Again, such a sweet series of books, with more animal friends (or foes 👀). The illustrations are my favourite in the biz - so colourful and cute!

A fun new adventure with Kate! There is a jungle cruise, shrimps, a mysterious bird, a new friend, and oodles more!

I was so delighted when I saw that the newest book by Kate on the Case was coming out! Immediately got it when I could from Amazon and immediately read it when it arrived. I just had to know what was up next for Kate!

I loved that this one took place on a jungle cruise, last year I watched that Disney movie with the Rock and this book reminded me of that! Just maybe a little less action and more shrimps. Well, the action comes later. Haha. I would so love to go on a cruise like this! It sounds amazing. Competitions (and a dad doing awesome), beautiful scenery, parties, a rocking boat to lull you to sleep. Though please, just less shrimps. XD

I felt for Kate though, because while she is having fun on the cruise with her dad.. she is also not looking forward to the article she has to write. I mean, shrimps are fun and all, but there is a limit to that. Plus, Kate just wants something more adventurous and I was eager to see when she would find something mysterious. Something better! Something exciting! And as soon as something happens I had the feeling there was more to it all then just that. I followed along with Kate as she found hints, met a new friend, charted some charts, learned about birds. It was just tons of fun! The mystery of the Silver Wibbler? Perfection! I just loved how Kate wasn’t afraid to investigate even with a busy boat and an annoying leader of the Bird Brigade (you know, without that dude I would have loved to join).

Rupert, once again? I loved that little mouse. And once again, this is pretty rare for me! I am normally not a fan of talking animals, but Rupert is just so much fun and such a sweetheart. Still confused a bit on which animals can talk and why some can and others can’t, hopefully we find out more in the next books.

Bertie… it took me a while to get used to the little guy. He was just a bit much. In many aspects. But I think he just needed a bit of a boost of confidence, because as the story continued I saw another Bertie and this one I liked!

The last part + the ending of the book? One rollercoaster of awesomeness! We learn of the Silver Wibbler. About the guy who wrote the book. About something else, and there is an exciting chase and some trickery! Plus, we find out some things and I was just punching the air because I was right. Haha.

The illustrations were once again fab and this time the main colour was green! I cannot wait to see what colour is next for Kate, blue? Pink? Purple? I Just love it when books like this have one main colour!

So as you can see, I had oodles and oodles of fun reading this one, I flew right through it! I would highly recommend this one to all!

Kate and her dad are on a trip on a cruise, her dad to enter the competition and Kate to write an article on Shrimp and the women who makes it. Bored of the case she is given she seeks out another and finds one unexpectedly. The bird brigade had one outcast child seeking the silver wobbler, his leader says it doesn’t exist. When Kate finds a book all about an explores findings of said bird she, Rupert her mouse friend and Bertie the out cast bird brigader start exploring to seek the bird.

This was okay but I didn’t sink into it the story easily like I thought I would. It felt kind of slowly written and was rather strange for me. Though it was creatively made with the pages having pictures and the odd writing, or a fact profile all of which were great creative additions. I just didn’t find I got into the story nor did I find that I liked any of the characters.

The mystery was unusual with it being about a rare unseen bird, and being set on the cruise with some very odd people. It all came across easy and not really leaving a lot to be solved as it went by, which is okay as young children can’t always solve mysteries and would be finding this book really funny.

For me personally I didn’t really enjoy it, it was very creatively made, and had lots of places where I’m sure others would find humorous. The storyline was interesting and I’m still happy that I gave it a read, it just isn’t one that I overall enjoyed.

The first sequel in this young-reading adventure series is pretty much on a par with the first – there's little to it beyond a certain exuberance and wackiness. Kate has come to the attention of the special correspondent heroine she's long adored, but as a first writing assignment she seems to be stuck on a paddle steamer on some nameless jungle river, writing about shrimps and fishing competitions. Lo and behold, however, when what are found but clues that the world's most rare and sought-after bird, a bird many birders find so secretive they've doubted its existence, might just be within their grasp? And therefore the grasp of all on board?

Again the richness of the story comes from the bonkers setting and the fact it's flab-free, although we still should have more of Kate's personality to make us care. David Tazzyman-styled illustrations show the wacky world of this series, but also how less-than-original it all can seem. Still, the tightness of the drama and the switcheroos going on did make me feel like giving it three and a half stars – until the unsavoury ending, at least. Still, that in itself is going to earn this five stars from its target audience, so I shall just say the series is much better suited for the very young-minded, and part ways here.

This is the second in the series of Kate on the Case books but works fine as a stand-alone. It’s fin, eclectic and a delight for readers. I cannot wait to read the first book in the series soon.
The thing I love the most about this books is the fact that the aesthetics is so appealing to struggling and reluctant readers who often find pages full of text daunting. The mixture of text, comic-like presentation, jottings, doodles and fabulous drawings really make this book so much more accessible, less intimidating and just a whole load of fun to read. It was equal fun exploring these things as it was reading the story.
The characters and setting of this book is so eccentric but works really well together. Kate has her first writing assignment reviewing food on board a steamboat when there is a possibility to track a rare and elusive bird instead. Bonkers? Certainly! Witty and brilliant? Definitely!
Kate is surrounded by colourful characters during this delightful investigation, and it is just pure joy to read.
This is a perfect book for readers aged 5+ to share or for readers a little older to read by themselves.
