A hopeless crush…

Back in high school, Allie McBride thought the sun set around Sam Fratto’s smiles, even if they were only friends. Now she’s older, wiser, hotter, and teaching at the same school they grew up in. When Sam joins the faculty, she has a chance to make good on the crush that got away. But when a dead body turns up on school grounds, they realize there might be a murderer in their midst. The heat keeps getting hotter between Allie and Sam, but more might be in danger than their hearts…

The cute kid from high school is all grown up…

A family crisis brings true-crime writer Sam Fratto back to town after more than a decade’s absence. Teaching at his alma mater seems like a good way to pass the time—especially when he sees that Allie, the geeky, sweet-mannered girl from high school, has blossomed into the saucy teacher in the classroom next door. Too bad finding a dead body transforms his return into one of his true-crime books come to life. And when it seems the killer might be after Allie next, it’s up to him to keep her safe…

A killer determined to keep the past buried at any price…

As if dealing with the return of one ghost from her past wasn’t enough, it looks like the killer might be the person they least suspected. Someone from the past. Someone with something to hide. Someone who thinks Allie and Sam are getting a little too close to the truth. If Allie and Sam are going to get out of this alive, these two friends to lovers will have to work together…or die together…

4 Stars if this is book is the beginning of a series, 3 Stars if it isn't...

You Again is a review that I struggle to write, not because I have nothing to say, but because what I have to say and my opinions of the book are vastly different for the above factors.

If this book is not the beginning of a series (and I have looked for information on GR, and the authors website to see if it is) and is just a standalone novel then for me it fell in the average pile, I love a good romantic suspense novel and You Again fell a little short on that front for me. I have put my reasoning for this below –

• There are so many characters floating through this book, that by the end of it I didn’t really feel I really knew any of them, including Sam and Allie any better than I did at the beginning. Mr Williams (the dead body mentioned in the synopsis, is the only one who I felt had actually had any character development as the story progressed).

• There isn’t a huge amount of romance to be had either if I am honest.

• The whole Meredith situation was all a bit “you-what-now!” as well for me... It also required further development, or Allie and Sam to actually confront her about her past actions.

• The story has all-sorts of drama added into it as it progresses and it’s mainly from the secondary characters, Claire and the elusive Rick (no explanation as to why he is that way, just intimated that he is a little shifty and possessive). Allie’s Family and their religious preferences (again, I personally do not feel this added anything to the story). Laney and the drama with her husband (also wasn’t really resolved by the end of the book, and didn’t really offer anything to the actual point of the story).

• The big one for me was Sam’s mother, because although her involvement in the story was pivotal, the medical condition she was given was not. And what really disappoints me is that as a reader you are not given any indication or closure on it either way, rather than just being left hanging at the end of the book, I really wanted to know how everything turned out; if this is a standalone an epilogue would have helped.

The mystery aspect of the story was quite well done, I had my suspicions as to who it was pretty much from the discovery of the body, but if the story is good that never usually bothers me. I think the reason it was a bit of an issue this time is because of the factors listed above, and the fact that the body of the story got lost in all of the extra drama that the author was adding to try and justify all of the other characters presence in the book...

That said, if this is the start of a series then a lot of the points above are Moot, as I would happily class them as great little teasers and character introductions for future books.

As I said this was a difficult book to review, and although I wasn’t blown away by You Again, I liked Ashlee Mallory’s writing style, and would happily read her future releases (especially if they are a continuation of this book with other characters involved).

You Again is a debut novel from Ashlee Mallory, and well, this one turn to be a good read for a debut writer. I see that the cover (and the line) can be sooo misleading. You know, there was shirtless man on the cover, it promise some steamy sex scene, or at last steamy sexual tension. I warn you, and this is a little bit spoilery, the sex scene was fade to black scene, and the romance part actually not the main focus of You Again. If you are a romance reader, you might be a little disappointed. But if you search for a good mistery, I think that Ms Mallory already did a good job.

