The definition of a popcorn thriller, The Bachelorette Party kept me under its thrall from beginning to end. A twist-filled ride full of deception and dread, the multiple mysteries and ever ratcheting fear packed quite the punch. But it was the juxtaposition of the dual timelines that won me over hook, line, and sinker. Between a spine-tingling glimpse into the past and Alex’s present day bachelorette party from hell, the intensity hit just the right chord as the unease oozed from the pages. All together, I was seriously glad that my lights were still on as I flew through this quick, easy read.

As much as I loved the mood of the plot, the characters left me wanting just the tiniest bit. Far from fully fleshed out, they all fell somewhat flat. That’s not to say that I wasn’t rooting for Alex. A persona that was on the cusp of an unreliable narrator, she opened the door for me to side-eye not only her, but all those involved. After all, that piece of the puzzle was a slam dunk success as was the overall horror flick feel. Evoking the atmosphere of a Hitchcockian film, the sense that “something wicked this way comes” was downright sublime.

Sadly, the wins came with some unfortunate flaws. You see, the big, giant twist and horror-filled conclusion went beyond over-the-top and moved directly into anticlimactic. To be frank, it just didn’t work for me despite its well-plotted guise. I’m sure there are plenty of mystery/thriller lovers out there, however, who will read it and be utterly over the moon. And even though the climax and finale didn’t quite hit the spot for me, they also didn’t ruin this terror-inducing plot in the slightest.

All in all, I had a blast riding shotgun with Alex and her friends. With deliciously short chapters, an addictive mixed media format, and no end to the palpable tension, it gave me definite Freida McFadden vibes. And trust me, that is high praise indeed. A plot that will keep you on the edge of your seat from the first page until the last, it was propulsive and fast-paced all while also being a barrel of fun. So if you love that delightful trope of a vacation gone wrong, sign yourself up for this book ASAP. After all, it was unguessable, binge-worthy, and full of suspense. Rating of 4 stars.

Alex and her friends get a thrill out of staying at the allegedly haunted hunting lodge in the Catskill mountains where a serial killer once stabbed his victim and wrote 666 on the walls in her blood. I want my time back. All of it.

The reasons behind absolutely everything in this book are simply stupid. Instead of being shocking, each reveal is simply more and more irritating.

How can anyone expect a reader to accept it???

Time and again, the lack of logic hurt my brain. The MC needs to throw her entire social circle away and start over. The mystery of our killer is banal, our convicted killer is even more banal, and the everything-but-the-kitchen-sink plot is more befuddling than entertaining.

I finished the book – hence the 2 stars – but I don’t even know what I just read.

2⭐️

I was going to write a more positive review but honestly I just can't. This was a three star read for most of the way through, but the ending was so horrendously stupid that I took a star away.

Our main character Alex is a true-crime reporter/intern who doesn't actually seem very good at her job. She is writing a report/segment on the 10th anniversary of the 666 killer, Eric Meyers, who insists that he's innocent. So we have one timeline of her doing a terrible job at interviews and rehashing all the information she's gathered from police and trial reports, and the second timeline of her bachelorette weekend.

Her friends decide it would be fun (these friends are the worst) to spend the night at the infamous location of the biggest 666 murder, a depressing, heatless cabin in the middle of nowhere. Alex couldn't come here for research so I don't know why they thought this would be a good idea? Truly I would've gotten right back in the car and left.

This book is also filled with these prose-like sentences, like the authoer wanted it to sound really beautiful and poetic. This is an actual quote from the book after Alex reads an autopsy report, showing how much this did not work: "They don't paint the full picture of Nicole White, who was alive before she was dead." ALIVE BEFORE SHE WAS DEAD. You don't say.

A few things that irked me while reading:
-Alex goes to visit Ryan, a witness/original suspect of the 666 murder, and essentially writes him off as the killer because he lives in a trailer and drinks beer. She hasn't even interviewed him yet, but assumes he's too dumb to pull of a murder. Only people with high IQ's kill people I guess?

