“You are no monster. I see you, and I’m in love with all of your broken parts Callum. I’m in love with the chaos and beauty of your heart.”

Heed the TW’s. This is definitely a DARK captive romance. A nice, fast listen and gets rolling from jump. The audio is SO GOOD! The narrator’s did an amazing job portraying the emotion and trauma of their characters. The male narrator voicing both brothers was PHENOMENAL at changing tone and personality. That. Ending. KAYLAAA 😫 HIGHLY Recommend 🕊️🖤

✨️ARC BOOK REVIEW✨️

First and foremost, a huge thank you to the author, Kayla Marie, for sending me the ARC for Broken Little Dove ❤️

In this gripping tale, we delve into the lives of Lana and two brothers, Callum and Cole. Fifteen years after Cole's incarceration for their abusive father's murder, his release marks the beginning of a tumultuous journey. As Callum grapples with the realization that his brother has changed, Cole's actions escalate, leading to the abduction of Lana. Caught between loyalty to his brother and the desire to protect Lana, Callum faces an agonizing dilemma. With each passing day, Cole's behavior mirrors their father's, plunging Lana into a nightmare of abuse and assault. However, when Callum reaches his breaking point, the course of their lives takes a dramatic turn.

WARNING: This book contains graphic scenes of rape and assault that may be triggering for some readers. However, despite the harrowing content, the story is masterfully crafted. Amidst the heart-wrenching moments between Lana and Cole, the budding connection between Lana and Callum offers a glimmer of hope. Kayla's portrayal of Callum's internal struggle is palpable, drawing readers into the emotional turmoil of the characters.

Despite the darkness, there are moments of warmth and connection that illuminate the narrative. The unexpected twist at the end adds an extra layer of intrigue to the story. Overall, this dark romance is a compelling read that skillfully explores complex relationships and the depths of human emotion.

Broken Little Dove by Kayla Marie is a very dark captive romance. Please check the trigger warnings. This book gets dark quickly. Two brothers kidnap a girl and lock her in their basement. It goes downhill from there, but hope is still to be found from one of the brothers. I enjoyed the story, even though some parts were hard to stomach. It is well written, and the twists and turns at the end had me tearing up. I look forward to reading more work from this author.

The audiobook is narrated in duet by Lark Holloway and Sean Masters. Lark brings so much emotion to her performances, which is definitely a highlight in this audiobook. I could really feel the FMCs suffering. Sean made it effortless to distinguish between the brothers. He performed the light and dark perfectly, showing just how versatile he is as a narrator. The perfect narration for such a dark story.

I’d like to thank Sparks Fly Studios for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook.

Alright y’all, this is a book that I beta read for Kayla Marie called Broken Little Dove. As a beta read I did NOT go in expecting this to be a 5 star read but this hit all the marks that I needed it to.
I cannot wait for this to be released and for y’all to get a chance to read this!

This is a captive romance between one of the captors (brothers) and the captured FMC. The older brother was just released from prison and is holding a captive female that the younger brother takes interest in. It’s not your typical obsessive and possessive dark romance but definitely is a darker romance with a list of trigger warnings that come with it.

I gave this 5⭐️ and 4🌶️ for the spice, though there is a lot of not so nice spice. Again I’m super excited for her to be ready to release this! Look out for it!

Thank you Kayla for the opportunity to beta read this! I loved every minute of it

Dark, Steamy, and OMG 🕊️💔🔥
4.5/5⭐️

Broken Little Dove is a wild ride from start to finish. It's intense, it's emotional and real. Kayla Marie came out swinging with this debut, and I am here for it. 👏👏👏

I was on the edge of my seat right from the start! I love Lana and her strength, Callum I fell for pretty fast! Y'all. The ending had me shook. My heart was racing, I was on the edge of my seat, and I was living for every second of it. It's poetic and intense at the same time!

If audiobooks are your jam, you're in for a treat. Lark Holloway and Sean Masters narrate this bad boy, and they absolutely kill it. They bring so much emotion to the table, you'll feel like you're right there in the story. It's chef's kissperfection.

Broken Little Dove is dark. Like I’m talking pitch black dark!

Fair Warning ⚠️
This book goes there. Like, way there. If you're not into dark themes, maybe sit this one out. We're talking:
* Captive situations
* Non-con vibes
* Kidnapping
* Other heavy stuff
Seriously, check those trigger warnings. This ain't your grandma's romance novel.

