**FOR MATURE AUDIENCES ONLY**Starting over was never easy for anyone.I’d heard the stories over and over. But after the hell my ex-husband had put me through over the last year, over the last twenty years…well, I was ready to move on, repair what was left of my shattered heart and find someone to share my life with—someone who would put me first.I deserved it. I’d done my time being in her shadow, being a cheap understudy, always second. For. All. Those. Years. Never again. Our move to San Diego provided a fresh start, a new place away from all the hurt and memories. Life as a single mom to three teenagers had its' challenges, but we were adjusting and my kids were doing well. It was time to focus on my happiness, for once. I had a huge capacity to love and I wanted to share my love with a man that respected it, accepted it and gave it in return. It was just a matter of time before he found me and showed me what true, honest love was all about.
I’m a wife, a mom of three, a friend, an aunt, a sister, a daughter and a teacher. Now, I can add writer to my list! I’ve always wanted to write and finally found inspiration and support to do it. I live near Austin, Texas with my family and love to read and travel. Put me on a beach with a good book and the world just disappears around me. Paradise Taken was my first novel and is a highly emotional book based on true events. Its sequel (Saving Us) was released February 2014. I love that you are willing to take a chance on a new writer and promise to keep striving to put out great books! Be sure to check out my newest releases, including the London Brothers Series.
I'd love to chat with you, so look me up on any of my social pages. Happy Reading. :)
Honest Love by C.M. Hutton Series: Standalone/Spinoff Genre: Contemporary Romance Age Group: Adult Release Date: June 18th 2014 Length: 312 pages Format: Kindle Source: Gifted from Author for honest review Review Date: June 22nd 2014 Steam Rating: Scorcher (VERY STEAMY) Overall Rating: 4 STARS
Review: I am a huge fan of C.M. Hutton. Her previous two novels Paradise Taken and Saving Us were absolutely fabulous! They are based on a true story of an all-consuming love that tore two families apart. Honest Love is a spinoff of these novels focused on Claire, the ex-wife of the “hero” in the Paradise Taken series. Those two novels DO NOT have to be read to enjoy this one. However, I loved them so I would encourage you check them out anyway!
I knew I loved Claire even before I picked up the first page because she showed such strength after being betrayed so horribly by her husband of twenty years in Saving Us. This one starts out about a year after Saving Us leaves off, showing Claire trying to rebuild her life. She doesn’t need to work because her ex-husband guiltily provided a hefty settlement on her before he left but she chooses to so she can keep herself busy. She is very much still hurting over her divorce.
Claire works as a physical therapist helping people of all ages get over their injuries. Her kids left to spend the holidays with her ex so for the first time in forever she is completely alone. Deciding to keep busy so she doesn’t break down she picks up a hefty caseload, which includes Derek Landon. HOLY HOTNESS is he swoon worthy. Derek is an ex pro football player turned firefighter, with a hot bod, and a dirty mouth–YUMMY ;)
So Derek re-injured his leg at work and wants to get back to work ASAP. But he can’t until he gets the okay from guess who? Yep, his physical therapist :) When we first meet him he is downright moody, grouchy, and has a permanent scowl on his face. He has been hurt in the past and is still very much affected by that heartbreak–just like Claire. But these two grow close and bond over their similarities.
If I had any criticism it would be that I felt like Claire and Derek may have had a little “insta-love” going on. I didn’t immediately feel their connection, but after a little bit it BURNED the pages. Eventually their chemistry felt very natural and their passion for each other was beautiful. Love really does heal all wounds, at least it did for Claire and Derek.
I was absolutely thrilled to see Claire get the love she always deserved. She is no longer playing second and has the whole heart of an AMAZING, BEAUTIFUL MAN! Overall, I really enjoyed Honest Love and will definitely read anything C.M. Hutton releases in the future. Her writing is unique, beautiful, descriptive, powerful, and passionate. ♥
secondary epilogue: Jake and Kaye cheat on each other and find out. They finally feel the pain their affair caused from the other side. They live out the rest of their lives miserable and alone. The end.
