The nomadic people known as the Rhaavi are on the run . . . And the foe that bears down upon them is far more ruthless and powerful than they can hope to match.

Before long it seems that all is lost; that the Rhaavi are doomed to die. But the intertwining destinies of a young hero and heroine, as well as a chance encounter with a dragon, may yet offer a glimmer of hope.

Born In Fury is a story of failure and redemption, of tribulation and retribution, of grief and healing. It is the first foray into a world colored by fantastical creatures and stunning magics, and scarred by interminable warfare and political unrest.

Born in Fury serves as an exciting prequel into the Tapestry of the Tarnished series.

If you love dragonriders, their bond with their dragons and all that beautiful emotion this is for you.

If you prefer dragons torching their enemies, decimating legions this will fill that gap too. 😈

Being who I am, I of course read them out of order. Still, I was captivated and entranced by The Winds of War and it really wasn’t essential to read this before plunging ahead. It is amazing though. It helps further shape the nomadic Rhavvi as people in their resistance to the empire. More specifically, it explores the leads Yuie and Rizu.

Yuie will face many hardships within his tribe. His discovery of a dragon and becoming a war leader is so well done and believable.

Rizu is forced to become an assassin against her own people. It is her incredible courage and determination us gripping as she tries to escape from her plight.

This is a much more intimate story than Winds of War. It does not take away from any of the drama and awe of the battles though. The back half of the book is pure excitement.

So would I recommend reading the prequel first? Honestly I don’t think it matters. I was pulled into the story both times regardless.

The leviathans are in Winds of War though if you just can’t wait to experience them. Hahaha.

Fantastic entry and definitely an author to watch.

It's surreal seeing a book that I wrote on here. It really is a dream come true.

Thanks so much to everyone that has read it and to those who might check it out later on. Your support means more to me than words can express. What makes the crazy amount of work that goes into writing a novel so worth it is the fact that readers like you will (hopefully!) enjoy it.

And I'm just getting started. The next book is already in the works, and it'll probably be here sooner than you'd expect ... so stay tuned!

I was NOT expecting this!
It is a book that hasn't really been doing the rounds in the indie scene, so I opened it with a little trepidation.

Oh boy, this book deserves more love!
It's a story in 5 acts and that suits this book perfectly, each act gets better and better, thus making Act I the weakest, but certainly not bad at all.
Act V was stupendous and a perfect ending for the book.
The characters are damn well portrayed, crafted and lived. They feel very well thought out and written. Especially Yuei and Lacarii. They carry the heavy load of the story and they do it really well.
I want to give a shout for best secondary actress to Kirana, who in parts, upstages Rizu, the FMC of the story.

I loved the worldbuilding, it's an incredibly well fleshed place, full of diferent peoples and whose history is vast and distinct.

It is a story about resisting and surviving, it has some very dark spots, with a villain that can make your skin itch at time and one you really want to see very dead.

The displacement and genocide themes present in the book feel more relevant than ever in our current world and that makes this book a very good read in this climate.

A supremely impressive debut work. I will most certainly read the follow up.

Born in Fury caught my attention very early as it talked about a nomadic band and their quest for survival. It was a book that has lived rent free in my mind for quite a while thinking that it needed to be read, and so finally I gave in, picking it up based more on how I felt rather than my reading plan. And I am very glad that I did. It is a book that is so much deeper than just a survival story, thick with interesting characters, unique creatures, and a villain who is determined to erase people from the face of his earth. These are weaved together in a compelling narrative that will keep readers glued to the page for far longer than intended. The story is a different take of dragon riders, assassins, and corrupt rulers. I did feel that the way that the dragon was portrayed was a very realistic take on what could happen with dragons. While not a perfect novel, it is a lot of fun and interesting.

Born In Fury by Mosha Winter
As per usual, I will break it down a little bit. The strength of the novel is the theme of loss that is prevalent throughout the story. There are different levels that are portrayed and the author does an excellent job of showcasing how each character has their own struggles with this difficult concept. It can be very relatable for a reader as it is something that we all have to come to terms with in our own ways. I know that it allowed me to reflect in ways that made me feel better, knowing that it isn’t just me that might learn through time. It definitely focuses on three characters, with Yuei receiving the most page time. There is a portion of the story that focuses on a hidden assassin school for one of the main characters, and this is where I wish we could have had more. It felt a little rushed through with an assassin who has their own personal motives. I feel like it would have enriched the world and the character to more fully understand what drives them to be the way that they are. The world is truly rich, shown off the most with interesting animals. This is a unique way of showing the world, and I feel like we will get more of the world as the author explores in future novels. That being said, the world building isn’t as prevalent as in most fantasy novels. There is some scattered throughout, but I would have loved more, being able to see this world that is so interesting. We do get enough but I will be excited to get more. The motives of the villains take a little detective work to figure out but are still eerie and disturbing in a way that will make the reader feel bad for some of the characters.