Trust me, you'll be just as obsessed as I am. And you'll be dying to see what Kayla Marie writes next. I know I am! 🙌

This story is not for the faint of heart and will take you on a dark and emotional journey about breaking free from darkness.

As a therapist I appreciated the way this story was handled and how the difficult topics were navigated. The trauma rep from all characters was beautifully written - but this is such a dark story that readers should proceed with caution.

The narration in this audiobook made rhetorical story even more heart wrenching. This was my first by both Lark Halloway and Sean Masters, and I was absolutely blown away by how much emotion they brought to these characters.

Their narration had me enthralled into this story and truly brought these characters to life. I cannot wait to listen to more from these amazing narrators.

(I received this book as an ALC)
First off, heed the trigger warnings. This is a DARK GRAPHIC Romance. I’m not one to be triggered by elements in Dark Romance but the on page graphic scenes had me taking pause. The story is hard and sadly can and does happen. I found myself getting angry in general and just so disappointed in Callum. I understood his position but at the same time was just so frustrated with his standby attitude where it really mattered. I know the signs of good storytelling is evoking pure emotion from a reader regarding a character or storyline and Kayla definitely did that for me. What drives a person to commit these acts kept circling in my mind. Pain shouldn’t be eased by inflicting pain and Kayla does a great job in showcasing the circle of pain that Cole has and gives. His past demons and scars poison the future his brother was hoping to have with him. It’s such a sad story of loss and not just physical loss, but the memories of a brother who bravely sacrificed himself to only then grossly tarnish his heroic act.
Lark and Sean do a great job in portraying the harsh darkness of this story. Sean gives 2 distinct voices to Cole and Callum and really brings forth Cole’s darkness and grit. For Callum he gives him a strong demeanor but also displays the softer emotional side of a brother losing the idea of his brother and the softness he feels for Lana.

🌶️🌶️

So this book/audiobook is definitely not an easy read/listen in terms of the dark topics it touches.

***Please read the trigger warnings before starting it. Some of the dark topics are non-con, talk of abusive parent, physical harm, and pew pews.

I thought this would be my first DNF because of some of those topics but I’m glad I kept listening. (Has some similarities in darkness like Hunting Adeline)

I don’t want to give any spoilers away but it does have an HEA if you are on the fence about it.

Also I was not expecting the ending. Normally HEA endings are kind of-if not predictable but I can honestly say this one was not predictable.

If you guys have read my reviews before, you know I love when authors include their playlist and this playlist was perfect!!!
(I added the authors playlist in my Apple Music library under Beoken Little Dove-Kayla Marie if anyone is interested)

I was sent the ALC by SparksFly Studios and the audiobook was ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ in my opinion.
It is narrated by Lark Holloway and Sean Masters.
They both did a great job in this duet style narration.
Narrators are voice actors and they did such an incredible job switching between voices for the characters. Especially Sean when voicing the mmc and the antagonist. I also love how his character as the mmc is with the fmc. (You’ll understand what I mean when you read/listen to it)
I hated the antagonist so much more.
The mmc ultimately had to decide if he will continue to make cowardly decisions or get over his fear and step up.

Lark was able to portray the fear and other emotions perfectly as well.
I don’t know if I’ll ever listen to this audiobook again just because of the dark stuff listed above but I would definitely listen to another audiobook with these two!

First off congratulations to Kayla on her first story I finished this in one sitting I could not put it down. I was worried with the length being under 200 pages for the story that there would be missing pieces but there was not I went through so many emotions while reading it is an amazing story.

This is a dark romance please check your trigger warnings. There were moments when I was reading this story especially in the beginning thinking I should have a stronger reaction to this but I had to continue to see what was going to happen.

This is a captive/captor story and it shows that there is more than one way to be a captive in the physical sense and mentally. It also shows you that even family can be toxic and manipulative and what happens if you let that them slide due to that relationship the negative effects.

You will get the POV of MC the FMC and the captor which you don’t usually get that view and it was intriguing to have that horrible thought process.

That ending thank god my kindle has a case that holds it up because when I gasped and put my hands to my face my kindle would have been toast. I cannot wait to see what more Kayla has coming up.

