A dystopian future where people live in islands, often lacking water but having nonetheless comfortable lives. Following journeys with some cloud hunters, this nice book is the occasion to discover an unusual world.
Christien lives on an island, one floating in the sky. A long time ago, humankind lived on Earth, but events happened and, now, all that remains are floating islands. Humans have adapted as much as they could, trying to find solutions to the new problems that arose from this life: islands became kingdoms with their own laws, technology evolved to permit to sail between the lands and cloud hunters tried to find water. Animals evolved too, in different ways, as there are now sky-sharks and other flying whales. Christien is a normal young, with a big but not reachable dream: he wants to become a cloud hunter. In his school, there is a cloud hunter girl, he tries very hard to become friend with her, so maybe he will be part of the adventure.
The world building was a candy. I enjoyed all its wonders, so unusual and so interesting, it was easy to picture everything and I was eager to learn more things about it. The various societies and the way humans behave were believable. As a narrator, the boy explained too much everything, which is nice for the world building, but not so much for really entering the story. However, I liked his thoughts about society, I'm not sure children really pay attention to them, but as an adult, it was interesting. I wasn't subjugated by the story, which was kind of average, but it was supported very well by the world building and Kaneesh. I think this man deserves a full adult book, in this world, it could be amazing. Overall, a nice read and I'd fun with the travel in the sky.

Only very rarely do perfect books come one's way. When they do, they should be treasured, shared, read and re-read. I haven't read anything as exquisite and beautiful as The Cloud Hunters for years. My only complaint is that I wish there was more. A lot more.
Christien is a young boy on the very cusp of growing up, seeing the world differently, asking questions he would have never asked as a child. I'd peg him at between eleven and fifteen, but the story doesn't clarify. It doesn't matter - Christien's adventure, his coming of age, will speak to everyone, his wry observations of adult life will provoke smiles, the way he views the world make you think. I think he'll stay with me for a long time. Jenine, his class-mate and eventual friend, is equally interesting. Her Cloud Hunter heritage and pragmatic view on life are intriguing, signs of her unusual upbringing.
Together they lead us on a wonderful adventure of self discovery - plotted superbly by the author and - full of the weird and the wonderful. The world-building is superb: a planet made up of floating islands and a more viscous atmosphere, where the 'sun' is the fiery planet core and the 'sea' is the air. Ships sail on air, people swim in the air, and the skies teem with sea-based wildlife. Water is scarce, a precious commodity, traded for all other goods, and only the Cloud Hunters risk their lives to ply the trade. Everyone wants water, but everyone wants to hate the dark, mysterious people who bring it to their islands. It's an amazing setting, and I loved getting to know more about the islands, the people who live on them and the ways in which life is different on this planet. I think the author spent a long time thinking this world through, and I found it to be internally consistent.
Although the world is imagined in rich detail, I think the plot is even more so. We're told the story in first person, privy to Christien's wonder, fear and curiosity, and always aware of his attachment to Jenine. While the world building does bog the story down, only very slightly, I think the plot weaves in and out of Christien's inner monologue well. His eagerness to dream, to experience new things is hampered by the worry of his parents, the expectations of his society and the thought of what is 'proper': good boys and girls just don't become Cloud Hunters.
The Cloud Hunters is a superbly told tale of courage and the power of dreams, one I think is perfect for all readers. It's the book you read when you want to relax, take some time out, get away from it all. It's a book that will stay with you long, long after you have turned the last page, closed the cover, and given a contended sigh.

Great idea, and I was looking forward to hearing about this future vision, but I felt it was a bit of a cop out that almost everything from our sea was transported into the sky (sharks, whales, jellyfish) for this world. Also I recognize this is for a younger audience, but I didn't like the writing style and some of the plot, it was a bit simplistically put together. I am comparing to something like the golden compass which I was much more drawn into.

August 7, 2013Books like this do not come along often and when they do you should hold onto them for as long as possible. This book transports you into a universe where islands float in the sky and where adventure is only for the brave. With beautiful descriptions, Alex Shearer creates a visually impressive world that makes the reader want to stay in the world for as long as possible. The problem comes when the plot line makes you want to turn the page more and more every time, but at the same time you don't want to finish the book. This book leaves you wondering what you could do that would be as good as the adventure you just witnessed with Christien and the Cloud Hunters. A book that ignites your imagination and keeps you turning the pages.

