Deadly Revenge

Rate this book
Deputy Jenna Hart has only been working in her sleepy hometown of Pearl Springs for seven months when city officials begin to be targeted by a killer. Twenty years ago, the construction of a dam caused people to lose their land to eminent domain. That wound has not healed with time, and someone bearing a grudge is clearly set on revenge. With the former mayor of Pearl Springs now running for the US Senate, Jenna will have to call in backup to ensure his protection.

That's where Agent Maxwell Anderson comes in. He and Jenna used to work together in the Chattanooga Police Department, and there was even a smoldering fire of attraction. Now they team up to track down the killer before a big political rally that promises to bring not only the former mayor into the crosshairs but hundreds of civilians as well.

As the sparks of romance reignite and the threads of the investigation get tangled when another suspect comes into play, Jenna and Max will have to draw on all of their skills to stay alive and prevent the wave of disaster poised to hit the community of Pearl Springs. The question is, can either of them fully trust that the other has their back?

Set an hour North of Chattanooga in the fictional town of Pearl Springs, Tennessee, Russell County Deputy Jenna Hart and Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Agent Maxwell Anderson are thrown together to protect a former mayor (now running for the US Senate) at his political rally.

Security detail is stressful enough, but when Jenna has the added pressure of working with her old boss and memories of her last ‘unpleasant’ interaction running through her mind, it’s difficult to set aside personal issues and focus on the task at hand. The thing is, she MUST. Two former city councilmen have been murdered and the killer has his sights set on the former mayor.

Things that worked really well:
✔️Interspersed chapters from the killer’s perspective; one with a grudge who is clearly set on revenge
✔️Main characters with a history and tension/smoldering attraction who must learn to work together
✔️Ex-fiance/dirty cop with possible drug connections who may be hampering an investigation
✔️Readers knowing more about the breaches in the FMC security

I love picking up a book to discover that it highlights flawed Christians who sometimes struggle to get it right. When I can identify with the struggle, I read to learn. So often I try to rely on myself (and fail, miserably) and books such as this one remind me to take the focus off my efforts and rely on God. I appreciated reading about characters who were blinded by love, struggled with starting over when the past kept calling, and were determined to make a difference in someone’s life.

Although the focus of this romantic suspense is revenge, I appreciated how the author wove in threads of faith and love to show how much more powerful they are when set against the human mindset of ‘getting even.’

If you are looking for a nail-biting romantic suspense that you’ll find difficult to set aside, grab a copy of Deadly Revenge

Deadly Revenge, third of the Pearl River series, is a suspenseful story that kept me turning the pages with interest and anticipation. Jenna Hart left Chattanooga PD after getting shot in a surveillance watch that went wrong and returned home to Pearl Springs to work as a Deputy. When local former and current politicians are targeted, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agent and Jenna's old boss Max Anderson is assigned the case because a Senate candidate is threatened. There is so much going on in Pearl Springs, unresolved anger from many years ago, and Jenna's past appears to be in play. Great characters, danger, action, and a multilayered mystery to unravel as well as a little romance make this book hard to put down. Highly recommended.
I received a copy for the purpose of an honest review. These are my thoughts.

Book 3 in the Pearl River Series

Blog Post Review:https://bookloveramanda.blogspot.com/...

What a great conclusion to the Pearl River Series! Set in Tennessee near Chattanooga in the fictional town of Pearl River, Russell County Deputy Jenna Hart and TBI Agent Maxwell Anderson work together to protect a former mayor who is running for the US Senate office. Max is also Jenna's old boss so they are familiar with each other. I loved learning more about Jenna's story and seeing her with Max was great. We see bits and pieces of her past when she was shot and is dealing with PTSD from those events, so when she is back in town, she is questioning everything -even the fact that someone could possibly be out to get her and sneaking around her home looking for some old incriminating photos she took from the past of some criminals.

