This book was a delightful surprise. It seems this would be either a fluffy topic or too deep to enjoy, but, carefully, Alicia explains how important our emotions are, and highlights a healthy perspective on assessing and enjoying our own emotional well-being. Through sharing real life scenarios, some from personal experience and some from the stories of others, she gracefully explores the roles our emotions play in everyday life, and gives practical strategies on how to have confidence as we navigate all of life's ups and downs. Written from a Christian perspective and backed by science, the book clearly demonstrates how our brains and bodies function, using Scripture to guide just how beautiful it all comes together. She leaves the reader with very actionable steps on handling emotions, particularly if the struggle is with those trickier emotions such as worry, shame, discontentment or fear. The end of each chapter has thoughtful questions for consideration and free tools and resources for a deeper dive. This is a book could certainly be used as a workbook for personal growth, or even a fabulous resource in understanding others.

This book is the perfect blend of brain-based science, Biblical wisdom, and practical strategies. The tools in this book help you to acknowledge and respond to emotions in a productive and positive fashion. Alicia has a knack for sharing extremely relatable examples and practical techniques that can be put into practice right away. Her extensive experience in this area has tremendously supported her many clients, and now, through this amazing book, she can reach a wide audience who can benefit from her wisdom and insight. We all regularly deal with emotions and I highly recommend this book to everyone as a resource to support emotional health and well being.
Emotional Confidence gets a solid 5 stars from me! It is a uniquely successful combination of relatable storytelling, authentic empathy, compassionate correction, and pragmatic guidance with especially easy to consume delivery. Early in the book, I was rather intrigued with the partnering of science, psychology, and Biblical direction, and this proved incredibly supportive to the journey of this work. Combining all of the depth of the book along with practical instruction for implementation, it will definitely be a book that I reference back to as life happens.

Emotions can definitely get the best of me sometimes, especially because I'm a control freak and a preventer, but entering the chapter of being an empty nester has really caused my emotions to spike lately. Alica's book blessed me MIGHTILY on a night when my college freshman son called me to report that he was close to failing one of his classes. In particular, her 16 science and faith based suggestions for ways to calm down were REALLY effective and I have thought about those techniques several times since that crisis. This book will make a difference in the quality of your emotional life which will then bless your relationships with loved ones as well.

Insightful book with resources to help overcome emotional issues we all face. Alicia does an excellent job in this book giving ways to calm your emotional and grow spiritually.
I was not too sure what to expect from this book, but God knew (of course!) just what I needed to start the New Year. I have learned many things and feel I will be able to use many of Alicia's ideas this coming year. I recognize myself in the emotional issues and judgmental feelings Alicia discusses in this helpful book. I realize now how much I have used the wrong methods of acknowledging my flaws while at the same time believing that just "throwing out" the correct Scripture verses would make everything better. She encourages a deeper relationship with God and writing Scripture on your heart, including meditating on God's Word. Alicia has given me a different path that I trust will be successful. She has included downloadable assessments, quizzes, and worksheets that provide tangible support for using her ADD method. The Acknowledge, Discern, and Decide steps can be put into practice and become a part of a transformation to an improved relationship with God, others, and ourselves. It is hard to control our emotions but once we can scrutinize what these emotions are and how to counter first thoughts with God's attitude we will make better choices. Part 3 highlights six difficult emotions we face and helps us gain control over situations by giving examples of how the ADD steps will work. She is always God-honoring as she uses Bible verses and scenarios to help in resolutions. Part 4 is a great summation to keep improving. I have highlighted several passages throughout the book to be able to quickly refer to them as I put these new ideas into practice. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants emotional confidence.

Some books I read, gain a nugget or two from and don’t lol at it again. This is a book that I will be using as a reference and a tool for quite a while. All the information is good, with a powerful combination of science and scripture. The tips are practical and easy to implement into your life. The section on emotions is useful for working through issues, especially if you are willing to spend time honestly thinking through the questions. Great resource. A surprisingly good book that gives an easy method to manage emotions, that may well work pretty good. Many things was ringing true when reading, and it seemed solid, but is seems that the author is keeping back on the academics here, and that is a shame. The way the book is chaptered works pretty well, and in the end you are back with a relatively easy to remember ADD method. It is not very deep, but maybe enough.
Do not read anything else because Alicia has created a go to book for anyone in need of managing their emotions! This is not a book you can share so you will need to buy it for your family and friends because you are going to need the book as a constant reference in your life! All biblical information with real action steps on how to become emotionally confident!

I’m emotionally confident enough to tell you not to read this book UNLESS you need a very elementary guide on how to recognize your emotions and how to appropriately deal with them. She gives some good strategies, but nothing I haven’t heard before.
This might be the last "self-help" book you will ever buy! I have found most self help books give you A LOT of textbook info, but no real help. THIS is NOT that book! You will get real help right out of the gate. Step by step with many examples of different scenarios and how to apply them to your life. It may seem like a very different way of thinking, but it's our stinking thinking that created a need for something different in the first place. This book blends science with God's word effortlessly and beautifully. Bottom line, I will come back to this book again and again until this new way of thinking becomes a habit. Praise God for Emotional Confidence!