Sometimes, just sometimes, you read a book that sings poetry to your soul. Like a kindred spirit it delves deep within and leaves you dreaming. Such a book for me is this, a treasured rarity. The story of a world in the skies, celebration of a way of life different to the norm and a boy coming of age with the gentlest love story. I will enjoy my children discovering it in their turn.

What a gorgeous book! This whole world created in the sky it's one of the most amazing ideas I've came across!!
Fairly easy read and there are so many beautiful quotes that I underlined! Definitely recommend if you're looking for a light, adventurous read 😊

A fun idea about islands in the sky but something about the story left me wanting more. The first half of the book is spent explaining the world and the main plot doesnt happen until halfway through. An interesting read with a lot of potential but it fell a bit flat for me.

Our main character is a kid still in school, Christien. Weird enough, I don't actually found out what grade he was in during this whole adventure happens, not that it's extremely important. The story is told in Chris future POV. He was recounting the story for us.
This is his story when he joined a trip of cloud hunting. He, as all normal boys are, wanted to taste adventure. And there is nothing more perfect that cloud hunting. It is an era where water is scarce, if you have water, you can sell it in reasonable price (perhaps expensive on some places). Land is already inhabitable at this era, everything is built on a more solid floating grounds in sky(you'll get plenty of explanations from the book). To obtain water, people use condenser machine to turn cloud into moisture. Of course for people in islands, clouds are scarce to come by.
Cloud Hunter resembles gypsy. They have certain marks and they are nomadic people. They (if not the water they managed to find) are wanted by people but at the same time, they are shunned because of their nomadic and traditional culture (well, trust me even if you said you wouldn't judge people by appearance, two long scars from eye to cheek bound to let people think of the worst)
It was made clear from the first that Chris is interested in Jenine. Both as a girl and cloud hunter. The story depict their distinct difference in culture and way of thinking throughout the events. Chris is a likeable character. He is amusing, slightly childish but unexpectedly wise at the same time. I find his character is very much a common pre-teenage would really be. It's something kids or even adults can relate to, you grow to care for and interested in him.
The story is quite realistic, the settings are unique. Although I find trying to move every sea fish to the sky is a rather funny attempt.
All in all the book is interesting enough. True it bogged down slightly at the beginning with a lot of scene explanation but how else could you grasp the world setting without it? This book is not for you if you are looking for big actions or those story that make you grip your seat waiting for the next events. No, this is a book that you would want to read when you want to enjoy your evening, remembering your own experience when you were a kid. Hesitant but eager to fly to reach your dream but unconsciously tying a safety chain called reality. You learn to love and you learn to let go. You may once tasted an adventure in your life, and just like Cris, it's something that you wouldn't forget, for good or for bad.

I think this is my favourite book of all time. I particularly like where the book is setting as well as the fact that this doesn't entirely focus on fighting/combat. To me, this book was what I was searching for a couple of years and so I really hope somebody does make an anime or a film out of this. This book is truly amazing and I would recommend this book to everybody who does not want a book about fighting/combat and perhaps looking for a calm fantasy book.
To be honest, this does remind me of Howl's Moving Castle but with many philosophical elements. Christien discusses philosophical points with the reader and it really does make you think in awe, 'How does such a young boy, knows very well how to tackle some of everyday events?'
And then you realise, that it is the beauty of the author's writing that makes the book so amazing.
I do hope though this is just as successful as Howl's Moving Castle and I hope so much that someone does make an anime that is as successful as Howl's Moving Castle since everything fits the requirements for an anime (amazing and fantasy)

This is an intriguing fantasy about a boy who meets exotic Jenine and her family of cloud hunters. I really enjoyed the imagery and descriptions in this children's adventure story.

Overall, THE CLOUD HUNTERS was a book I was so glad to have a chance to read and whether people were a fan of the ending or not, but I personally had totally loved how a simple idea - a simple but a very creative one at that - turned out to be such a wonderful journey for me and I can't wait to read more from this author!

A brilliant, visual book. I loved the way the islands were rotating around the sun. I loved the idea of them floating around, some not getting night some getting only night. The factions of the islands and the way they're set up, the animals/fish that live in the thick atmosphere, the boats that can float in space. It was such a visual book. And of course the 'pirate' storyline of the cloud hunters, people who seek out clouds to collect and sell the water.