This is a solid debut novel from an author that shows a lot of promise. It is obvious how much heart the author poured into this novel, allowing the characters to come alive and become very relatable to all readers. I had a lot of fun, never having a dull moment in the time that it took me to read. The battle sequences are intense and heart pounding, often sandwiched by moments that will pull a readers heart strings. I do recommend that more readers discover a book that will stick in their mind, full of love, betrayal, and blood. I know that I will be eagerly looking forward to what the author has in store for us in the future. Mosha Winter has definitely cemented his name as an author to watch! Do yourself a favor and give this wonderful debut a try. I can tell you, it is well worth the time spent reading this great novel!

Thank you for taking the time to read my review. As always, happy reading and Stay Great!!

Please tell me how this is a debut novel and yet it is this good!? I love the way he writes. It instantly immerses you into his captivating world. The story, the characters, the world-building, all were wonderful!

I utterly cherish Rizu 🥺 She's definitely my favorite character in the whole book. She's precious and fierce, I just love her so much!

I don't want to include any spoilers, so let me just say that the second half of the book is 15/10! It had my heart racing, tears falling, and I simply couldn't put it down. It's such a phenomenal end to a great story.

My only complaint with the book is that I want more. More lore, more character interactions, more backstory, etc. I would love if the book was a little longer 🙏🥺

Overall, this was such a great fantasy read -  I highly recommend!

Full disclosure, I'm the author's wife, but trust me, he's always been a naturally gifted writer, and I'm not being dramatic when I say that he truly was born for this! Give Born In Fury a chance, I think you'll be in for a real treat 😊

An absolute joy to read, I thought this book was so good, it actually went a bit too quickly for me. Every time I checked the kindle, I was like "wait no, I can't be THAT much closer to the end!" Which is a huge deal for me, in a world of massive tomes, slow-burn epics, and the like, that a book can be so well done and not feel like it took a long time to finish.

I thought that the highlights were characters we follow throughout. Each of them played a huge role in the narratives, and moving things along and Winter did a great job making each of them become familiar in my mind, to the point where whenever the POV did switch, each person was a welcome change. My favorite of them was Rizu, an Empire-trained assassin, who quickly becomes much more than meets the eye. My other favorite was the dragon, Lacarii, just because of how well built his relationship was with his "blood brother" Yuei.

Overall, this is a great book about fighting against the odds, and doing whatever it takes to survive in a world where the odds are stacked against you. Winter did a great job of taking that concept, which we see pretty frequently, and making it unique and fun to experience. I'm glad I was able to finish book one so closely after the release of the second; I get to jump back into the world even quicker than most!

Very well done sir. 4.5/5, rounding up.

3.5 rounded up!

Mosha Winters lands a solid debut with Born in Fury.

This multi POV tale follows two groups centering on Yuei and Rizu. Two young people who have lost everything they hold dear to the imperials. Love, family and life ripped from their grasp by the powers that would see them all burn.

Rizu is captured and taken, trained to be an assassin against the very people she longs to return to while Yuei struggles to hold on to normalcy with his tribe.

The two cross in a story of grief and healing.

Born in Fury holds the beats of a comforting fantasy, the assassins guild, the outcast, the building of a new family, magic and more. What I really enjoyed here was the friendship elements between man and beast, Yuei and Rizu as they learnt to trust again and also of the Rhaavi peoples.

For my own tastes, some of the scenes felt a little rushed and dialogue didn’t flow as well as it could have. That being said, as an entry point into a wider world, this was a great beginning.

Winters is an author who excites me with this debut. The story beats are there, the skill is there and I could see it being honed with each chapter that went by. I can’t wait to see where this world goes!

A huge thank you to the author for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Received Born in Fury kindly as an arc early read.
This book takes you on a journey through fantasy.