I really liked the small town feel, as usual in Pat's books. As a Tennessee girl, I love her books so much for the settings and familiar towns and areas I know of, or can easily picture. The details about the dam were very interesting as I know about a lot of dams from East Tennessee where I grew up and could easily picture the issues going on there.

The romance between Max and Jenna was a slow burn, but nice because he really wanted to keep her safe, and I liked that. I did want a bit more in the romance but still a great romantic suspense overall. Fans of Christian romantic suspense will enjoy this series! The suspense element stands out for me in this one. While we knew who the bad guys were early, it was interesting to see their POV sometimes and kind of know what was going to happen next in a way as our main characters tried to figure everything out for themselves. Highly recommend.

Thank you to the publisher Revell for a copy to honestly read and review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Though Jenna Hart's experience as a detective in Chattanooga went bad, she still has good instincts. When the wrecker driver tells her that it looks as if a bolt and pin let go on a new vehicle on a mountain road killing two people, Jenna senses that something is wrong. Facing her former supervisor, now a TBI agent, to safeguard a senate candidate whose life has been threatened brings back bad memories from Chattanooga of being set up and shot by a slippery drug kingpin and her ex-fiancé.

TBI Agent Maxwell Anderson admired Jenna when they worked together. He feels bad that he kissed her goodbye at his farewell party and didn't get back to her. Jenna's claim that someone knocked her out in her house makes Maxwell wonder whether her PTSD is flaring up and whether the two can work together, but he can't deny his attraction to her.

When Jenna discovers the body of a former city councillor who served on the city council with the car accident victim and the threatened would-be senator, she and Maxwell need to find out who wants to kill the senatorial candidate before he comes to speak at a local outdoor celebration and why.

This was an exciting suspenseful read. Bradley hides the bad guys effectively and keeps the reader eagerly turning pages.

Definitely better than book two, but not as good as book one. Did not love how he seemed to think she was losing her mind for most of the book, though.

This was another great romantic suspense novel by Patricia Bradley! This is the 3rd book in the Pearl River series. It can stand completely alone, but to have the background of the side characters in this one, it's best to have read the series in order. This book follows Deputy Jenna Hart. Fans of the series will know who she is and it's good to finally get some of her story. There were a couple of intertwining plots going on with this one, which kept me turning pages and wondering if they were connected. Three years ago when an op went awry, Jenna suffered PTSD after getting shot. Now back in her hometown, she begins to question her own sanity when things start happening that she can't explain and can't prove. In the meantime, politicians from 20 years prior start receiving threats and begin turning up dead. Can they solve the case(s) before someone else is murdered?

I enjoyed the small town feel of this book, and the fact that there was romantic history between the main characters so that the romance didn't feel so fast paced. I also enjoyed the many threads woven into this story that kept the multiple mystery elements interesting. There was a more subtle but present faith thread included as well. The suspense element was well done and though I thought I knew who the culprit was, it turns out I really didn't. There were parts of the story that felt a bit redundant, but overall this was a great romantic suspense novel and a great ending to this series. Special thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an advance e-copy of this book. I was under no obligation to provide a review and the thoughts contained herein are my own.

I really enjoyed this book and I'm glad I got the chance to read it. The cover is stunning! The characters were likable, the setting unique. And the mystery had me wondering what was going to happen next!

Characters: Jenna was my favorite. She was courageous, but suffered from memories of her past. This opened the door for the "bad guy" to get inside her head. She had to overcome a lot of mental challenges as she regained her confidence as a deputy. Agent Maxwell Anderson, he was good at what he did, but I wasn't a huge fan of the way he would respond to conflict. I liked him for the most part though.

I'm a little surprised that they both didn't catch the break-ins sooner. They both were really smart, but it took them a little too long to realize someone had put bugs in her house.

Setting: I liked how this book captured the small town relationships. There was a few outings with coon dog training with Jenna's dad, I found that to be a unique aspect (not that I like hunting, but because I've never come across that in fiction before).

I thought its was super neat that the MC had a horse! I always liked the chapters where the horse barn was mentioned. The suspense was great!