Очень-очень-очень плохо. И перевод, и суть и идеи и сеттинг непродуманный ваще.
Кто-то мог бы обидеться отказу. Но я не из обидчивых, обычное «нет» меня не остановит. Оно в любой момент может превратиться в «да». Всего-то и нужно, что проявить немного упорства. Как заставить человека передумать? Не униматься. Взять хотя бы ребенка, который хочет мороженое, когда его родители говорят «нет». Он кричит, он плачет, он сучит ногами по земле, он задерживает дыхание до посинения. И возможно, все это окажется впустую. А возможно, он получит свой рожок мороженого.
Кроме того, больше никто не приглашал Дженин к себе в гости искупаться в полупустом водяном бассейне.
Ну охуеть теперь -___- Буду ныть и добиваться, потому что все мне должны. В гости пригласил, охереть теперь, да, надо считать, что барышня по гроб жизни должна. Если что - с детьми так тоже нельзя, описан очень плохо воспитанный ребенок, который вообще не понимает ничего.

В этом вся моя мама. Она хорошая, но ужасно не любит идти на уступки. А если уступить все-таки приходилось, ей обязательно нужно было поставить свое условие. Можешь поехать, но выучи при этом уроки. Можешь взять еще конфету, но потом почисти зубы. Непременное какая-нибудь оговорка.
Иногда я даже жалел, что у меня нет брата или сестры. Тогда она могла бы не обращать столько внимания на меня одного. Если бы она пилила двоих, каждому доставалось бы вдвое меньше, надо думать. Но я был единственным ребенком в семье.
Я прям даже не знаю, что говорить...
– Возможно… – он обернулся посмотреть на второй корабль. – Но кто возьмет такую в жены?
Дженин их не слышала – она была у другого борта. Зато я слышал каждое слово. Раньше я никогда особо не задумывался о том, что шрамы, украшавшие их лица, были не просто обрядом и орнаментом. Они ведь вычеркивали их из остальной жизни.
Иэх, во-первых это не единственная ценность. Во-вторых - вы сами ей эти шрамы ритуально нанесли, ничо, норм? В-третьих есть другие охотники за облаками, им будет норм. И вообще - может быть у нее САМОЙ спросить?!
– И… – я уже знал, что она скажет дальше, – …береги себя.
И почему родители всегда напоминают тебе беречь себя? Как будто все, что у тебя на уме, это быть неосторожным, угробить себя или угодить в больницу. Неужели им кажется, что ты только и думаешь, как бы этак навредить самому себе посильнее да побыстрее? А даже если ты неосторожный человек по своей природе, неужели наставление беречь себя действительно помогало кому-то уберечься?
Что-то сомневаюсь.
– Береги себя, Кристьен. Будь осторожен!
– Обязательно, мама! – крикнул я в ответ. – Буду.
Не скажешь же ей, что нет, не буду.
Неблагодарный мудила. Это, если что, в ответ на то, что пацан школьник отправляется на опасную штуку. Ну не знаю, на китобой, например, если на реальный мир переносить.
Но знали они – и Карла, и Дженин, и Каниш. И конечно, им стоило сказать мне обо всем заранее, а не тогда, когда стало уже слишком поздно поворачивать назад. Но я ни в чем не винил и не виню их. Ни сейчас, ни тогда.
Конечно, врать - так хорошо, ты же сам все время так делаешь. Ну норм, чотакова. (Через три главы он будет ныть, что а хуле мне не сказали ничего, я на это не подписывался!)
– Мы обращались в международный суд, и он решил дело в нашу пользу. Ну и что? Какой толк от решений, если их не исполнять? А у межостровных властей нет на это ресурсов. Они патрулируют миллионы километров неба, десятки тысяч островов. Каких только проблем у них нет – пиратство, контрабанда. Им плевать на жизнь отдельно взятого охотника за облаками. У них есть дела поважнее. Мы несущественны, мы просто песчинки. И политикам все равно. Спасение охотника за облаками от виселицы не прибавит голосов на выборах.
Это, если что, мир почти без воды и без охотников за облаками все умрут. Ну да, ну да, никто ничего ради такого не будет делать. Верю, да.
На корабле было пятеро: мужчина, женщина, маленький ребенок, девочка и старший мальчик примерно моих лет. Мне он сразу не понравился, и я ему, кажется, тоже. Меньше всего мне понравилось, как он улыбался Дженин, хоть по ней и нельзя было сказать, что она обратила на это внимание. Но отсутствие причин для ревности еще никого не останавливало. Даже наоборот, чем сомнительнее повод для ревности, тем более пышным цветом она расцветает.