You Again has a small town setting, so anyone know anyone. It also has a "school sweetheart" theme, even both MCs, Allie McBride and Sam Fratto are both divorced, also have child. But this part never bugged me. The story is mainly about Allie and Sam investigate their English's teacher murder. Mr Williams. While they also deal with their condition, where Sam was hated by Allie's family because of sensitive theme on his book), also Allie that have too much self doubt and problem with her family. The mystery and the thrill thicken when someone target Allie, because they didn't want her to find the truth behind Mr Williams's murder.

I admit, I don't understand why some reviewers think that this book is part of series, because You Again is simply, standalone. I will surprised if Ms Mallory will write next part of Sam and Allie's story, because I think all plot and mystery are wrapped nicely in the end. The romance is not the best part, even I will say it's not bad written. I enjoy how with all drama that surround them (a disagree family, an annoying love rival, a sad past),romance between Allie and Sam is not rushed. And yeah, I don't mind with fade to black scene, even I had stated earlier in my review that the cover is not suitable for You Again. Maybe the publisher can use less sexy cover, and I really don't mind!! Cover is just a bonus. It's the blurb that make me request You Again in the first place.

Mystery and thriller, both are factors that make me enjoy You Again. The mystery surround Mr William's murder actually is simple, but still manage to make me curious. And well, if you pay attention, you can guess who the killer is. But, this is when Ms Mallory add some nice twist, for what the killer did to Allie (and Mr Williams) is beyond sickening. And creepy! This is a kind of killer that I gleefully enjoy (and no. I'm not psycho), because it add excitement when you are reading this kind of novel.

If you are in the mood to read thriller and mystery novel, with both MCs just ordinary people, not lawmen or agent for sort (even Sam is a crime writer), and doesn't mind with lack of steamy scenes, you would love to read You Again.

3 stars I think for this one...

This cover promised me sexiness! LOTS of hot steamy sexiness!! unfortunately, it doesn't happen.
the "sex scene" consists of him carrying her off to bed, I turn the page, & it's the next morning...

I was also a little disappointed no-one seemed to use the title line "you again". it would have fitted in quite well in the first few instances of the main characters meeting, and I really expected it to show up here somewhere. maybe that's just me & my fussy brain lol

other than me not thinking the cover fits the book, it was a little too predictable. every time it's mentioned that he thinks it's unsafe for her to be doing "x", BAM! something happens.
as the "clues" start joining up to tell us what really happened to their former teacher it all begins becoming painfully obvious what happened & we continue reading waiting for the book to catch up to where we're at in this "investigation".

I find it unlikely that these two teachers would be able to solve an old murder long before the police appear to have done anything worthwhile in regards to the case. maybe that's just me, but it just felt odd to me that the police were barely there...

maybe a little more character development could have also helped here. both main character's were very hot & cold, with very sudden switches between extreme opposite moods.

definitely not the worst book I've ever encountered, but there are much better reads out there...

You Again is the first book by author Ashlee Mallory that I have read and from start to finish I really enjoyed this suspenseful romance!

English teacher Allie McBride cannot believe he’s back. Sam Fratto. The one and only huge crush she had devoted her entire high school career to pining over from afar. He was smart, handsome and a star soccer player back then and everything a girl wants in those teen years. Of course now, he was just as desirable. Still handsome and even more sexy. And also a bestselling true crime author. SO it was a little bit shocking that he was here, back in their small hometown, offering to take up some of the English classes from a recently retired colleague at her school. As if Sam being back wasn’t emotionally jostling enough, a body has been found on the school grounds. The body of their beloved high school English teacher who had gone missing 14 years earlier. Allie soon finds herself working with Sam on trying to solve the mystery of what happened to Mr. Williams and also finds herself working on trying to squelch the attraction she thought had died out so many years ago….

Sam knew the beautiful blond looked familiar but he just couldn’t place her. Now being back at his old school and seeing she was on the faculty here with him, he figured out who she was. The shy, fresh-faced sweet underclassmen he had fond memories of working on the school paper with back in the day. She had turned into quite a stunning woman now and he couldn’t stop thinking about her. Determined to give a memorial to Mr. Williams, he offers to help her along the way and try to find out the truth of what happened to one of his favorite teachers. Will he also find more than an old friendship with Allie along the way?
The mystery surrounding the death of one of the kindest and well respected teachers in their alma matter will not only bring many suspects and scandals to life but will bring two people closer than they ever had imagined.

