I saw this book on my shelf tonight, and it seemed like a quick read, so I burned through it 10 pages at a time.

The first 10 pages are brilliant.

The next 10 are great.

The last 20 are good.

Here’s why:

Ultimately, the story moves too fast. I love our protagonist. I love the mysterious boy she meets mid way.

But the story accelerates towards the conclusion so quickly, and developments from mid point forward devolve into tell rather than show.

Myers has brilliant ideas and endless potential as a writer.

I feel like he rushes himself through books, however.

The Dream Ward could have easily been 200 pages and deserved to be. I would have read every page with as much enjoyment as the 42 that were present.

That being said, it was still great fun to read!

A wonderful book about hate, death, surreal hopelessness & desperate love by the extremely talented Jon R. Meyers. Already in the book's first pages, I was really taken aback by the brutal tragedy and sadness that the main character, Katie, is creating. I was seriously touched only after two or three pages which I think is the proof of powerful writing. I adore Meyers style. It's clever, thoughtful and lined with beauty. I feel sorry for those suckers who didn't pre-ordered this limited edition piece of story art.

I’m late to the party... but received a proof copy of this limited numbered gem.
A dream-state mind flip that catches up to reality, only to turn back to the dreams, that seem much more pleasant than the opening eye.
Jon R. Meyers is a talented writer, and I think we all could use another walk into the mental hospital and the Dream Ward studies.
