This author turned this read into a "pleasure" in more ways than one. It definitely shows the true talent of a author when they can cross genre and write something different still captivating the reader. This author certainly has done that for me. Being I have read several of her books in the paranormal genre but that not being the only thing I enjoy reading I turned the pages hoping for a delightful change and was not disappointed. Right off I am introduced to Kenton and Aimee in the office, she working for him. He has a dilemma-he needs to welcome a couple to his firm as new clients but current girlfriend not so current anymore. Knowing the importance she agrees but not as his date but he strikes up a bargain with her. What he doesn't know is she hasn't done this sort of thing for never since her ex's incarceration. Not something a person really likes to reminded of either being once married to a man who tried to kill her either or would want to talk about much. So it does not take this author long to entrap me with this story it is my cup of coffee hoping it will be oh so good to the last drop. Ah the pleasures of life to be carried away with a good cuppa and a novel that carries you away like this one is. Excellent building of a relationship between these two, very personable characters that they are with slips of humor in just the right places. Oh and the heat that is inserted in this relationship is done with alot of class that fits right with these two. The love and care Kenton shows Aimee is above standard. It is especially got me when he goes about protecting her from the crazy ex who is on the loose too. Nothing quicker after a woman's heart is a man who knows how to take care of a woman the right way such as Kenton does. No longer are these two just boss and employee either which is fine by me. Oh the thrilling excitement that is contained in these pages of the confrontation between them all was also above par. By the time I am finished with this I am one happy camper and this is the beginning of what is going to be a wonderful series. Received a arc for a honest review.

I know Ms. Lia is known for her paranormal romance but it was nice to see her change it up a bit. I really loved reading this book, and I loved how when it came to Aimee Kenton is relentless, "do you have other plans? I'm sorry, I didn't think. Of course you have something else planned. I'll just reschedule the dinner." He's a fiercely protective guy, "the bast*** would pay for this. "Sweetheart, don't move and don't argue with me. Please?" I loved how these two are just so natural with each other, even during the most serious of times:
"I still have to go to the bathroom," she reminded him.
He released her waist and guided her to the bathroom. "I'll be right here if you need me." Laughing at the thought of him walking in while she was doing her business, she pushed him playfully and shut herself inside the bathroom.
Aimee that girl may seem like the submissive type, but the girl has a bossy side to her, "her command sent a jolt of need through him, making him more than happy to comply. "A little demanding today. You will have to be patient for one more minute. I have to get a condom." I hope to see more books from this series, it was really nice change to see Lia write a non-paranormal book.

It is unusual for me but the first thing I wrote for this review was my final thoughts because that is what kept swirling around in my head. So feel free to take a peek at that and then come back for the rest of the review.

On with my review because I know there was one or two of you that just had to read the Final Thoughts first, Aimee Monroe and Kenton McDonnell are the type of people I would love to have in my life. They are both warm people that have suffered loss and tragedy but have refused to let it get the better of them. True Aimee has closed herself off from relationships since her marriage went bad but there is not a person that could blame her for that. Kenton has also been hit with loss but his is more unique because his relationship ended because his girlfriend saw how he looked at Aimee, his personal assistant, with longing but never acted on it.

Once he has been released from this relationship he recognizes that it is now his opportunity to act on his feelings for Aimee and how he goes about it still makes me smile. I love that he took a bad situation and turned it into a positive and an opportunity to get to know Aimee in a social setting with another married couple, which took away some of the scary part of a 1st date for Aimee.

One of the reasons I really enjoy Ms. Davis’ writing is I can feel the amount of research that she spent to create her worlds and characters. The way in which she portrayed Aimee as a strong woman even when she had been physically and emotionally assaulted by her ex-husband really rang with truth. As someone that has been on the receiving end of an act of physical violence, in my case, a mugging with a knife, I understand the emotion and gut wrenching things that go through your head after you are safe. Aimee was as true to life as she could be and for that Ms. Davis gets a resounding Thank You. There is nothing that irritates me more in the genre when physical violence against a woman is swept under the rug or discounted as not important. Unfortunately for those of us that are survivors, we live with the fall out every moment and every day and try to search for the happiness we all deserve.