The suspense in this murder mystery had me guessing from the very beginning. The subtle hints that author Mallory dropped throughout were really well done and all came together in beautifully in the end. All the thoughts I had were validated when the pieces of the puzzle started fitting together. The story was well thought out and had more to it than just a murder. There was plenty of deceit, cover-ups and even infidelity, all leading to a “whoa” ending. The relationship between Allie and Sam built beautifully and believably along the way… something I really appreciate in a romantic suspense.

All in all, this was a very entertaining and suspenseful story with a juicy plot and unexpectedly devious characters. I enjoyed it from start to finish and will be putting author Mallory on my list of authors to watch for!

Overall rating: 3.5 Rockin' Stars!

"Sam still looked stoic and slender, but broader shoulders and the confidence of a grown man who had moved past the doubts and self-consciousness of youth. Unfortunately, he still looked just as temptingly touchable as she'd always found him."

"Allie could smell Sam's dusky male scent mixed with grass and a little clean sweat. Crap. Even sweat smelled good on him."

"Strange, the affect she was having on him. Unexpected. And a bit unsettling. She was a fellow teacher, a coworker. He had strict rules about mixing work with his private life."

"Her heart was full to bursting and she gazed at the man who, in the short time he'd been back in town, had always been there for her when she needed him."

"Well, Allie McBride, you were definitely worth the wait."

As for how stories go, this one was very sweet. An unrequited love, thought to be lost years ago in high school. Allie McBride finally has a chance to be with the one person she has always fantasized about, Sam Fratto. New York Times Best Selling Crime Author, Sam Fratto, has come back to town for a while to take care of his dying mother. Remembering the sweet girl from school, he falls for her beautiful spirit and strong willed personality. Allie is an English teacher at the high school they both attended years earlier. The story revolves around the monumental mystery caused by a body found at the school. Allie and Sam set out to solve the mystery, at first on their own, but are drawn to the passion they bring out in each other. Allie's involvement in a memorial for the deceased causes her to be thrown in the crossfire of the real killer. Together they solve the crime and finally come together in a happily ever after ending. Great read! ...Grēta

What can I say besides I absolutely loved this book? This was such a fun and rather exciting storyline. It had a past crush of Allie McBride’s coming back on campus where she now teaches. He being Sam Fratto, the ex-jock, school newspaper reporter and school heart breaker. Now a New York Times best-selling author.
Being he was coming home to be there for his mom who has stage 3 breast cancer he just found out about. He decided to provide his services to his old school since they were in need of a teacher for a quarter.
His first night back in town he has a run in at the airport with a woman with an out of control child whom she can’t manage. They have a few words. She had recognized him as she would since she crushed over him for two whole years but he had no clue who she was. So, imagine their surprise when Monday rolls around and Allie’s asked to the principal’s office to meet the new relief for the extra classes she had taken on from the shorted teacher, and there sat, you guessed it, Sam Fratto. Yet, not as shocked as he was.
To say he felt the chill was an understatement. Allie was asked to turn over the lesson plans to the other teacher’s class to Sam which she was okay with. Once dismissed she speed walks to her class, the whole time he is checking out her a--, to get him the folder. He knew she was trying to ditch him and thought it was funny. While she was looking he apologizes. Then, all hell breaks loose. The construction noise that you could hear stops and then you hear silence and then a lot of people talking in loud whispers.
The construction on the peace garden stopped and then there were cop cars everywhere. When they went down to investigate they were told a body had been unearthed, everyone gasped. Awhile later, they were told that it was one of their own, a teacher that use to teach there, “Mr. Williams.” It was now a murder investigation…
You will get you HEA you are looking for. I can tell you that but this is a good murder mystery too but with humor and romance. There is some sadness and disappointment too. I give it 5 stars. Provided by netgalley.com.

You Again (Entangled Ignite)

4.5 Stars!!!

LOVE-loved the mystery in this book! I read the story in an entire setting. (sorry family for neglecting you) This was not your typical Romance Book and not at all what I expected. Refreshing.

