Kyle Pierce used to know what she wanted. At the top of her list was the perfect boyfriend. She found him in Lance Makin her senior year in high school. She was the head cheerleader and he was the new star quarterback. Even going to separate colleges was no problem for them.
It was perfect until the weekend it all changed for Kyle. She has new priorities that include her own education, making new friends and most importantly NO DATING!
That is until Nicholas Richards moves into her world. He’s not taking no for an answer. He’s her friend and he wants her to date him.
Kyle isn’t going to date Nick. She doesn’t mind hanging out or running errands. She tells him and everyone else they are friends.
Sidonia Rose lives in suburban Maryland with her family. Sidonia has a long love affair with books. She started early by memorizing her Dr. Seuss books read to her, so she could read them to her parents instead. She is often found with a book in her hands or a couple of books so she can lend to a friend. You can often spot her by her toe shoes.
After a long career homeschooling she continued onward to pursue her love of books by writing her own books. Love Shots is her first novel released in 2014.
I throughly enjoyed the process of beta reading this wonderful story.
Without saying too much Love Shots is a great debut book by Sidonia Rose. The premise of the story is roughly about someone finding their voice and learning how to move forward. With doing so she must overcome certain obstacles that have stunted her growth into womanhood and interpresonal relationships in her young adult life; and those obstacles that she must overcome are easier said than done.
I cannot wait for the release of this book and to see how the writing career of Sidonia Rose grows and flourishes.
A good read by a debut author. I especially loved the relationship between the siblings. Looking forward to the next book as there are still so many unanswered questions.
When we least expect it, life has a way of bringing the people we need most into it.
Kyle Pierce has closed her heart and locked it down tight. After a horrible ending to her first ever relationship, she went down the deep end. Vowing to never ever put herself back into that dark place, nor her family. She is focused on school and dating will come at a later date, hopefully.
When it's her time to find a new tenet for the house her and her siblings live in, Kyle accepts Nick as their new roommate. He's hot, everything checks out and she just needs to fill the spot.
With Nick now living in their home, with Kyle and the rest of the guys, it's hard for her not to notice him, or the way he looks at her. Nick is after Kyle, but she isn't ready for that. She doesn't want a boyfriend and the possibility to hurt him, like she did her previous one. Those mistakes can't be made again. With agreeing to be "exclusive" friends and not dating others. Nick will wait for ever how long it takes to finally get Kyle to agree to date him.
"I told you before I don't date. So no matter how you ask me or how often you ask me the answer is and always will be no."- Kyle
With kisses and holding each other, feelings start to grow for Kyle, but again she is scared. And let's not forget about her over protective brothers who will not let her make mistakes or doesn't want Nick anywhere near their sister.
Nick is everything a girl could dream of. He is attentive, sweet, nice and easy on the eye's. You can always find him behind the lends of a camera.
"We can be friends only because you don't want something more. Just so you know I'm not going to give up."- Nick
With her secret out, Nick still isn't shying away from Kyle, if anything it's brought them closer. The opposite her brothers wanted.
Kyle will learn some information that will have her thinking about the time she was with her first boyfriend, the boy she hurt. Did she cause all those problems for herself for nothing?
"I will wait for you sweetheart. Just give me something to wait for."- Nick
While everything is amazing with Kyle and Nick, something will call Nick away. With no contact from Nick, Kyle will wonder if he's changed his mind.
With an unexpected person needing to talk to Kyle, will everything change for her? Will letting someone finally enter into the wall around her heart be the best thing for Kyle, or will everything she's thought about herself be the truth?
Love Shots is a story about overcoming a fear and letting love in. Kyle's character is sweet and kinda innocent. She's a bookworm and I LOVE THAT! She's made a mistake and has to live with it and has closed her heart off. Nick is an amazing lead male character. He is absolutely sweet and caring. I love to see a book where it's not based on sex and this is one of those books. Love Shots is very well written and the characters are well developed. Every other character brings so much into the story. I love the sibling love and pranks that play out. I did feel that Kyle couldn't make up her mind with want she wants, but I understand why she couldn't. We are left with a cliffhanger and it had me screaming "NOOOO! I need to know who that was!" LOL! I give this book 4 stars!!!
