Rate this book
Return to the land of Ooo with this super-sized edition collecting some of Fionna and Cake's most memorable adventures together in one complete collection for the first time!  In Adventure Time with Fionna & Cake, our titular heroes save a mysterious Flame Prince from the insidious clutches of the Ice Queen, rescue Prince Gumball from the insidious clutches of an enchanted flan, and recover a magical artifact from the insidious clutches of a suddenly handsome Lumpy Space Prince. That's a whole lot of insidiousness! Good thing Fionna and Cake are ready for anything! (Well, er, except maybe a handsome Lumpy Space Prince . . .)  In Adventure Time with Fionna & Card Wars, Cake finds herself up against her greatest opponent the Floop Master! After Lumpy Space Prince has to bow out of a Card Wars tournament with a broken wrist, Cake decides to enter in his place. She's determined to prove she's the best player out there—even if it means skipping out on hang time with her best friend! Can Fionna and Cake survive the separation? And just what the floop's with this Floop Master, anyway?!  And finally, complete your Fionna and Cake collection with a trio of short stories covering everything from stolen sweaters to Lady Lemongrab herself!  Collects Adventure Time with Fionna & Cake #1–6 from acclaimed writer/artist Natasha Allegri (Bee and PuppyCat), Adventure Time with Fionna & Card Wars #1–6 from award-wining NYT bestselling author Jen Wang (The Prince and the Dressmaker) and illustrated by Britt Wilson (Ghost Queen) and more, and featuring shorts from creators N.D. Fast-paced adventures featuring battles with the Ice Queen, an epic Card Wars tournament, and mini-quests.

This volume compiles Adventure Time with Fionna & Cake #1-6 (Natasha Allegri, Betty Liang), Adventure Time with Fionna & Cake: Card Wars #1-6 (Jen Wang, Britt Wilson), and a variety of short comics (ND Stevenson, Lucy Knisley, Kate Leth).

Hilarious, adorable, action-packed, and fun. A nice variety of stories and art styles. Great for fans of Fionna and Cake. This was such an entertaining collection!

Really cute and with a similar sense of humor to the Adventure Time Cartoon Series. I liked that the characters aren't always a literal 1:1 gender bend of the regular versions and have their own personality/background (Flame Prince and Ice Queen are both different from their regular counterparts). It all felt creative and original.

I also enjoyed how the first story played with a sort of tragic fairytale, using some of the darker themes the show used particularly in the later seasons.

I don't particularly like the Fionna and Cake characters, but after the very cool max series I thought I should give this a try.

The first half was okay, but the second half was very disappointing. I wish the whole book had been like Cake's beautiful volcano story, which was, sadly, only a few pages.

'Adventure Time: The Fionna and Cake Compendium Vol. 1' (I don't think there's a volume 2... yet) contains the first 'Fionna and Cake' comic by Natasha Allegri, and their 'Card Wars' comic by Jen Wang. Then the bonus short stories from the first comic by N.D. Stevenson, Lucy Knisley, and Kate Leth.

It's all very cute and funny, and the 'Card Wars' story, with Cake the cat playing for a Card Wars tournament against snails and a mysterious Floop Master, contains good twists and surprises. And there's a Swordcery Fair in it. There's a subtle anti-sexism theme, not too much like easy and "acceptable!" subtext, that's definitely there, and it's great to see in a kids' cartoony comic.

Feminism and fun do go together!

Case and point: the entirety of the 'Adventure Time' franchise.

Colourful, clever, wacky, thoughtful, heartfelt, entertaining girl power stuff, that's part of the 'Adventure Time' made-with-love distaff parody universe! I'm sure loving these characters as much as their creators do!

I like it! It’s very nice and the drawing is so lovely. I enjoyed every single page. The fire story was so great and I enjoyed it more than the card wars story. The card wars story was good too but I like the fire story more lol. The bonus story wasn’t bad, it was good and silly. I feel like I like gender-swapping characters more than before, especially Fionna and Cake.
