A lifelong enthusiast of fantasy and myths, L.L. Gray blends humor and heart, inviting readers to escape into her spellbinding stories that feel like home—cozy, magical, and impossible to put down.
Best addition to Cam’s story yet! The hunt for the scroll is more fun than a Nicholas Cage movie, and the ending has the best fight scene I have ever read/seen. No spoilers, but I highly recommend leaving yourself plenty of time to read this one, because you won’t want to put it down!
Being an avid reader of many multi volume supernatural ltales, I truly appreciate how Gray helps us remember the characters in her continuing series with subtle reminders. Sloan bringing luck, Petunia and past grievances, Mama Atli with her incredible baking and quick reference to Ben, all tend to “catch us up” and help us get back in the groove of the story.
Gray has mastered another Cameron Blaze story, full of intrigue, adventure, world travel, mystery and humor. The story picks back up with Cam’s search for the Seal of Solomon which she needs to find before time runs out or she faces losing her magic because of a poorly made deal with the djinn Barqan. All our favorite characters show up in this tale, from her best friend Sloan the owner of the Forge bar, Magnus her supportive, werewolf boyfriend, Mama her baking witchy mentor and friend and a wonderful twist with her fire drake, Ember. There are puzzles, riddles, warded libraries, physical and mental challenges to master and wonderful dialogue filled with humor throughout.
Cam finds unexpected information and intrigue surrounding her mother; where she worked, her years of study, a beloved mentor and finds she was on a similar quest for the Scroll 20 years ahead of Cameron. Following her mother’s clues leads Cam on a bittersweet journey into her heritage and background. I love that this was a meaty book that didn’t wimp out with a few simple antidotes on her journey. It included quite a bit of interesting history about King Solomon and the history surrounding his accomplishments. This was a well researched and written book that I thoroughly enjoyed. I was lucky enough to receive an ARC in return for an honest review. I’ll be buying the book to support L.L. Gray as I want to continue reading her work well into the future.
This book was AWESOME. By now, I'm familiar with the author's signature hilarious and witty style. I mean, how could I complain with phrases like "goating around"? 😂
I enjoyed the story's Indiana Jones/Night at the Museum feels (the characters visit the Smithsonian and my all-time favorite museum, the British Museum). She even threw in some Dan Brown stuff with Freemasons! I have no idea how the author managed to fit so many things in one novel, but she did, including the sweetest animal companion. I love Ember, can I keep him? 🥹
The entire book was fast-paced, non-stop action, especially the last 25% with the FMC having an epic boss fight (multiple bosses) in a desert that felt like being in a video game, and a whopping cliffhanger ending!
I absolutely cannot wait for the next one.
Legacy and Lies is part of a paranormal/urban fantasy series that follows the adventures of the main character, Cameron Blaze. If you love stories about supernaturals in contemporary settings, I highly recommend it!
Thank you so much to the author for the chance to read and review this!
Legacy and Lies is book 6 in the Smoke and Shadow series and it is a heart stopper. I was on the edge of my seat. There is so much to unpack in this book I hardly know where to start without giving spoilers. Soooo first don’t accidentally make a bad deal with a djinn, next try not to die in your dreams. Next Go Ember so completely and utterly cool!!!! I have no words and I absolutely need to learn more.
Ummm next yes to super sexy werewolves and who doesn’t need a freaky powerful momma on your side in an epic mind battle of wills and power.
Just get it I mean who doesn’t love a superb world with epic characters and twists and turns that never end! Yes I 💯 % believe you will love this book (and series) and I highly recommend it.
Cameron Blaze meet National Treasure! What a great installment in the series. In Cameron’s ongoing search for the Scroll of Solomon she finds out she is following a trail left by her mother. Of course there are more mysteries to solve, lots of action and the search for more clues. Definitely reminded me of the National Treasure movies. All of her regular friends are involved as are new friends and enemies. Ember is an awesome fire drake with some surprises. And there are other surprises around. There is absolutely nothing to complain about with this book, may be the best so far. Book 7 is calling me
Mesmerising magical but terrifying trips with Cam and the ifrit who invaded her dreams after setting him free by accident whilst reading her mom's journal. I felt totally drawn into her world hunting for the scroll. Totally smitten with Ember, the sassy snarky fire drake. The bonding surprise was super exciting! Not letting the cat out of the bag on this. Then the new strange player showing up leaving many exciting things to come in the next book. This series truly rocks Liz. I received an advanced review copy and leave this review voluntary Thank you so much ❤️
Characters! Best friend leprechaun. Boyfriend werewolf. Sleepy, perceptive fire drake - what a pet! And Cam - a mix of magic and moxie whose favorite word is “improvise.” Along with them, djinn, ifrits, mages, deceased and unknown family offer deceptive support.
Plot! - how to search hidden libraries and experience terrifying trials, paranormal parasites and sphinx-like scripits. Challenge, tension, twists, time crunch, riddles and rampage.
Wow this book is fantastic the ending made me squeal I literally can’t recommend this book and this series any more highly get them now , I laughed a lot I was on the edge of my seat for most of it , Cam Sloane Magnus and brilliant Ember took me on a rollercoaster ride, glad to see Mama back a well deserved 5 stars ( wish I could have scored more )
A long read but lots happening. I thought I was doing a follow on from the movie National Treasure, so much happening so many twists. Then ending was not what I expected. As usual great characters, the usual ones are being more developed and wonderful world building. Bring on the next book.