It was almost like two mysteries rolled into one, but the plot kept me on the edge of my seat.

I look forward to reading more books by this author! Patrica Bradley always weaves entertaining plots, heartfelt characters, and interesting settings into her books. If you enjoy Christian suspense, I would recommend giving this one a try!

This is part of a series but each novel focuses on a different character so it reads well on its own. Jenna and Max had previously known each other. The romance here starts out a bit rocky but then proceeds quickly. Jenna has PTSD from her previous law enforcement experience. While she has gone to therapy and it is under control, a villain is trying to shake her confidence. It irritated me that Max did not believe her when she claimed, more than once, an intruder in her home. I do wish he would have suspended his “no evidence” thought and had more trust in her.

The current trouble has roots in the past. Jenna and Max work hard at digging into the past, uncovering information slowly. That mystery is woven around the current investigation so readers have two plot lines to keep their interest. There is good suspense and a good faith message making this another entertaining inspirational romantic suspense from Bradley.

Deadly Revenge by Patricia Bradley is the first book I’ve read of her long list of mystery/suspense novels. The twists and turns kept me turning pages. Try as I might, I couldn’t decipher this mystery until the culprit was revealed. I’m looking forward to reading many more of her stories.

Deadly Revenge by Patricia Bradley features two mysteries rolled into one. Bradley does a wonderful job at creating the mystery from the heroine and hero's perspective. The plot kept me guessing as I flowed through the pages. Even though Bradley did tell who the bad person was pretty soon in the book, it was nice to be able to follow the story to see how she has the characters figure out the plot. On the other hand, the romance took a little time to develop trust between the two characters because of a rocky past. The storyline was a little different with the feeling of similiarity to other romantic suspense novels. Familiar readers with the previous books in the Pearl River novels will be happy to see familiar characters and a familiar setting. Overall, Deadly Revenge by Patricia Bradley fits right into the romantic suspense genre and will satisfy readers of this genre.

“Don’t ever forget God’s on the side of justice.“

I have so loved each book in the Pearl River series by Patricia Bradley, and Deadly Revenge is no exception. From the beginning of the story, where we open with an intense scene from Jenna’s time as a police officer in Chattanooga and then zero in on the POV of a villain with nefarious purposes in Pearl River three years later, I was hooked and couldn’t put it down.

I enjoyed getting to know Jenna as well as her backstory better in this book. She’s a genuinely likable character who was easy to root for, not only in her investigations but also where her safety and her happily-ever-after are concerned. And while she hasn’t been on the Pearl River police force for long, her roots there run deep. As a result, we get to know her dad, her uncle, and her grandmother too (all interesting characters in their own right), and it’s a great plot device to help us dig into the layers surrounding at least one of the mysteries. Namely because small towns would much rather talk to one of their own than a stranger like TBI Agent Maxwell Anderson (whose past attraction to Jenna makes for some delicious sparks when they work closely together here).

The stakes are nail-bitingly high in Deadly Revenge too, so there’s not a moment to waste when it comes to getting the information they need. You see, along with a rash of murders in Pearl River, Jenna herself seems to be the target of a different sort of revenge plot. Unless… maybe it’s just her PTSD rearing back up and it’s all in her head? I loved the fact that we readers get to see both sides of the psychological games being played with Jenna, and I equally loved how Patricia Bradley used it to insert some plausible speed bumps in Jenna and Max’s growing feelings for one another. Max is a good guy, and I enjoyed getting to know him better too. He’s steady and protective and, even though he isn’t sure that someone IS out to get Jenna, he also respects her intelligence, her instincts, and her ability to do her job. Between his past and hers – and the current dangers they face – there is a meaningful faith thread about how God is ultimately the One in control and to Whom vengeance belongs, and it’s woven naturally into the story rather than distracting from the plot.

