Sophie drowned as a child. She died for three minutes. Her childhood trauma is real.
Yet Sophie Smart, hot-shot advertising executive, isn't a child anymore. Now Sophie's most important client, handsome Matthew Silver, is insisting she learn how to swim. She can't blame him really - he's the owner of a chain of swimming centers, and Sophie's in charge of his new advertising campaign.
The last thing Sophie wants to do is get in the water, in a clingy swimsuit, with a client she’s trying to impress. She's not going to win him over flapping around like an idiot, is she?
But with a broken heart from her last relationship, maybe getting into the pool is just what Sophie needs? Maybe Sophie can trust Matthew with her fears. Maybe she can let go. Maybe it's time for Sophie to forget about her past and take the plunge?
Feel-good romance writer Alicia M. Kaye believes in the power of fairy tales and the love of handsome princes. We all know they’re out there.
For over a decade she worked for three out of the Big Four accounting firms, before embarking on a career change to follow her true passion: writing.
Alicia is a strong supporter of the arts and in particular loves books, music, and theatre. She studied Creative Industries at the Queensland University of Technology and as a travel writer has had several pieces featured in major national newspapers.
Her first novel, Skinny Dipping, was a second place winner in the Amazon Breakthrough Awards.
Alicia was born in Australia but has lived in London since 2005, where she takes long walks with her husband and daughter, and secretly feeds the neighbour’s cat.
This one has a big chick-lit/ Bridget Jones vibe. The heroine Sophie has a big fear of swimming because she almost drowned when she was younger. Her client, Matthew, the hunky millionaire who owns a swimming club wants to teach her to swim. Sophie jumps in the deep end, so to speak, as she deals with many sudden upheavals in her life such as her long term boyfriend dumping her because she's too career driven and won't cook for him. Plus her job many get slashed, and her father is depressed because he lost his job and wants her to keep it a secret from Sophie's mother.
Sophie and Matthew have a big attraction going on but he's her client and things must stay professional between them. But Matthew is crossing some lines and wants more from Sophie. She questions his feelings since he still can't get over the death of his beloved girlfriend who also drowned (Sophie and Matthew almost have sex and he blurts out Rebecca's name during the act. Ouch for Sophie).
Skinny Dipping has some cute moments and did keep me entertained to a point. Matthew is a lovely guy, more beta than alpha. His chemistry with Sophie is believable, but things falter toward the end. Sophie's story with her possible cheating ex-boyfriend is never really out to rest, and even after Matthew calls out his deceased girlfriend's name while intimate with Sophie, she is willing to believe he loves her, and she feels the same. They never discuss how hurt she was over saying the wrong name during sex, which rubbed me the wrong way. I wanted more closure regarding that and how Matthew really does love Sophie. I just couldn't get behind his sudden, "I love you" to Sophie. It felt too rushed and canned.
Skinny Dipping was an okay read with some delightful moments, but more fluffy than deep. The HEA leaves me wanting more also.
Funny, heartfelt and brave I read this book in the tub quite some time ago, and laughed the whole time. Well, when I wasn't feeling sorry for Sophie. As you can tell from the blurb, Sophie has a couple of problems. It is very hard for her to trust men, due to her broken heart. And Matthew Silver won't give her the contract for his new advertising campaign unless she learns to swim. Well, that is to be expected I suppose if she is going to be advertising swim centers, right? What I really liked about the book is how Sophie handles her fears. She is scared, literally to death, of the water, and for good reason. But with Matthew's help, can she learn to overcome her fears? I know what Sophie feels like, and I felt for her the whole books. Growing up in "the old days" the accepted method for a child to learn to swim was to just throw them off the dock into the deep end. Hey, sink or swim, right? Of course, my problem was that not only didn't I know how to swim, I had 600 vision (Yep. Blind as a bat) and I couldn't see the shoreline! Needless to say, I didn't get into the water for a long, long time after that! This is a sweet little novel about facing your fears and how it changes your life. If you are up for a cozy little novel with a heroine who finds her center and proves herself, this is a book for you. And besides, it is Free Today! at Amazon!
