When it's a debra Webb Book. I'm always excited to read. For me, her books are always fascinating Intriguing just the best.
The Colby Agency have a mission to complete to bring home one of their own just in time for christmas. 🎄
What did I like about this book everything. The beginning really pulled me in saving a santa. Then a phone call comes, and it's time to save one of the colbys.
The Colby Agency, a favorite series of mine from Debra Webb, is well represented by the new series featuring “The Next Generation.” This is book one of that series and I really enjoyed getting to know the young people who have inherited their grandmother’s intelligence and wise ways with solving crimes. In this book, Jamie Colby is tasked with rescuing her brother Luke from kidnappers and her colleague at her current workplace, Kendrick Poe, joins her in her quest. Victoria and Lucas Colby are at the headquarters, anxious to resolve the situation but only part of the background investigation. Nevertheless, I was happy to see them in this story, too. The task that Jamie has to complete in order to free Luke seems impossible, but Jamie is up for the challenge. I enjoyed the fast pace, the rich mansions that the story was set in, and the fact that Jamie was compassionate about the people with whom she had to interact in order to get Luke released. The character of Abi, the man pulling Jamie’s strings and giving her directions from his mysterious boss, was intriguing, particularly since he hinted at a previous relationship with Jamie. There is a little romance and a lot of suspense in this story, so readers should be prepared for the unexpected as the twists come fast and furious once Jamie starts working out her own plan. I am looking forward already to more books in this series and more insight into the younger generation of Colbys and how they take on seemingly impossible missions and make them possible. This is the first book I've read of the Colby Agency. It read great as a stand alone, but it was so good I am going to read the series that started it all. It's fast paced, and like all of Debra Webb's books, grabs you within the first few pages.
Jamie Colby is an agent finishing up a mission with her partner, Kenny Poe. She receives a phone call from her grandma that Jamie's brother, Luke has been kidnapped. The kidnappers are holding Luke hostage because they need Jamie's skills. Will Jamie do what the kidnappers want and get Luke home for Christmas?
This book was full of twists and turns. A quick read for me since it kept my undivided attention. I give it a strong five stars !
I enjoy long-running series, and it is even better when the author keeps the series going with the children/grandchildren of the original characters. This is the first book in a new series involving the grandchildren of Victoria Colby-Camp, and it bodes well for the rest of the series.
Jamie Colby is an excellent agent in her own right. She's just finishing up a mission with her partner, Kenny Poe when she receives an urgent call from her grandmother. Jamie's brother Luke has been kidnapped to use as a hostage. The kidnappers need Jamie's skills, but she isn't happy with what she must do to fulfill the requirements. She and her partner, Kenny, have worked together for several years and are good friends.
There isn't much romance in this story. It is evident from the start that Kenny has feelings for Jamie but doesn't want to wreck their friendship by saying anything. He is protective of her but respects her abilities as an agent. It wasn't until the end that I got a good read on Jamie's feelings for him. This was a friends-to-more story, though I never saw much heat between them. I liked the ending and the easy shift into a couple.
The suspense was terrific. Matters quickly become complicated when the kidnapper's contact is a man Jamie has worked with before. It is difficult to tell whether he is working with them or against them, and there were times I wanted them to tie him up and leave him in a closet. Interference from a third party adds a layer of intensity when Jamie and a young girl are kidnapped themselves. Some tense moments ensued, but Jamie and Kenny could complete their mission. After all the build-up, I found it somewhat anti-climactic, but it kept my attention to the end.
I liked the twist at the end regarding Jamie's future. It will be interesting to follow her progress in later books.
I have read many of Debra Webb's books, but I have not read any of the Colby Agency books. I thought this would be a good one to try since it is all new to me.