Bottom Line: In Deadly Revenge, author Patricia Bradley deftly juggles a complex plot, a sweet romance, and even a bit of psychological suspense in this picturesque Tennessee mountain town that’s full of layered characters. I loved that we know who some of the villains are upfront but also that we see the POV of another killer who remains in the shadows until a surprising twist reveals all near the end. This makes the suspense all the more chilling and creates a sense of not knowing who can be trusted – exactly the kind of story I can’t put down. Throw in a spark-filled romance and some poignant faith discussions – both of which organically complement the suspense plot – and I’m a very happy reader. Set it in my happy place too? Yep, I’m on cloud nine! While this is the conclusion of the series, it can be read as a standalone just fine. I do hope that we might at some point return to Pearl River for another visit, but I’ll look forward to wherever Patricia Bradley takes us next! (Which is actually back to one of my fave series by her so yay!)

Deadly Revenge by Patricia Bradley is the third book in the Pearl River series. I enjoyed book two, but I have to say, I loved this one more.
Jenna Hart is a police deputy who has moved back to her hometown of Pearl River within the last year. She is possibly still dealing with PTSD from events that happened three years earlier, which we read about in the prologue. A TSI agent, Maxwell Anderson, who she used to work with arrives in town to help with a rally where the candidate for senate has been threatened. To her dismay, they find themselves working together when a car accident takes the life of a local politician and his wife. But was it really an accident. And is it somehow related to the threats the candidate for senate has received? And are there others who are in danger? Why does someone seem to be targetting certain people?
And to add to the suspense, there appears to be someone out to discredit Jenna's sanity, and maybe even implicate her in some other crimes. Is there a way that these different crimes are connected, or are there separate bad guys that our heroes need to deal with?
The reader also gets to read the point of view of the villain(s), so we know a bit more than the police and agents do. And we have some idea who they are dealing with. Because we get to see what the bad guys are doing, it adds to the suspense.
If you like a decent amount of suspense in your romantic suspense books, you are going to find it in this story. And yes, there is a second chance relationship going on here. Though there are some issues to work through.
This was a book I did not want to have to set down. I needed to know who the killer was and if and how the different crimes were connected. And I hate when characters are being made to look bad in the eyes of others, and I need to see justice served. So, this book gripped me and wouldn't let go.
And I also loved that we got updates on the past relationships from the previous books. Which is why I would recommend reading the series in order, even though each book's story can stand alone.
I received an e-copy of this book through NetGalley and was not required to write a favorable review. These are my own honest thoughts.

Officer Jenna Hart returns to her hometown for a change of pace after being injured in a drug incident gone wrong in Chattanooga. But things in the sleepy town of Pearl Springs turn sinister when people die in mysterious circumstances. TBI agent, Max Anderson, was Jenna’s boss in Chattanooga. Max is in town to set up security for a notable politician, and shows up at a crime scene surprising Jenna. While helping each other seek out clues, they wonder what might have been in their past relationship.
This was a complicated, whodunit plot that kept me guessing. And the psychological games that the bad guy was playing with, Jenna had me on pins and needles. The romance was slow, but showed how Jenna and Max were learning to rely on each other. There was a solid faith thread that focused on the clear difference between right and wrong, looking to God for guidance and acknowledging that He is in control.
Do not miss this intriguing story of second chances and mysteries unresolved in the past.

I've been looking forward to this book, and it did not disappoint. This whole series has kept me on the edge of my seat, but this one is my favorite. I was invested from the very first paragraph and could hardly set the book down to tend to other things. I finished it in record time. It was intriguing and suspenseful the whole way through.

I really liked Jenna and Max. They made a great team as they worked together to solve the baffling crimes going on around town. There were some things they had to work through, but I was rooting them on the whole time.

It was really interesting (and infuriating) hearing about what happened when the dam was built and the trouble it caused and might still be causing twenty years later. The tension and intrigue kept rising as the story progressed and had me turning the pages as fast as possible, eager to discover the outcome.