Allie and Sam knew each other from high school and Allie had a crush on Sam that lasted a decade. Sam comes back to town to take care of his ill mom and begins working at the school that Allie teaches English at. Sam comes home with plenty of negative feelings towards love yet, when he sees Allie he feels a connection with her instantly. Allie’s crush on Sam is still alive and well. When a body is found and Allie begins being threatened can Sam put behind his past feelings about love to become her future? You will have to read and see.

I really liked the flow of this book. Ms. Mallory’s descriptive writing made me feel as though I was a fly on the wall experiencing all that Sam and Allie were going through. I loved Allie and how she was very trusting and able to tell Sam exactly how it was. She was strong and I like a strong Female Heroine. The story has laughter, angst, love and plenty of sexual tension that your ready to yell “Get it on already!” Way to get my emotions going. The secondary characters are great in supporting the story line. I loved the Grandma Molly and hated Ethel. When the murder mystery begins to unfold I was very anxious until the book was done. I had to take a deep breath at the end not realizing that I was breathing so shallow. I had a hard time guessing the murder until very close to the end and that is a tough thing to accomplish… Well Done!

The only reason I gave 4.5 stars instead of 5 is I would have liked to read an epilogue maybe seeing into the future of Sam and Allie a little more. This book is a stand-alone and has a HEA.

Thank you for taking me on a roller coaster ride, Ms. Mallory. I will be recommending this book and looking for more of your work in the future.

Don't let the classification or cover of the book fool you, this book is anything but a typical romance novel. When I started reading this book, I was like oh, it's going be second chance romance kind of story. Granted, there is a second chance romance, but the murder mystery going on will not let you put this book down. This book was so captivating and engaging I read the whole thing in 1 day.

Back in high school, Allie McBride had a huge crush on Sam Fratto, the gorgeous, smart and popular jock. A little more than a decade later Allie is a teacher at her old high school and who should join the staff temporarily, if you guessed Sam, then yes.

Sam the famous crime author, had to come back to town for a family emergency and the cute blond he sees at the airport happens to be his co-worker and classroom neighbor. Sam likes what he sees, he likes the kinda of woman Allie has grown up to be.

When a body is found on school grounds and Allie starts opening doors to the past, the killer realizes it's only a matter of time before the truth comes to light. The killer decides there's only one way to deal with the nosy teacher and the crime writer.

As their investigation continues, not only do Sam and Allie get closer to the truth, these old friends become a lot more and Sam will do everything he can to protect Allie.

The story was well written, the plot was engaging and the twist will leave your jaw hanging wide open. What I didn't really like about the book was that Sam doesn't share his feelings with Allie until the end of the book. I hope Ms. Mallory writes a follow-up, I can totally see Sam and Allie as the Booth and Bones (Bones TV show reference) of their town. Get yourself a copy when it's published, you'll enjoy the story a lot.

When Allie’s high school crush comes back into her life and ends up working at the school with her, her world is turned is upside down. She can’t believe Sam is back and looking better than ever. How is she going to be able to function around him? He was everything to her back then and he didn't even know she existed.
Sam has come back to his old high school to fill in for a teacher who has retired. He is also back to help take care if his sick mother. What he doesn't expect to find is a girl from his past all grown up. Allie is sassy, spunky and sexy as hell.
The school has just begun construction on a peace garden when workers find a body. The person is identified as a former teacher and Allie is spearheading an effort to create a memorial for him. However, when she starts digging through old videos, someone tries to kill her. As Allie and Sam try to find out who would want her dead and why, their chemistry is heating up.
If you are looking for a second chance love story with some suspense and funny banter mixed in, this is the story for you. I couldn't help but root for Sam and Allie to be together. I mean, who hasn't dreamed of a second chance with the hunk from high school? As for the suspense, I have to admit, I did not suspect the person responsible for everything until right before it was revealed. And let’s just say that I was holding my breath for Allie to be ok.
The story was well written and I thought the development of the characters was just right. I would love to have story about Allie’s sister, Laney and hopefully a HEA for her. I highly recommend that you add this book to your TBR list today!!