This was a fast paced, dark romance novella with suspense elements in it. Make sure to check triggers before reading/listening. Callum has been struggling with his traumatic past. So when his brother, Cole gets released from prison. Callum thinks he will finally be able to move on. However, plans change when their new captive, Lana gets Callum's attention. As their bond deepens a rift forms between the brothers. Cole is torn between his growing affection for Lana and his loyalty to his brother. Only time will tell what happens next.

Kayla Marie is a new to me author. I loved how she jumped right into the story immediately. She built the characters up and had me invested in Callum and Lana. Their dynamic was very unique. It was more of a slow burn with their relationship given the situation. I loved how they found solace in eachother. As for Callum's brother. I hated Cole. There's no redemption for how he treated Callum and Lana. He was so despicable.

As for the audiobook narration it was really good. Performed in duet narration by Lark Holloway and Sean Masters. They were incredible! Lark is a new to me narrator. I loved her voice. Lark conveyed Lana's reluctance in trusting the brothers. She showed Lana's fear and pain with so much emotion. It was so heartbreaking to hear what Lana went through. Sean was so good in this one! He voiced both brothers and there was a distinct difference in the tone for each brother. His transitions between the dialogue was really good. He captured the essence of both Callum and Cole. Highly recommend the audiobook!

Thank you to @sparksflystudios for my ALC in exchange for an honest review.

Narration 🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧

I don’t even know where to start with this review… I felt like when the book started I was landing right in the middle of the story rather than at the beginning. There could have been so much more lead up and character development and world building before basically diving all the way in. It felt abrupt and not very well thought out. Majority of this book was also very hard to listen to because there wasn’t any consensual “spice” happening until about 80% in. It also felt like that was the only “plot” of the book. We don’t see much of any of the characters lives outside of one brother forcing himself onto his captive and the other just basically allowing it. There’s no rhyme or reason as to why the older brother is doing this. I think with more character development and plot development this could have been a much better book.

The narration was fantastic though. Lark and Sean did a great job portraying their characters for how they were written.

Broken Little Dove is a dark romance with morally black male characters. Please read the trigger-warnings before reading this.book as they include rape (of the MFC), kidnapping, abuse, torture, suicide ideation, etc.

This book is the story of two brothers, one who has just been released from prison and the young women they abduct. The MMC is Callum, a man who feels he owes his life to his older brother, Cole. Cole is a hardened criminal who decides that bar flies aren't cutting it and forces his brother to help him kidnap the MFC, Lana.

The result is as you can expect, with Callum doing what he can to ease Lana's suffering, but never letting her go. While he doesn't sexually abuse her, he allows his brother to do what he wants, for the most part, all the while realizing he is falling in love with her.

Things happen, it come to.a head one night, and Cole is kicked out, and Lana is seemingly free of the abuse. There is a horrible denouement at the end, a heart-stopping epilogue, and ... I won't be saying anymore. You'll need to find out yourself if this has an HEA.

If you like Laureen Biel's books, you will enjoy this, although this is Laureen Biel "lite".

I enjoyed it, and I recommend it.

You want dark? Kayla gives you PITCH BLACK.

I have never read a book that had me feeling so much. From the Prologue to the last sentence of the Epilogue I was gripped by this story.

This is NOT for everyone..I repeat, NOT FOR EVERYONE. I go in blind..always. I do NOT recommend that you do..this is a first for me. Trigger warnings are listed, READ THEM.

This is so far from your typical love story that I was not sure I could finish it..that’s the honest to goodness truth, but I don’t quit. Kayla wrote something that will stick with me for awhile. I don’t even know how to put into words how I feel about the entire story, but I do know it takes A LOT for someone to write something like this and to THEN send it out to others.

I truly believe Kayla will continue to deliver gripping stories, this story was a hell of a way to start.

Dark dark

Audiobook review: narrated by Lark Holloway and Sean Masters

First and foremost, check your content warnings because this one is a dark captive romance in every sense of the word. I love that we get dual POV with a couple chapters from the antagonist’s POV well. It adds a nice bit of layering to the story. It is a super quick listen and a fast moving storyline but we still get a fairly full bodied plot. The history is there which helps endear us to Callum and why he goes along with his brother’s plan.

Sean Masters lives up to his name in this one! His performance as both Callum and Cole were so well done I forgot it was one person voicing both characters. They each had such different personalities and he nailed them both amazingly well. Lark has such a beautiful voice it was no hardship to listen to her chapters. During some of the rougher scenes we really get that emotion coming through.

