Bob Jobe, an Air Force fighter pilot, is a hero to his son. He is a devoted husband and a loving father who has survived the dangers of war. However, during a routine stateside training flight, Bob disappears in February 1969.
The U.S. Air Force deployed its latest fighter bomber, the General Dynamics F-111, to Vietnam several months ago. Despite the aircraft's advanced technology, it is facing some challenges and controversies. Bob Jobe and other Air Force pilots have been selected to strengthen the team for future deployments to Southeast Asia.
Michael, Bob's son, is nearly eight years old when his father disappears, and he regards him as his "Superman" after he returns safely home from his previous Vietnam tour of duty. But on a cold February evening, Michael's world is turned upside down when the squadron commander and base chaplain visit to inform them that Bob and his instructor pilot are missing. His mother, five-month-old sister, and Michael now need a miracle.
Now in his mid-twenties, Michael begins a journey of investigation, facing setbacks and experiencing miracles to discover what happened to his father and where he died. "Finding Dad," is an inspirational story that relates the power of faith, love, and perseverance in the face of loss. It will give hope to anyone who has experienced the pain of losing a loved one.
A whirlwind of emotion and a treasure trove of aviation history!
I found myself completely immersed in this book as I followed along with the author on his journey to find answers about his dad. This is a very personal and touching true story and even though I have men in my family in the military, none were in the Air Force. I found the history of the different aircraft and deployments fascinating and appreciated Mr. Jobe breaking down the acronyms so I could understand all that he referred to. Not all military books do this. Additionally, you can sense how blessed and aware he is of how his faith plays such a critical role in his life..., especially in meeting specific people, the direction of his career, and overcoming the many trials and challenges on his path to answers. I highly recommend this book for a compelling read.