I really enjoyed this book and found myself caught up in not just the murder mystery, but also in the relationship that was growing between Allie and Sam. Although there wasn’t a lot of steamy scenes between Allie & Sam, the tension between the two that was caused by not only the history between them but also the murder mystery they found themselves wrapped up in made the wait worthwhile.

Allie’s family added an interesting dynamic to the story as well. They were an interesting bunch to say the least – right down to the four different types of Jell-O molds they served at family gatherings! I absolutely loved Allie’s eighty two year old grandmother Molly, she cracked me up every time she opened her mouth…especially when she spotted Sam for the first time…
“Now that’s something I’d like to tap,” the copper-haired eighty-two year old seated at her right murmured with a leer…”What?”…”Hey, I’m old, not dead, and he’s got a booty I haven’t seen the likes of since Herbert Volkman took me ballroom dancing back in ’94…”

It was fun watching Sam’s protective alpha side come out when Allie finds herself threatened, and then watching the tension escalate between the two of them as they both try to deny and resist the attraction simmering between them.

All in all, this was a good read that was heavier on the suspense than on the romance, but thoroughly enjoyable.

Ashlee Mallory has written a delightful cozy mystery. When Allie McBride sees her old high school crush, she doesn't realize that her life will be turned upside down. Sam Fratto has returned to Salt Lake City to care for his mother who is seriously ill. He takes a temporary teaching job at St. Andrew's Academy. Sam attended school there as did Allie. She is not happy when she realizes that they'll be working together. Tension escalates when the body of Jackson Williams, is found on school property. He taught English at the school. He disappeared fifteen years ago but no one suspected he was murdered. Allie and Sam form an uneasy partnership. They are determined to find who killed their favorite teacher, but someone doesn't want them to succeed. Allie becomes their target. Will Sam be able to protect her? This story is a nice combination of mystery and romance. The book is well plotted and the characters are skillfully crafted. Allie is a gentle, caring person who won't stop until she finds the truth. Sam is strong willed, stubborn and very attracted to his former classmate. Their romance is filled with misunderstanding and memories of the past. The secondary characters add additional depth and humor to the story. The ending was unexpected. I didn't know who committed the murder. This is the debut novel by Ashlee Mallory. I enjoyed it very much and am looking forward to reading more.

When Allie sees her old high school crush again, she definitely wasn’t prepared for it.

A)She was with family at the airport waiting for the arrival of her oldest nephew

B)She wasn’t expecting to see him there anyway

C)The realization he didn’t know who she was, and that he was rude even tho, he helped saved her little nephew from crashing head first onto the airport floor

D) And then getting a shock when he turns up the next day at her school and he even has the manners to apologize for his behavior from the night before.

In his defense, he did have a crappy flight, was real tired from all the delays and even though he couldn’t (or didn’t) remember her, he kept getting the vague impression that he knew her from someplace, but he just didn’t know where.
They were a good couple once they managed to reconnect and then there was the school mystery. Seems workers found the body of a teacher on School property. The teacher had gone missing 15 years prior and no one knew what had actually happened to them until their remain showed up.

It was really good and the mystery was very good. You actually liked everybody you needed to like and the villains get what they deserved. It was really, really good and if you ever get a chance to pick it up, you won’t be disappointed.

I really love a good mystery where you’re left guessing until the end, a story that can make me laugh and relate to the characters (overbearing family anyone?), and, of course, a good romance. YOU AGAIN totally fit the bill and I really enjoyed it.

The romance was a slow build but I like that, as I’m not one for having characters totally in love right away, but rather first getting to know each other. There was also fun banter and embarrassing antics involving Allie's family, including a half-sis trying to toe the line with her church and a hilarious non-conforming liquor drinking grandma. As for the mystery, I didn’t figure it out until the end, and I may have had to keep the light on a little longer after I finished it, LOL.

This was a fun read and I would recommend this to anyone who loves a good mystery tied up with their romance in an unusual setting.

I received this story in exchange for an honest review.

For me this was a good quick read. It kept me guessing as to who did it through most of the book. I had narrowed it down to two people, and did figure it out before the killer was revealed. I think the author did a great job keeping you guessing and trying to distract from the actual person.