Я был с ней согласен, но промолчал. Лучше не лезть в чужие семейные дела. Иногда лучше не лезть даже в свои семейные дела. В свои, пожалуй, особенно.
Автор, если у тебя семейная жизнь не удалась, потому что ты неблагодарный мудак, который считает, что обманывать и ревновать с нихера - норм, чо ваще такого, это не значит, что нужно всем это проповедовать.
– У меня есть одна идея.
Муж и деверь посмотрели на нее с недоверием. Мне пришло в голову, что ей сейчас, наверное, приходится нелегко. С тех пор, как Михаила взяли под стражу, капитаном на корабле была она – Каниш помогал ей, конечно, но она была главной. Теперь, с возвращением Михаила, главным должен стать он. И не факт, что Карла захочет снять с себя полномочия. Может, отныне на их корабле будет не один капитан, а тандем, может, даже постоянно соперничающий.
Ну да, ну да, признать, что женщина может быть норм или, о боже мой, с ней договориться - это выше наших сил. Буэ.
В этот момент я отчетливо понял, что никогда больше ее не увижу. Я понял, что завтра, когда я приду в порт, их уже тут не окажется.
– Дженин… – сказал я. – Мне совсем нечего тебе подарить…
Но она прижала палец к моим губам.
– Нет, есть, – прошептала она.
Конечно же, она была права. Я наклонился к ней и поцеловал, а потом держал ее в своих объятиях, крепко держал, и она меня тоже, и я говорил ей все, что хотел сказать так давно, с тех самых пор, как впервые ее увидел.
Главная, блять, ценность от неблагодарного мудака, который все время ноет и говорит, что никогда ее не поймет и не будет с ней нарвне. Да. Конечно. Спасибо хоть не свадьба. Хотя на нее там намекали потом, что он ее еще найдет, когда вырастет.
Отвлекаясь от всего пиздеца - точно не надо делать не самого умного подростка всезнающим рассказчиком. Сильно мешает и разрушает достоверность.

Иногда я даже жалел, что у меня нет брата или сестры. Тогда она могла бы не обращать столько внимания на меня одного. Если бы она пилила двоих, каждому доставалось бы вдвое меньше, надо думать. Но я был единственным ребенком в семье.

– Возможно… – он обернулся посмотреть на второй корабль. – Но кто возьмет такую в жены?
Дженин их не слышала – она была у другого борта. Зато я слышал каждое слово. Раньше я никогда особо не задумывался о том, что шрамы, украшавшие их лица, были не просто обрядом и орнаментом. Они ведь вычеркивали их из остальной жизни.
Иэх, во-первых это не единственная ценность. Во-вторых - вы сами ей эти шрамы ритуально нанесли, ничо, норм? В-третьих есть другие охотники за облаками, им будет норм. И вообще - может быть у нее САМОЙ спросить?!
– И… – я уже знал, что она скажет дальше, – …береги себя.
И почему родители всегда напоминают тебе беречь себя? Как будто все, что у тебя на уме, это быть неосторожным, угробить себя или угодить в больницу. Неужели им кажется, что ты только и думаешь, как бы этак навредить самому себе посильнее да побыстрее? А даже если ты неосторожный человек по своей природе, неужели наставление беречь себя действительно помогало кому-то уберечься?
Что-то сомневаюсь.
– Береги себя, Кристьен. Будь осторожен!
– Обязательно, мама! – крикнул я в ответ. – Буду.
Не скажешь же ей, что нет, не буду.
Неблагодарный мудила. Это, если что, в ответ на то, что пацан школьник отправляется на опасную штуку. Ну не знаю, на китобой, например, если на реальный мир переносить.
Но знали они – и Карла, и Дженин, и Каниш. И конечно, им стоило сказать мне обо всем заранее, а не тогда, когда стало уже слишком поздно поворачивать назад. Но я ни в чем не винил и не виню их. Ни сейчас, ни тогда.
Конечно, врать - так хорошо, ты же сам все время так делаешь. Ну норм, чотакова. (Через три главы он будет ныть, что а хуле мне не сказали ничего, я на это не подписывался!)
– Мы обращались в международный суд, и он решил дело в нашу пользу. Ну и что? Какой толк от решений, если их не исполнять? А у межостровных властей нет на это ресурсов. Они патрулируют миллионы километров неба, десятки тысяч островов. Каких только проблем у них нет – пиратство, контрабанда. Им плевать на жизнь отдельно взятого охотника за облаками. У них есть дела поважнее. Мы несущественны, мы просто песчинки. И политикам все равно. Спасение охотника за облаками от виселицы не прибавит голосов на выборах.
Это, если что, мир почти без воды и без охотников за облаками все умрут. Ну да, ну да, никто ничего ради такого не будет делать. Верю, да.
На корабле было пятеро: мужчина, женщина, маленький ребенок, девочка и старший мальчик примерно моих лет. Мне он сразу не понравился, и я ему, кажется, тоже. Меньше всего мне понравилось, как он улыбался Дженин, хоть по ней и нельзя было сказать, что она обратила на это внимание. Но отсутствие причин для ревности еще никого не останавливало. Даже наоборот, чем сомнительнее повод для ревности, тем более пышным цветом она расцветает.