Love Shots is one of those stories where you start reading it and you can't put it down. First off I have to say that I love the cover. I love taking photos and reading this book made me want winter to be done so I can go out and take pictures.
Kyle has everything straight in her head. She is looking for the perfect boyfriend which she has in Lance Makin. She is the head cheerleader and he is the star Quarter Back for the football team. What else could a girl ask for right? Well it is there senior year and they are both going to different colleges. How could a long distance relationship work out? Well the two of them are so positive things will work out that they decide they will do it.
Well as we all know long distance relationships can be hard and take their toll on everyone involved but these two seem to be navigating just fine until Nicholas Richards comes into the picture. He is friends with Kyle but wants more. He is so determined to have her he will do whatever it takes to get her. But is his intentions pure or is there something underhanded going on with him?
This story had me screaming at my kindle ready to chick it because Kyle makes some crazy choices and decisions but then she redeems herself because love is not a clear cut feeling or emotion and things said and done can hurt or heal. I really love how everything unfolded and the secondary characters had me on the floor laughing because they are just so snarky and funny I could not read fast enough. So go out tomorrow and get it!
I was given the chance to read Love Shots in exchange for an honest review, I was also asked not to give away any spoilers, so here goes;
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, from the first page it sucked me in, and if I didn't have work I would have not put it down..
where to start with Kyle, I thought she was a strong young women who made a couple of bad decisions and they are haunting her. she' letting them dictate her future decisions.
My first thoughts of Nick were that he is a little odd, then further into the book that he has an ulterior motive and that he's not saying the whole truth, but I did like him and I think he does care for Kyle.
I love George and Kyle's brother/ sister relationship, they were so funny and that's how I see sibling rivalry with all the jokes and pranks but also that he's there for her no matter what.
I really can't wait to read what happens next.. I hope I don't have to wait long!!
Sidonia Rose's writing was perfect, the way she made me want to read more and that I could read it and actually understand it as if I was there in the book makes it a while lot better :-D
Well I was lucky to be given the chance to read early for review. This is a first time author and know how hard she has worked to bring her dream to life. So with no spoilers I can say once I started reading I was drawn to the main character Kyle. Feeling like she is always paying for a mistake that was seen by family and friends as a act of intention. Learning she is strong is a surprise to her and everyone around. And Nick, well he is determined. Yes there is a cliffhanger, see there are many questions left with unanswers that Sidonia Rose will answer with her smooth, easy reading style. This book made me laugh, get teary, wonder, and at times make me want to slap a brother upside the head.
Kyle was a gir that thought in High School she had it all....good family, awesome brothers, great friends and the high school quarterback as a boyfriend, Lance. Things were fantastic !! College wasn't going to be a problem either. She would live in ahouse with her brothers near campus and Lance would go to the college next tp hers, so seeing him wasn't a problem..so she thought. They would see each other on weekends but once they didn't see each other one weekend, one weekend turned into two and so on without seeing each other things seemed to be changing.
One weekend Kyle decides to attend a party without Lance and that is when her whole life changes !! Now Kyle lives by one rule...NO DATING !! Until Nick enters her life....Nick and Kyle had what seemed a friendly brother/sister relationship....shopping together, visiting families together, taking photographs together, eating together or just hanging out together but Nick wanted more.....
Nick finally wears Kyle down and she decides to try her hand at dating again but then a family emergency makes Nick leave the country to be with his family and she doesn't hear from him again.... She does everthing to distract herself from missing Nick...she throws herself into school work and cleaning. While trying to figure out why Nick doesn't call or contact her after he suddely leaves, guess who pops back into Kyle's life ?? Can you say CLIFFHANGER !!
Kyle has two amazing brothers that have helped her get her life back together.... George / Funny and Loving - Dean / Serious Cop and All Hands into her Life....can they help her get through her loss of Nick being gone or does Dean know something he isn't saying ??
Thus is Sidonia Ros's first book and I think she has hit it out of the park !! You will love her style of writing.....Never a dull moment !! I Loved it !!
Love Shots is the combination of sweetness and tragedy..
So much sadness and so much waste...
Kyle is such a strong young woman, who has survived so much...The tragedy of that one night, the loss of her friends and boyfriend, the loss of trust and respect from her family..But she still tries to see the good in them..She still tries to understand them and give excuses for them..