As for Allie and Sam, I thought they were cute together. There was something about the other that drew them together. Even though Allie had a crush on Sam in high school, she realized they were different now. I enjoyed their interactions and working on the case together. I would love to see more on them and also see how the other characters' stories would develop, like her sister Lainey, her friend Claire, and especially her grandma Molly who is a riot.

You again is an interesting, fast-paced mystery and fabulous, high school-crush romance.

The suspense part of the story is great. It flows well and I didn’t feel like there were too many red herring moments. Everything tied together nicely, with logical flow and a reasonable resolution. Every step of the way, each clue that was unearthed, worked together nicely and nothing felt forced or like it didn’t make sense.

And I liked Sam and Allie together. They work together well to figure out what happened and along the way get to know each other better, falling in love. Of course, it helps that Sam is a true crime writer but that causes a little trouble too.

With entertaining intrigue and a lovely little romance, You Again is perfect for those who like their mysteries with a love story twist.

Allies and Sam's story offers up many genres of reading. Murderer.,mystery.,and romance. As teenagers Allies crushed on Sam without him every knowing it. Years later Allies now teachers at their old high school and Sam write books. He comes home due to his mothers illness and is asked to help fill in at the school while hes home.. feelings never forgotten...a murdered body discovered...and Allie's crazy family makes for one hell of a ride. The cast of characters interesting ..the romance intriguing...and the mystery keeps you on your toes. A different kind of read for me and I truly enjoyed it.

Allie is a teacher at the same high school she graduated from. All of a sudden Sam comes back. She had the biggest crush on Sam all through high school, but he never seemed to pay her any attention. Now he is a part of the faculty!

Sam left town and never looked back. He became a shot murder mystery writer. All of a sudden they locate the remains of his missing English teacher that was his soccer coach and mentor. The one who encouraged his writing.

The author does a great job juggling the romance and mystery of the book. There is just more than the recovery of the dead body. Great mystery book with romance involved.

Allie had a crush on Sam in high school...now 14 years later, he's back in town and doesn't even recognize her at first. What starts as a simple story about Allie finally meeting up with her old high school crush now that's she's grown up and Not Chubby, turns into a murder mystery and a story of two people who have been hurt by other people in the past and need to learn to trust again.
Both Allie and Sam are great characters...very believable and likeable...and Allie just makes you want to root for her and Sams Hot...great couple...very good story.

This was my first read by Author Ashlee Mallory and the first in her You Again series. The underlying story lines were little to far fetched for me. But the way the story was written was nice. I enjoyed the build up of the mystery that had to be solved. The other issue I had was the cover of the book really did not go with the story of the book.

We meet Allie McBride, school teacher, but with a very religious family, yet she does not seem to practice their faith. She was always the shy girl in high school with a crush on the hot guy. But when Sam Fratto returns to town not only does he turn Allie's world upside down personal but also professionally. He is going to be teaching in the classroom next to hers.

As events seem to turn them toward each other for support, then to try to solve a murder, they learn things about each other that only makes the past become more present. Will Allie and Sam be able to solve the mystery or will the murderer get away with it?

The first series I read from Ashlee Mallory was The Sorensen Family set, though I discovered these books first on the mobile app Chapters, and later invested in and read all of her books as well.

I really enjoyed getting to know the characters in these books, and shared their emotional hills and valleys as each story and series progresses. I appreciated the fact that this author is excellent at writing romances based out the oddest circumstances imaginable, and also managed to catch my breath with each chapter of her suspense novel as well.

If you are interested in romance, humor, or even suspense, you should definitely check out Ashlee's books. I'd recommend her books for anyone that enjoys a good story with memorable characters you will find yourself falling in love with.

I loved this book. It was a well-written romantic suspense. Would like to see more books in this series.

Allie McBride had a crush on Sam Fratto back in high school. But he never gave her the time of his day. For him, she was just a cute kid trying to please everyone. Allie has come far from the fat, cute kid she was in high school. Now she is confident, hot, sassy and extremely sexy. She is also teaching at her alma mater, St. Academy and involved in her school and her job.

