Plagued is the true story of a fake apocalypse. On one terrifying night in post-tsunami Thailand, all signs point to the inevitable end of Ryan Estrada's life, if not the world. A harrowing tale of locusts, frogs and hitler cats.
“Plagued: The True Story of a Fake Apocalypse” has an incredible concept — a real-life investigation into how a single hoax about a local plague spiraled out of control and could have fooled people. Ryan Estrada tells the story with the same energy and curiosity that make his other projects so engaging. That said, the book sometimes struggles to maintain its focus. I also found myself wanting more depth about the people involved — the “why” behind their actions — rather than just the wild chain of events. Still, it’s an intriguing and timely read about the dangers of vague misinformation and the ease with which false stories could take on a life of their own. Worth reading, but I didn’t find it quite as cohesive or satisfying as the premise promised.