-The whole entire issue with the dreams. Alex is on medication for I think stress, which is totally fine- but one of the side effects is vivid dreams that she physically acts out. Like she punched her fiancee in the face, punched a wall, and literally stabbed a pillow with a kitchen knife. Her solution? To sleep in the guest bedroom with wind chimes on the door. At this point I almost put the book down from her absolute stupidly.

-Alex is getting threatening notes at work, which she assumes in from someone connected to the 666 murders. NOPE. Turns out they're from Greg, her soon-to-be stepson who is only twelve. They somehow had his DNA on file from a trip he once took to a police station with his school?? What are the f**king chances of that actually happening. We also never even meet Greg on page, so why would we care? Once Alex finds out, we never see her confront her fiancee, and in the end she's like "don't' even worry, let's forget about it." So what was the point of having this?

-There was a moment when Alex finally got cell service but also remembered that she saw a car mentioned in an Amber Alert (my god this book is so all over the place) and instead of calling the police with this potentially vital information, she calls her fiancee first. Nice.

ARC for review. To be published September 1, 2024.

Alex is a true-crime devotee and her friends Lainey and Melody have planned the surprise bachelorette party of her dreams, taking her to the Catskills, specifically to an alleged haunted hunting lodge where ten years ago Eric Myers, the 666 serial killer stabbed a victim and wrote on the walls in her blood. Alex recently had a chance to interview this killer in prison as part of her internship with an investigative news show (because, you know, that’s what interns do. They don’t file and do grunt work. They interview high profile killers.)

The women are hanging out, then go to bed. Then Alex wakes up to find her friends are missing and her hands are covered in blood, and so are their sleeping bags. Did the police get the right person or is the 666 killer still at large? Could Alex be responsible? Can she find her friends?

Let me tell you, this group is about the dumbest collection of people in the world. I won’t spoil anything by listing the many, many ways in which this is true, but suffice it to say that by the end you kind of hope a serial killer comes along and puts them all out of your misery. Read at your own risk.

Honestly don’t see that ending coming, which I always love. This book was super twisty but the end had me shoooook. A few loose ends nagged at me but otherwise would definitely recommend to anyone who loves a twisty turny read! Thanks to NetGalley for the chance to review!!

I couldn't have asked for a more twisted story than "The Bachelorette Party." Alex's passion for serial killers adds thrilling excitement to the audiobook experience. Her friends deserve applause for infusing this eerie element into her celebration. As for the party itself, you'll have to wait and see how it all unfolds!

Sharing Alex's fascination with serial killers and haunted houses, I was as thrilled as she was about her bachelorette party. It's one of the most original and gripping ideas I've come across. The audiobook narrator's skill at building suspense and sending shivers down my spine at all the right moments is commendable. The ending, as twisted as a mountain road, is full of unexpected twists that keep you engaged. However, there was something that didn't quite click with me, and I'm still figuring out why it fell short of a five-star rating for me.

Thanks to Sandra Block and HighBridge Audio for gifting me this audiobook through NetGalley. Rest assured that all opinions expressed here are my own and given willingly.

In short, this book was not good.

As a general rule, I don’t give 1⭐️ reviews. I find it to be disrespectful to authors and just all around cruel. But this one was necessary. I will be respectful as I can be, while maintaining honesty.

First of all, the timelines jumped around entirely too much. It was far too difficult to follow. Several characters were added for no good reason, and only made the plot far more complicated than necessary.

Second of all, everything relating to the actual crime in the center of the story was too complicated. The “A” girls, the survivor, all the suspects, the random podcast, it was all way too much, especially IN ADDITION to Alex’s struggles in the current day timeline.

And we were pushed so hard to believe, as readers, through the ENTIRE book that Jay was suspicious all for him to…be fine? A red herring is one thing. Beating readers over the head with a character as a suspect over and over for them to not be suspicious at all in the end is just entirely too much.

What Alex’s friends did was absolutely ludicrous. 20/10 absolutely unrealistic, insane, asinine, even. And she just…wasn’t bothered? At all? That they made her believe she KILLED someone? Made her believe she was in danger? DRUGGED HER WITH AMBIEN?! And she wasn’t even that mad about it? No. Just…no. Also, Zoloft is a pretty mild SSRI. It would not make someone sleepwalk as described. Ambien has been known to do that. But not Zoloft. I’ve taken both. I’m well versed in both of these drugs and it’s just fully implausible.