Personally,I'm not wired like that..I can see where her family comes from and why they don't believe her..But I can't understand their behaviour..Yes it is somewhat justified, generally speaking..But this is not general..It's their daughter, their sister..They should have believed in her a lot more..After all, it was just one night..And because of that, they made her feel like she shouldn't be happy..Like she deserved to be along for the rest of her life..Why?Because of one night..That is unacceptable..
My heart broke for Kyle..I was in tears, during her confession, her outburst..Everyone should feel worthy,no matter their mistakes..
Seriously,I wanted to get into the book and kick some major ass...
So,you may have noticed how intense my words are..I love Kyle and I love her story. Not how she was treated of course..But I loved the book..Sidonia made a somewhat ordinary story into a special and unique story involving special characters into special situations...
It has Romance and it has Mystery..Tragedy and Smiles..Sadness but Hope,too..Darkness and Light..Love, Betrayal and Secrets..
This is one excellent debut book! Kyle the young girl who has 3 over protective brothers. While sharing a house with 1 of her brothers and 2 other guys, they are looking for 1 more roommate. Nick checks out and moves in. Dean Kyle's brother isn't happy about this at all, his over protective sense kicks in and he HATES the fact that there is a guy looking at his "Kid" sister in the ways Nick does. Kyle has a dark past and has a NO dating rule, but Nick is looking to change that. Kyle has to figure out if she is going to be the Meek little girl that lets her brothers run her life or if she is ready to stand up to them and make her own choice and risk a heart break. This book ends leaving you saying crap on a cracker what just happened!! WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHY, and WHEN will book 2 be released????? GREAT JOB SIDONIA ROSE now please get writing I at least need chapter 1 of book 2.. LOL
Awesome book I knew I should have waited till the second books comes out!!!!! Now I have to wait to see what happens SMH this is a must read high school love, family and great friends!!!!
Love Shots started off hot and heavy. I was really liking the progression of the story and enjoying Kyle and Nick's characters. As Kyle's past was revealed, more things about her current dating status made sense. I got a bit of a pushy vibe from Nick though, and although I know he was interested in Kyle and meant well, it would bother me if I were her. Also, she kept being adamant about them being "just friends" and yet in many ways was sending mixed signals his way. I just wanted her to come out with it and be honest instead of wishy-washy. Her behavior was somewhat off-putting to me. And while part of me admired Nick's determination, the other part of me was annoyed that he couldn't take "no" for an answer, no matter how much he liked her or what chemistry he felt. So much of the story focused on the push and pull of these feelings and it just started to seem redundant. Later in the story, when Nick invited Kyle to go see the Killers concert, I was very bothered by the fact that she was secretly upset that he kept emphasizing that it wasn't a date. That was what she had said she wanted all along, and yet now she felt upset that he was stressing that. She was often confusing in this way and it bothered me about her character, so much so that it weakened my feelings of support for her. I just wanted to shake some sense into her by this point. When they did finally decide to make their relationship official, I was relieved. Now all of the back-and-forth games could stop. Then during that trip to Costco they ran into Lance and that had me feeling both shocked and bothered. It was awful what he had done if it were true, but it was in the past and so much had happened, that I felt Kyle should have been able to just let it go. I understood her curiousity, but at the same time it was water under a drama-filled bridge. When Nick got a call from London and had to leave immediately, I was very curious about what had happened and when he would finally get in touch with Kyle again. Also, the pictures of Kyle from freshman year had me a bit weirded out and questioning things. There was obviously more to that part of the story that needed to be told. There was a lot going on inside Kyle's head toward the end of the story and truthfully, she seemed a bit unstable. Her questions about Nick and Lance, as well as her struggles with Dean added so many little tidbits and mysteries toward the end of the book and helped to keep my interest until the end. The ending had me very eager to know what would happen next and who needed to talk to her. I'm glad that Love Shots left me with enough curiousity to give another book by Sidonia Rose a chance. My frustrations with Kyle and Nick almost put me off from any further reading, but I'll give another book a try.
I want to first say that I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the covers of this book and that alone is the reason I decided to read it. Being able to personally connect to the character Kyle Pierce is what made me fall in love with her story. In my opinion, the only downfall to these books is how difficult they could be to understand sometimes. What I mean by that is I would sometimes have to reread certain passages to understand what was happening or being said. Other than that I would say that this book is great and I absolutely love it.
