A plague threatens his kingdom but one kiss could rule his heart...
Kassandra grew up with myths of Titans and Sirens thanks to her father, but never did she imagine one of these mythological creatures would pop out of an ancient book she discovered in the library. Darius is unlike any man she’s known. He’s commanding but loyal to his family and he shows her a secret power she never knew she possessed. When he claims to need her help, Kassandra vows to use her special talents to help.
Darius is a Titan of the sea, trapped inside a book for a decade when he left his home on a mission to save his world. He’s on a deadly time crunch and fears the plague, which had been destroying his undersea kingdom has spread in his absence, and is forced to bring along Kassandra, knowing it could very well put her life in jeopardy.
Forced to find magic relics that could end the plague, Darius comes face-to-face with the decision of a lifetime. Let Kassandra drown or give her the kiss of life which will turn her into a Siren and bound her to him for eternity.
But one kiss can’t change the woman. Darius must learn to trust in Kassandra’s abilities if he’s going to find a cure for his undersea kingdom, all the while trying to avoid being captured and leading them both into a fate worse than death.

I loved Darius I really did, "right now, there wasn't a thing he liked. Okay, maybe a little thing, he mused, looking forward to confronting the feisty woman upstairs." He also doesn't like other men touching his woman, "he moved toward her like a wild beast. A twinge of fear spiraled through her entire body. There was something fierce and untamed about him as he advanced. She tried again to grab the sheet before her fingers could make contact with it, he yanked it out of her grasp. "You won't be needing that," he growled." And for the whole not kissing thing he gives one bada** excuse, "he understood immediately. "Ahh, darling, if I kiss you, I'll eff you like I want, rough and wild, and I can't do that to you. So I'm giving you a bit of heaven instead." Also he has to explain to his woman what is happening to her, "things were never easy when it came to Kassandra. "Really it is, Kassandra. I claimed all of you. You're my mate. When a Titan mates with his soulmate, he gives her his life-seed, and that's how we reproduce." I can't wait for the next book!
Well, this was a pretty good read. The last book I had read that had a sexual brute as the hero, he bugged me and I couldn't figure out how the heroine fell for him. Not so this time. Darius was extremely controlling but the way he did it didn't bother me.
Kassandra's life has been turned upside down in less than a day. Getting home drunk from celebrating her 25th birthday with her friends, she unknowingly releases Darius from an ancient book he was sealed within. Darius is a titan prince who has spent the last ten years stuck in that book and to say he is angry when he gets out would be an extreme understatement. Turns out that now he is bound not only to the book, but also to Kassandra. And if either is too far from the other they suffer a debilitating pain the farther they are. Darius is on a mission to save his people from a plague that is killing them and he drags Kassandra along with him. For a girl who says she hates to be told what to do, she goes along without much fighting. Darius's task leads them to the underwater kingdom where things take a bad turn. Darius is poisoned and Kassandra finds out she shouldn't even be there. Still she is caught during her escape and her life is now in Darius's hands. He can save her or let her die. Of course he chooses to save her and that means changing her into a siren. Now from here, everything takes place underwater. And sometimes it almost seems the author forgot that. Everything was written as would be normal for above water (like having a salad that doesn't float away) except that they swam everywhere instead of walked. And now they both have tails, so it was a little weird when their having sex was written in a way that would be for a human anatomy. Maybe I just over think things...okay, no maybe about that...but I had to purposely "forget" they had tails sometimes just because it made no sense (not that I want to read about fish sex). Granted, I don't know how people with fish tails would do it in the first place so for all I know it could be right. So anyway. Kassandra's not happy that Darius had changed her at first and when she finds out she's also pregnant she wants to get rid of them. Darius pretty much refuses to tell her how he really feels about anything which just complicates everything. Darius continues on his quest while she stays at his house trying to figure out what to do. In the end, his people are saved from the plague (though not completely by Darius's own actions) and Kassandra accepts her new life and Darius as her soul mate. I liked the twistish ending that brought about the end of the plague because I didn't see it coming. Granted that was because it completely came out of left field, but still. I really liked how their children had been gifted with the protection of a sea dragon for each, and also had two of the gods bestow them with gifts when they were born. Which reminds me of another weird thing
I want to point out that my favorite character was Rylan. Zeus's semi-god nephew who was pretty much nothing but trouble. Not on purpose though. He was just a kid who tried to do things and they usually didn't go right. But he was freakin' great. I'd have to say the scenes with him were pretty much the best.
There were a few problems I had with this story though. Somethings were almost completely forgotten or just didn't make sense. The didn't make sense things were as mentioned above with the whole underwater living not being what seemed logical. The other things were like the book. In the beginning the book was super important and even wanted by another ocean king. But by the end, we don't even have a clue where it is and the other dude doesn't want it anymore (I forget his name). Then, how did that same king even get Poseidon's trident that Darius had taken that he used at the end? And what the heck did Sesta do that she had to do all that she did to try and fix things? And what happened with Gaia's tears?
There were plot holes throughout this book, but that didn't take much away from it for me if I just choose to ignore them. So all in all I quite enjoyed this book.
It wrapped up everything nicely so even though it's part of a series, it's not like you have to read on to get a conclusion. And the next book will no doubt be about his sister and what she had done at the end of this one. Will I read it? Maybe.