And the narrator was not good. Her accents were so bad. 😩 Either someone who was familiar with Australian accents should have been cast, or she should have just not done an accent for Jay. It was cringy every single time.

Overall, I did not like this book at all.

The Bachelorette Party // Available Now

“It’ll be an adventure,” they said. Alex wasn’t so sure and she had every right to be worried. But none of them could have predicted that the trip that was supposed to be a memorable moment in time would become memorable for all the wrong reasons.

This is a fun locked-room thriller/mystery that grabs your attention from the start. The story alternates between the now and six months ago. I enjoyed the “bonus” parts which include a podcast, Tweets, lists, other notes, and interviews. These always make a book much more intriguing.

Alex’s girlfriends have planned a killer bachelorette party for her. They’re going to spend the weekend at a haunted cabin where a famous murder dubbed the “666 Killings” happened. But things quickly take a turn for the worse when they’re trapped by a storm and Alex wakes up to find her friends missing and the place covered in blood.

This is a great mystery mixed with lots of thrills. It was supposed to be something fun but then it went all wrong. Let the games begin.

I love Block's books and this was one of those that when you finish you may think, "Did I have a dream...or a nightmare?" Alex is away for the night on her bachelorette party with her two closest friends, Melody and Lainey. Because Alex is an intern at Crimeline, they have arranged to stay in a creepy lodge where the famed serial killer, Eric Myers committed his heinous crimes and is now in prison. But there are more surprises than any of them bargained for as Alex awakens in the basement with blood everywhere after they smoked dope and her friends are nowhere to be found! Alternating in time between now and earlier, the novel details Alex's suspicions about her fiancee, her friends, the man in jail, and just about everyone she's come in contact with in the last ten years. It's bloody, gruesome, but such a great tale that had my head spinning like the Exorcist!

I was approved for this ARC a while ago and had it on my list to read closer to the publication date. Then I saw others’ reviews popping up (not great) and it made me start to dread reading it, so I kept pushing it off.

Finally came the time to just dive in. Once I started reading I couldn’t stop. I loved the pace of the book and past/present timelines. The present chapters had an eerie suspenseful feel. The past chapters provided more character building and context. The writing makes sense as the reader is only inside Alex’s mind, which makes it a true psychological thriller. While I can see the major twist as being frustrating to some, this was overall a bingeable fun read.

Alex works as an intern for Crimeline in NYC and is determined to present a great story that will allow her to move up in the company/her career. She’s chosen to deep dive into a murder from 10 years ago. Eric Myers was found guilty and is currently serving his sentence in prison for the gruesome 666 murder. Alex wants to dig deeper to determine if there is any possibility of Eric being innocent. Jump ahead to present day December and Alex’s best friends are surprising her with renting the actual cabin the murder took place for her bachelorette party. What starts as fun-spooky turns into a nightmare. Alex wakes up to a bloody cabin and her friends missing.

This isn’t for everyone, but I’m so glad I read it! I’ve been needing a book I can finish in a day to get me out of a slump of books that take me longer than usual to read.

Thank you to NetGalley and Penzler Publishers for this ARC in exchange for my honest review. This review will be shared on NetGalley, Goodreads, and Amazon.

💍 𝙈𝙮 𝙏𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙨 💍
This was my first read for as an ambassador for the 𝑩𝒐𝒐𝒌𝑺𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒌𝒔 𝑭𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝑹𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒈𝒆 and it was a fun, twisty one!

We have Alex who is doing investigative research at her job on the famous 666 killer. The tenth anniversary of the killings is coming up so Alex gets to look into the case. In the meantime, she is newly engaged and her friends plan a Bachelorette Party where they take her to the famous hunting lodge where the 666 killer murdered someone. All seems well until after a night of drinking with her friends, she wakes up to blood everywhere and her friends gone. She’s worried her recent investigation may have stirred up the past and now they are all in danger.

This book has super short chapters that kept me engaged and needing to read more at the end of each one. The chapters feature chat rooms and research Alex does that makes the story interesting. It also goes back and forth in time from when Alex first researched to her present day Bachelorette Party.

