Hunted on the Trail kept me up late because I didn’t want to go to sleep until I finished the book. It’s not often I stay up late reading. This book was an edge of seat read almost from the beginning to the end. The Author packed a lot of gripping suspense unto the pages and I didn’t want to stop reading . It’s one of the best suspense stories that I’ve read in a long time. There are other books in this series and I want to go back and read each one. It was second chance romance where the main characters ran from a ruthless killer who was never far away from them. The chase begins almost from the first chapter. The book is also unpredictable and will have your stomach tied up in knots.
I highly recommend this book to readers of suspense thrillers and fans of the author. I read it as a stand alone .
I won a copy of this book in a giveaway. All thoughts and opinions expressed here in this review are solely my own.

This is a Romantic Suspense, and this is the third book in the Security Hounds Investigations series. I have not read the first two books in this series before picking up this book. I read this book by listening to the audiobook. I really enjoyed listening to the audiobook and had no problem understanding the narrator. This book is a fast paced book that is full of suspense and action. I really enjoyed this book, and I liked getting to know the characters in this book. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.

“We think love is a feeling, but that’s not the whole truth. Love is action, behavior - it’s what you do when you aren’t feeling the good things.”

This wilderness survival story (the third in the series) wormed its way into my heart and the words “improvise, adapt, and overcome” have been much in my mind lately.

Mentink takes us back to Whisper Valley in northern California and introduces us to the sister of the two previous Wolfe siblings from book one and two. Stephanie Wolfe doesn’t get too far along the trail in her Lost Sierra Tracking and Trailing Competition when she realizes that the competition is a set up orchestrated by a vengeful killer. Thankfully, her former partner, Vance Silverton and his dog Brutus/Pudge are on scene. Purebred liver-and-tan bloodhound Duchess Chloe Cleopatra Rosamond shows up Brutus’ skills, but Pudge soon reveals his value. I loved the infusion of humour into an otherwise pulse-pounding read.

I felt the tension and desperation of being trapped, cut off, and vulnerable. My heart was pounding. I also felt the romantic tension between Vance and Stephanie and had to keep reading to find out why she was so dismissive of him.

The focus on second chances and forgiveness was good, but I really loved the messages about confronting our fears and mistakes of the past AND the reminder that love is an action.

If you’re craving a pulse-pounding, heart-racing adventure filled with humor, heart, and the unbreakable bond of loyalty between humans and their lovable dogs, Hunted on the Trail is a must-read. From the very first page, this story seizes you—not just with its nail-biting suspense, but with the fierce, witty chemistry between Vance and Stephanie, two people thrust together in a deadly race for survival, where every moment counts. The tension between them is palpable, and their banter? Hilarious. It's clear that the author knows how to blend heart-stopping action with moments of lightheartedness—thank you, Vance, Pudge, and Chloe, for the comic relief.

While the suspense keeps you on the edge of your seat, it's the relationship between the characters (and, of course, their dogs) that really carries the heart of the story. Stephanie and Vance may have a complicated past, but their partnership in this dangerous game of survival is what really shines. Their shared faith in God, especially in moments of desperation, grounds the entire narrative. There's something so authentic about how they lean on God for strength when all seems lost. The action-packed moments—dodging bullets, navigating treacherous wilderness, and the approaching storm—are terrifyingly intense, but it’s their quiet moments of prayer, trust, and vulnerability that tug at your heart.

And can we talk about the dogs for a second? I can’t get enough of them! Vance talking to Pudge like he’s a fellow human being is enough to make anyone smile. Pudge rises to the occasion in a way that shows just how deep the bond between human and dog can be. Chloe, too, is more than just a companion; she's integral to their survival. The animals aren't just props—they’re favorite characters in this reader’s heart!

The fast pace of the plot and the twist-and-turn action kept me turning the pages as quickly as possible. Mentink delivers a suspenseful ride while weaving in faith, hope, and a subtle reminder that we don’t have to face our fears alone. Whether you’re a fan of suspense, Christian fiction, or just looking for a story with unforgettable characters (two-legged and four-legged), this one hits the target.

Highly recommend Hunted on the Trail. It’s a thrilling read with a wonderful mix of suspense, humor, and heart, all wrapped up with a thread of faith that brings everything into perspective.