Not only does Mosha Winter draw you into his world through his character building and prose, he makes you form a relationship with these characters enabling an emotional connection which some authors can miss. Not here!

The trials and tribulations, the love and honour, the blackmail and deception all surmount to a debut novel, that will not only give your fantasy feels the tingles but will allow you to bond and care for, or vehemently hate, these characters. Excellent debut novel!!

What will you do when life take everything important from your grasp ? Rizu and Yuei are our young MC, both experienced pains and emotional grief when they both lost tribe and family from Imperial armies's sneaky attack.

Take set at a snowy territory, reader will introduced with massive numbers of name. Although I like to learn that this world isnt empty, but personally I love to focus deeper into our main characters at first installment. I kinda struggles at beginning with all this names, places and lores. I want deeper developments from the worldbuilding but it absorbs slowly into the plot. It is feel as we only scrape the early layer and it is intriguing me with all the potential.

The storytelling is accessible descriptive and appealing. Readers will enjoy the journey, the multi POV, tight woven plots, characters's struggles, also DRAGON! Actually I am not yet feel connected with Rizu or Yuei. I want both of them unique and standout from characters from another fantasy books. The banter and interaction still less flesh out. But I really appreciate  how the author put big portion of the family love and friendship in to part of the emotional support.

This debut fantasy book will take readers into rollercoater journey to get inner peace, trauma healing and learn to trust again in this story. But I am believe the author's talents to guide us through the ways.

Thank you author Mosha Winter, Bookfunnel for providing copy of this ebook. I have voluntarily read and reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Expecting Publication : 31 March 2024

I was a beta reader for this novel and I truly thank Mosha Winter for that opportunity.

This novel is surprisingly superb for a debut work, and demonstrates a budding talent within the author that I am hopeful and eager to see blossom in the future.

Despite this novel undeniably being inspired by great fantasy works of the past, it skillfully detaches itself from the tired tropes that plague the genre today. It is both familiar and unpredictable, and while the novel is still not without flaw, the pros far outweigh the cons.

Any enjoyer of novels, fantasy or otherwise, will likely love this novel. I would love to provide more detail, but I simply do not want to spoil any of the surprises waiting within this great work!

So please, go read the novel once it is out. You will not be disappointed!

Once in a while I watch Mandy’s (the authors wife) twitch streams and when I heard Moe wrote a book that was in the genre I gravitate towards I had to read it. For a first published novel I thought it was amazing. Characters make or break a book for me and I absolutely love Rizu and Yuei and many of the other characters that were apart of this story. Act III is when the story really started going for me. I thought the beginning was good with the world building and learning about characters but there was something about act III to the end that kept me hooked in. There were parts that made me gasp out loud it was that captivating that I did not see some of those things coming. Honestly cannot wait for more about this world to be published because this foundation is a really amazing beginning.

I have read the short story version of the story and loved it. I was waiting for this book ever since and it did not disappoint. It’s an amazing debut novel that touches your heartstrings. It was difficult to continue the story sometimes because of how it made me feel. I was so heavily invested in characters. I definitely recommend this one and will be waiting for the next one for sure.

Mosha Winter's debut novel Born In Fury introduces readers to Rizu and Yuei, two young Rhaavi whose people face annihilation by an overwhelming enemy.

Set in a mysterious world, with well-rounded protagonists and a supporting ensemble, Mosha Winter draws you into his epic fantasy universe with balanced pacing and an eye for detail.

My only criticism is that certain aspects of the world-building lore are at times too vague, with glimpses into the wider world too few and far between. Though I must confess, this only succeeded in me wanting to know more.

Full disclosure, I was a beta reader and eagerly look forward to the next instalment.

Was super honored to be a beta reader for this introductory novel!! It was a very easy going read with great characters and interwoven story. My biggest feedback was just simply wanting more character development and world building lore, whether that gets added to this one or built up more in sequels, excited to see how the story continues!

Where to start!
Quick recap: the Rhaavi people are being hunted down, and are quickly losing tribe mates and loved ones. After a particularly devastating experience, our two main characters embark on a perilous and heart wrenching journey of redemption and revenge. Every main and side detail provided adds to the story and pay attention, because the book will reward you for it later as it provides more pieces of the puzzle.
The book is captivating, and it’s well written. It has magic, war, a small bit of romance, and even a dragon.
One small thing that personally wasn’t for me- there is a fair amount of on page- fully described- animal death. It’s purposeful, and it makes sense with the story but I found those parts hard to read and wanted to leave fair warning about it. But even with this, I couldn’t stop reading this book until I found out how it would all turn out!