Sam Fratto is a true-crime writer. He left his home as soon as he could, when he found out his perfect family was anything but. Now his mother's illness brings him back to town. He accepts a teaching position at his old school. Seeing the geeky, sweet-mannered Allie blossomed into into a saucy woman is a jolt to his system.

With Allie trying to make something of her crush and Sam trying to get the hot teacher next door, neither of them expects a dead body cropping up. Especially the dead body of one of their favourite teachers, Mr. Williams. With the discovery of the body, Allie's life is threatened, crimes escalate, the dirty past comes to the forefront.

With every facet of the past that is revealed, Allie realizes that Mr. Williams is not the man she thought him to be. Not just him, but her once best-friend turned arch-enemy is also hiding her own secrets, and so is Sam and his family. Among the lies and deceit, Allie has to decide who to trust.

You Again is high on the mystery/suspense angle. Romance not so much. Sam and Allie acknowledge that they are attracted, but any sort of relationship comes only at the end of the book, and it's too little. The best part about the book was that it was not too predictable. I only suspected the murderer a bit before Allie and Sam. Though in retrospect I should have seen it coming. That said I did not like how Sam and Allie left Meredith alone without confronting her about the lies she said in the past.

Overall I liked the book and enjoyed it too, but I wish certain issues like the Meredith one were properly resolved.

Firstly, thank you to NetGalley and Entangled publishing for approving my request for this book. The reason I requested this book was because I was drawn in by the cover as it looks similar to a lot of books that I read. Unfortunately though for me, it was a case of judging the book by its cover gone wrong.

The story follows characters Allie and Sam, old school acquaintances who are reunited when Sam joins the teaching staff at the school where Allie teaches, and where they both used to go when they were younger. A dead body and the need to solve the mystery surrounding it bring the pair closer.

I will admit that I totally judged this by its cover without even reading the blurb first. However, even if I had read the blurb I still would have bought this book because actually it makes the story sound quite intriguing. I once read a romance suspense book before and the blurb indicated that this book might be quite similar.

I didn’t really feel a connection with either of the characters, even though the narrative is written from both of them. Allie’s character is described as saucy in the blurb but even if that were Sam’s view she didn’t really live up to that description. Assuming that Sam is the man depicted on the cover, he is never really described that way in the book and I actually kind of wanted to punch him a little because he seemed assuming and arrogant throughout.

I thought that there would be much more of a spark between the characters but I found it quite lacking. The title of the book also suggested to me that there might be some sparks flying between the characters. It hinted at the reunion between the characters but also that there might be a clash, some heat and some passion between them but actually it takes a while before their relationship heats up to lukewarm and even then it’s not anywhere near the level of steam/passion that is alluded to.

That said, and a lot of it is probably due to my own disappointment, the story is written, and structured quite well. The murder story line carries the story along and is paced well throughout the book. I am disappointed that I did not enjoy this as much as I thought I would.

Unfortunately, I didn't much like this book. The mystery was well done, but I wasn't a fan of the characters and I didn't get drawn into the story. So, it wasn't a book for me.

I didn't like either of the main characters. Ashlee was frequently self-righteous, judgmental, and I don't understand why she fancied herself a detective. Where was the police in all of this? It's like they didn't exist at all, until they arrested the killer after Ashlee already figured it out (or, really, stumbled on the answer). She wasn't terrible, I did like that she was tough and refused to be cowed by anyone, but it wasn't enough for me to like her.

Sam was okay. I didn't really feel like I got to know his character. There were constant references to the town disliking him for what he wrote in his books, but that was never expanded on and I felt like there were so many things about him that could have been deepened. He was fine, but not my favorite hero.

The romance felt shallow, because I never got into either of the characters. If felt like, most of the time, they were just wary of each other.

The plot was okay. I wasn't hooked, but I was kept interested the entire way though, just because of the mystery. That was really the saving grace of the book and it's what prompted me to give it 2 roses, when I might have otherwise given it 1. The mystery was well done and I definitely never suspected who it turned out to be and how insane this person was. I was okay with the story and the ending was fine.

You Again was an okay read. Though I didn't like it much, I did enjoy the mystery it involved. Overall, I wouldn't recommend it, but if you want a mystery, then you might want to look this one up.