This is definitely an interesting suspense thriller to pick up this fall! I wish there was some more detail at the end of the story though. It felt rushed after the mystery was unveiled!

🎧 𝙉𝙖𝙧𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 🎧
Lexi Mae did a great job narrating Alex in this suspenseful thriller! She was easy to understand, and narrated her POV and other characters dialogue in the story well. The calmness in her voice as she tells this story is what I’d imagine her character to sound like.

Thank you to Netgalley and RBMedia for the audiobook.

As some have said before, this was a 3 star read throughout. People were pissing me off right and left, but I was willing to look past it because at least it was an accurate depiction of True Crime fans just being Like That.

Wisdom is chasing Alex, but she is faster.

My Spidey senses felt that ending "twist" at the beginning of the book and I had desperately hoped I was just being silly and pessimistic.
Unfortunately not.
Some people enjoy endings like the one in this story, however I am absolutely not one of them.

I really wish I had enjoyed this book, but suffice to say this story and I were incompatible.

I have to be honest; I was a little taken aback by the average for The Bachelorette Party by Sandra Block on Goodreads but as soon as I got to the first big twist, I fully understood the reason for this. This is OUT THERE folks, but I loved every dang minute of it. The tension that Block managed to create in these pages was bloody fantastic and just the is he or isn’t he guilty on top of what happens at the party? Chef’s kiss. 👨🏼‍🍳💋 I really can’t say I liked any of the characters all that much, but I will say I was surprised by one of them. I was not a fan at all for the longest time, and somehow things managed to turn out.

The audiobook for this one was a little meh for me, but I did enjoy Lexi Mae’s narration for the most part. She cannot do an Australian accent to save her life though, and I wish she would have just used her normal voice for Alex’s fiancé Jay. I also found myself wishing they had taken advantage of the podcast piece of the book and did some special sound effects, but it was a missed opportunity. I loved the back and forth between the present-day bachelorette party and the previous months with Alex’s investigation into the 666 Killer and whether the man convicted is actually him. It made for a very pacey read that flew by and kept me turning the pages. The end was mind blowing, and I never saw it coming.

Read this if you are looking for a popcorn thriller with plenty of blood, thrills, and side of serial killer.

Audiobook Rating: ⭐⭐⭐.5

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Ty to NetGalley and everyone for the audio ARC!!!

A serial killer obsessed woman who sleepwalks visiting a murder cabin/previous crime scene? What can go wrong? Simply... Everything. Alex wakes up the next morning with blood on her hands. Literally. And is thrown straight into a murder mystery as she discovered her two missing best friends: Melody and Laney.

This went from zero to 100 REEEEEAL QUICK. It was fast paced, and Alex went off on a strange adventure to get to a phone or to get help from the police. It was gripping, sometimes lacking at certain parts, but it was a good story.

Alex works as an intern at Crime Line, and is planning a wedding to her fiance, struggling with the fact that she has a 12 year old stepson at 26 and that her fiance is hiding a secret.

Eric Meyers, the 666 'serial killer', claims to be innocent and Alex is working on his story. "Hell is hot, and I got burnt." I did like most of the interviews with him.

The chapters were super super super short. It was frustrating sometimes, albeit entertaining, switching between them and now. Just as I was getting super into it, it would switch to a new chapter. I didn't really like the podcast chapters too much.

I really did like the voice of the narrator. It was sweet, intriguing and kept me interested. Also, super props for all the accents and all the different voices she can do.

I didn't expect the ending twist, and I freaking hate/loved it. My mouth was hanging open and I wanted to yeet my phone across the room.

Honestly, I'm a teensy but disappointed with the ending.

Alex deserves WAY better than her fiance and "best friends".

I feel like I need to sit down for an hour and process the last hour of this book.

This book was something. After I was finished with it I wasn't really sure how I felt about it.