So unbelievably good! Right out of the gate, edge-of-your-seat suspense. I loved both characters. I loved seeing their dependence on God, as they prayed for help while they were running for their lives. I could not tell what was going to happen next. Just when I thought they would be safe and out of harm’s way, another twist in the story. So good! Kept me guessing how they were going to get out all the way until the very end. I highly recommend this one. Dana Mentink is quickly becoming one of my new favorite authors!

“We’re partners again right now, like we were back on the force. Partners don’t abandon each other. Ever.”

Except, these two, Steph and Vance, are more like “cooperative enemies.” Dana Mentink begins her third book of Security Hound Investigations, Hunted on the Trail, with Stephanie Wolfe and her well-trained bloodhound joining a four day tracking and trailing competition in the Sierra Nevada range. Much to her dismay, Vance Silverton, her former boyfriend who stole the detective job from under her, comes to attempt to be her partner. Two strikes against him. The third is Brutus, his obese, uncontrollable dog, obviously not trained for such missions. ( Friends, we have our resident odd-ball “bloodhound” for the book!) Brutus is the source of much laughter, amazement, and not a little consternation! Shortly after starting the race, Steph’s assigned partner vanishes, and Steph and Vance discover they are both lured to this wilderness by a murderer from their past whose guilt they failed to prove while on the force.

And so begins a very dangerous cat-and-mouse game in an unforgiving land where all the chips are stacked against Steph and Vance. Can they get past their painful history to work together to survive?

The problem seems to be, both the people and the dogs are exact opposites. The dogs, bless their hearts, act like adults and get along fine. But can two such opposite people really mesh after the danger is over? It is possible, but they are going to both have some daily concessions to make. They will have to continue to consider other’s backgrounds and history with love and care as they respond.

It is when Steph learns of Vance’s background that her attitude
begins to change about Vance, while I began to flounder as a reader, hitting a personal trigger. However, Mentink had built up the suspense and the romantic tension so high, I had to keep reading, crying or not. What I discovered was that Steph responds with empathy to Vance’s situation, the words she uses and affirmations she gives him brought comfort to my own hurting soul. Wow!

I loved the plot twists and felt the whodunnit was played just right. So far, this is my fave book of the series probably for the twists and also for the dogs. I only wish I could have maybe been a tree with eyes to see the hilariousness that was Vance and his dog!

I received a copy of the book from the author and publisher and Celebrate Lit. I also bought my own copy. No positive review was required, and all opinions are my own.

Buckle up, y’all! Dana Mentink takes us on a harrowing adventure as Stephanie Wolfe and her bloodhound Chloe run for their lives alongside Stephanie’s ex Vance and his adorably endearing dog ‘Brutus’, a killer chasing them down with revenge on his mind. There were several moments in Hunted on the Trail where I forgot to breathe, the suspense was so intense. But, just at the right moments, Mentink gives us the perfect comic relief or romantic kiss to let our racing pulses slow back down … before she puts our hearts right back in our throats, the killer lurking too close for comfort once more. Oh my word, I wasn’t sure how this was going to turn out… I mean, this is Love Inspired Suspense so I know there’s going to be a happy ending but there were a few moments when I didn’t know for sure if both Stephanie and Vance would be around to see it haha. And DON’T RELAX when you think you can. Just trust me on this one.

We’ve gotten to know Stephanie a little bit already in this series but we really get to unpack the layers to her backstory in Hunted on the Trail. A backstory that includes Vance, a former cop like Stephanie and the reason she… well, you’ll have to read the book to find out. The romantic tension between them hasn’t faded over time, but the stakes are certainly higher now. Vance is also pretty much Stephanie’s polar opposite and, even though the reason they are forced to work together is a dire one, it’s still fun to watch Vance’s fly-by-the-seat-of-his-pants personality work together with Stephanie’s detail-oriented planning tendencies. And their dogs are just like them. I adore how Dana Mentink writes dogs – with such personalities and humor – and Chloe and ‘Brutus’ are now among my faves. Especially ‘Brutus’. You’ll see why not too long after you meet him; I laughed out loud more than once at his quirks and at how Vance is with him. SO cute!