Like all of her books, Debra grips you from the very first chapter. Special Agent Jamie Colby is called by her grandmother about the kidnapping of her brother Luke. The mystery begins with who would want Luke? Special instructions that only require Jamie's expertise to help release him sets up the hunt for her brother. Her partner Kendrick Poe along for the ride keeps the action moving along. Although there is no real romance in the book,it does not diminish the plot in anyway. There is chemistry between the two,but the friendship they have keeps them working together beautifully. Will they find the doctor they are supposed to get in order to save her brother? Can the agency help in anyway without compromising the mission? Will Jamie be able to complete the objective without getting anyone hurt or worse?
Only Debra Webb can create a story that draws you in each and every time I pick up her books. The pages keep turning with the wonderful characters and a plot that keeps you guessing.I highly recommend this next generation series, and I might have to go back to the beginning to see how it all started. Thanks to the author for the arc of this book.
It’s almost Christmas and Victoria is worried about her son’s wife Tasha. They are in Sweden as Tasha’s diagnosis for a rare type of cancer is being the reason they’ve traveled so far. As if that is not worrisome enough, Victoria receives a terrifying phone call from her grandson Luke. Apparently Luke has been kidnapped and there is a ransom of $10 million demanded. Victoria and her husband Lucas begin gathering as many as her team as possible to try and trace the call.
Jamie Colby is Victoria’ granddaughter, one of twelve with the elite International Operations Agency, and she will no doubt be instrumental in saving Luke. The Christmas season is very dark indeed for the Colby family. Kenny Poe works alongside Jamie while they are attempting to rescue Luke. With the addition of another character named Abi, the puzzles in this book have been made difficult to decipher.
Although this series is preceded by the long-running Colby Agency series, now there is a new generation. This and all the books are written as standalone novels. I may have missed the first series, but now having the opportunity to read this first book, I hope to visit with the Colby family again.
Many thanks to Thomas & Mercer and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
This is a great introduction to Jamie and Poe, although I am not sure about Abi - I am hoping this is the last we see of him, although I have a sinking suspicion it won't be and he is going to haunt Jamie and Poe for the foreseeable future, just because he can! If Victoria and Lucas were ever going to be replaceable Jamie and Poe could be it, they have the same easy working style, the analytical thought processes and the drive that began the Colby Agency to begin with, but the thought of Victoria and Lucas finally stepping down is unsettling. Whilst I enjoyed getting to know Jamie and Poe and seeing the chemistry and dynamics between them, I am a little frustrated that we are left a little up in the air with their relationship at the end, it's alluded to and they are both transferring together, but after the build up and an insight to their thoughts and feelings throughout....we don't get to witness their "cards on the table" chat, which is a bit disappointing.
I’m a fan of Debra Webb and her single title thrillers. Her books are well written and her characters so real I feel like I know them. Her plots are always well drawn and her pacing keeps the story moving. I’ve never been disappointed.
Webb’s early career began with Harlequin. The Colby Agency series is her longest running. Out of curiosity, I decided to read her upcoming short novel, A Colby Christmas Rescue. The book can be read as a stand alone, so I was able to delve right in. The author’s writing skills shine, the characters are realistic, and the story is fast paced. Readers who like Romantic Suspense might enjoy this holiday tale and the Colby series too.

Failure is not an option for Jamie Colby and Kendrick Poe. Lives are on the line in this thrilling drama which opens up a new series for the Colby Agency: The Next Generation.
The suspense is built up with each and every chapter to the point that you feel like you are going to explode waiting for the other shoe to drop. Jamie and Kendrick do not trust the people they are working with, but they are at their mercy if they want to save lives. Hang on tight for a ride of epic proportions as the twists just keep coming right up until the end of the book. Debra Webb knows how to spin a story and keep the reader guessing right up until the end. I could not sleep until I finished this book. Sleep is not necessary when there is a mystery to be solved. This book has me amped up ready for the next installment in this new series.
Thank you to the author for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I remember why I LOVE Debra Webb's books so much after reading this book!
We get to meet the next generation of the Colby Family! I remember reading about them years ago..Always loved series with them in it..