First and foremost there were so many errors in the first few chapters I wondered if there were beta readers and an editor…. There were! ( like she mentions the kids names and on the next page the daughter is referred to by a different name…. Get new people on your team). Secondly I really did not like the H and h for the first portion of the book. It was obvious there were back stories from previous books but I doubt that would have helped. I found them both annoying and the “insta” love unbelievable. The second part of the book regarding the extended family was much more believable.
This tells the story of cheated on wife Claire from Paradise Taken and Saving Us. I’m sorry but I just couldn’t get past the first two books that let readers know what a complete doormat the h was. Yes she finally gets her HEA but it took way too many years.
Honest Love begins when Claire and her three children move to a new city to get away from the life they had. After twenty years Claire is now getting a divorce from her husband, and Claire is ready to finally have a love of someone who really cares. That's when she meets a man who seems to be a kindred spirit to her. He's gone through a few similar things that she has, and now these two can't stay away from each other. They progress into a very fast paced romance, but each of them seem to have a lot of doubts about everything. But they must be willing to fight past the hurt, in order to have their happily ever after.
This book was okay. I liked the story, and the writing was good. But I couldn't really connect with the characters. I felt like at first Claire was really great, and it felt like she was really willing to give her heart a chance to love again. But after seeing the way she started acting I felt like that was a load of crap. And then the hero wasn't all that great either. He made a few mistakes, but made up for them in the end. I was really happy with the way it ended though. So over all it was a nice read to pass the time with, but not much else.
This is part three of Claire's story ( although the other two don't need to be read first to read this one). This love story had me hooked from the very beginning. I was begging for Claire to have a happy ending and I was so hoping after the first meeting with Derek that he would be that for her. Claire is living a new city and adjusting to life after a divorce with her three kids and working hard to put the past behind her. She meets Derek and a small spark turns into a flame. I couldn't put this book down. I had to see what happened next and if they would get their happy ever after. I would get so mad at Claire for doubting herself and whether she deserved that kind of love and I loved how Derek acted like a 'creeper' and kept after her until she finally couldn't deny how she felt. Beautifully written. Loved every minute of their story.
Beautiful, honest, and AMAZING!!! Loved the emotional roller coaster and even enjoyed the public emotional ugly crying that was the last 20% of the book.
Thank you C.M. Hutton for sharing these wonderful characters with us. I so look forward to reading the backstory for Claire. Maybe that will change my feelings for some of the characters (doubt it) in this book but would love to learn more.
A little sappy at times, especially towards the end, but still a good read. It's a steal for the price Amazon is currently selling it at, which is nothing. It's FREE! Take advantage. You might enjoy it. I did.
Two people scarred by damaging marriages try to cope with their attraction to one another.
Claire is a physical therapist returning to work after her longtime husband throws her over for her for his college crush, who he's already gotten pregnant. She's trying to maintain a degree of calm and civility for the sake of her three children. She's unprepared for the feelings stirred in her by her latest client. Derek, a fireman, has suffered his own romantic heartache. His wife dumped him when an injury ended his career as a professional football player. This ex maintains a twisted power over him, so he's shocked when he finds himself contemplating making a play for his physical therapist.
I love that Hutton chose older protagonists with heavy back stories. Her characters' maturity and life experience add a lot of realism to the plot. Both Claire and Derek are easy to like. Hutton also does a good job keeping their interactions sharp through snappy dialog and a good use of setting. There's plenty of chemistry and the erotic scenes sizzle without going over the top.
There are sections where the characters' maturity works against Hutton. When Claire and Derek hit some bumps in their relationship, his sulky snits and her whining angst grates in a way that might not be the case if the characters were in their twenties. This "old enough to know better" factor is probably amplified by the fact that the plot gets a bit saggy in the middle. I got the sense that Hutton, having gotten off to a great start, wasn't quite sure how to ratchet up the conflict in a natural-seeming way, one that would keep the plot moving without resolving the relationship too soon. She finds her balance again towards the end, though I think she misses an opportunity there as well. Without giving too much away, Derek's ex makes an appearance that's meant to be a climactic moment, but, instead of letting Claire deal with her, Hutton has one of Derek's brothers take the lead. So the big confrontation fizzles out.