Bliss (Titan Series #1) by Renee Field is a 2014 independent publication. I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. ( Via the author and Storyfinds and Netgalley) Kassandra frees Darius from the book he has been trapped inside of for the past decade. It's a mystery to Darius how this human managed that, but now that he is free, he must return to his kingdom to find a way to save his people from a terrible plague. His mother and twin brother is inflicted with the disease and he must find the cure soon. But, of course there are many obstacles blocking him from getting home and saving his kingdom. Kassandra, the sassy human that has him all tied up in knots, is a huge help to him with her ability to speak the old Greek language among other rather unusual gifts for a human to have. As attracted as they are to one another, Darius knows nothing could ever come of it because it is against the law in his world to become involved with humans. Kassandra will find herself in a life or death sitution -literally, when it finally dawns on her what Darius really is... a Titan. Kassandra was told stories about these mythical creatures by her father and she is quite knowledgeable about all the legends, knowledgeable to figure out Darius in not a human and that somehow she has mangaged to get herself involved in his personal dramas, and she has also managed to begin caring about him. This is what eventually leads her to that life and death situation. When Darius almost dies, it's Kassandra that gets him the help he needs, but she will pay a very heavy price for saving his life. This book as a little of everything fantastical. Mermen, mythology, sirens, and tons of undersea dramas. It seems that women suffer the same from men no matter where they are from and Kassandra will be shocked to learn she will be bonded to Darius for centuries. She will become his life mate and will have to make the choice of being a mother of children or not when he fails to prevent her from becoming pregnant. It seems Kassandra didn't have much of a say in any of these events. These changes are more than Kassandra can manage to cope with on top of being in danger of aquiring a deadly disease and dealing with the controlling and demanding, and very possessive, Darius. ( He's really a sweetie, he just isn't too good with women when it comes to certain things) I have not read many novels with this sort of paranormal theme. Mostly, I read the shifter/vampire type paranormal romance, so I have no idea what the norm is when it comes to Sirens and Mermen and under water kingdoms. I do know that I found myself engrossed in all the drama, the humor, and I loved the light hearted ending to the story. The author has a great imagination and adds so many little details that I could actually visualize everything in the lush underwater kingdom. All of the secondary characters were well developed and I hope to see them in future installments. This was a really fun read and I so enjoyed the escape from reality for awhile. I will want to read the next one in the series which will be Seth and Jamie's story. Over this one gets an A (4 stars )
This paranormal fantasy is a riveting and magical read that keeps readers on their toes. Kassandra’s life is turned upside down when she finds an ancient book and a mythological Titan pops up out of it and claims he needs her help. On a deadly time crunch Darius is forced to bring Kassandra along on his quest to save his undersea kingdom from a deadly plague. He must learn to trust in her abilities if he hopes to find the cure all while avoiding being captured and leading them both into a fate worse than death.
This steady to fast paced and smooth flowing plot keeps the readers on the edge of their seats with lots of suspense, action, drama and romance. The author brings this wonderful undersea world to life with vivid imagery and details that make the reader feel as if they part of the story. Spine tingling anticipation builds throughout the story as the adventure progresses with some surprises that the reader doesn’t see coming keeping the reader guessing as to what will happen next. The strong compelling characters are easily related to and grab the reader’s attention from the very beginning.
The chemistry between Darius and Kassandra is hot enough to boil the seas and the sex scenes are hot and steamy scorching the reader with their intensity, but it’s the relationship that sets off fireworks as the two clashes at every turn. Darius is a take charge commanding get his way type of man and Kassandra doesn’t really take that very well especially when she knows that Darius is hiding something from her.
The author has created a magical world of mythology and fantasy with her own unique spin that makes for a refreshing change and there are many intriguing and fascinating characters as well. There were a couple of instances when the story seemed to slow down a little, but they were quickly forgotten in the excitement of the next scene. I haven’t read the first one in this series, but I will definitely have to remedy that and I will be looking forward to reading more about these captivating characters.
Bliss is a Paranormal Fantasy book. it is the second in the series. Kassandra has freed Darius from the book he has been imprisoned in for the past decade. Now that he is free, he must return to his kingdom and help his people who have afflicted by a terrible plaque. There are numerous obstacles in his way on his way to his kingdom.
In his quest. Kassandra joins him. She is human and can speak reek and has unusual gifts that a human should not possess. When Kassandra finds herself in a life and death situation, she finally realizes that Darius is a Titan. During their time together, Kassandra begins to develop feelings for him. When Darius almost dies, Kassandra gets him the help he needs but she will have to pay a heavy price for helping him. They are now fated for one another for centuries, and will become life mates. has to make a heart wrenching decision that affects them both.
The author has created a magical world of mythology and fantasy with her own unique spin. I loved the secondary characters and hope they get their own story. The vivid descriptions lend to your imagination and how you can picture the scenes, and characters. I don’t normally go for Paranormal Fantasy, but this one won me over. I can’t wait to see what Renee Field’s comes up with next.
Throw in Mythical creatures, Gods, Legends, smoking hot scenes and a complex plot - and you get Bliss, the first book in the Titan Series. The story is much more complex than the cover reveals, with many characters (besides Kassandra and Darius) playing important roles. And while I enjoyed the book, I thought that the solution for the plague (which haunted Darius' kingdom) a bit anti climatic, considering how the story was built up I expected something more explosive... but everything was restored within seconds, not really satisfying.
The ending (nine months later) cracked me up, I won't spoiler it but it was not what I expected... more novels (especially shifter related novels) should end this way ;)
Wow, what can I say? It has been such a long time since I have read a book dealing with goddess/gods and myths. This kind of had a Gene Showalter/ P.C. Cast vibe that I really enjoyed. It was actually really fun but the he-man act from the hero was really annoying at times. Other than that it was a pretty good read.
I really enjoyed the story of merpeople and the environment they lived in. This was the first book for me and I'm not sorry I started with it. I didn't like the dominant take control of the other person but the caring compassionate side won me over. This is a story I wouldn't mind going back for.