This was a fantastic romantic suspense that had a dash of psychological thriller thrown into the mix. I highly recommend it! Even though it's book three in the series, it stands alone perfectly fine.

{Thank you to @revellfiction for my gifted copy of this title in exchange for an honest review.}

This story was such a ride! I can’t wait to go back and read the first two books of the Pearl River series.

I loved the tension and history between the FMC and the MMC in this story. Plus, I always enjoy it when the author gives occasional chapters from the villain’s POV–fascinating!

The suspense was high in this story and the plot kept me guessing. I didn’t start to figure out who the villain was until right before it was revealed. I love it when you can’t be sure! There were so many elements and even storylines going on in this story, but it all came together seamlessly in the end.

This book is a work of Christian fiction and has light faith elements throughout.

Highly recommend this title!

Intense Christian mystery suspense plot. Light on the romance.

Jenna has her suspicions that a popular, prominent citizen's accident might be have been homicide. While investigating, she's shaken when her new boss teams her with a Max, her old boss. Sparks flew between them at his going away party when he publicly kissed her. He never contacted her after that.

She had a bad breakup with her next cop boyfriend who set her up as a dirty cop. Feeling watched, Jenna struggles with her boss and Max thinking she's slipped back into PTSD. She needs to prove herself and also decide if she's willing to open herself up to love.

As more prominent citizens die, Jenna and Max race to find the connection between them.
Compelling read.

Pearl River, book #3

Deputy Jenna Hart has been working Pearl Springs for sometime now when city officials begin to be targeted by a killer. Is someone bearing a grudge and is set on revenge after the construction of a dam forced people to move out… Agent Maxwell Anderson is assigned to the case and will work along with Jenna to solve the mystery….and as the investigation progresses and the teams track down the killer….a smoldering attraction sparks into a romance…. Awe.

This mystery has a bit of everything: a killer, some suspense, a bit of teasing romance, subdued action, some tension, has an interesting premise, good actors, nicely written, clean language, some chapters from the killer’s point of view and a multilayered mystery to unravel. In general, this story is well-done and should please all who enjoy an entertaining journey with a light overlay of romance and faith.

“Deadly Revenge” , pulled my away from my usual read and it gave me a refreshing change, so nice to have from time to time.

Deadly Revenge, the third and final book in the Pearl River series begins with a bang. While I recommend the books be read in order, this one could also be read as a standalone novel.

The following lines struck me as funny "Killing someone was the easy part. Manipulating the evidence was another matter." At the time it is said, we don't know which of the bad guys is speaking.

After being burned by her ex-fiancé, Jenna has a hard time trusting people. Years ago she trusted Max, but he left and never contacted her again. She was hurt by his silence. Now, Max is back in the picture, and Jenna has to work with him. While it takes her a while to trust him again, they work well together.

Max and Jenna both had issues they had to work through. They have strong character growth as the story progresses, even building a friendship. The story has quite a bit going on at one time, but it is easy to keep it straight. While some things are revealed early, the suspense continues to build as the story reaches an epic ending.

Thank you to Revell for the opportunity to read this book. I was not required to provide a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.

Bring on the intensity! Deadly Revenge was full of twists & turns & definitely kept me turning the pages. In this latest romantic suspense from Patricia Bradley, it all comes down to the wire as two former coworkers must work together to protect a Senate candidate & the general public from a deadly assassination attempt.

Deputy Jenna Hart’s returned to her hometown of Pearl Springs after witnessing a drug deal gone wrong which implicated her former boyfriend. Still suffering from PTSD, she begins to question everything when someone appears to have been in her home on several occasions. She’s also in the middle of an investigation surrounding the murders of several city officials who all have ties to an eminent domain case that resulted in several residents losing their homes & the construction of a dam. It’s obvious someone’s out for revenge & the next target is the former mayor now running for U.S. Senate.

To top it off, Jenna’s former coworker Agent Maxwell Anderson has been called in to assist with the case. When they last saw each other, they shared a searing kiss before Jenna left for Pearl Springs. But, Max never contacted her after & Jenna’s reluctant to open her heart again.