In spite of a little sag and sputter, HONEST LOVE has a lot to offer readers. This is largely thanks to Hutton's clever characterizations and her willingness to stretch the usual contemporary romance formula.
I loved C. M. Hutton's previous two stories Paradise Taken and Saving Us. This story is about the woman who was left behind. Claire, her children and how she copes with the fact that her husband has always been in love with another woman, who is also her best friend. Her husband Jack left her for his true love, who he has just had a baby with. Breaking up their 20 year relationship and devastating her and their 3 teenage children. She moves her family from Texas to San Diego to start over. Claire is a physical therapist and begins working with Derek,a smoking hot but grumpy fireman who has hurt his knee. They begin a relationship with some bumps along the way. I loved Claire's strength and resilience. She puts her children first even at times when she could make things worse between her ex and their children she looks out for their best interests before her own. I loved this story and recommend it to anyone who loves an honest love story! This book can be read as a stand alone and doesn't have to be read with the other two, but I highly encourage you to read those as well.
It is a great honor that I got the chance to read "Honest Love" and it's my favorite book ! I completely loved it , it's one of these books that you don't get bored while reading !! and I'm crazy in love with Derek that I actually cried because it was the end of the story! I BLAME YOU C.M HUTTON !! If you haven't read this one or having any doubts , TRUST ME and go for it , you won't regret it at all !.
Claire finally got her happily ever after, after everything kaye and jake had put her through she finally got it!
Derek was triple the man jake ever was he loved claires kids almost as much as he l0ved her ex football player firefighter and alpha male oh damn talk about hot!!!
i do hope that rob gets a happily ever after as well even after being a ahole he does deserve it he went through the ringer as well. loved this book more then the other two associated with it!!!
Honest Love is a stand alone but I read Paradise Taken and Saving Us beforehand so I feel that made the story even more meaningful. The story is filled with love, honesty, drama, and sincerity. I really enjoyed that nothing was drawn out and it certainly doesn't make you lose interest. Derek London is a name you will not soon forget! I strongly recommend everyone read this!
I am not sure why this book got such high ratings. it was repetative and had continuity issues. I ended up skimming the last 10% just to see if it ended the way I thought it would and it did. I guess I am just having an off week because I am royally striking out with books. Sorry folks. This one just fell flat.
Wow.. Claire is one strong female. She comes from a marriage that ended in such a way no one ever wants to face. She finds love in someone and wow is Derek London someone to love. Slightly stalkerish :) but hot and sweet.
One name… Derek London! Yeah I know but you soon will. But I’m going to start at the beginning. I’m not even sure how I found out about CM Hutton but I did. And I started this series at the beginning with Paradise Taken, and for me it did take a second to get over the cheating thing, not a book I would’ve normally read but something kept me involved in it. Then the ending happened and I was left there in tears with no more words on the page to read! And I’m serious totally an ugly cry of epic proportions! So I contacted her and we chatted over the who what and why’s of the story. I love when Authors will talk to you about their books. So fast forward to Saving Us –book 2 and wow, it was really great to see Jake & Kaye get their happily ever after.
Now the reason I’m saying all of this… In the background of all of these books wasexport_01 the wife of Jake, the woman that should be pissed and ready to get even, after all she was the one cheated on, her husband and best friend did the unthinkable to her. She had the proverbial knife in her back. But not Claire, she was determined to be an adult through it all, not become the b*itch that she very much had the right to be. She held her head high and did the only thing she knew to do and that was move forward. Teaching everyone that took notice that this was who she was, now don’t get me wrong she was mad and had her moments of weakness but all in all she kept her head up high. So in Honest Love that’s basically where we start, Claire and her kids are moving on with their life, they’ve moved to San Diego and Claire is working and moving on, when she meets a grumpy (not the exactly right word but it get the point across) but HOT guy. Well with a change in the plan she ends up spending more time with Derek than was her intention… I can tell you that Honest Love was just that, it was a story of Honest Love for Claire, it was for the first time someone loving her, for her and only her. Giving her what she needed, even though I’m not sure she got that in the first place. Then we have Derek and he is brooding, hot, aggravating and oh so right for Claire. But before any of this takes place Derek has his own demons to face. And has to figure out just what he wants. I think he knows its Claire but again those demons always pop up at the most inopportune times. Just when you think this story is taking a turn for the worst (you’ll know) I think it takes it’s best turn yet. Claire begins to figure out that she isn’t alone at all like I believe she sometimes feels. That she and hers can be loved and accepted but a family that isn’t even hers yet. I have to tell you I read a sh*t ton of books, but this one is different. And what I say by that is that it’s a grown up love story, I’m not saying that there isn’t drama because there is but its personal drama, there isn’t a lot of teen-angst drama I guess is what I’m saying. These books are adults going through adult situations and for the most part handling them like adults and that is one of my favorite things about them.