Broken little dove

Narrators: Lark Holloway & Sean Masters

This book was not dark, it was obsidian. So much trauma. This is not your typical romance story. So please read the trigger warning before diving into this book.

Overall this was a quick listen (4hrs), the plot could use some work but Kayla Marie is a damn good writer. And boy does she put you through it with this one. It was at times not easy to listen to but that’s because the story felt so real. Kayla Marie is coming out swinging with her debut.

Lark and Sean did amazing. This was my first audiobook narrated by them and I plan to seek out others they have done.

wow

It only took one look to change Lana’s life for the worse. This was an amazing audio book. It has some tough subject and not everyone cup of tea so read the triggers. This is a dark romance and for my speed probably the craziest thing I read. I enjoyed it I found the narrators did an amazing job you felt the pain and the struggles of these characters. My emotions were all over the place I was angry with the main mmc for different reasons and the fmc was fighter from day one. Great book.

I read this book and less than a day. At first, I didn’t think it was going to be for me but the more I read the more I couldn’t stop reading in a twisted messed up way. It was a sweet story.
Favorite quote:
And you little dove, have stolen my whole heart and soul. You hold them prisoner in your hands. At any point, if you choose, you could simply close these small hands and crush everything I am. If you're in search of something dark, this book delivers. Amidst the tragedy and heart-wrenching circumstances, Callum and Lana forge a bond that will challenge them both. I admired how Lana remained strong and open to love despite all she had endured. The story is well-told and makes for a quick read. The narrators did a remarkable job of conveying the emotions, making you deeply feel the characters' pain. If dark romance is your genre and you've checked the trigger warnings, this is a must-listen.

This is not your typical captive romance book, so if you have triggers, PLEASE check them before diving in!

Lana was really put through it all in this book, and I feel so much for her! Callum, he was something else, I had a love/hate feeling towards him! He cared so much for her, but did nothing, but I get why, while not getting why at the same time. 😭
Cole, Cole can go ch0ke on a cucumber or something.

The audiobook for this story was just amazing. Lark Holloway and Sean Masters killed it in this duet style narration, and it was just amazing !

Highly recommend the audio version, but again, please check triggers !

*ALC review* This was my 1st story by Kayla Marie and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. Please heed the TW/CW before diving in, because this is every bit a DARK romance. Callum was....let's say he was easy to give allowances to even when I was angry with him. Lana was not my top favorite FMC, but the character we met was vastly different than the character she ended up to be by the end. Now, let's talk about the narration! Sean Masters again showed his range, voicing a set of brothers that were distinctly different, using his talents to showcase tons of emotions. This was my 1st listen to Lark Holloway, and she put so much passion into her work that I couldn't help but be sucked in, even when the character was pissing me off, lol. This was definitely worth the time, and I'll absolutely check out more works in the future!

The sadness these two charectors have alone and together is brutal. I hoped Cole would be a good guy, but instead, he ended up being even worse than his dad. Callum makes you hate, love, and feel bad for him. He's in a scrappy situation with his brother and feels trapped. The end had me scarred for a minute, but I love the way it turned out!

DARK SUBJECT MATTER
TW ***

📚⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.25
🎧⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🔥🌶️*

Duet narration performed by Lark Holloway & Sean Masters

• Dark Romance • Captive • Stockholm Syndrome-ish • Morally Gray •

While the subject matter in this book is quite dark, I did find the story itself to be very good. The character growth that Callum goes through is quite profound and told beautifully.

Lana and Callum stole my heart! Despite the horrific situation they both end up in, the way Callum cares for Lana is so tender and sweet. He’s warm and soft when all she’s known is cold and hard. They are both so alone and find comfort and strength in each other.

The audiobook was fantastic! Lark did amazing with all the emotional and physical trauma that Lana experiences. It was a heartfelt performance. And Sean’s range is awesome! He really captured Callum & Cole, the wounded and deranged. Highly recommend the audio!

*rated the spice low because the spicy scenes between the FMC & MMC are limited, but I cannot express this enough, there are multiple SA scenes involving a 3rd party

5 stars purely for all the WTF moments in this book. I beg you, read your triggers. This is intense, depraved, and gut wrenching.

Want an FMC that endures above all else and gets her revenge in the end? Broken Little Dove is THAT girl.

*This is not a book that I would recommend you go in blind for. Please take care of your mental health and read the trigger warnings.*