As they work to solve two mysteries, they face danger at every turn. Jenna has evidence someone desperately wants & a killer who enjoys toying with her. As she & Max grow closer, they have to rely on each other & their faith to bring two killers to justice.

This book had me on pins & needles! The two cases were interesting & completely different. There’s nothing creepier than feeling like someone’s been in your house & the author captures that feeing so well. Jenna’s frustration at the gaslighting is palpable.

I enjoyed Jenna’s relationship with Max. The underlying romantic tension between them was so good. I enjoyed how they worked through their past & learned to trust each other. Loved their sweet friends/colleagues to more romance & only wish we’d seen even more of them together.

It was nonstop action with the ending culminating in a tense, race against time climax. I enjoyed getting perspectives from not only Jenna & Max but the killers too. It made things all the more intense.

Highly recommend to Christian romantic suspense fans! Though part of a series, it can be read as a standalone, but those familiar with previous books will enjoy seeing familiar faces. I received an advanced complimentary copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own and voluntarily provided.

I just finished reading Patricia Bradley’s latest installment of the Pearl River Series and I absolutely loved it! Jenna Hart is such a compelling character—spunky, smart, but also haunted by the past. She's been trying to find her way after the fallout from an undercover operation, one that ended with a broken heart thanks to her ex-fiancé's betrayal. I found her journey relatable and endearing as she tackled her fears while also trying to do her job as Deputy of Pearl Springs.

When a series of murders targeting city officials hits her sleepy hometown, Jenna has to protect not just her community but also her heart. Enter TBI Agent Maxwell Anderson—tough, capable, and yet surprisingly sensitive. He and Jenna have history from their days on the Chattanooga Police Department, where sparks of attraction were always present, but things were left unresolved, leaving Jenna questioning whether he was really trustworthy. Now, with a killer on the loose and a political rally threatening to put countless lives in danger, Max and Jenna find themselves working side by side once more. The chemistry between them was so fun to watch; the way it slowly reignites was just as thrilling as the mystery itself.

Normally, I try to guess who the antagonist is, but this time, I couldn't figure it out—and honestly, that made the experience even better. It kept me on the edge of my seat, enjoying each twist and revelation as the story unfolded. The pacing of the investigation, the political intrigue, and the added tension of their complicated personal relationship kept me hooked all the way through. Jenna and Max really had to learn how to trust each other again, which added a beautiful layer of depth to the action.

Overall, this book offered everything I wanted: gripping suspense, heartfelt moments, and characters who felt real and flawed. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a blend of romance and thrilling mystery.

DEADLY REVENGE by Patricia Bradley, the third installment in the Pearl River Series, was romance/suspense at its best!

Deputy Jenna Hart has suffered a devastating blow in her law enforcement career, but joining the Russell County department is her way of taking her life back. Unfortunately, the PTSD she suffers is always right under the surface, but she is handling it. That is until TBI agent, Max Anderson, someone she had sparks with in the past, shows up to help on a joint effort between their two agencies.

Max can’t believe he will be teaming up with Jenna Hart, someone he definitely felt a connection with at a time when a relationship was out of the question. Though he lost track of her once he transferred out, seeing her again ignites feelings from the past.

Together, Jenna and Max must figure out who is killing off city officials and why. With a former Mayor running for US Senate and planning a campaign rally in the local park, time is running out. However, other strange occurrences have Jenna feeling as if she is being targeted. Though Max says he has her back, she can’t help but feel he’s questioning her ability to separate the past from the present. She’s determined to prove she’s not imagining these odd occurrences while time is ticking away on a killer who isn’t finished making his point.

Jenna and Max have chemistry that the reader feels right away. Even though they have past baggage, they still have feelings for each other. The reader can’t help but cheer them on, pray they work through their difference, and stop beating around the bush. I appreciated Jenna’s strong, independent streak, and Max’s realization that she is complicated but worth the effort. Some of the secondary characters like Jenna’s dad and grandma round out the story, along with some of the townsfolk, and of course, Alex Stone from book one in the series.