Ok off the soap box and back to the story, Kenton and Aimee’s story shows great skill and I was charmed and delighted when these two amazing characters spent time together and grew their relationship. Wow did they really work on that relationship like they both meant it. Especially with the length of this story, the amount of time that they were together just makes my heart happy.

Final Thoughts this book has everything you want for a summer beach or pool side read. Amazing story, charming characters that are easily to fall in love with and can be read in a couple of hours. And the over arching story and carefully crafted plot makes this a prime book for me to recommend for a wonderful lazy afternoon. Go buy this book ASAP. And I look forward to the next addition in this series soon, Ms. Davis!

This book was amazing I got a copy to write a honest review I got to tell you I'm glad I got the book it was amazing. I laugh cried and felt hot which is the perfect book to me I read a lot and there are some books you get tired and you just want to skip chapters not this one I read it in hour and a half I couldn't put it down.

I say I love Aimee she is a survivor of domestic violence I've had family who has been in her situation and it is tough to get through and she did. She became an independent women she was with her husband since high school they were high school sweethearts. Being married at seventeen to me is to young and I've been with my husband since high school it's been 15 years and I'm only 28. But thank god Aimee got away from her husband it sucks the way she got away from him it actually had me crying I felt so bad for her. I love that her sister Grace has been there every step of the way I relate to that because my sisters would be there too. She worked for her boss Kenton for 5 years and thought he was a good looking man also sweet and compassionate she seen it while he was with his girlfriend Julia but when Julia leaves him by text message things change.

Kenton is a lawyer strong sexy and always had his eyes on Aimee even though he was with Julia. Their relationship hasn't been good for a while now so when she does break up with him he's not surprised. The first thing he thinks about after that is Aimee he's been drawn into her since she started working for him. So when he has to go to a meeting with his friends and Julia was suppose to go with him like a double date since he didn't have a date what was the best way to get to spend time with Aimee get her to go with him.

The adventure starts there you thought I was going to tell you more no way but I will tell you that you have to get it because it is so good. It also speaks about what happens in domestic violence relationships if you don't get out sooner it's sad to know this happens everyday. So again get this book.

***Received from Fated Desires Publishing for an honest review***

I like that this short story was built around the oldest workplace fantasy: a relationship between a boss and his assistant. What I liked even more was that the assistant, not the boss, is the damaged person. That slight twist promised there would be some suspense as the boss tried to figure out his lady love’s past.

Aimee’s past wasn’t pretty. It was shadowed by a reality that’s all too real for many women today: abuse. But she wasn’t broken, she wasn’t shattered. She was strong because of it. Her timidity and fragility at the beginning of the story were smokescreens for the incredible woman just waiting to break free and shine.

She just needed the right person to help her get there. Kenton was that person.

He didn’t know her past, knew very little of her present, but he knew he wanted her. When the window of opportunity opened, he stepped in and gently began the process that would make her his.

I have to say that my favorite scene was when Kenton found Aimee after she’d been beaten by her ex-husband. No, I don’t delight in the misery of others. But I loved this scene the most because Ms. Davis wrote it out like it should be. It was after Kenton and Aimee’s night together. That afterglow that still surrounded Kenton fragmented into thousands of pieces when he found her. The shock and anger he felt just radiated from my tablet.

Ms. Davis did a great job filling this story with romance and suspense. It might be short but it’s not lacking on detail, and it’s a great beginning to her new series.

The first novella in the contemporary romance Pleasures of the Heart series is a thrilling and action packed read. Kenton has wanted Aimee since the day she walked in to interview. Wanting a new start, not a big mistake, Aimee never considered dating her boss, then a business dinner with a client turns into an incredible night. But then her fresh start turns into a nightmare when she returns home to find her abusive ex-husband waiting for her.

This fast paced and smooth flowing plot keeps readers on their toes with suspense, action, drama and romance. The author uses well written words and details to inspire vivid images that make it easy to picture each event as it happens. The strong compelling characters are easily related to and grab the reader’s attention from the very beginning.

The attraction between Aimee and Kenton radiates heat from every page and the sex scenes are hot and steamy while the romance progresses at a slower sweet pace while Kenton tries to win Aimee’s trust. The reader can’t help but get emotionally caught up in the horror of Aimee’s past and they can’t help but fall in love with the sweet alpha male who takes care of her.