Alex is about to marry a wonderful man and she's an intern for a popular investigative news program. Her life seems perfect. She's currently researching the "666 killer" and is a bit obsessed. Her best friends, Lainey and Meoldy, take that into consideration when planning her bachlorette party. They surprise her with a weekend in the Catskills at the cabin where one of the murders took place. The killer actually wrote 666 in blood on the wall there. After a night of drinking Alex wakes up in the shower covered in blood. She soon discovers the whole house is covered in blood and her best friends are no where to be found. There's no cell service so she treks out into the blizzard to try and call for help. Alex does have a sleep disorder where she's violent in her sleep but has no recollection of it when she wakes. Could she have hurt her friends? Or did the 666 killer escape from jail? Or is the person in jail actually innocent and the real killer still out there?

This book was told in multiple timelines and was fast-paced. There was definitely a lot going on and it kept my attention. It was a quick easy read with plenty of twists. I was definitely shocked by the ending. However, I was not a fan of it. It actually made me angry, lol😂 I was thinking what kind of best friends would do that? There was also a line in the book that really annoyed me and I just couldn't get past it. But I did love the setting of the cabin in the Catskills during a blizzard and it was an entertaining read. Just because I didn't love this one doesn't mean you won't.

What a fun popcorn thriller! Alex is trying to reopen the 666 killer serial case on ‘Crimetime’ the murder show she interns for. She’s also getting married and her two besties think they know the perfect bachelorette setting for her party.Surprise ☠️

✔️Old killing cabin of the case Alex is working on.
✔️ In the middle of nowhere during an icy snowstorm and no cell service.
✔️ Neighboring farmhouse whose family was also involved in the case.

What could go wrong right? ☠️😂
The ending is absolutely insane and SO fun. I loved every bit of it. It’s not a literary masterpiece here but it was just what I needed. Oh and I did I mention fun?

No spoilers but if you enjoy true frictional crime, old murder cases that people just weren’t solved correctly, and crazy women friendships where anything goes…this is a great read. DO IT- I laughed and grimaced 😬 through it all.

I’m now going back to read all this authors books for sure! Perfect for me, right now!

I’m like, annoyed I spent time reading this. The entire plot was wildly unbelievable, and super predictable. At one point, very early on, I was like “it can’t be…” and well, it was. Each “reveal” just made me more annoyed. But I wanted to see how it ended, so I give it 2 stars for that.

Apparently some people's idea of fun is taking their friend to a murder house for her bachelorette party?

This book was way too outlandish to be enjoyable. Reveal after reveal at the end was just absurd. I almost DNFed about halfway through but with the promise of a shocking ending per other people's reviews, I stuck with it. I should have just looked for spoilers and saved myself some time!

Audiobook narration was average, with the narrator's attempts at Australian and Long Island accents being painful to listen to.

Skip this one.

I received an audio ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

*Audiobook

A GENEROUS ⭐️⭐️⭐️ on this one but honestly it’s prob more of a 2.75. This had all of the makings of a solid thriller but then the 👠👠 heels came off 😂🤣😂.

There were so many good aspects to this one but it had entirely too much going on. It felt a bit discombobulated most of the book.

The fiancé stuff, 666 Killings, hunting lodge and bachelorette party was just doing too much. I know it was all supposed to be a means to an end but it just felt like entirely separate stories and too many good ideas coming at me at once and just not working for me.

I will say the last like 25% made it worthwhile because I was like omg geez I don’t trust anyone or anything.

I don’t want to say too much and spoil anything but we would really need to have a chat following this weekend in the hunting cabin. Like things in my orbit would be switching up pretty significantly. A whole new world.

The audio narration was on point though.