Thank you CM Hutton, now that I’ve read this one, I guess it my time to sit and wait to see what comes next.
Oh and I’ve included the cover picture as I normally do with all my posts but this on is straight off my tablet. I just wanted you to all see that the beauty of it transfers to the screen beautifully! PS Don’t lick the screen, you don’t get the same effect. But I’ll let you know about the paper back! Hahahaha
This is the first book I’ve read by C.M. Hutton although I’ve already bought the next book in the series, Life of a Fool. This is a standalone and I have not read her two previous novels Paradise Taken and Saving Us. They are based on a true story and Honest Love is a spinoff of these novels. They are not necessary to read before reading Honest Love. I’m sure I will one day read them because I fell in love with C.M. Hutton’s writing as I read this book. I couldn’t put it down and knew I would instantly be buying the next book in the series.
Claire is a newly divorced woman who is starting her life over in San Diego with her three teenage children. She has gone back to work as a physical therapist. Her kids leave for three weeks to spend Christmas break with their father in Texas, and she decides to give all the other therapists’ time with their families and takes on their patients so that she doesn’t have much time to think about being alone. She meets Derek London, her fellow co-worker Melissa’s brother, who is an ex pro football player who hurt his knee, and is now a totally hot firefighter.
Derek has re-injured his knee, and it’s not the first time either, while on the job and wants to get as much physical therapy in as he can so that he can get back out on the job. When they first meet his a total ass and Claire is ready to drop him as a client. Having his knee reinjured brings back the memories of when his wife left him after his career was over.
Melissa informs Claire of Derek’s life before and Derek of Claire’s heartbreaking story. Once they know more about each other’s situations they start to talk during his therapy sessions and bond over the similarities of their lives.
Honest Love is a beautiful love story that’s low on angst, but has enough drama to keep you engaged. Their love came fast but it felt natural. I love their chemistry and how they healed each other’s wounds that both their ex’s have left them with. I can’t wait to read all the books in the London Brother’s Series. I’m sure I’ll fall in love with each of Derek’s brothers just as I did Derek. I highly recommend you read this book.
OMG! It's no lie that I wanted Claire to get her own story after the first 2 books! I'm amazed by the storyline and the the man CM created just for her! ;) <3
This book is seriously sexy, amazing, intense, filled with jealousies, insecurities and is fabulous!
Claire moves away with her children to try to move on from the pain and hurt they all endured due to Jake and Kaye. She's happy with her new job until she meets a new client...
Derek has been hurt physically and mentally. He needs PT and when the new girl helps him... he's snippy, rude and interested.
These 2 together are amazing!!! Both have and their hearts broken but when a friendship blooms... they help one another.
Claire and Derek are sexy, sassy and electric!
You will fall in love with Derek! He's swoon worthy, sexy, possessive, and oh so delicious!! He's go it bad for Claire. Yes, you may get a bit frustrated with him a time or two but he's so amazing for Claire!!!
Claire oh my... You will feel for her and get why she's so smitten with Derek! She becomes sexy and sassy with Derek and I loved it!!
This book is everything you hoped Claire could get and then some!!!! The ending is fabulous and the bonus.....OMG!! I was busting up laughing! Hilarious!!
If you have read the first two books you don't want to miss this installment of Claire's HEA! It's sexy and steamy! You don't want to miss the sexy Derek and see why Claire is so smitten with him.