I enjoyed reading this book. It wasn't too fast paced and the characters are believable. It was a tad bit drawn out in parts. but other than the cliff hanging ending (wasn't expecting to be at the end already), I laughed, cried, boo-ed and cheered for Kyle & Nick. Looking forward to the next book.
Ends in a big cliffhanger and I don't think the next book is out yet!! Ughhh I hate when that happens. A great book but I am confused and need to know what happens. Loved this book though
****4- 'this is not a date' -Stars**** ~this review may contain minor spoilers~
“Stunning, it's an adjective. It usually means extremely impressive or attractive or beautiful even. I was referring to the view but I can assure you that turning to see you standing at the door is no less impressive.”
Ummm, holy friggin frustration-this chick (Kyle) drove. me. Nuts! But wow, props to the author for a fantastic debut-she definitely has the ability to tie me in knots, I look forward to what else she brings our way in the future. Now...on with my review =)
He winks at me and takes off in the opposite direction. He turns once and takes a picture of me watching him walk away. I can't help but think that Nicholas Richards just might be trouble for me.
Kyle had the perfect boyfriend once, in high school-she was a cheerleader, he was the star football player, and though they were both headed off to separate colleges , they promised to make it work. And it did for awhile...then it didn't anymore-that's all I'm saying on that. Now, Kyle has dedicated herself to her studies and her family. She has no desire to date anyone at this point, in fact-she flat out refuses to date anyone. At All. Period. And she's perfectly okay with that plan... til Nicholas Richards walks into her life.
They can't be real feelings yet. If they are then I'm in real trouble. I need to keep my distance and just be friends with him. That is what I need to do, and that should be easy. At least I think we are friends.
Nick makes it clear he's interested in dating Kyle, Kyle makes it clear she does not date and they will never be more than friends, but Nick is determined and Kyle soon realizes he will not be giving up.
“We can be friends only because you don't want something more. Just so you know I'm not going to give up.”
I have to admit, this book frustrated the ever lovin' shit outta me. Kyle has got to be one of the most frustrating people I have ever read... except for maybe her brother, Dean. I just wanted to shake her, hard, Oh! And I kinda wanted to smack her brothers around a bit, over-protective much?! I did love the dynamic between Kyle & her brothers, when they weren't being over-bearing asshats, you could tell they were really close and the pranks cracked me up. Now Nick... well, he was pretty damn perfect. Sweet, sexy, and so damn patient, although I'm pretty sure he's hiding something-something huge, and the ending makes me nervous. Which reminds me-I should warn you, this ends with a cliffhanger, which completely floored me because I was unaware that this was going to be part of a series-but there you have it. In the end, it was a pretty great debut for Ms. Sidonia Rose. I cannot wait to see what she brings us next and am dying to see where this story goes from here-So. Many. Questions!
I know it's what I said I want, but deep down I also know I lied to him. I feel bad about it for a minute before I push those thoughts away. It' better he's mad at me now and not later when I really would mess things up. At least this way we can still be friends. At least I hope we can still be friends.

Kyle went through some rough experiences her freshman year in college that prevented her from attempting to date anyone until she is finished with her education. She also has three brothers who are very close to her and very over-protective. This year they have a new housemate named Nick, who is the first person to make Kyle reconsider and really think about her no dating policy. Nick is attracted to Kyle and makes it clear that he will be her friend if she insists, but would really like to be more. Kyle is still has a lot of her own stuff to work through, but despite her best efforts, she is really having a hard time saying no to Nick.
This book held my interest and attention throughout. I found Kyle a little hard to connect with because it was difficult for me to understand her perception of things. She is pretty naive, and it was hard for me to figure out why she was still unable to move forward from the issues that she struggled with several years ago. It seemed like she had a pretty strong support system in her family and had gone through some therapy, yet she still didn't seem to have a strong sense of herself or insight into the behaviors of herself or others. That said, I still really wanted things to get better for her and for her to be able to find some happiness and be able to enjoy a relationship that she desired.