The Bachelorette Party by Sandra Block and narrated by Lexi May. The story begins with Mel, Lany the bachelorette Alex all heading to a surprise location which winds up being the murder cabin of the 666 killer. Alex is engaged to perfect Jay and is an intern for prime time a true crime show I believe it’s a TV show. She’s researching the killer Eric who claims to be innocent and despite being an intern she even has a shot at interviewing him on the show, but it’s all up to her manager Toby. The story goes back-and-forth between the bachelorette party and her in the recent pass researching the killer and life with perfect J. The night of the party they smoke a little weed just like the original murder victims did in the next morning when Alex wakes up big tall Mel and little short Lany are missing. For a brief moment Alex sees the blood on her hands and slumber bags and believes she may have even been the one to kill her two best friends but she gets all her wits together and her True Crime knowledge and sets out to see if she could find her friends or at the very least help. It’s around this point that me and the book started to part ways it got so very ridiculous although the twist do come and trust me when I say they do have twist there just not the kind that leave you going OMG but instead you’re going WTF? I knew in the beginning of the story when they tell us that 4 foot 11 Laney was a working actress that they were going to be stretching reality for the reader but the whole thing with her friends and then when she’s reminiscing about Mal and the good times she says remember the week Mel satin her room and we got her therapy… Yes because that sounds like a blast. This book was just out of the box and although the narrator Lexi Mae had a nice voice I don’t think it’s one made for audiobooks. #NetGalley,#HighbridgeAudio, #SandraBlock, #TheBacheloretteParty, #LexiMay,

The bachelorette party

Alex is getting married to Jay and per tradition, a bachelorette party is in the works. However, this party is just with a few friends. Her friends Laney and Melody plan a true crime themed event, centered around Alex’s obsession with the 666 serial killer.

But do they go too far when they plan a night at one of the lodges where the 666 killer murdered one of their victims?? The weather takes a turn and they get snowed in.

The story jumps between present day and 6 months previously leading up to the party. There is also back and forth between I think a podcast ? Or true crime show. You see Alex in action as she interviews the 666 killer who swears he is innocent and the killer is still out there.

Back to present day, Alex’s friends question if she’s sure about the wedding and if she is sure it’s the real thing. It was a whirlwind romance. The first night it’s revealed from Alex’s perspective that she has tendency to have horrible nightmares, sleep walk, or perform injurious tasks when she sleeps.

Alex wakes up to her friends gone and blood all over the lodge, which makes her wonder- is the 666 killer still out there and targeting her? Alex has to survive the weather, the threat, and use her true crime skills to try and discover what happened to her friends and save them if she can.

I found the narrator to be was expressive and did a nice job switching voices, listened at 2.5 x.

I got a bit confused between timelines and characters. For me, the story was exciting but just okay. Didn’t expect the twist, liked the unreliable narrator perspective and mystery. The plot was pretty disjointed to me, I would read more from the author and give another chance, this one just wasn’t my favorite.

Thank you to NetGalley and RBMedia for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. Release date 9/3/24!

If I had a nickel for every book I've read in the past year where the FMC sleepwalks and thinks that could possibly make her a psychopath I'd have two quarters. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.

The book has dual timelines, one taking place at the current time in remote New York, the second takes place several months prior in New York City. In the current timeline future bride Alex is headed to her bachelorette party with her two best friends. In the past timeline, you follow Alex as she researches a new angle on the 666 murders. When her proximity to the murders and her bachelorette party meet things get messy.

The Bachelorette Party reads like a debut novel, the dialogue is bare bones and there are many overplayed elements featured in the plot. While the past plot line is crucial for some backstory regarding the 666 murders the majority of it is filler. There are many chapters thrown in of podcast episodes and X threads. It got to the point where I skim-read the majority of the past chapters and only read the chapters happening in the current timeline.

The ending was something I had considered when I began reading the book and I wish Block would have went a different direction. When the cause of the crazy path Alex had been on throughout the whole book is revealed it was underwhelming. It made the book feel like it was not worth it.

Thank you, NetGalley and the publisher for sending me an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Alex, a true crime devotee obsessed with the infamous 666 serial killer, is getting married and her two best friends decide it will be fun to have her bachelorette party at the supposedly haunted hunting lodge in the Catskill mountains where one of the 666 killings took place. They get snowed in by a blizzard and Alex wakes up to her friends missing and blood all over the cabin. The book jumps back and forth in time between flashbacks to Alex investigating the 666 killer case then forward to her using this information and her instincts to attempt to solve the case, survive, and find her friends (if they’re still alive).
This book was definitely not for me. I liked the concept and was really into the story at first but after finishing it, I felt it could have been executed better. The twists throughout were so unrealistic that it was difficult to suspend belief and remain engaged. None of the characters were very likeable so it was difficult to root for anyone. There also were so many additional characters and storylines that never really contributed much to the story or amounted to anything. The book was too long so I think a lot of these extra storylines to provide distraction and confusion could have been cut down and streamlined.
To top it all off, the major twist with her friends was really just the absolute WORST. What kind of friends do those things, especially at a bachelorette party? Everything was planned… seriously? I didn’t see it coming because it was so unrealistic and made no sense to me. It felt like a cop out to explain everything away. I will say that the narrator for the audiobook was great and kept me engaged throughout, I just wish the story had a better ending and explanation. ok so like WHAT.

