Book Review: Games of Two Halves by Unwankor

If there’s one thing Unwankor doesn’t joke with, it’s writing male characters that carry confidence like agbada, they always have this Undeniable unwavering confidence- "Games of Two Halves" is proof.
Tell me why Yinka went from "who is this guy?" to "Nonso’s woman" overnight—just like that! But no wahala, I actually enjoyed it. 😌

Nonso and Yinka’s story is premium gist- one I hope I can discuss with my friends. Their journey from strangers to heartbeats is sweet to read, and the way their personalities balance each other is everything. When one is hot, the other is cool—so no unnecessary drama, Just vibes.

Beyond the romance, I deeply appreciated the portrayal of sibling bond in the book, The way Nonso and his siblings held each other down despite their parents' situation? That’s how family should be. No one should let wahala from parents scatter sibling love.

Now, on to Kane—see ehn, may God protect us from friends that want to frustrate our destiny. That character tested my patience,He was just stress from start to finish. And as for Yinka’s boss? That one needed someone to give him his size. Nonso should have just handled him once and for all 😤

And lastly,Yinka’s mom, that woman is a proper African mother, no doubt. Her scenes had me shaking my head and laughing.

At the end of the day, "Games of Two Halves" is that book that will hold you, shake you, and keep you turning pages. The mix of romance, family, and football drama. If you love African fiction that feels real, This is that book

Game of Two Halves is a refreshing and creative sports-themed story. Storyteller extraordinaire, Unoma Nwankwor, transports her readers into the world of England’s professional soccer league through the eyes of the hero, Nonso Chijuka, a star midfielder for the Viva City Football Club of northern London. The locales in this story are THE best! The heroine, Nonso’s soulmate, is Yinka Martins, a top-notched financial advisor, who is called “Specs” by Nonso. I’ll allow you to discover why. Being at the top of his game is proving to be a drag, financially for Nonso. He seeks help and advice from people whom he trusts, and this proves to be a very important piece of the storyline. I love Yinka’s character who also has some family issues, along with a tragic backstory, to work through.
The side characters are present to render advice, along with those who always have their hands out. It’s an eclectic bunch. I loved the other secondary characters from previous stories who appear in this story. You’ll recognize them when you read the book.
Yinka and Nonso’s adventure together has its ups and downs. I invite you to take this journey with them and let the African culture, love, family drama, and spicy flavor take you away. You want be sorry, fans! I highly recommend this story!

Fantastic Read!

Where do I even begin?

This book was great from start to finish! As always with Mrs. Nwankwor, the plot is solid, the characters are well developed and the supporting cast will have you rooting for them too 😊!

In this book we meet Nonso and Yinka. You will be immersed into the football world (soccer for the Americans) due to Nonso's career and the struggles professional athletes have with finances due to Yinka's job. But make no mistake the chemistry between these two is sooooo good! You'll be chuckling, screaming for joy and might shed a tear or two as you travel their journey. And I promise you, you won't regret it!!!!!

Plus if you've read any of the author's other works there are lots of loving recurrences of previous characters. It was wonderful seeing them ❤.

In a nutshell IF YOU READ ONE BOOK THIS SUMMER LET IT BE THIS ONE !!!!

So much to love about Nonso and Olayinka. Nonso had me laughing out loud constantly. He would have made a terrific comedian. What I like most is how he claimed her as his without any details about her. Followed up by telling her to tell her boyfriend he was done, and is now an ex. These two kept me in stitching as they worked out the challenges of being a couple. Regrettably there were a few obstacles. He pursued her with earnest and with much respect. I just knew he would be a playboy and running thru women left and right. Nonso said he don’t have to chase. There were multilevel stories happening in Nonso’s life. I didn’t care for his childhood friend, Kane. Nonso was a smart player and fairly responsible young man, but chose to hang onto Kane. Kane needed to set out like month old trash. The perfectly characterized Yinka, an obsessive planner. While friends and family saw it as a flaw, I didn’t personally see any harm in her desire to be intentional. The novel held my attention and I finished in about 24- hours. It’s was one of those novels that you don’t want to put down. I should have been in bed, but I wanted to know what Nonso’s next play would be to try to win Yinka’s heart.

Nonso and Yinka are my number one couple of the year to date. As a football fan, I enjoyed learning about football/soccer as it is played in other countries. The media and fans remain the same, with you when you are winning or giving back to the community, but they turn on you at the first sign of trouble or a loss.
Nonso and Yinka were both deeply troubled due to their past. Together they were stronger, each other's sounding board, best friends, and counselor.

Both mothers and a few of the siblings needed to get a life; read Game Of Two Halves to find out why. A must read for the summer.

excellent

This is my first time reading a book by this author. If you are looking for a clean romance novel but book bae is still a little edgy and sexy, this is it!!!!!! I was completely in love with Nonso and Yinka. I really loved how intense he was about her. This was really cute, sexy story to me but clean and respectful to their relationship to God. This was a good read. Give it a try!

I really enjoyed the story of Yinka and Nonso. I specifically spent 2 days reading this book I wanted to take my time reading and understanding the character of Nonso and Yinka. Nonso needed to let go of the past and Yinka to move forward with their relationship. I was glad they crossed paths because believe or not they actually needed each other to overcome the past.

Ever since I was introduced to Unoma Nwankwor I can't stop reading her books every time I finished a series from her, I seem to find my way back to another series. I'm hoping to read more of her books in the future.

Good read!

I loved Nonso and Yinka’s story. Unoma characters are so realistic and remind you of someone in your life. I love how, from the beginning, they were themselves and built a friendship.

A sweet Christian romance. Both Yinka and Nonso had issues to overcome before each could become whole as individuals. Although it was a sweet story, the sparks between the couple were brilliant.

I have never read any of UN books and feel displeased. Never! I don't even have a favorite of all her books because each stories are unique and every single time she releases a book, she always outdid herself.

UN is an amazing author whose books I always look forward to reading! I picked up Games of two halves and I wasn't disappointed. I was wowwwwwedddd!

Pleaseeee, how on earth did Kane enter Nonso's life back after the rubbish he did in the prologue???

To the storyyyy, UN can writeeeee🥳🥳. Ladies and gentlemen, I was screaming when Yinks and Nonso first met. It was funny, sweet and niceee. It's so good to see Cheta again .I love the bromance between Xan and Nonso

I love the relationship between Dumebi and his siblings. It's so sweet to see their interactions. I really can't wait to see Dumebi and Jace more if there's going to be a book about them.

Game of two halves blew my mind, I was like osheyyyyyy!!! The lines were so smooth maybe I could borrow some to blew somebody's mind😂😂😂

But then can we talk about the chemistry between specs and Nonso, it's so sweet to read about. UN book men are always confident Sha. I love Nonso's growth from the prologue to the end of the book, it was progressive and very relatable.