Sophie Smart is an advertising executive. She loves her job but it may have cost her a boyfriend. Sophie dives into new accounts. She wants to make sure each client gets their money's worth and much more. Just when it seems her career is taking off, life hits. Matthew Silver is still grieving over his fiance`. It's been a long process and he believes he's ready to jump back into life. Being the Director of Highbury Aquatic Centre, he is kept busy trying to bring more memberships to the Centre. The question is, will he require help?
This marvelous book is one you have to read! The writing is amazing and the characters so real you feel you can touch them. I enjoyed the way Ms. Kaye made Sophie both an executive and somewhat unsure. It really is a fun book. I absolutely can't wait to read more of Ms. Kaye's work. This is one you'll re-read many times.
I found one issue. I felt "the moment" statement at the end of Chapter 23 should have happened earlier in the book. The ending seemed rushed because of it.
I gave this one 5 cheers out of 5 because it's a real pick-me-up kind of book. ~Copy of book provided by author in exchange for a fair review~
Contemporary office romance with a recently single PR lady with one of her clients. This was never sleazy because Sophie Smart takes everything in her life slowly (except her passionate job) which includes her new client, Matthew Silver with his chain of swimming centers that she is designing the PR and commercials. Matt takes dating really slowly as he only ever dated one lovely lady that died almost two years previously. Sophie and Matt have nice fun friends that get them through the story with dignity and healing because they are both deeply lost and looking for a new life when they meet each other. This was a fun fluff read with some tough healing old traumas themes around the romance of Sophie. 320 pages and kindle freebie 3 stars
Good book to throw in your bag to take on vacation or take to the beach. Likeable characters, pretty good plot line, laugh-out-loud dialogue. You don't need to "concentrate" to understand what's happening, a notepad to keep track of too many complicated characters . . . it is simply a fun, past-paced story you won't need to invest too much of your time in. I already told my sister to download to her Kindle!
Good read. Always loved swimming, especially skinny dipping. Looking forward to the next "Skinny" book. I don't know what else to say, this review requires a specific number of words to post, so I will chat on until it lets me.
For much of this book, I really enjoyed it. I wanted something light, steamy, 'no-brainer' ith cute, precocious characters in it. I got this in the beginning but at the end I wanted steamier ... more detail as well as some sort of revenge on the ex partner, Derek.
A great summer read i really enjoyed this book but it was predicable HEA ending which is nice and its a stand alone book which i liked read it in 2 days a quick easy to follow story it deserves the 5 stars i rated it
This was a good stand alone read. i enjoyed it. Matthew and Sophie worked well as a couple and i liked the supporting characters to. it was a light romantic read. Nice break from my usual reads. i think people would enjoy reading this. I'd recommend it
I found a free copy on SmashWords; this is my honest review. -I didn't LOL but it was a good read. Though I was a bit concerned about the "hot, sexy, great body" theme going around, like it was all Sophie thought Matthew was. What about smart, funny, caring, leveled, etc.? -Matthew and Sophie make a great couple. Matthew flirts to put Sophie at ease in any situation. Sophie needs to grow up. She doesn't return phone calls or emails. She thinks they are not personal, not thinking that perhaps Matthew is just giving her space (again). She perceives wrong when there's nothing askew. It was getting old at the end. -This book was easily a 5 stars until Matthew called Sophie "Rebecca" and then she ran (again). So what he called her Rebecca? My husband and I called each other's ex's name for 3 months - because we were used to say that name not because we still had a thing for them. Wake up! -After those few stupidities in between, they finally get together and the end was pretty good. -Closed door sex if someone wants to know. -Editing needs another pass: missing letters/words, she'd almost slept with but in fact did, etc.
I came across this book by random and I'm so very glad of it.
The other reviews will tell you an expanded version of the blurb but I prefer to review the story.
It was a really good enjoyable read. Easy pace, Great characters, good "bones". It is a typical chick-lit romcom but once it's good there isn't anything wrong with that.