Nick seems like a pretty swell guy. Attractive, attentive, patient, and kind. He made his intentions and desires clear, while respecting that Kyle was going to need more time and patience than someone else might. The chemistry between the two of them was pretty great when they did connect, and I was really hoping that both of them would be able to make things work.
I was not prepared for this book to take a totally mysterious turn and leave me hanging, even though I definitely felt like there was a lot I didn't fully understand about nearly every character. Some of the dialogue was a little bit stiff and a little choppy at times, but overall I enjoyed the story. I will be looking forward to reading the next book in the series and finding out what happens next. 3.5 stars
*an ARC was provided in exchange for an honest review
3.5 Stars This story started off a little slow for me and at times the dialogue was a little stiff, making it almost seem forced. The further I read the more interesting and natural the story became. I loved the brothers and roommates in their own ways but I had a particular fondness for George and the prank wars between him and Kyle. Dean seemed like he was just trying to look out for Kyle but in doing so he didn't leave a lot of room for her to make her own decisions and I think it was actually doing more harm than good. I still have questions about the night that Kyle regrets the most in her life it just seemed liked we didn't get a lot of details of the aftermath or in fact the aftermath wasn't as serious as it seemed to be to affect Kyle in such a strong way. I was also a little confused about her family's reaction to Nick. One minute it seemed like they wanted her to stay away from him and the next it was like they just wanted her to move on from her previous relationship and get a boyfriends already. I loved Kyle but frankly he's still sort of a mystery to me. He's totally swoonworthy, I mean really a British accent, yes please. He is also patient and kind but persistent in his efforts to make Kyle understand how much he cares about her. Now can we talk about the last chapter and the ending? I have so many questions about Nick's sudden 360, what happened, what's going on? Then the way the book ended, say what? I was not expecting that at all and now I'm biting my nails to find out what happens next. Over all I think this was a great debut and I could see the growth of the author from the beginning to the end of the book. I look forward to what she brings us in the next installment.

Confident, Strong, Funny, loved and yet lonely Kyle has her plan for her future and is ticking to it no matter what. What do those plans include? Graduating college, working family and studying. Notice I didn't include dating, that is her number one rule...NO DATING period. Well that is until Nicholas Richards walks into her life wanting to rent one of the rooms in her house. Yeah she could feel it the moment she opened the door he would break her resolve eventually. Nicholas Richards, photographer, hot and has a bit of a British accent, all of this spelled disaster for Kyle. Okay so those are the basics, now let's get to what I LOVED about this book! It's funny, tenderly romantic, frantically hot and endearing to my heart. What's not to love? Kyle has a past that she is desperately trying to leave in the past, her family loving as they are make that really hard to do. I mean with 3 older brother and 2 of their friends as surrogate brother's dating had always been difficult and her FRIENDSHIP(only) with Nick was proving bothersome to her brother's. Nick was instantly attracted to Kyle and told her that no matter how much she protested they would happen...SWOON... I mean how could you NOT fall for him. I do love how strong and focused she is though and I commend her for being so. But I do feel like she is running from what could be the next big step in her life. This book is so good that it doesn't feel like you reading rather like your are part of the group watching it all unfold in front of you, so don't get mad and yell at your reader, like I did. Kyle won't hear you. ;) I loved it and I can't wait to read more I want to know what is in Kyle and Nick's future... Sidonia, how much loner for Proof?????
As much as I loved this book, and I did love it! It literally ripped my heart apart! Kyle (a girl after my own heart) shares a house with her older brother, and rents out the other rooms to students, that go to her college. That’s how she meets Nick. He wants to rent a room. She instantly finds herself attracted to Nick, and Nick feels the same way. But Kyle, has a rule that she will not date any guys, while she is in college. She has built a wall up, because of something that has happened to her in the past, which almost cost her to get kicked out of college. Eventually, Nick starts knocking Kyle’s wall down. They start hanging out a lot together, going shopping, taking pictures (Nick is a photographer), going on overnight trips. Since her wall is finally falling down, she is letting Nick into her heart. After running into someone, Nick gets a phone call. Suddenly, is flying to London to help his father? Leaving Kyle to figure out what the heck is going on, because he doesn’t answer her texts, or phone calls. Yes, there is a MAJOR CLIFFHANGER! I got so emotionally attached to this, because I can relate to Kyle in a lot of ways. And I like Nick, but there is something mysterious about him. I am really hoping that there will be another book, because I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED!!!!!!