Я был с ней согласен, но промолчал. Лучше не лезть в чужие семейные дела. Иногда лучше не лезть даже в свои семейные дела. В свои, пожалуй, особенно.
Автор, если у тебя семейная жизнь не удалась, потому что ты неблагодарный мудак, который считает, что обманывать и ревновать с нихера - норм, чо ваще такого, это не значит, что нужно всем это проповедовать.

Муж и деверь посмотрели на нее с недоверием. Мне пришло в голову, что ей сейчас, наверное, приходится нелегко. С тех пор, как Михаила взяли под стражу, капитаном на корабле была она – Каниш помогал ей, конечно, но она была главной. Теперь, с возвращением Михаила, главным должен стать он. И не факт, что Карла захочет снять с себя полномочия. Может, отныне на их корабле будет не один капитан, а тандем, может, даже постоянно соперничающий.
Ну да, ну да, признать, что женщина может быть норм или, о боже мой, с ней договориться - это выше наших сил. Буэ.
В этот момент я отчетливо понял, что никогда больше ее не увижу. Я понял, что завтра, когда я приду в порт, их уже тут не окажется.
– Дженин… – сказал я. – Мне совсем нечего тебе подарить…
Но она прижала палец к моим губам.
– Нет, есть, – прошептала она.
Конечно же, она была права. Я наклонился к ней и поцеловал, а потом держал ее в своих объятиях, крепко держал, и она меня тоже, и я говорил ей все, что хотел сказать так давно, с тех самых пор, как впервые ее увидел.
Главная, блять, ценность от неблагодарного мудака, который все время ноет и говорит, что никогда ее не поймет и не будет с ней нарвне. Да. Конечно. Спасибо хоть не свадьба. Хотя на нее там намекали потом, что он ее еще найдет, когда вырастет.
Отвлекаясь от всего пиздеца - точно не надо делать не самого умного подростка всезнающим рассказчиком. Сильно мешает и разрушает достоверность.

Очень-очень-очень плохо. И перевод, и суть и идеи и сеттинг непродуманный ваще.
Кто-то мог бы обидеться отказу. Но я не из обидчивых, обычное «нет» меня не остановит. Оно в любой момент может превратиться в «да». Всего-то и нужно, что проявить немного упорства. Как заставить человека передумать? Не униматься. Взять хотя бы ребенка, который хочет мороженое, когда его родители говорят «нет». Он кричит, он плачет, он сучит ногами по земле, он задерживает дыхание до посинения. И возможно, все это окажется впустую. А возможно, он получит свой рожок мороженого.
Кроме того, больше никто не приглашал Дженин к себе в гости искупаться в полупустом водяном бассейне.

A light fantasy read for children. Something about the writing style makes you feel more detached from the events, particularly the start which has a lot of descriptions and explanations about the world but not much happening. Therefore it makes quite a good read if you want to let your imagination wonder but also relax. I liked how they did try and explain the logic behind elements of this world (kind of), although I couldn't quite get behind air-swimming (also known as sky-swimming)! I think perhaps part of that was because these worlds in the air are trying to be too similar to the sea environment and just copying bits into the sky. Especially when the names of things are sky-sharks, sky-buses, sky-fish, sky-jelly, sky-ferries, sky-boats, sky rats etc. Even if you didn't invent names for these things (which would require explaining when first introduced) I felt in reality the 'sky-' would get dropped by those who live there and you would just say shark or bus. 'sky-' becomes meaningless when there's no other sharks or buses left to compare to.
I found the men-of-war visiting the island the most interesting scene, but unfortunately this is at the start of the book and I was less interested in later events.

Sometimes it's really hard to tell if a book is self-published or not. This one claimed a publisher, and that publisher has a website with a submissions page, yet they use Amazon Digital Services to publish...
The story in this book seemed interesting enough. Set on a world with massive oceans and spread out islands, airships move goods between spots of land. They also "hunt clouds" to gather fresh water for the people on the islands.
The big, big problem with this book is that the author used semicolons interchangeably with commas. If it went through a publisher, if it had an editor, how was that issue not corrected? Multiple errors each page. Plus this book is $15 for ebook on Amazon, which is insane. The biggest name authors charge $15 for their ebooks... I stopped reading this one at 4%.