This short story manages to pack a lot of tension building suspense, emotional punch, red hot passion, drama and sweet heartwarming romance all in a little package that I was totally captivated by from the very beginning and I can’t wait to read the next one.

What's your pleasure?

Cool start to a new contemporary romance series! Come meet the lawyers and staff at Barnes, McDonnell & Nelson. This story has strong characters and an awesome heroine who knows how to take care of herself. There is suspense and lots of hot scenes. And now a bit about the story...

Where better to turn when you are starting your life over than a lawyer's office. Aimee started over again 5 years ago. She hired in Barnes, McDonnell & Nelson as Kenton McDonnell's assistant. Kenton had found her attractive from day one, but he was dating Julie then. Now it is a different story... she just broke up with him after 5 years in a text message. Now Aimee and Kenton have a chance to get to know each other much better. Just when she starts living her life again, her past escapes to threaten her happiness again! Give this book a try and fight alongside Aimee for her happy ever after!

Favorite passages:
- "Shush. That's what I admire most about you. You're honest and don't sugarcoat things."
- "I've hid from the world for far too long. I need to learn to live."

Although on the shorter side this book had a ton of sexy in it. Lia is known for her paranormal stories and wow can she write contemporary romance too. I enjoyed the characters especially Aimee, she goes through hell with her ex husband who in prison and she's a hard working, beautiful women who would love to take a chance with her boss. Kenton is sexy as hell, powerful, successful and did I say sexy as hell oh and dominant. A relationship he was in just ended and he's fine with it because he has his sights on Aimee. These two are hot as hell together, their sex scenes are scorching hot and a definite page turner. Kenton is definitely the man to keep Aimee safe and happy. Very fast paced story and very much recommended. ...4 stars ...Review by Nanee at upallnightreadallday.blogspot.com 4

I liked it! It was a short, sweet romance between two people who were meant to be together with a touch of suspense added in. Yes, I knew how it would end, but the way the author gets us there is definitely worth the ride.

Well written and lots of intrigue especially regarding Aimee’s ex.i love when an author writes about a woman who has become stronger due to a horrid past relationship and Lia definitely did just that with Aimee. Wish we had a bit more of an epilogue at the end of their story, but otherwise it was a quick and hard to put down read.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

After reading Business Pleasures by Lia Davis, I find myself with mixed feelings. There were certainly parts of the story that I really enjoyed but just as many things that I didn’t.
Aimee Monroe has always been attracted to her boss, but he was dating someone else and besides, she never thought she had a chance. But suddenly Kenton McDonnell is single and needs a date for a dinner with a business client/friend. After an amazing night, the two embark on a relationship. However, Aimee’s abusive ex-husband won’t go away and becomes a danger to Aimee.

Aimee and Kenton are wonderful characters. They are likeable and believable and I wanted them to get their happy ending. Aimee had survived a brutal marriage but she didn’t let the abuse define her. She showed strength and determination in forging a new life. However, that kind of abuse does have a lasting effect and in Aimee’s case it resulted in insecurities that made her even more sympathetic.

Kenton was as close to perfect as you could want. He encouraged Aimee and reassured her when needed. He was gentle with Aimee and never pushed her beyond what she could handle. I loved how protective and caring he was of her.

What I didn’t like was the predictability of Business Pleasures. I didn’t find myself surprised by anything that happened and this detracted from what should have been a dramatic storyline. I also found the story to be rushed. While it is a novella coming in at just under 70 pages, I would still expect a more organic flow to the story rather than the quick pace Business Pleasures followed.

I also felt that the relationship between Aimee and Kenton became serious in an extraordinary small amount of time. Yes they did know each other through work, but Kenton had just ended a relationship and Aimee hadn’t been in any relationship since her marriage had ended.

Despite these problems, I still find myself leaning toward recommending Business Pleasures. It’s a quick read for a hot summer afternoon while you’re waiting for your tea to get cold.

Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian I Dig Good Books.

**audio review**

I've only READ one of Lia Davis books, and it was a short and swett little vampire novella. This is another short and sweet book, 68 pages, prob about an hour reading time, but I'm reviewing the audio version which is just under 2 hours.

Aimee has been recovering from an abusive marriage, ex is in jail and she is fianlly finding herself again. Her boss, Kenton, invites her on a business dinner, now that he is free to persue Aimee as he has wished to for 5 years. But Aimee's ex gets parolled and returns to finish what he started all those years ago.