I was gifted a copy of Love Shots recently. I slowly got dragged into the story. By the end I couldn't wait for the good feeling Happily Ever After. What I got was a cliffhanger. I didn't really worry about it since this book was published in November 2014. Guess what--no second book. I searched for info and only found out that Proof was supposed to be published in 2015. So now I wait and hope that she writes the second book. I loved the slow building romance between Kyle (Yes she is a girl) and Nick. How could you not like a guy that opens doors, refused to let you pay, and always seems to be patient. Kyle has a past that keeps haunting her, making it difficult to move on. Therefore the relationship builds slowly. Parts of the book left me wondering what is going on. Towards the end I was left hanging to often. I hate being left hanging. I need answers---What was Dean about to tell Kyle? What did Nick's grandmother write in the note? What is in all of the envelopes on Nick's desk? What isn't Nick saying?? Most of all, who walks up behind Kyle and says "We need to talk"????? I need Proof yesterday. The lack of warning of the cliffhanger and lack of conclusion made me want to give it a rating of one, but the story and writing definitely deserves a higher rating.
I stumbled across Sidonia Rose at an author's event in my area. After a fantastic discussion, I walked away empty handed, made it two tables down and almost kicked myself for not buying this. I went back and got both of her books, made it home and cracked open this book.
I was NOT disappointed at all. Okay, I lied, I was disappointed when I ran out of pages and HAD to have more story. I'm still mostly patiently waiting for the next book to come out. Mostly. Kind-of.
Kyle as a character connected with a side of me not many books can connect to, let alone people. Sidonia had a way of digging straight into me in a way I hadn't expected, especially when our conversation at the table was comedy-centric.
I will continue to sing her praises while jokingly cursing her name for making me find my patience. I'm thrilled that there will be another book in the series, and will happily read anything she publishes.
What a debut by Sidonia Rose. She gives well developed characters and a great story line. Kyle is ready to move forward in her life. Her next stop college. Lance is her boyfriend and the star quarterback but is headed to a different college. The long distance relationship will be tough. When love is involved there are more things to consider. Kyle becomes friends with Nicholas who wants more. Sidonia Rose takes you on a journey with Kyle. You get sucked into the read and you are wanting more. Decisions are made that you just want to reach in the book and give the character what for but then there is a little twist and you want to cheer for them. I enjoy this journey and I am looking forward to more from Sidonia Rose. What will happen with Kyle, Lance and Nicholas? Stay tuned to find out.
Coming into your own is hard with an older brother that is trying to control your life and trying to stay on course, to top that off a secret in your past that you are trying to forget. Kyle has a no dating law that she adopted after a bad night years ago. Things was going great until she met that one person that will not talk no for answer, Nick. But, life is not that simple because big brother is not having it and what dark secret is Nick hiding? This is a great book with a cliffhanger that will have you calling the author at home, but Don't ! Loved it!!! I can't wait to read the next book :)
Ugh! I need the next book now, :) What a great book. I had the pleasure to met Sidonia Rose at an author signing. She is such a sweet person. And funny too! She told me about the book, as soon as I left the signing, I downloaded and started reading. There were many times I wanted to slap Kyle. But towards the end I wanted to hug her. I love these type of books that pulls emotions out of you. I don't even know what to say about Kyle and Nick. Kyle fights her attraction for Nick most of the books. And he fights for her. This book is worth the read, and I'm really looking forward to the next one!
I loved the banter and pranks that Kyle and George go back and forth with .. really had me cracking up .. Nick and Kyle's relationship appears outwardly normal .. but several things are not adding up .. Kyle questions things to herself but never openly questions others due to her past .. Will she get her answers? Will her and Nick have their own HEA or will they be over almost as soon as they're getting started? I can't wait for the next installment
Hmmm not sure where i am sitting with this one, I am rather pissed off at the ending...I had no idea it was going to be part of a series and with a cliffhanger to boot. I would have waited to read it had I known. Full review to come on the 3rd of April.
What a sweet story. Watching kyle struggle against Nick and what her heart deserves is like sitting on pins and needles. Nick proves that chivalry is not dead. When everything seems to be going great Kyle's past shows up and threatens to ruin everything