here's what we have: dual timelines where in flashbacks - main girlie works at a fictionalized version of dateline where she is getting to know a serial killer through interviews to see if he is truly innocent. but!!! she's also getting married to a very hot very rich man.

in the other timeline, her present day - her besties take her for a bachelorette party (just girlie things!!!) except these bing bongs decide to stay at the house where her new serial killer friend, supposedly took care of several people.

all three are shocked to learn it's still SPOOKY AF. they all decide to get high and then chaos ensues.

there are several things in the plot mentioned but never wrapped up but like this was a WILD TIME. like the twist I kinda suspected but the way everyone just responded was not... not as shocked.

ok lastly, I think this was a debut novel? the writing is a little rough like the narrator says "I did not remember anything. i did not remember receiving medicine, I did not remember getting checked on..." girl why list it if you don't friggin remember??

2.5 ⭐️

This was a fast-paced, dual timeline thriller, which was essentially a crime junkie bachelorette party from hell. Alex, girl, get yourself a new social circle… please, we’re all begging you (because your semi-psychotic friends are not it).

The ending of this is what really picked up for me, because truthfully, it took me an incredibly long time to finish this book. I do love a fast-paced thriller, especially when I can’t figure out what’s going on right away, but this one felt pretty dry for me until the last 5 or so chapters, at which point I thought that the writing was pulling at straws.

Overall, this thriller wasn’t my favourite but the concept was interesting! If you’re a crime junkie then you will enjoy the premise behind The Bachelorette Party. I will admit that my theory of what might be going on was thrown out the window at the end!

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for an honest review (despite it being terribly late!).

The Bachelorette Party is an entertaining popcorn thriller with multiple twists and turns. It was a fast paced read, filled with action from start to finish. There's definitely things that kept me guessing until the end while others were pretty predictable.

Now the characters were a little all over the place for me as the plot. I felt like I was missing some resolution for certain plot points to get the full excitement. Although it is still a fun ride through and through, it will definitely keep you entertained from start to finish.

The final twist or conclusion was not what I was expecting, I wished it did go in a different direction, but that's just me !

🎧 The narration by Lexi Mae was good. I just would've liked more of a direction as to the characters, since there were a lot, it was sometimes confusing to follow, and I had to listen again. But her performance was good.

Alex’s bridesmaids organized the best, most original bachelorette party for her. I love the idea of spending the night in a murder house, with my best friends! I would almost be jealous of them, except I know what happens after they arrive. Let me tell you.. I would be questioning those friendships real hard afterwards.
This book has all the ingredients for a great thriller. You have locked room environment, a podcast investigation, a bunch of alternate suspects, a violent sleep disorder, and a boat load of paranoia. There is a lot going on in this book, especially with the timeline jumping, but it all works. My interest was held the entire time, trying to put together the pieces of the puzzle. There are quite a few suspenseful moments, where I had no clue what direction it was going. I can’t imagine the story board the author must have had to come up with this book.

Alex is a 26 year old true crime intern. She is engaged and her close friends are taking her away for a bachelorette weekend. What is suppose to be a fun getaway quickly turns dark and scary.

I thought the premise was different and had hoped to be fully engaged and entertained with this audiobook. Unfortunately for me, this story fell flat. The chapters were short which added to the suspense, but there was too much going on and the flow was disjointed. I found myself going back and forth quite a bit. The cast of characters were not at all likable or very well developed. The ending left me underwhelmed. I think I would have enjoyed the physical book more.

Since I’m a new audio listener, I can’t really comment on the narrator. I did have to listen to this at a faster pace.

Thanks to NetGalley and Highbridge Audio for this gifted audio. This is my honest opinion.