Jamie who is a granddaughter of Victoria and Lucas. Her dad is Victoria's son.
She is working for a different agency with her friend and co worker Poe when she gets a call that sends her to Tennessee to find her brother that has been kidnapped.
They are sent to a house and when they are trying to figure out why she has been told she is the one to do this mission a man she worked with in the past Abi is there..P.S. I did not like him!
They are lots of roadblocks to get the mission done. Poe goes missing and Abi won't tell her the truth to save his life.
This story takes you on a ride that is hard to get off of til you get to the very last page!
I really really look forward to reading the rest of the books in this series!
A Colby Christmas rescue , Colby agency The next generation by my favorite author Debra Webb is a great start to the new series! The 3th generation Colby’s are awesome! And this book makes me want to go back and reread the Colby series from the beginning. When Jamie Colbys brother is kidnapped it’s up to her and her partner Kendrick to save him. A lot of twists and turns had me guessing how it would end and the suspense kept me on the edge of my seat! I loved it how the Colby family came together! Light on the romance part this time but I only realized that while writing this review. The plot was so good ! It’s a standalone but if you haven’t read the Colby agency books I would recommend to do so because it’s a great series! I’m looking forward to the next book in the series! I received this arc from the author and this review is my honest opinion.
In this novella, the youngest generation of Colby's must come together to resolve a kidnapping and ransom situation that is all too personal. I didn't know about the Colby Agency series from this author, so I was happy to learn that this is an extensive series of standalones.
In A Colby Christmas Rescue, Jamie Colby must use all of her skills to figure out just what's going on, and how they will navigate the roadblocks that get thrown in her way. Her brother is in danger and she is key to releasing him. There's a bit of romance between Jamie and her partner that makes it interesting, and of the other key characters also has history with Jamie.
I enjoyed this novella. It moves along nicely and handles some contingency situations beautifully with just the right touch of tension.
I haven't read a Colby Agency Intrigue in so long, so I was super excited to see the new generation begin! As always, Deb did not let me down with this wonderful story of family, dedication, deceit, and the idea that everyone deserves the same treatment regardless of their means. This was a more unusual Intrigue where the romance was rather nonexistent, but you were too busy trying to figure out the twisting ups and downs of the mystery and why Jamie's brother had been kidnapped, why they wanted Jamie to kidnap the doctor, and who it was behind it all. So well done, and the joyful holiday celebration with Victoria at the end was all we needed to read to know this new generation will have the Colby Agency well in hand.
I felt like the whole plot was ridiculous and contrived. I get that the family is skilled at spy craft and are fixers, but when the grandson is taken hostage, the grand daughter is sent to recover him and the grandparents stay home and decorate for Christmas?
There was some suspense, no romance at all beyond Jamie’s thoughts about Kenny and their one kiss. It did move fast and I kept waiting for something exciting to happen, it just never gelled for me.
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book, but my opinions are my own.
I didn't realize that this was part of a larger series when I decided to read it. I have not read any of the prior Colby books. Thankfully, the story was standalone and plenty of explanation was provided as to who all of the characters were. I have read a handfull of series by Debra Webb, and this came across as more whimsical and light than those. The story is fast paced and at times a bit chaotic. Overall, great book. Fitting for the holiday season.
Victoria Colby is readying Christmas plans when her grandson Luke is kidnapped. She calls his sister Jaimie to help. When Jaimie & Poe find out that she is part of the ransom for Luke, they start the process of rescuing her brother, & making sure all the players come out alive. There may be other players in this game, but the level of trust and emotion between Jaimie & Poe continues to help in this investigation, rather than hinder. It was wonderful getting the chance to travel back into The Colby family. It's another unputdownable read from Ms. Webb!
A Colby Christmas Rescue by Debra Webb' this is a new series that is a spin off of The Colby Agency and brings us the next generation of the family to fall in love with. I always find this author's books very good reads, and this one did not disappoint. Jamie and her partner Poe race to save her brother from a kidnapper, but what they are expected to do isn't exactly legal. I would certainly recommend this book to others.