Patricia Bradley knows how to craft a story with strong, complex characters, who bring both suspense and a little bit of heat to the page.

Though I was given a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for a review, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

I forgot I had read book 2 in this series until I picked up Deadly Revenge last week. Unfortunately, I much prefer Fatal Witness, for its characters if nothing else.

Story: 4/5

Worldview: 3/5

The story had a really interesting premise, with a great start in the first few chapters. The added element of seeing the villain's POV was really cool! With every new character introduced, I was trying to put the pieces together to see if I could figure out who it was (I didn't, haha). The mystery alone was pretty solid, but there were points where the story felt almost too complicated for the length of the novel. Even by the end, a few plot threads were left unresolved. Or they were so quickly resolved that I didn't really feel the resolution.

The two main characters, Jenna and Max, had little chemistry and most of the attraction between them felt physical more than real connection. In the first few chapters, you learn that they had kissed at an office Christmas party. Even though Jenna and Max were new characters in this book, I was left with the distinct impression that I had missed something important. (I didn't, but that initial feeling of being unsettled never really went away.) By the 50% mark, the story picked up again, and all in all I would say it was entertaining.

The worldview was fine. I didn't expect much of a faith message in this book, and it didn't have one. The main themes of the novel revolved around trust, both others and yourself. Jenna as a character struggled with PTSD and second-guessing herself. The villain of the novel played into her PTSD, but after about the 60% mark it became really annoying to see that no one believed Jenna.

Overall thoughts: In any case, if you're looking for a light, entertaining story, you'll probably enjoy Deadly Revenge. I prefer a little more substance in the novels I read, and I couldn't really connect with the characters and plot, so I was left disappointed with this one.

Note: I received a free eARC of this book from Netgalley. All opinions expressed are my own.

Jenna Hart has returned to her small hometown of Pearl Springs after being shot while working in the gang unit of the Chattanooga PD. Because of her injury and subsequent PTSD, she doesn't feel comfortable working in the big city environment. As a Deputy on the small town force of Pearl Springs, she thinks that her life will be easier.

However, she soon finds herself embroiled in a decades old controversy surrounding the building of a dam in the area. Two former city councilors involved in getting it built have died under mysterious circumstances. And, the former mayor during this time is running for the US Senate and has been receiving threats.

Enter Jenna's former colleague, Agent Maxwell Anderson, who now works for the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and has been tasked with providing protection for the candidate. As Jenna and Max try to figure out their feelings for each other, strange things start to happen in her home. Jenna is sure that the gang leader who shot her (or her ex-fiancee who is working with him) is involved in these strange occurrences. However, Max is beginning to think that she is simply suffering from PTSD and she is imagining things.

There is plenty of action and police work in this story as Jenna and Max try to find out the truth behind these deaths, as well as who or what is causing the disturbing incidents surrounding Jenna. The author has also worked in a few fun side stories about equestrian dressage and coon hunting dogs that I enjoyed a lot.

The book has a few mentions of violence, but nothing graphic. The romance is on the sweet side and the couple's budding relationship is a nice addition to the drama of the book. The book also contains many references to God and faith. My favorite quote: "Don't ever forget God's on the side of justice. He has this." This is a good reminder for us all! I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell through Interviews & Reviews for my honest opinion.

Wow! If you're looking for romantic suspense, pick this one up NOW! Deadly Revenge wraps up Patricia Bradley's Pearl River series with a plot that keeps her main character, Jenna Hart, second-guessing what she knows to be true.