Bottom Line: Hunted on the Trail by Dana Mentink will keep you on the edge of your seat from the first chapter to the very last word, not to mention the giggles, swoons, and faith lessons you’ll experience too. The reminder to fix your gaze on God rather than the difficulties you face is timely as we close out one year and head into the next, and I appreciated how naturally it was woven into the characters’ layers and the story itself. Stephanie and Vance deserve all their Scout badges for this unexpected wilderness adventure, but I’ll settle for their hard-earned, happily-ever-after instead. The ending had me grinning like a fool, Vance forever endearing himself to me as an absolute softie at heart. I’m already looking forward to whatever is in store for the Wolfe family and their skilled (and quirky) dogs next!

Dana Mentink has a hit on her hands with Hunted on the Trail! Hunted on the Trail is the third installment of her Security Hounds Investigations series published by Harlequin’s Love Inspired Suspense line. Hunted on the Trail introduces readers to Stephanie (Steph) who enters a Tracking Competition with her dog Chloe who is reunited, begrudgingly, with her ex-boyfriend Vance, who is now a Bounty Hunter. Vance is working a case with his dog Brutus/Pudge, putting Steph in danger because of it. Vance and Steph were dating when they were working together as cops, until the case they were working on backfired and they both went their separate ways–Steph working with dogs that can help various ways in cases and Vance as a Bounty Hunter. As soon as Steph and Chloe begin the Tracking Competition, their lives are in danger before the Competition truly begins, leaving Steph and Chloe in the wild with only Vance for help to make it out alive. For Steph and Vance, being trapped together ironically brings a healing balm so that their relationship can mend.

Dana Mentink has become an instant go-to Author for me in Christian Suspense. I now know when I read a book by Ms. Mentink, it is going to be full throttle suspense from the very first page, while having the Message of Christ woven through out the book. I have not been able to read the rest of the Security Hounds Investigations series yet and it did not detour me in Hunted on the Trail at all. I did not feel lost or behind starting the series at book 3–it just made me more intrigued to read what I had missed sooner rather than later. I love meeting Steph, Vance, and especially the dogs! I love how much Ms. Mentink packed riveting edge-of-your-seat suspense into Hunted on the Trail! I love how Ms. Mentink set Hunted on the Trail primarily in the wild and I thought that was an interesting tidbit to the plot. I felt that what was going on between Steph and Vance was more important than being hunted in the wilderness by a criminal. Ms. Mentink wrote Hunted on the Trail in such a way that Steph and Vance wouldn’t have been able to resolve the issues between them and maintain an ambiance of peace without being stuck in the wilderness–I loved that about the plot! I love that Steph and Vance didn’t pick up their relationship where it was left, but were honestly listening and learning from one another to work through their issues to end up in a better place. I believe an underlying theme of Hunted on the Trail is how God is teaching them to truly slow down to listen to each other and others around them, imagining how things seem to look from another’s perspective and how they perceive things. I love the intrigue of the mystery! To me, the suspense and mystery element of the story was fast paced, but at the same time, as the Reader, you could feel how agonizing it was for Steph and Vance in wanting to get back to civilization instead of running for their lives. I thought having the dogs in the story added an element of calm or a breather in the middle of the high octane thrill that Hunted on the Trail gives you. If you are looking for a high octane read, full of Truth that teaches you lessons that you can apply to your own life, then I highly recommend Hunted on the Trail by Dana Mentink! I cannot wait to read the rest of the Security Hounds Investigations series either!

Dana Mentink has delivered another heart-pounding adventure with Hunted on the Trail, a gripping tale of survival, trust, and determination.

The book follows Stephanie Wolfe, a former cop, and her loyal bloodhound, as they’re drawn into a deadly trap orchestrated by an escaped fugitive seeking revenge. The plot thickens when Stephanie’s ex-boyfriend, Vance Silverton, is also caught in the danger. Together, the two must navigate the perilous wilderness with only their wits, limited supplies, and their faithful dogs to depend on.

Mentink’s skill at weaving suspense with emotional depth is on full display here. The relationship dynamics between Stephanie and Vance add layers to the story without overshadowing the action. Their shared history and forced collaboration make for an engaging subplot that feels natural and relatable. The dogs, too, play a significant role, not just as loyal companions but as integral parts of the story, adding an element of heartwarming connection amid the relentless tension.

The setting is beautifully rendered, with the wilderness itself becoming a character—treacherous, unforgiving, and stunningly vivid. Mentink masterfully balances the external threats of the fugitive and the storm with the internal struggles of trust and survival. The twists and turns in the plot are unpredictable, with each revelation upping the stakes.

