Killer in the Kennel by Caridad Pineiro South Beach Security: K-9 Division series#3. Harlequin Intrigue. Diverse Romantic suspense. The K-9 Division is a spin off of the prior SBS series. Can be read as a stand-alone though some secondary characters from prior stories play roles here. Jose Gonzalez is a real estate agent. He has deliberately distanced himself from the family business. He agrees to help South Beach Security find land appropriate for its growing K-9 Division. Jose and search-and-rescue specialist Sara Hernandez are walking the new property when her bloodhound finds buried bodies. Two missing women from several years ago are identified and during the investigation, an arrow is shot at them, and a small explosion occurs. Clearly someone is trying to warn them away but finding more bodies means SBS is not going to walk away. Can they find the killer before someone else dies?
Fast moving action and attraction for Jose and Sara as they try to find a killer. Lots of Spanish words in the text that were discernible even if not directly translated. Hero bloodhound. Some personal issues for the two draw them together in support. Gripping with danger. The killer is close.
"Killer in the Kennel" by Caridad Pineiro is book three in the "South Beach Security: K9 Division" series. This is probably my favorite series by Caridad. I enjoyed reading about K9, Bongo, and her handler, Sara. The South Beach Security team is opening up a new facility to train K9s and their handlers when things start going badly at the property they purchased. Jose feels responsible because he is the one who found the land and decides to help Sara out when trying to figure out who is doing all of the murders on the property. Jose also didn't want anything to do with his family's security business. I really enjoyed the connection between Sara and her K9, Bongo. I also liked how the family is always there when they need help. Caridad does such an amazing job with getting your attention and keeping you turning the pages to see what happens next.
Killer in the Kennel is a fantastic addition to the series. Each book can be standalone but characters from each book appear in others. This book features two individuals from high-powered, intense families and don’t feel like they fit in. They’re determined to go their own way despite family expectations. This story features a creepy murder mystery and two people perfect for each other. A thrilling read.
Best of the series so far! It was fun finally learning more about Jose/Pepe and how he fits in with the family. The mystery and romance were both well paced and kept my interest.