Deliciously short, but it packs a punch, quite literally. I cringed at some points, physically feeling what happened to Aimee at points, but equally cheered when it was needed. You get all of Aimme's feelings and Kenton's too, told in the third person. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

I've not listened to many female narrators, I have a hearing issue that is specific to speech tones, so a male voice is easier for me to hear. HOWEVER, Naomi Hoffman narrates this tale beautifully. She is clear and concise in her words, but still, the feel of the book comes across with every word. Her character's voices are different and easily distinguishable from each other.

I will certainly be looking out for more books written by Lia and narrated by Naomi.

4 stars for the book and 4 for the narration.

Aimee Monroe is just starting to venture our of her self imposed personal romantic isolation after her boss, Kenton McDonnell asks her to join him for a dinner meeting as his date. A date that turns into a night of unforgettable passion followed by terror when her abusive ex-husband is waiting for her when she returns home. Will she survive her ex this time or will she die before she has a chance to explore a future with Kenton?

I asked to review this book because I enjoyed Lia Davis' Ashwood Falls series so much. "Business Pleasures" was a pleasurable read, but need to be expanded a bit more. There were times when I had to go back because I was sure I must have missed something. This was a slight problem with the flow of the story not the content. The second half of the story was very well done and I loved the ending. I will definitely be looking to read the next story in this series. As the first in a series this one was a great start.

Business Pleasures is a quick, naughty read that will draw you in right from the start.

The story is short but action packed. It's almost as if the author, Lia Davis, is just teasing with a taster - leaving the reader hungry for more.

Kenton McDonnell is Aimee Monroe's employer. Kenton has always had a soft spot for Aimee. When the opportunity arises Kenton requests Aimee's attendance to dinner with a business colleague and his wife.

A simple dinner turns into a night of passion. But the next morning Aimee's dark past comes back to haunt her...and harm her.

Kenton shows his protective side and vows to help Aimee deal with her past.

Filled with suspense, angst, lust and romance this quick read, while easy to read will definitely leave you hanging for more...and I will be next in life for what Ms Davis has in store!!!

Aimee Monroe meets her boss. Never had she considered dating him, however, when the handsome, business lawyer, Kenton McDonnell, ask her to a dinner date with a new client and his wife, she finds it hard to say no.

This is a very good short story about a woman who had been in a violent relationship and her fear of falling in love again as she feels she can never trust another man (especially as her ex husband had been incarcerated for attempting to murder her!!)

This is a good story which has just the right amount of suspense in at as her husband escapes/ has been released from jail and is not happy that Aimee has started to move on with her life.

This is a really good book, quite the page turner, which had me reading constantly till the very last page, to see if they managed to get the outcome they deserved.

I would highly recommend this book.

This one is short but definitely very sexy and sweet with some action and suspense thrown in. It was a complete story so I wasn't left wanting at the end.

I adored Kenton. He is so kind and caring! I love how protective of Aimee he is. He's trying to help heal her in a way teaching her that giving up control isn't about fear. Its about trusting the person.

Aimee is also a very strong woman. I like how she wants to fight back and take control of her own life. Not let her ex rule her for the rest of her life after what he did.

Aimee and Kenton are a great couple. It's a great story and start to a new series.

Just okay...at least it was short. The narrator did a decent job, but everyone under the sun telling Aimee that they "just knew" she and HER BOSS would make a fantastic couple (she'd worked for him for 5 years, and he had just gotten out of a semi-serious relationship that day) was a bit over the top. I suppose it doesn't really qualify as insta-love, since they did know each other 5 years, but it still felt like it.

The ex-husband plotline was a bit problematic, but okay--a lawyer asking another lawyer if Aimee'd get off for killing him, though? Red flags all over the place.

I really enjoyed this story, it’s a quick read and a great start to a new series. Both Aimee and Kenton are great characters, and Aimee’s ex adds a nice level of suspense and tension to the story.

I highly recommend this story, it has tension, conflict, lots of romance and left me feeling their love.

A nice contemporary romance, different from Lia Davis' usual paranormal offerings. I quite enjoyed reading as Aimee and Kenton fought for their HEA. My only wish would have been that this were a full-length novel rather than just a novella.