What truly stands out is the pacing. The story never lags, and just when you think the characters might have a moment to breathe, a new challenge arises, keeping you on edge. The finale is as satisfying as it is surprising, tying together the threads of suspense and emotion in a way that feels both thrilling and earned.

This latest novel in the Security Hounds Investigations series is packed full of suspense. That's because the villain toys with Stephanie and Vance like a cat might toy with a live mouse. Ferris, mean as could be, could have killed them many times but delays it to see them suffer more and more. It took great survival skills for Stephanie and Vance to stay alive. The dogs were wonderful, even Pudge. While not a trained tracking dog, he was great for protection when it counted.

While there is a great deal of suspense, there is also a great deal of character thought. Stephanie and Vance had worked together and been an item years ago, but he had hurt her greatly when he used information he knew to get a promotion that should have gone to her. Now forced together to work at survival in a secluded area, we wonder if that past hurt is an obstacle that can be overcome or not. Stephanie and Vance have much to think and talk about when they have time free from the villain.

This is an entertaining inspirational romantic suspense with a surprise twist and more suspense near the end. I recommend it.

Dana Mentink is one of my favorite “Love Inspired” authors. Her books always have intriguing storylines and this story is another well-written, suspenseful page turner. The two main characters in the book, Stephanie and Vance, have to work closely together to have a chance to escape the danger that seems to be engulfing them. But they also have two other “heroes” along to help them—their dogs Chloe and Pudge. Chloe is a trained bloodhound and Pudge is a hero in the making. As all four are on the run together, Stephanie and Vance find that they must also untangle their complicated hearts and emotions. The ending to the story was amazing, especially as there was a twist I didn’t see coming. If you enjoy reading Christian suspense books, you’ll love this one.

This book is Book 3 in the “Security Hounds Investigations” series. Each story stands on its own, but if you enjoyed this one, you’ll want to check out this series.

MY THOUGHTS

Hunted on the Trail is written by Dana Mentink. This is book three in the Security Hounds Investigation series. All books can be read as a stand alone. However the personalities of all the dogs have made me laugh so hard.

Stephanie is a former cop. She is now working with the Security Hounds Investigation team. She left when she was passed over for a promotion. However, her ex boyfriend Vance was given the job over her.

Stephanie and Chloe are now getting ready to compete in a tracking competition. She’s excited to expand their skills but doesn’t realize she is walking right into a trap. An escaped fugitive has Stephanie in their sites and will stop at nothing to punish them.

This book opens with plenty of action and suspense. The author wastes no time in the heart pounding action and suspense. Stephanie finds that Vance is trying to help her and she has to trust him and put aside her anger to make it out alive.

Thank you to the author, publisher and Celebrate Lit for allowing me to read a copy of this book. All thoughts are my own.

Hunted on the Trail by Dana Mentink is a Suspense novel. As with the other books by this author I have read, I found myself quickly drawn into the story. This third book in the Security Hounds series focuses on Stephanie Wolfe and Vance Silverthorn. The two were former partners at work and outside of work.

Stephanie is invited to participate in a grueling competition with her bloodhound, Chloe. Just as she is about to start the competition, Vance arrives to tell her something. The author fills the following pages with danger, suspense, dog antics, and more.

I have to say I loved getting to know these characters, including the dogs. Dana Mentink takes the reader through twists and turns that kept me reading.

I believe you could read this book on its own. However, before reading this one, I recommend reading the first two books in the series.

So, if you are looking for a suspense novel that will keep you reading, check out Hunted on the Trail by Dana Mentink.

I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.

Hunted on The Trail by Dana Mentink
“Bad idea. Very bad. The worst” are the first words you read when opening “Hunted on The Trail”. Dana delivers on those words along with the title “Hunted on the Trail”. This suspense story includes not one but two teams of characters with their dogs while being hunted by a mad man out for revenge.
Dana, has you feeling tired and drained along with Stephanie and Vance as they try to stay alive while running from Ferris, the mad man who 3 weeks earlier was released on parole.
You feel the energy of Stephanie’s dog Chloe, as she becomes alerted to the mad man’s scent, meaning Ferris is close by.
Vanny’s dog Brutus pulls at your heart as you root for him then cringe in the same breath.
As with other Dana Mentink suspense books with a dog on the cover, you get some lighthearted laughs right before you are gripped with suspense, putting you on a roller coaster of feelings.
I cannot wait for Dana’s next book.

