Steve is fine. He has a loving family, a great job that he loves, a beautiful home in San Francisco, a grumpy cat who pees in people’s shoes, and the best of all best friends. Apart from a messy divorce, his life is smooth sailing, and he is fine—that is, until he meets Ally and realizes fine might not be enough.
One weekend with her, and he can’t imagine not seeing her again. Except she disappears without a trace, and he doesn’t know how to find her. Add to that his best friend getting married, his ex-wife barging in with ridiculous demands, Colonel Mustard having health issues, and an old acquaintance bursting into his life, and Steve’s calm and ordered life is ancient history.
Wow, what a book! I thought it would be funnier based on the blurb. While there is some wry humor in it, it's more serious and poignant and written with a great deal of emotion and feeling. It's an excellent story about love, longing, acceptance and forgiveness.
Once you start reading, you won't want to put it down. Steve and Ally's story deserves to be told and deserves to be read. If you are looking for a romance that is quite different, with ups and downs but is ultimately uplifting, read this book. Highly recommended.
At first, I thought it was a book about hope or dreams (maybe I was influenced by this small smiling cloud), but soon after the first page, I felt like in clouds, light, and liberated.
I must confess, tears welled up sometimes.
Real character development occurs throughout the story. Characters change and evolve. Action rises, and love emerges.
It hurt to get out of my cloud. So much so, in fact, that I experienced a book hangover. I had to go back to it several times and re-read my favorite parts.