You Again is a romance/mystery set in Salt Lake City, Utah. Allie is a single mom who teaches English at a local Catholic high school. The discovery of a body of a teacher who disappeared over 15 years ago found on school property has the close knit community reeling. Jackson Williams was a beloved teacher of Allie's when she attended the same school she teaches at now. She decides to put together a video memorial for the teacher she idolized. But foul play soon becomes apparent and Allie decides she's going to figure out what happens. However an old crush of hers turns up back in town right around the same time and they quickly turn into a Lois and Clark duo.

There are quite of few things I enjoyed about this book. The mystery part of the story line was pretty strong. I really love being able to follow the clues as a book progresses and try my own guess at who our killer is. I wasn't sure in this one, there seemed to be several people who fit the bill. It seems although Allie loved Mr. Williams there were some who disagreed with that assessment. The romance part of the book wasn't as strong. However I really did enjoy the progression between Allie and Sam. At times it seemed Allie was being pretty childish in how she was handling certain situations with Sam. And Sam wasn't able to trust Allie even though he really had no reason not to. But overall it wasn't bad.

I think if you're looking for some interesting, not scary or gory, light romance this is a good choice for you. I gave it 3.5 stars because Allie and Sam's connection didn't seem that deep to me and the mystery was pretty straight forward. The book was pretty solid though.

I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and am providing an honest review.

I thoroughly enjoyed 'You Again'! It was a really quick read for me, which was nice because I only had a little time before I was heading back out of town.

Allie reminded me of myself in that she was timid and eager-to-please, but spoke up when the issue really mattered to her. She was stronger than you'd expect to see coming from the type of family that she came from, but you could still see those moments when the things they said to her took root in her thinking.

Honestly, Sam's character didn't stand out to me as anything amazing, but I did like him. There was also the issue of what the book that made everyone hate him was about. We, as readers, were never privy to that information.

I appreciated that the road to Allie and Sam's relationship was not paved in gold because sometimes, in reality, things take a little more work.

I enjoyed the mystery and discovering things at the same time as the characters. I didn't figure things out immediately, but rather slightly before the Allie and Sam did, which was nice. There's nothing worse than knowing whodunit for the whole book and having to wait for the characters to catch up.

The cover is a bit misleading, since this book was very light on the intimate scenes. That didn't bother me, though, because sex isn't a necessity for me in the books I read. I just wanted to warn those that might be expecting something steamier that this is a fade-to-black type of read.

I would definitely recommend 'You Again' and am looking forward to what Ashlee Mallory has in store for future works!

Allie always had a crush on Sam growing up but he never noticed her. Now she has grown into a sexy, smart woman who is a single mom and teacher at their old high school. She never forgot Sam. Sam is a crime writer who has come back home to help his sick mother. He is helping out at the school and now sees the Allie. He remembers her as a sweet girl in school but she is different from what she used to be. A body turns up at school and the two work together to figure out who killed their old teacher years ago. However the killer doesn't want to be found and will do anything to stop the two.

This is a very good mystery book as you try to figure out along side Allie and Sam who did it and why. They start off with a few problem when they meet again but quickly move on. I have to say I did not connect with either one a whole lot. I just couldn't click with them. I did enjoy the mystery and unraveling all the secrets from the past. A lot went on and you kept guessing till the end. There is a romance between Allie and Sam. I am sure if you like a mystery with danger and some romance you will enjoy this book.

Review: I was given a complimentary copy of You Again by Reading Bliss for an honest review.
This book was a quaint mystery. Allie sees her crush from high school. Her life ends up crazy. Sam has returned to Salt Lake City to take care of his mom who is ill. He takes a temporary job at an academy. Sam and Allie attended there together. Tension rises when the body of Jackson Williams is found on the campus. He was the English teacher. He had disappeared 15 years ago but no one thought he was murdered. Allie and Sam form a partnership. They want to find out who killed their favorite teacher. Someone doesn’t want them to succeed and makes Allie a target. This story has the perfect combination of romance and mystery. I love books that can keep me guessing what is going to happen next. I enjoyed the plot and the romance is filled with memories from the past and things that were misunderstood. Will things turn out all right? The ending wasn’t what I expected. I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.