Some possible Trigger warnings:
SA
On page animal death
On page violence
Death of loved ones
Assault

Born in Fury is a captivating tale full of vengeance, betrayal and epic conflicts.

An epic fantasy filled with all the rage and trauma implied by the title, these characters go through truly horrific and harrowing circumstances.
The prose flows swift and natural and the pacing is there to match it. Some great world-building is introduced and as the series continues, I’m sure it will expand beautifully.
I enjoyed getting to know the characters we follow intimately. With the great risks the author takes in carving out such deep histories for them, it may have even been more beneficial to stew in that element a while longer and make those hard-hitting explorations more poignant. However, with such an intriguing plot, it was easy to devour this story in no time. I can also say that I was deeply satisfied with the ending.

Overall, a fantastic debut and looking forward to more in the Tapestry of the Tarnished!

I was given the opportunity to beta read Born In Fury earlier this year and was absolutely blown away with what I read, especially considering this is Mosha Winter’s debut novel. From the time I began to the very moment I finished reading, I was utterly captivated.

Rizu and Yuei are two of my favorite characters to date. From the early pages I was already captivated by each of their budding stories and eager to learn more about them, how they were going to inevitably meet, where a dragon would fit into all of this, how the Rhaavi would fair.. there was so much I wanted to know, that even when I finished reading for the night (I like to read fantasy novels before bed) that I would end up laying awake imaging what was going to happen next.
Overall between the multitude of intricate characters, epic and gory fight scenes, to budding romance, and heartbreak.. it was everything I love in a good fantasy story. Oh, and did I mention there is a dragon?!
In all seriousness, Born In Fury ticked every box off for me and left me hungry for more. So I am truly elated knowing that this is only the beginning story for this beautiful world that Mosha has created, and I cannot wait to read more!

* Also I want to say a big thank you to both Mosha and his wonderful wife for being such wonderful friends and allowing me to be apart of the journey in beta reading Born In Fury. Seeing my name in the acknowledgments was so incredibly special that I cannot even express how grateful I am. This book (and eventually all the others) will hold a special place in both my physical and digital libraries, as well as my heart!

A story I couldn’t put down

As many people can imagine, writing a story isn’t an easy thing. But what has been created here is a story of great character development, adventure and of course most importantly… Dragons!.

As the author puts it, their ‘first foray’, is a brilliant first book that will have you wanting to know more and keep reading. The way the deepest feelings are written really puts you in the mind of these characters and empathising with them.

I look forward the further works and more to come out of this universe!

Born In Fury

Born In Fury is such a large world with immersive storylines, which are all woven into different POV's. There is loss, mercy, lack of control and striving *for* control. How can you grasp your fate if it feels like it is entirely out of your hands?

We have strong character leads who are challenged time and time again. The trauma feels overwhelming, but each day begins with new strength and perseverance.

This is a strong fantasy world, which is not an easy choice. I actually see large similarities to George R. R. Martin, not in the sense of Game Of Thrones retelling by any means, but I mean by the sheer talent of writing and the world building that must have come about to create such a masterpiece. It is mind blowing that this is the first work released to the world, and I'm thrilled to see what is to come.

If you love strong characters, intensity of trauma and losses, rebuilding, regrouping and coming together through hardships - did I say dragons? This is the story for you.

I would just like to say lastly, for my own personal tastes, I really love that each chapter would begin with letters, scrawlings, proverbs and such. I feel like it's a beautiful touch and I would look forward to each chapter to see what was written.

Thank you for a fantastic story!

Very Good

It's not easy creating a new world and new histories (and I sincerely hope the histories remain accurate as the series progresses, which I hope it does), so I am happy Winter has pulled it off. Her characters are solid, albeit leaning toward maudlin, her setting descriptions pretty good (I believe it would be beneficial to include a map at the beginning, in much the same way that Tolkien and Martin did with their masterpieces). My gripe is the editing -- I am a grammarian and retired editor, and even small errors (make due instead of make do, farther instead of further, for instance) grate at me, because books are not only meant to entertain, they are meant to educate. Please hire a good editor and I won't complain about this again WHEN I read your upcoming novels. For a first attempt? BRAVO!