I don't usually choose to read books like this, but since it was on my shelf I decided to give it a go. For being my first book to get me out of my reading slump, it was a decent read! Packed with thrilling adventure tales and moments where I was on the edge of my seat, I'd say that this is a good read for children from 10-16. Despite the expeditions the Cloud Hunters go on, the story also incorporates a minimal amount of romance between the main character, Christien, and Jenine. This isn't mentioned enough to become a genre for the book, and it only really surfaces about 3 or 4 times throughout, but it does deem to be quite an adorable teen romance. I have yet to read the second book, but I'm hoping it will live up to the expectations of this one!

Le ambientazioni sono particolari, la scrittura invece mi ha lasciato un po' basito. Lo scrittore voleva dare l'idea che il libro fosse stato scritto da un ragazzino, però un conto é dare l'idea un altro é scrivere come un bambino (sono presenti più ripetizioni nella stessa pagina e la scrittura a tratti non mi sembra delle migliori). Peccato.

I bought this book in Poundland & at the time I knew nothing about the book or the author, but now I’m desperate for more of Alex Shearer’s work & I’m completely in love with this story. The world of The Cloud Hunters is magical, full of surprises & is just the right amount of dangerous. I loved this adventure & it’s characters, & am desperate to get my hands on the other book in this series.

L'universo in cui vive Christien è composto da milioni di isole che sono sospese sopra il sole, dove gli animali una volta acquatici ora nuotano nell'aria (balene, squali, meduse) e dove l'acqua è il bene più prezioso, perché scarso. Per questo esistono i Cacciatori di Nuvole, nomadi che vanno alla ricerca di nubi da cui aspirare l'acqua per poi rivenderla. Quando Jenine comincia a frequentare la scuola di Christien, lui si innamora di lei e del suo modo di vivere e fa di tutto per farsi invitare a bordo della sua nave, per vivere una grande avventura.
Mi sono piaciuti lo stile e la trama, in alcune parti è un po' lento, forse perché è il primo di una saga e quindi doveva introdurre questo universo al contrario... Spaventosa l'isola super bigotta di Quenant, con il segno del cappio!

* Perché preoccuparsi di un problema specifico, per quanto spiacevole, quando avremmo potuto averne tanti altri prima? Se cominci a preoccuparti di tutte le brutte cose che ti possono capitare, non riuscirai mai a goderti le cose belle che a volte accadono.
* "In che cosa credono i Cacciatori di Nuvole?" "Nella necessità di spostarsi in continuazione stando alla larga dai guai" rispose. "Conosci una filosofia migliore di questa?" "È stato proprio il vostro nomadismo a cacciarvi in questo guaio" osservai. "Be', mi sembra che neanche star fermi consenta di stare alla larga dai guai, non trovi, Christien? proseguì. "In fondo tu eri al sicuro a casa tua, ma questo non ti bastava..."
* A volte è meglio restare fuori dalle questioni familiari anche quando si tratta della propria famiglia. E in certi casi, specialmente quando si tratta della propria.
Mi sono piaciuti lo stile e la trama, in alcune parti è un po' lento, forse perché è il primo di una saga e quindi doveva introdurre questo universo al contrario... Spaventosa l'isola super bigotta di Quenant, con il segno del cappio!

I really enjoyed reading!
It's a children's book with adult ideas.
The world is great!
Come on, who haven't wished to be able to fly, actually fly, not on a plane, not in a dream? Yeah, no one. In the book it's swimming in the air, but who cares. It is! More than that I always liked an idea of flying fish. The author added flying dolphins, sharks, jellyfish and I was gone. Where can I buy a ticket to this world, I'd like to spend my vacation there.
So fantasy, right? But people, they are the same.
Good and bad, judging by appearance and looking deep inside others. This society we see doesn't differ a lot, so you wouldn't have any problem to imagine yourself living on one of the islands or even a boat.
Two main ideas are "is it so bad to be unlike others?" & "choosing your way in life".
We see everything through little boy's eyes. That's why reading is easy, you don't feel overwhelmed with too philosophic arguments, too much doubts, which would be expected for an adult hero, so you can think yourself instead of analysing hero's thoughts in the first place.
Talking about the plot.
You want something nice and easy to read with some ideas to think about? This book is for you!