As a detective and the only woman in the gang unit in the Chattanooga Police Department, Jenna Hart gets sidelined nearly every operation. When she is sent out to "watch and report" on a possible drug deal, she steps in to save the life of a child and ends up being shot herself. The PTSD she suffers afterward further cements (in the minds of her superiors) that a woman can't handle the pressure of the job. Relegated to desk work, she resigns and heads home to Pearl River, Tennessee where she is hired as a detective with the Sheriff's department. When a prominent local couple is killed in an "accident", Jenna discovers the clue that says it was sabotage. As a third body is found with strong ties to the first, can she find a killer even as her past comes back to threaten her?

TBI agent Max Anderson fell for Jenna back when he was her supervisor on the Chattanooga police force. Their only kiss came as they wrapped up their op. She moved up to detective and he moved out to TBI. When TBI is asked to provide protection for a prominent senatorial candidate in Pearl River, it only takes one look for Max to remember the feelings he had for Jenna. As the danger surrounding Jenna ramps up, can he protect both her and the candidate when she keeps saying she can take care of herself? Working together, can they find the person threatening the candidate before he kills again?

I LOVE Bradley's books. Her characters are smart, capable, and willing to help others. Deadly Revenge qualifies as a second chance romance for Jenna and Max, but the suspense holds the reader's attention throughout the story. I look forward to whatever Bradley writes NEXT!

Phew! A gripping police procedural that turned this into an unstoppable read. Absolutely love the investigative aspects to this suspense. It’s the focus of the plot though there is also a creepy undertone simmering in the background. Sent delicious chills up my spine a time or two. And when it comes time for action, it explodes off the page in a breath-snatching fury. I’ve just now managed to get my heart rate down.

Max and Jenna worked together before in another police department and there was definitely a smouldering attraction between the two until…well stuff happened. Fast forward a few years and they have both experienced enough grief in the romance department to be wary of rekindling an old flame. The tension between these two is palpable from the onset – equal parts awkward and anticipatory. All while they’re grappling with a complicated case that seems to stretch into the past.

‘Deadly Revenge’ is riveting on so many levels. Love the way the author develops the relationship between Max and Jenna. It’s slow and measured and built on respect. And believably sidelined (most of the time) in deference to the case they are working on. And there are so many intricate layers to the suspense plot that kept me on the edge of my seat and frantically trying to put the pieces together before Max and Jenna did. I was right…some of the time…but wrong a lot more. Love when a suspense gives my mind a good workout!

This is the third and last book in the Pearl River series but works fine as a standalone. We do get to see a lot of Alex (heroine from book one) as a secondary character though, in her role as sheriff. And there’s a wonderful epilogue that brings all the series’ heroes and heroines together for one final ‘hurrah’ for readers.

Deadly Revenge by Patricia Bradley is a compelling, contemporary Christian crime suspense which I loved. It is the third book in the Pearl River series but can be read as a stand-alone. I recommend reading the books in order for character familiarity and progression.
Once more the reader returns to Pearl River to watch the pursuit of justice. There is a different pair of main characters to focus on.
As the title suggests, there are those seeking revenge, many years after the original event.
We see the damage done to a community by unscrupulous politicians many years before. Someone wants them to pay – but who?
The leading lady is a police officer who has recently suffered from PTSD. This leaves her questioning her judgement as others mess with her mind. She is far wiser than she believes.
Old colleagues are reunited due to their jobs. The spark that was there before is just waiting to be re-ignited – if only they will take a chance.
We witness characters who have been hurt by previous partners. They fear getting hurt again. It is always worth taking a chance on love.
All the characters were well drawn and believable. We witness personal struggles and issues that are very relevant. We need to view ourselves and others through the eyes of God. “What she thought about him didn’t matter – it was how God saw him.” We need to look at the face in the mirror using the lens of God too.
Even on the darkest night, God is there. “God has this – it didn’t take Him by surprise.” Events may surprise us but God always has it covered. We need to trust Him and rest in His unfailing grace.
Deadly Revenge was an exciting and entertaining read. All the books in this series would translate perfectly to a television mini series as they are all griping tales too.
I received a free copy from the publishers. A favourable review was not required. All opinions are my own.
