After traveling through Savannah, Bob and his son face unexpected dangers deep in the forest. On the home front, Holly's parents unexpectedly arrive at the farm, though the joy at their reunion is quickly muted as more threats begin to emerge in Book 4 of Shattered Dawn.
The #1 best-selling and most prolific post-apocalyptic author Mike Kraus - working with best-selling author Kenny Soward - brings a new gripping tale of destruction, survival and humanity like no one else can.
A father and son trip to a concert in Florida turns into a hellscape when people start dying - in violent fashion - all around them. Barely escaping from the chaos, they are soon surrounded by death and destruction, with every route home blocked by new challenges.
Back home in Kentucky, the same scenes play out, revealing that the mysterious deaths are not localized, but are part of a larger disaster that has spread across the continental United States in a systematic fashion.
With food and water supplies being suspected as the chief cause of the deaths, the millions who have died in the first few hours are soon joined by hundreds of millions more, some succumbing to the illness while even more die from thirst and starvation.
As threats close in on the survivors of this disaster, one truth becomes only the bravest and most tenacious will survive.

Welcome to my little space out on the web. I'm Kenny Soward, and I'm an author, musician, and once IT guy. I write books in many sub-genres of Science Fiction and Fantasy, including post-apocalyptic, military science fiction, epic fantasy, and horror. I'm influenced by authors such as Stephen King, George R. R. Martin, Anne Rice, J.K. Rowling, Mark Lawrence, Dan Simmons, Robin Hobb, Robert McCammon, Larry Correia, and Mike Kraus.
I love all kinds of movies and shows from Battle Star Galactica (reboot) to the Walking Dead. There's nothing I won't try.
I grew up in Kentucky in a small suburb just south of Cincinnati, Ohio, listening to hard rock and playing outdoors. In those quiet 1970's streets, I jumped bikes, played Nerf football, and came away with many scars.
My grandfather and many of my uncles and cousins served in the United States Military, and my father was a Kentucky State Trooper. Their efforts taught me the meaning of sacrifice and gratitude. I've always had an avid curiosity about the world around me, and I hope my enthusiasm for life carries over into my stories, even the dark ones.
Another great part to this super enjoyable series! Fast paced action, great levels of tension & energy, good ideas, everything I want in this type of story. I really like the characters & feel, to some extent, that you live the story in this shattered world! A really great read!
The Dream Team of Mike Kraus and Kenny Soward have reached Book 4 of their great Shattered Dawn, a post-Apocalyptic survival thriller series, with Clawing Back.
The Summers family welcome the arrival of Mom Holly's parents, Carol and Clint, at their farm, to help with repairs and to defend it against marauders.
Elsewhere, Bob Summers and his son Jimmy try unsuccessfully to get onto the interstate, and barely make it to comparative safety. Which of the Summers will make it through, to begin again in a brave new dystopian world? Read Clawing Back, to see what will happen next!
This good book continues what has been, so far, a good series; as always, thanks for the "look back" at the previous storyline. I like Bob as a good problem-solver, but he and Jimmy have no end of trials trying to get him. I like that his "good guy" aura helps them with the various groups that they meet. I was starting to like Holly a lot better, but oh dear!!!-why did you tell Clay, a guy you have not seen in years, that you were good on the farm and had everything that you needed? The outcome of such a mistake is obvious. I look forward to book 5 to see what happens (and possibly tell Holly "I told you so."
The trials of the Summers family continue in Clawing back. Bob and Jimmy are still fighting to get home, Clint, Holly, Eve and the girls still fight to protect the farm. There's surprise encounters I won't ruin for you. I'll just say that Clawing Back is every bit as exceptional as the rest of the series. Soward and Kraus make a great team!
More danger happening, how will this all end. Everyone trying to get back to loved ones or at least their homes. How will it be possible to stay safe. Done miss out on this gripping story by fantastic authors.
In this book of the series you get to see Another part of our country Close up. To be able to explore and hike this portion of our country would be a Tremendous pleasure if You could accomplish this In a peaceful manner.
This book did not have as much action as the others in the series. I liked the way Bob and Jimmy continued to persevere as they tried to get home. Despite all their trials they are still willing to help others. Very good, clean story.