This is book three in the Security Hounds series but can be read as a stand-alone. I have enjoyed this whole series so very much. If you want to go on a wilderness survival trek then I recommend looking no farther. I love Stephanie & Vance as they are flawed and real. Add in dear sweet Chloe a champion bloodhound and Pudge who makes me smile, a dog with heart. When you weave a faith thread into the suspense and throw in a little attraction you have a winning story that keeps you on edge while entertaining you. I admire the courage it takes to keep persevering in the face of danger and being averted at every corner. Gripping tale that you will be glad you add to your TBR pile.

Twists and turns until the very end!

Steph and her k-9 Chloe are entering an extreme search and rescue competition. But her old police partner Vance shows up with a k-9 called Pudge. He tries to tell Steph that it is a trap set by an old nemesis, but she won't listen, so he and Pudge follow Steph and Chloe, and help rescue her from the trap. But then the 4 of them are being hunted through this extreme landscape. Can they survive and catch the bad guy, when he always seems one step ahead of them? Read this to see.

The pace is breakneck and the tone is intense with an action and character oriented storyline that has a few kisses only. The characters are vibrant and kickass, including the dogs! The Christian ideals are a natural part of the story. Each book in the series is separate, but you will want to read the other 2 stories as well.

Wow! That's about all I can say.

Hunted on the Trail will certainly keep you on the edge of your seat. It's action-packed and suspenseful. I also enjoyed the growth in both Stephanie and Vance, in trust in each other and in forgiveness toward each other, as well as in their faith in God.

And, hey! the dogs nearly steal the show, especially good ol' endearing Pudge. I like how Pudge and Vance have similar temperaments, as do Steph and Chloe. I love how Mentink incorporates dogs in her stories.

If you're looking for Christian suspense, with a dose of faith and a touch of romance, this should be added to your TBR list.

HUNTED ON THE TRAIL by Dana Mentink is the spine tingling, edge of your seat suspense story of Stephanie Wolfe, the Lost Sierra Tracking & Trailing Competition and Vance Silverton.

After being betrayed by the man she loved, Stephanie turned in her police badge and started training search and rescue dogs at Whisper Valley Security Hounds on her family’s ranch. Chloe is her #1 student and constant companion. The chance to participate in the Lost Sierra Tracking & Trailing Competition, four-day event, will give both the business and Chloe credibility. Little did she know what was in store for them!

The biggest mistake of Vance’s life was when he unintentionally revealed some private information about Stephanie. It ended their relationship and ultimately lead to his resigning from the force. Now a bounty hunter, he’s after the man that causes so many people heartbreak. Clues led him to the Lost Sierra Tracking & Trailing Competition. He showed up with dog in tow – actually named Pudge, but Brutus sounded more like a bloodhound name. He's complete stunned to see Stephanie and her bloodhound there. When she won’t talk to him so he can warn her, and after being told he was too late to enter the competition, he has no choice but the sneak in. He will protect Stephanie defending her with his life if need be.

Maurice Ferris was sent to prison for fraudulent business practices where he eventually died. Ferris, his son, was sent to prison at the same time on fraud and theft crimes. He holds Stephanie and Vance responsible for his father’s imprisonment and ultimately his death. Now released from prison, he’s out to make those that contributed to his father’s death pay. While there is actually a competition, Stephanie admission and Vance’s clues are all a ruse of his planning. It ends up being a situation with acres of rough terrain, uninhabited land, no cell service, no one expecting to hear from them for four days, no vehicle, very little food and water, and cold rainy days ahead with little to no protection from the weather. Can Stephanie and Vance out smart, out maneuver and overcoming the nefarious man out for one thing – to kill them in the slowest most painful way. Along the way, can Stephanie and Vance made peace with the past, survive the present and even hope for a future?

HUNTED ON THE TRAIL is an exception story that will grab you on page one and not turn you lose until the last paragraph. Dana Mentink gives us a story of suspense, danger, forgiveness, romance, character, wilderness survival, and wraps it all in a fabulous thread of faith. HUNTED ON THE TRAIL is most definitely 5-STAR reading that I highly recommend! Although the third book in the Security Hounds Investigations series, it can definitely be read as a standalone book.