5 sexy robe stars from me! <3 muahahah :)
**Recv'd a copy of this book in exchange by the author for an honest review!!!**
Claire had been demoralized by her ex husband, left to start a new life with her 3 children. After 20 one would think one could trust their spouse, but not so. Oh I know this one too well, truly.
She only wanted to live her life. To be a good mom and provide for them. Her job provided this and she loved her job. Then she meets Derek, a man who had issues but who didn't? Now she was his therapist trying to help him stabilize his injury. What she didn't expect was the connection they had weaved.
Derek was a bitter man didn't trust any woman. But when he met Claire all bets were off.
They had a connection that surpassed all expectations and of course he was not going to give up.
I'm not going to go into details enough of that was already done, but I will say there were trials like none other.
There’s Paradise Taken (Paradise Taken #1) then Saving Us (Paradise Taken #2) and then there’s Honest Love which is a spinoff and its Claire’s story, one of the deeply wronged from the two books already mentioned.
Another reviewer encouraged potential readers to go back and read Paradise Taken and Saving Us first - no chance - fact or fiction I abhor cheating, I’ve witnessed it before but more recently within my own extended family, the effect so catastrophic it cost a life so forgive me if I don’t want to read about it nor have it glorified in any way in the name of love or truth or whatever.
Still…I’m glad I read Honest Love. I’m glad Claire found her man. The romance was a little quick but after the heartache Claire went through she got exactly what she deserved in Derek and then some. I was genuinely happy for her.
It is nice to see/read a book where the lead female is a 40 year old. This gives a whole new viewpoint to life. When your 20 something you have your ideas of future, love, and life in general that by the time you are 40 you have actually decided were ideals instead. Honest Love has Claire starting over. Not just by herself but with her three teen age children after her ex-husband ended up with her best friend. Yelp it is one of those tales. The real life type. It happens every day. The story line had me on the edge of my seat wanting to see just what will happen next. I could feel her pain, heartache, and relate to always putting everyone first and being last to every else. New beginnings can be scary but in the end......it will be worth it.
Beautifully written story!! This is 3rd in the series .. But can be read without reading the first 2, although I highly recommend them as well!! Honest Love follows Claire along her journey to finding her happily ever after after a major heartbreak! Her strength and love for her family is easy to admire!! We are introduced to Derek London very early in the book .. And thank goodness we are .. He WILL melt your heart and put a smile on your face !! This was the first book on my must read summer book list .. The only thing that disappointed me was when it ended! I wanted more Derek London :) I highly recommend this book!!
What a wonderful book. After Kaye's and Jake's point of views in the previous two books of this series, we finally get to read Claire's and Derek's story. Derek and Claire had me laughing and crying and cheering them on. For some finding love may come quickly and somtimes it may take years for the right person to come along. I was glad Derek and Claire fought to be together, even through their doubts and fears, it made them and their love stronger. So glad they got their HEA and I absolutely LOVED the bonus epilogue, Derek really has it in for that little item!! If you haven't read Paradise Taken and Saving Us yet, grab them and enjoy!
Claire is very much in need of a man to love her and put her first after the treatment she received from her ex-husband, who spent much of their twenty year marriage coveting another woman, before leaving for her. Claire has the biggest, kindest, most forgiving heart imaginable, putting the needs of others before her own but so wants someone to put her first. Enter the grumpy but hot injured firefighter, who ignites a fire in her. While I enjoyed this story, Derek's behaviour came across as obsessive and creepy at times, rather than romantic and loving. This was was sometimes difficult to reconcile but his behaviour comes from being treated so badly by his ex-wife.
The bones of the book are good. O found the characters likable and the dialog seemed real enough. My issues with it however were the author's tendency to flip flop tenses within a sentence often or use plurals in wrong places or not use them where they should be. Things like that pull me out of a story. I also felt the main characters moved really fast in the relationship. The main male character does some things at first that in the real world would be huge stop signs and had me wondering a little bit if I'd end up liking him or not. Those reasons are why I didn't gives it a higher rating.