I received and ARC from NetGalley and the publisher Harlequin, and I am leaving my review voluntarily.
This is the first book in the Next Generation of the Colby Agency. When Jamie and Kenny are finishing up a mission, she gets a call that her brother Luke has been kidnapped and that they are requesting Jamie to help. While their parents are overseas due to her mothers illness, it was going to be a quiet Christmas, but not anymore.
This was a great story that had had twists and turns and a little romance thrown in. A great plot with characters that you really liked. I can't wait for the next book in this series.
I quite enjoy Debra Webb’a books. Even though I hadn’t read the Colby Agency series yet, I was excited to read about the next generation. Special Agent Jamie Colby is on a mission and this one hits close to home. Her grandparents, head of the Colby Agency, have let her know that her brother has been kidnapped and she must deliver a surgeon with a ground-breaking surgery technique to the kidnappers in order to secure her brother’s release. Her partner, Poe insists on coming along and together they must work to carry out the dangerous mission as Christmas rapidly approaches. A good read!
This new series gives the readers a look at the “Next Generation” of the Colby investigators. This one belongs to Jamie Colby as she rescues her brother Luke from kidnappers. She and co-worker Kendrick Poe face the danger and the obstacles. Who is pulling the strings in the kidnapping? Action packed , and filled of many twists and turns, this is a good introduction to the series. I was entrusted a copy of this book by Netgalley and Harlequin. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
This book is more of a novella at just over 200 pages. It's a fast-paced story about a kidnapping and rescue. The Colby family will stop at nothing to get back Luke, who has been abducted by an unknown person or group. They want money and more, and only his sister Jamie is permitted to help. Will she be able to carry out her rescue mission and get her brother home in time for Christmas? With plenty of suspense to keep you reading until the end, this story is a good read this holiday season.
Once again Debra Webb has pulled off an amazing book and a start to a new series. This book involves Special Agent Jamie Colby on a live or die mission. Jamie's family is in danger from kidnappers who need Jamie's help and is willing to do anything to get her help including putting her family at risk. Jamie along with her partner Kendrick must risk everything to finish the mission including their growing attraction.
I absolutely Love all of this authors work. This book is NO exception!
Victoria is a legend in her own right. To be a Colby is to be known. Her Grandchildren are no exception, but when a fear filled call comes in, she does what she has to do to save a life.
Jamie (Victoria's granddaughter) a special operative and a key to saving said life.
Will they be able to save a life without losing another?
I have enjoyed Debra Webbs thriller series, and recently received an ARC for the 4th book in this new Colby series. While each book can be read as a standalone, I wanted to read from the beginning as I have not read any of the other previous Colby series. I liked the characters, and although I found the plot a bit ridiculous, I did enjoy it enough to continue. I was a bit disappointed in the lack of romance though.
Debra did an awesome job with this Christmas story.
This was with Jamie Colby needing to save her brother. She did things that she never do to save her brother. Poe and Jamie Abi did things to also save Dr. Care's daughter. Poe, Jamie, Adi where doing amazing thing.
Victoria, Gramother , Victoria wanting to her family home for Christmas. I love intriguing, and love thriller books.
I just love Debra Webb's books and storylines. They just keep you on the edge of your seat the whole way through. Her stories are well written and has wonderful characters in them. This story has suspense, kidnapping and family love. It was very enjoyable. This was the first I read in this series so I may have to go back and read them all. Thank you for the ARC.
I enjoyed reading this one. It had a good amount of suspense. The Colby agency has to help get back someone close to them that has been kidnapped. Can they get him back by Christmas? With everyone helping in their own way, they are up against the clock. I really enjoyed this one and can’t wait to read the next.
This book was amazing. Kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. The Colby family came together in a time of need. I'm glad everything went down without anyone getting hurt and everything turned out well.