I receive a copy of this book with no requirement or expectations of a review. All opinions are completely my own.

Hunted on the Trail is part of a fun series. You’ll meet cute dogs who are determined and trained, and maybe just a slug of one too. It’s definitely a series you need to read in order. Because you’re going to meet more family the further into the series you go.

Join Stephanie and her dog as they think they’re going to compete in a tracking event. Except, something is off and it’s not the dog’s nose. When Stephanie’s old boyfriend Vance shows up and pretends he wants to enter the race too she’s not sure what’s going on. But she’s glad that she’s in and he’s out.

I found Vance’s dog hilarious!
He picks him up to enter the race. He’s not a trained dog. And you’ll realize this as you read the book. But that dog is so funny! He’s a big help and very much great for laughs throughout the whole novel. The opposite of Stephanie’s dog for sure.

Vance obviously does not go home when he’s not accepted into the race. Because he’s not a cop anymore. He’s on the hunt for a convict. And he won’t stop til he gets him. Because this guy he’s after is out to get him and Stephanie. What if he’s there? And what if he’s more prepared than they are?

This is a wonderful read. The characters are amazing and truly draw you in. I loved watching them grow and develop through the novel. And I loved getting a short check-in with the couples from the other two novels in the series.

Quintessential Mentink! Everything I love about her writing is right here in this book! I’m particularly appreciative of her ability to get into deep characterization with K-9s! Seriously, this author speaks dog and I love the way she brings these critters to life in her stories. And the way she portrays the human/dog dynamic is brilliant and funny and so relatable (if you’ve ever been owned by fur buddy, that is!)

Loved the opening scene that morphs into action pretty quickly. This is very much a wilderness survival kind of suspense where Stephanie and Vance are cut off from the rest of the world and are being hunted by a nefarious villain. The relentless pursuit, near misses and plenty of gasp-out-loud moments build up the tension as their circumstances grow more dire, making for an unputdownable read.

But, what I love best about this story is the way the author deftly brings humour to even the toughest situations. So many laugh out loud moments — usually involving a certain dog and a certain hero. Loved their interactions and the way Vance is so defensive of his K-9. Honestly, I fell in love with Vance because of the way he treats that fur ball. I have no idea how Stephanie resisted for so long! But then, they have history so – yay – for a Second Chance Romance trope which adds its own kind of tension to the plot.

I enjoyed listening to the audio edition of ‘Hunted on the Trail’. Narrator Abby Craden did a phenomenal job breathing life into these characters and conveying all the tension and drama through her performance. A brilliant listen!

My thanks to Harlequin Audio and Net Galley for providing me with an audio copy of this book.

My review today is on the Love Inspired Suspense, Hunted on the Trail. This is book three in the series Security Hounds Investigations. Dana is one of my all time favorite authors. I have followed her for years, so I'm always thrilled to get one of her books in the mail. This one is incredible! I know you are going to love it.

Former cop now a security specialist Stephanie Wolfe decides to take part the four day Lost Sierra Tracking and Trailing Competition with her champion bloodhound, Chloe. It would help their investigation firm. She was furious when she saw her ex-boyfriend show up for the same competition. What she didn't know was that it was a set up. An escaped convict is out to destroy her and her dog.

Bounty hunter Vance Silverton shows up with his new partner Brutus to the competition only to see Stephanie. He told her he needed to talk to her but she refused. They refused to let him enter as the weather was turning bad. Again he tried to talk to Steph. Maybe he was wrong and Ferris didn't come to this pocket of nowhere and Vance had misread the clues but Steph was here. He thought he'd been tracking Ferris now he thought he had been played. He had to follow her.

A terrifying journey when they are followed and cut off into the wilderness with minimal supplies and two dogs. God has a plan for these two, a plan for hope and a future. God has a plan for you too. A good plan for peace and not for destruction. Give God your heart and watch what he will do in your life.

Christian Fiction if one of my favorite genres. Hunted on the Trail by Dana Mentick is the most recent book in this genre that I have read. It is Book 3 in the Security Hounds Investigation Series. I have enjoyed the first 2 books in this series.