Sophie, despite her issues, is a good strong character with oddities that you may recognise. She's funny and supported by wonderful mad-cap friends.
Matthew, a billionaire with his own problems is likeable, relatable and I'd imagine dreamy on the lines of Chris Evans (Captain America not ginger English dude).
Their relationship both professional and personal take a few hits and happiness. There are some skip-along parts of the story that probably got cut by editing but should've stayed especially in regards to Rebecca but it's fiction. If you want deep and meaningful go elsewhere. Overall It's a very enjoyable read and recommended. Although the characters appear in other books, each book is a standalone with no cliffhangers.

This book has been on my kindle for a little while and although it was a nice read, it was nothing too special.
Sophie drowned and died for a few minutes as a child and has never been in the water since, even a bath is too much for her. She currently has a client who owns a swimming pool chain along with a string of hotels, however he is not very good at responding to her emails. Eventually she tracks him down, but when he finds out that she cannot even swim, he makes a bargain. She learns to swim and he will be more available.
Having also just broken up with her boyfriend due to being a work-a-holic, Sophie has also had to move out, and makes a new friend in Carol.
To be honest it was just ok, but did nothing for me. I really didn't feel the chemistry between Sophie and Matthew and the ending was just blah. When the pair finally did get together at the end, even the moving in together seemed to happen at rapid speed.
It's an ok read a guess, but certainly not one i will revisit.
Sophie had a near death(water) experience as a child, and has a fear of water. Now grown and successful (advertising executive) she doesn't think about her past , until she meets a client Matthew, he owns swimming centers. Soon they become friends, and he insists she learn to swim. There are definitely sparks between the too, but she has the fear of water, and scars from a past relationship. She will have to put all this aside in order to move forward in her personal life.
A fun original story with a great plot, laugh out loud moments, as well as romance. Sophie, is very likable flaws an all. She has definitely has personal issues that haunt her. Matthew is likable as well and watching their friendship bloom was exciting. I highly recommend Skinny Dipping to those who love a great read.
I really enjoyed this book. The premise was great, and the writing was effortless. Funny dialogue and hilarious scenarios combined with brilliant characters and colourful sub-plots made this a great read. Wish it hadn't ended so soon!!
This was a fun, straight forward romance. Easy to follow story, relatable characters and a happy ending. A simple read. There are more books within this series but I'm not certain I'll continue on with them. I suppose I need a little more intrigue.
A little cutthroat colleague wise. I liked the relationship between dolphin and mermaid. Two characters I hope karma bites em in the ass. I liked the character growth, especially the father.
I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review. I loved this romantic comedy by Alicia M. Kaye. The story and characters were hilarious and I had to stop reading multiple times just so I could breath after laughing so much. I definitely recommend this to anyone who wants a great read.
I received this book for free and voluntarily reviewed. I really liked the story between Sophie and Matthew. It was cute without being overly sappy. I also enjoyed the secondary characters in the story, especially Carol! Will be reading more titles from this author for sure!
Ok, so I finished reading this book a couple of hours ago and I still can't put my finger on why it didn't find it a great read. Storyline is that Sophie, works for an advertising agency and loves her job! But she gets dumped, and loses her home. But in the plus side she lands an account with Matthew Silver and his chains of businesses... But he has a pool and Sophie is afraid of water after drowning as a child. Cue falling in love with other but skirting round the truth. An ok read but it didn't draw me in and it took a while to finish.
A quick, fun and free read. Not a lot of substance and in need of more editing. Sophie's real life trauma seemed overplayed and overdone. (I am not negating the effects such an event may have - merely the way it was presented, stated, restated and told again! I never felt that she was overly traumatized). Glad this one was a freebie.
What a waste of my hours, I'll never get them back. The sad thing is that this book could have easily been a 4star read. There a times having your work proof read, or having an editor is essential. This was one of them.
2.5 stars. I didn't hate it, there were even parts I really liked. But I was annoyed with Sophie pretty quickly and her attitude toward situations made me want to stop reading. But it wasn't a complete waste of time.
