatea since it is free on the app and i really enjoyed it. it has been a little while since i finished the book but from what i remember, it is a slow burn between theo and jasmine and i enjoyed it very much. i was not able to finish the series since the second book was not free apart from the first 2 chapters which was upsetting. Not sure if I will order the second book but I am still curious about things that were not cleared out in the first book so we will have to see!