WOW, the storyline is strong and intriguing from the very beginning. Stephanie Wolfe and Vance Silverton are the 2 main characters in this story. Stephaine is a former cop and is on the trail to help find an a escaped fugitive. The fugitive is out for revenge and things are dangerous. Stephanie is quite surprised when her ex-boyrfriend, Vance, joins the hunt for the fugative. They both have their dogs on the hunt with the them, Stephanie has a lovely Bloodhound. I really LOVE that even though Stephanie has hurt towards Vance, they find a way to work together on this hunt for the fugative. They are caught in a Snowstorm, but their dogs and being properly prepared with supplies help them through that also. The crazy suspense is that they figure out this hunt was a "set-up" from the fugitive who wants revenge on the pair. I was on the edge of my seat many times throughout the story as the twists and turns kept coming. I really LOVE that they are focused on the current situation at hand and not on the hurtful past. The storyline is one of Mystery, Intrigue, faith and romance! I highly recommend this book for anyone who enjoys Suspense, Romance and Faith based books! FABULOUS BOOK!

Readers yearning for a superb story need look no further than a Dana Mentink novel. She always crafts compelling suspense tempered with just the right amount of romance and inspiration, Hunted on the Trail, her newest release, is no exception. It is the third installment in her Security Hounds Investigations Series but can certainly be read as a stand-alone. Themes of starting over and forgiveness are woven throughout the intense action.

Foreshadowing on the very first page alerts the reader to upcoming trouble. The tracking and training competition Stephanie Wolfe has just entered with Chloe, her champion bloodhound, might not be what she had thought it would be. The wilderness setting, the stormy weather forecast, and the threats of a man she helped convict do not bode well. And then there’s the appearance of Vance Silverton—the fellow cop she once cared about but who betrayed her.

Now Steph and Vance find themselves as allies pitted against the escaped fugitive who has lured them to a desolate place to exact revenge. Will they be able to trust each other so they can outsmart their pursuer and keep themselves and their dogs alive?

I have bever been disappointed by a Dana Mentink novel. She has a gift for nailing character development, tension, and edge-of-your seat suspense. Hunted on the Trail will keep readers turning pages long after they should have turned in for the evening. This is easily a five-star novel. Thanks once again, Dana, for a great book!!

This story is a clean Christian, suspense romance that will keep listeners on the edge of their seats throughout most of the story.
When former cop Stephanie Wolfe gets a call that there is a last minute opening in a very challenging search and rescue competition, she signs up with her K-9 Chloe.
Imagine her surprise when her ex Vance shows up to tell her this is a setup from a nemesis of their past. Not heeding his advice, Stephanie is determined to go on the trail and leaving Vance no other option than to go with her taking his recently rescued dog Pudge.
It soon becomes apparent that Vance was right and these two find themselves in a great deal of danger.
In the midst of it all, past hurts are revealed and feelings that they thought no longer existed, resurface.
Will they be able to stay ahead of the danger and finally capture the villain, or will it be too late for everyone? If they survive it all, is there a chance that their love have a chance a second time around?
The story moved smoothly and even though this listener had missed the first two books in the series, this one was definitely a stand alone.
The plot was engaging, and the main characters as we as their adorable pooches, likable.
Not to be forgotten is Abby Craden whose narration of the story brought it to life.
I was entrusted a copy of this audiobook by Netgalley and Harlequin Audio. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Thrilling Ride with Heart and Suspense!

Hunted on the Trail by Dana Mentink is a fast-paced romantic suspense that kept me hooked from the very first scene. This is the third book in the Security Hounds Investigations series, but I can confidently say it reads well as a standalone. I hadn’t read the previous books, yet I never felt lost—Mentink does a great job immersing readers in the current storyline without needing prior context.

The plot kicks off with Stephanie entering a tracking competition with her loyal Bloodhound, only to discover that she’s been lured into a trap. A dangerous fugitive with a vendetta is on the loose, and the stakes escalate quickly when Stephanie’s ex-boyfriend, Vance, is pulled into the chaos. The suspense is non-stop, and the chemistry between Stephanie and Vance adds a compelling emotional layer to the high-stakes action.

The audiobook narrator did a great job capturing the urgency of the plot and the emotional tension between the characters. The pacing felt just right, keeping me on edge without feeling rushed.

This book is a perfect blend of danger, determination, and second-chance romance. If you enjoy stories where loyal dogs play a key role, and where the line between love and danger blurs, this one’s for you.

Thank you to Harlequin Audio and NetGalley for the courtesy copy of this audiobook. I thoroughly enjoyed the listen and give it a solid 4 stars!
